I want to give Peppermill Grill more stars. I really do, my girl and have been coming here for months but the way the restrooms are handled is pretty poor. To start off with the good, the food here is cheaply priced and what you get in return is well worth it. Their pancakes are huge and their side chips are addicting. This is the only place in Grand Rapids that my girlfriend has found an eggs benedict she truly enjoys every time. The seats and booths are pretty dated but it compliments all of the antique signs they have around the restaurant. I also really enjoy that the restaurant supports Pit Bulls and abused dogs in general, under the register you'll see the dogs they've sponsored in the past. As for the bathroom problem, every time my girlfriend uses the restroom here the SAME bar of soap is in the women's restroom, whereas the mens restroom has a pump dispenser. She's decided to stop using the restroom here. Peppermill Grill is a pretty popular restaurant, with families, older folks and college students. That's a lot of people putting their hands on that one bar of soap that the women are expected to use. It'd be more sanitary if both restrooms had a pump or a wall soap dispenser, not just one. My other issue, there's a sign above the sink of both restroom that tells customers to tell the staff to tell the staff is the restroom needs attention. If the restrooms are right next to the kitchen, which they are, the customers shouldn't be in charge of monitoring the restrooms for them. read more

Always crowded and sometimes a long wait but overall the food is amazing ALWAYS. Gives off that homemade old fashion vibe which I love. Beware when ordering the pancakes, they're as big as hubcaps! We always tease company when they don't listen and try ordering more than one. The waitresses give generous portions and can get you a to go box. All the waitresses are friendly and caring. Only complaint really is the coffee which isn't the best. Sometimes as stated above it's a long wait to get in or pay for your meal. Worth a trip if your a breakfast foodie read more

If you go to The Peppermill Cafe, they won't seat you until you're entire party is present. What difference does it make if only 2 persons of your party of 4 has arrived? If you're a party of 2 you're going to probably be seated at a table that seats 4. What difference does it make if there are 2 persons or 4? What are they going to do take 2 chairs or seats away? This is such a great place for a big breakfast or a casual lunch. Bottom line, the food is GOOD. The servers are kind and FAST. The prices are low. There are funny signs on the walls, the exterior ain't much to look at, but there is a reason they have plaques for winning "Best Restaurant" in their category. This is one of those "group of older folks having coffee" and "Family with kids having piles of pancakes" and "college kids saving a buck eating a bang-on BLT" AND "married couple who slept late eating breakfast for lunch" type of a place. :) But, don't plan on dinner, they're only open 6am-2pm, 7 days a week. Anecdotal compliment: This past weekend, we sat down planning to order, but my husband wasn't feeling well. We had ordered drinks already, but we changed our order to a "to go". Our server and the lady checking us out both had worried looks on their faces and asked "were we too slow?!" We told them the situation and the waitress bought our drinks and told my husband to feel better. Simple, but sweet gesture. I feel like if we went more often, they would totally remember our names. DH ordered eggs Benedict based on the favorable reviews and he practically licked the plate clean. Wanted to like my breakfast more than i actually did. I tried the Filthy Skilly. Unfortunately my over-medium eggs on top were definitely over-easy, and i couldn't tell if there was any cheese on top as described, so I'm gonna say if so, it wasn't enough. The sausage gravy was good. But the dish was *very* greasy. I tilted the plate and scooped out 2 tsp of grease. I give 4 stars because the server was pleasant and attentive, she even asked if DH wanted onions in his hashbrowns, I never had to ask for more coffee, and at least one of the two meals was delish. read more

DREADFUL!!!!..... I 100% understand about everything being different since COVID.... And I understand waiting for a table.... BUT.... When we where finally seated...... the next 2 tables that were seated 5-10 minutes after us..... had their food and was leaving to pay their bill... I finally got our waitress's attention to ask about our food.... 45 minutes waiting for food that wasn't very good at all.... The sausage gravy was pastey And flavorless!!!!..... then after all of that..... standing near the cash register for another 10 minutes to pay with about 25 people all crammed together...... I almost feel stupid doing a review of this place because if you like breakfast in Rockford or Walker / Standale you have been here...and LOVE IT! But in case there is somebody dying for a great hearty, not fancy breakfast that hasn't been here...I will do a review. GREAT diner style breakfast place. Only thing people can find to complain about that they have to wait...IF they show up prime time or IF they show up with 14 people or worst case, show up at Prime TIme with 14 people LOL. Bottom line: Food...Well executed diner food. Nothing fancy, just consistently really good. Portions...Large to Huge. Especially the Omelets. Price...Reasonable almost to the point of being cheap. If you order all kinds of ala cart stuff it can add up but most of their breakfast dishes are under $8 and they always have some specials on the board that are usually a deal. Atmosphere....none. A diner without the chrome. Basically a large room. But who cares. I am there for breakfast not to marvel at the décor. Omelets....HUGE....like two people can share one and be full huge or one person has breakfast for tomorrow huge. They only do breakfast & lunch. They WILL be busy so don't show up after church on Sunday with 14 people and act all indignant because they can't whisk you right to a giant table they have been secretly saving just in case you showed up..... There will be people waiting to get seated for parties of two and four so get over it. That is the sign of a good restaurant. If you walk into a breakfast place after church and the place is empty....hint hint...it isn't very good. The ONLY thing people complain about is having to wait???? I ate here on a Monday morning with my dad, and it wasn't terribly busy. The waitress was attentive and friendly, and the food came pretty quickly. I ordered an egg beater vegetarian scramble with English muffin toast and potatoes. My dad ordered some sort of omelet with a bunch of meat and rye toast. That rye toast was delicious! It was really thick and tasty. I stole a couple of pieces, I confess. The food was good and it was plentiful enough that I saved half for the next day's breakfast. This place used to be the definition of a "greasy spoon", but then it came under new ownership, and they completely changed the place for the better. My wife and I love to eat breakfast here, and enjoy their plentiful options and friendly service. The decor of the establishment is quite pleasing to the eye as well. We came at 7:30 on a Saturday morning and the place was already busy. About 1/2 full, and almost full when we left an hour later! Looks like they can handle larger parties without much todo. I would call fist if you are more than 6-8 people. This is one of the few restaurants in the greater Grand Rapids area that serves a chili cheese omelette. A filling, but not large, omelette with homemade chili inside, topped with shredded cheddar cheese. I asked for jalapeño on the side to kick it up a notch. Disappointed that the cheese wasn't hot and melted, it was more like an added garnish. Came with side of salsa and sour cream. I skipped the toast. My husband ordered the special and he had no problem eating the whole thing :) Food came quick, and we didn't need a flare gun for a coffee refill. Prices were some of the most appealing for breakfast that I have seen anywhere around here. With coffee and a tip you can walk out for under $10. Worth a try! read more

Walking in to the Peppermill, you are greeted by a dated, "grandma's house" type of decor, which is somehow comforting, despite the rips in some of the booth cushions nearby. The breakfast menu is appealing to all. I was drawn to the omelettes and the "skillys". I picked a skillet and hazelnut coffee. The skillet came out and was A very generous size. It was so good I could have eaten it all in one sitting!! My self control kicked in, so I got a box to-go. The breakfast food here is unbelievable. So yummy. Tastes like your grandma's homemade. I want to say Thank You to The Peppermill Grill for the great food, service, and genuine care they have given me and my mother while she was still alive, she passed a year ago from Alzheimer's. I've been missing her lots lately and finding comfort here at the Peppermill. I assure you the staff here always go above and beyond for everyone! The food is amazing. Best omelettes in town in my opinion. The fluffy pancakes are huge! The Belgian waffles And French toast are always hits. Daily soups and specials are delicious! After two or three visits you become a regular! They make a point of knowing all the regulars names. On Sunday, I watched "Shorty" the hostess, go outside and help one of the regular senior couples in from their car. The husband uses a walker and the wife looks like she's going to need one soon. I see them help this same couple and several others every time they come in! People love it here, young and old! Then today, a jerk with a bad attitude walked in. Behaved like a jackass the whole time he was here, his waitress was Lu, the owner, she is sweet, fast, attentive and very accommodating! He made a big fuss of complaining about everything from the food to the service after he ate to Michelle, my waitress, loudly at my table. I don't know maybe he thought he'd get his meal free by trying to be obnoxious and intimidating. He thought she was the "manager". When she told him Lu was the owner he got all huffy, said his food was burned, service was terrible, and even said sweet little Olive, the hostess was rude to him! Olive doesn't know the meaning of rude! He cleaned his plate and drank several cups of coffee while behaving rudely. People like that really irk me! Hope he never returns! However, my only suggestion would be, don't make a customer stand in front of restaurant full of staring patrons ( for over 5 minutes) to pay their bill, either leave that to the server to handle at the table or designate a hostess. read more

When we saw the venue we were expecting smaller burgers and portion sizes for the prices we had seen, but then got a burger that covered a third of my plate, along with the rest of it being covered in fries.
