We were looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast after church. We hadn't been in many, many years so we decided to stop by. We should have kept driving. It was filthy inside. The food was mediocre at best and service was extremely slow. It took probably 35-40 minutes to get our food after ordering. The server did tell us that they were short staffed in the kitchen. This used to be my favorite place to go for breakfast food but now it seems very plain to me without a lot of options for me to try anything new. Unfortunately, more interesting breakfast places are further away than I'm willing to go. Also my family really likes it here so we will end up here again and again. I usually get the Granny's Country Omelette with pepper jack cheese, breakfast potatoes, and whole grain or blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes. It's more food than I could possibly eat and the leftovers still taste good the next day. I sometimes try their dinner food but have found it to be mostly so-so compared to their breakfast options. So I think I will stick with breakfast food when I come here (which is crazy to those who know my because I usually prefer dinner food over breakfast food). First time for everything or so the saying goes... We ate at this Perkins on a regular occasion for several months; however, today will be our last visit. They were sort of busy so I will preface with that. We waited for about an hour for our brunch, ordered around 1 pm. The server we had was training another server, but she was just observing her taking our order and she checked on us often. After about an hour and without our checking on the status, the girl in training came to the table who placed an order after ours and asked what their order was. This perked my curiosity as to where our order was at in the line...a few minutes later she came and asked us what our order was. She went to check on it, and after a few minutes the initial server who took our order came and informed us she had LOST our order. I have never in my life had anyone lose my order. I just got up from the table and said it will be a very long while til we're back. She did apologize, but who in their right mind LOSES an order??? I can't rate the food because I didn't eat. Stood at the reservation stand waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence for over 5 minutes. There was NO ONE ELSE waiting. Everyone walking around talking to each other and no concerns for me. Finally a girl wanders over ...not good morning, not sorry for the wait..just how many! Told her 1, she stood and looked around ( mind you they weren't full and plenty of waiters). And she said I would have to wait. Visited the Perkins in Collierville and appreciated the kind and friendly staff. The food was also good. The service could have been a little quicker given that it was not too packed. Nevertheless, we were pleasantly surprised at checkout. After paying, we asked the staff we can get a lemon blueberry muffin. She proceeded to bag a muffin at no charge and mentioned it was on the house. It is good to see that good people still exist and care about customers. All three flavors were enjoyed daily for lunch and dinner for three whole grueling (but oh so fun!) days of competition. My wife's family really liked this place for a while so we ended up here often and sometimes we still have meals here together as a family. I do like their breakfast potatoes. But nothing really appeals to me about this place because I'm not a breakfast food person. I usually get the Hearty Man's Combo. I admit that the food is good for what it is. I ask for half caffeinated and half decaf. She did what I wish everyone would she bout out both and let us prepare our own! For that I wanted to hug her! Have been wanting to try this place for a while since we get Starbucks next door everyday. If you like Denny's, you'll love Perkins. They're of the same genre. I'm not a huge fan of Denny's. But the food we had at Perkins was fine for what it is. Pancakes were fluffy. Taters crunchy. Cookies freshly baked. Service was good. My only gripe is that all 4 sets of silverware had food crusted on them in at least one spot All 4 sets. In these COVID filled days that's really not cool. I hope they fix their dishwasher or improve quality inspection. The WiFi wasn't working in Perkins but the Starbucks signal reached over there amazingly. read more
