Our explorer boy trekking out on a Barkhaus adventure getting the exercise he needs! Mulder is to the far left

We were so fortunate to find Barkhaus back in 2017, when we moved back to Miami in 2015 we struggled going from doggie day care to doggie day care unable to find a good fit for our pup Mulder. At the time he was a high energy, 2 year old, blue heeler mix, with fear anxiety that would manifest through fear aggression towards other dogs. We couldn't even take him to dog parks anymore because he would attack other dogs. After one day of being with Natalie and Andres our pup was already a different dog. He quickly began walking better on his leash with us, obeying commands better, and he integrated flawlessly into their pack. Seeing pictures and Instagram posts of him playing with other dogs of all sizes would bring tears to my eyes. I could see he was finally feeling safe and happy. Barkhaus became his second home. We are eternally grateful to Andres and Natalie for caring and loving Mulder as their own and helping him be the dog we all knew he could be! They are true professionals and genuinely care about dogs, they did not turn away our pup when he arrived at their door with his "rap sheet" of bad experiences from other day cares. Mulder improved so much under their guidance and I would recommend them 1,000% to anyone looking for a safe, loving place, that truly gives your dog the attention, and mental and physical work out they deserve.

We have been leaving our two dogs, Mookie and Abu, in the care of Barkhaus for years, sometimes for weeks at a time. We could not have been happier with our experience. This is somewhere your dog will be as happy as he is at home while constructively socializing with all types of other dogs, in a closely monitored by two true professionals who LOVE their job. These dogs are in great hands and the service is well worth every penny!

A coworker recommended this place and I'm so grateful for that. They really know how to keep dogs entertained and active. I'm not sure what kind of magic they use to keep dogs still while they take pictures of them, but I LOVE the pictures they have taken of my little chihuahua. The fist time I brought Lupita to this place Natalie recommended me to change her food for a better quality one because I was given her the equivalent of McDonald's every day. She even emailed me links to different brands of food she recommends. If that's not caring for your dog then what is? They are also very responsive when you contact them and the payment process is very convenient and straight forward. I don't believe in dogs staying at luxurious hotels, that's just not in their nature. What they need is love, run around, play, eat when they have to, and rest. This place gives them that and more. Another coworker is bringing their dog here as well. They also love the place.

Barkhaus is hands down the BEST doggie daycare, boarding, training, and playtime you can get for your pup in Miami (and everywhere else!). My French bulldog Louie goes to daycare once a week and has also had multiple overnight sleepovers (boarding) at Barkhaus. He LOVES Andres and Natalie and basically jumps out of the car when he sees that we're approaching the Haus! They are the nicest, most caring, and attentive people and I trust them more than my family with my fur baby. I hope Andres and Natalie continue to bless us with their dog training and dog photography/instagram skills on Miami for many many years to come!

    Ask the Community - Barkhaus

Aloha! I am wondering what is the best method (phone, email, etc.) and time (weekends, weekdays, mornings, afternoons, etc.) to get in touch with Barkhaus? I am super interested in filling out an application for my pup. Mahalo! 😊

Hi Kimi! We've been extremely busy since the start of covid and the large number of adoptions and new dog additions to everyone's households. Since Barkhaus is just two people, we're doing our very best to address every new lead in a timely manner.…

Running away, jumping, even pooping right in front of us... it got to the point where it just wasn't fun anymore. That's when we called Island Dog Obedience. Kristi was incredible from the start. She came to our home to meet Gigi, and soon after, Gigi was off to Kaneohe for training. It was hard being without her, and we wondered if anything would really change. Then came the daily photos--Gigi playing with other dogs, calmly sitting on her cot, and responding beautifully to Kristi's commands. It was amazing to see. When Gigi came home, we were hopeful but unsure. She greeted us with joyful zoomies, then quickly settled down and listened. We couldn't believe it--she was a completely different dog! Gigi is now the best little pug, and it's all thanks to Kristi. She was amazing, and at our house for over 2 hours making sure we understand how the e collar worked. It was a great day for all of us. with so much love and aloha, Jeri & Jerry Lynch

Kristi is truly one of a kind My boyfriend and I came to her desperate for help with our new pup, Kona, who struggled with severe anxiety. He was scared of pretty much everything -- people, new environments, being separated from us -- and we were also dealing with barking, basic obedience, and some unwanted behaviors. After just 4 sessions, the transformation has been unbelievable. Today was our final session, and I honestly wish I had a video of how Kona used to be so people could truly understand how far he's come. At the beginning, he wouldn't even go up to Kristi and was extremely hesitant and fearful whenever she took the leash. Now? He confidently walks up to her on his own terms -- calm, trusting, and self-assured. That alone speaks volumes. Kristi didn't just train Kona -- she guided us on how to train him the right way. She's patient, knowledgeable, supportive, and truly cares about both the dog and the owners. She sets you up for success, but it's important to note that the progress comes from continuing the work at home too -- and her guidance made that possible for us. We are beyond grateful for Kristi and everything she's done for our pup. If you're dealing with anxiety, fear, or behavioral issues and want real results, Island Dog Obedience is 100% worth it. I cannot recommend her enough!

We eventually decided on the basic 4-lesson training sessions, and we just completed our last one yesterday with Loren. Shout out to Loren for working so well with our Tank and Pepper!! First and foremost, you MUST be willing to practice reinforcing all the lessons you learn on your own time in between training sessions. It's like learning something once and then not doing your homework...would that work? Of course not. SOooooo.... my husband and I (mostly my husband), really put a lot of effort into doing our "homework" in between sessions with Loren. I mean, I wouldn't want to be the embarrassed parents who didn't help their children succeed, lol. Anywho, each training session was clear and had lots of scaffolding and repetition, so that our pups could succeed. There was plenty of explanation behind all the commands and corrections, so we knew how to handle our specific dogs. I think the personalization and customization was wonderful, and it makes me really happy to see that the trainer knew his stuff! Further, it was clear that he genuinely cared about each dog and his/her personality traits that makes each dog unique. During the 4-lesson basic package, Tank and Pepper learned sit (with duration and distance), place (with duration and distance), heel (still needs LOTS of practice), and down (with distance and duration). Now from here on out, it's about reinforcement, reinforcement, reinforcement. I don't want to lose any of this precious learning, so we better stay on top of things and continue the great work that has begin. We're so happy with k9 Off Leash that we are now also seriously considering the 2-week board and train with both Tank and Pepper. I know these guys are way booked out, so if you're even considering, then I suggest you call them right away!! Thank you, Loren, ad k9 Off Leash for your help with Tank and Pepper!!

They were referred to us by our vet at VCA Kaneohe to treat our dog's degenerative disease that impacted her spinal cord, affecting her back legs and ability to walk. She had been going for laser therapy treatment at VCA for pain which was initially working, then her vet recommended Dr. Gregg Levine and KAI Animal Institute as an integrative and complementary mode of treatment for pain management of her spinal cord disease. We're so glad her vet recommended KAI Animal Institute. In our first communication with Dr. Levine, he went over our dog's history over the phone, and went over various modes of treatment he could offer to relieve our dog's pain. We then setup a treatment session at his healing studio for him to assess our dog's health and recommend the most appropriate course of treatment. Stepping into KAI Animal Institute's studio, we were greeted with a calming and healing oasis that was thoughtfully designed for animals where Dr. Levine used various treatments like low level light laser therapy, rehab therapy, targeted pulse electromagnetic field therapy, and acupuncture for our dog's pain. In addition, his wife, Julie, an animal behaviorist, performed harmonic therapy for our dog during the treatment which used sound healing powers to further help calm and treat our dog in addition to the acupuncture, etc. Soothing music was played in the background during the treatment session which helped even my husband and I to relax. During and after each session, we could see a change in our dog's behavior and demeanor. She would smile and be so happy, excited to go to KAI Animal Institute's healing oasis and see Dr. Levine and Julie because she knew they would help her feel better. She was able to stand for brief periods with assistance and continually kept trying to use her back legs on her own. Mahalo Nui Loa Dr. Levine and Julie for providing such kind, compassionate, and caring treatments to our dog to help her with pain management. We are so thankful, grateful and blessed to have met Dr. Levine and Julie and can't recommend them enough for complementary care for animals dealing with pain or recovering from an injury or surgery.

His holistic approach to addressing whatever issue the dog is presenting that day and using the full range of therapies to treat them instead of having to pick from an ala carte menu like other places has been amazing. From acupuncture, to cold laser therapy, and even fun physical games that get the dog to strengthen the right muscles. Even a stroll along the beach was integrated to help heal the mind and body. Being a part of the therapy myself as opposed to just waiting outside a clinic has strengthened the bond and trust between my dog and myself. She has learned new tricks, even at the age of 13, that have enriched her life and our relationship. We started with him to just address a back leg injury Keira had suffered, but have since expanded to help Keira heal and hold off the bits of aging her body has begun to show. I am beyond pleased with the results and use the therapy and training techniques Dr. Levine taught us daily to continue my dog's healing and progress. As you can see in the last photo, Keira is a very happy customer at the end of every session! I can't recommend Kai Animal Institute enough!

The manager then decided to "refer out" my dog due to them not having an emergency vet on site, according to their policy that they have had since Petco grooming became a thing. Although I understand the safety concern, my dog's health has not changed in the past three years We have been making him monthly appointments. now all of a sudden, every manager and service worker in that Petco is concerned? So you're telling me for the past three years all your groomers have been out of policy? If this was missed for three years in a row , What else have your groomers done that has been outside of policy? I'm not only hurt because my dog is older & picky with his service people and never gave the groomers any trouble, but I'm also worried for the other animals out there that visit this location because who knows what else these people are sweeping under the rug or cherry picking what becomes in and out of policy. at my dogs elderly age, I just want him to be comfortable and serviced correctly. Petco was asking for a letter from the vet to say that he has no underlying conditions that would affect the service of trimming, his nails. A letter from a veterinarian ? To tell a groomer that an old dog's legs are weak, and he can't jump up on a table ? A letter from a veterinarian ????????????????????? comfortability at an elderly age. that's all I want. This Petco location made it seem like that was way too much to ask for, even though I have evidence of three years worth of grooming confirmation text messages. I hate that you blamed my dog for being old and aged. I hate that in his old age you're making him meet new groomers and learn a new routine. And I hate that the evidence of his age no longer made him a candidate to be comfortable in your establishment anymore. me and my family will never step foot in another Petco on this island or off this island again.
