Everything went well the night we dined here. We sat outside it was perfect temperature for it. The service was phenomenal. They had a violinist playing Christmas music which was a nice touch. We started with the octopus that was a special with cannellini beans. If it's on the menu I highly recommend it! My husband got the carpaccio it was excellent like carpaccio should be. The bread is addicting. My husband's crab ravioli was to die for! The fruitti di mare was good but the ravioli was the star. My husband got the branzino he loved it and I got the veal saltimbocca. Cute little restaurant off Ocean, easy street parking. Food was fantastic, I had the mushroom papadelle and it was outstanding! The zucchini frites were exactly the crunch I was looking for. For dessert we had a canolo and ricotta cheese cake, both delicious. Always a pleasure to stop into Pepe & Sale for some great food. My wife and I split a salad and a special pasta (Pappardelle with Lemon and lobster). Delicious. My wife had the tableside branzino which was so moist from the salt encrusted cooking process. I had the Mahi special with roasted fennel and cherry tomatoes over fregola. Loved everything. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and I know good Italian food.! this is not it's overpriced and not worth the price tag! The house salad was actually decent. I will say that. The bread is definitely not worth it if you want good bread go to Nonna's.!! they give you roasted garlic and olive oil dipping sauce here it was just stale yucky bread. The sauce tasted like Ragu in a jar and there was no garlic no spice no nothing and the eggplant had the skin on it which is a huge no-no for me.!!! and all the wine is overpriced! First off My Google review was deleted by the owners .. We went here for Valentine's Day and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience from start to finish. When we were first seated, we were given a menu to order from and made our selections. Shortly after, we were told we had to order from a different menu instead. This second menu was never advertised or mentioned beforehand. While it wasn't a huge issue in itself, it required everyone at the table to completely change their choices, which was frustrating and unexpected. The problems really began with the appetizer. We ordered fried calamari, which came out in about two minutes. It was clearly undercooked, dripping with oil, and completely flavorless. There wasn't even salt or pepper on the table, and no one came by to check on us. For our entrées, my son and I ordered different veal dishes and my wife ordered the branzino. All of the sides arrived ice cold and lacked any seasoning. When our waiter finally came over and we mentioned it, he asked us to put the food back on a plate so he could warm it up. He later returned with a new plate of potatoes for my son, but the overall quality didn't improve. My veal with eggplant was extremely salty, while my wife's branzino -- advertised as "cleaned and deboned tableside" -- was bland and full of bones. Service was also lacking. My soda sat empty until the very end of the meal. To make matters worse, refills were $5 per glass, which is excessive. When the bill came, there was a 3.5% charge for using a card, which I understand. However, each meal was listed $3-$5 higher than the price shown on the menu -- well beyond the stated 3.5%. I don't mind paying high prices for a great meal, but this experience was far below mediocre. It was genuinely horrible and not at all what we expected for a special occasion. read more

Hidden gem. Authentic, delicious, well- presented dishes. Indeed, Italian spoken here. We enjoyed the: 1) insalata pepe sale-lots of flavors and crunch. Like a salad with the fixings and sans lettuce. I liked it. 2) carpaccio (tenderloin) garnsihed with arugula. Also good 3) Sicilian sausage- what a surprising hit. I'm not a huge sausage fan but this was delicious. I couldn't stop eating this. 4) tagliatelle bolognese- perfectly cooked. a nice pasta dish. 5) Australian wagyu NY strip- sliced and flavorful. overcooked but still tender. Not a large portion. 6) local grouper (special). The delicious white fish filet was tender inside and crispy on the outside. The Lemon glace had a slightly nutty flavor which made it interinteresting. The super Tuscan red wine was smooth, dry and reasonably priced. Fnished off with espresso and gluten free chocolate cake, which was like a dense flour less cake. I know it was dessert but I felt less guilty eating it because it was gluten-free Service was good but we arrived at 5 with rereservations. They did forget my husband's wagyu steak but we gave them grace since we ordered 3 entrees which may have confused them. Drink service was prompt and attemtive. Parking conveniently right in front of the rerestaurant. Ambiance was European minalmist and nice with cloth tablecloths and napkins. A ristorante- not a cafe. read more

Horrible experience!! Had a reservation for Valentine's day. I made online and called for my request. Owner said we do not look at the remarks when made online?? I did call as well and confirmed the day before that my reservation would be available. Went to the restaurant 15 minutes early and my table was not reserved and then I was offered another. I went to the car to get my family and entered again to find out my 2nd table was not available anymore. The OWNERS and staff were so OVERWHELMED. Not sure why, the restaurant is always busy. What an embarrassing experience. We drove 45 minutes with a baby to be turned away. We were fortunate that we were able to eat at another fine restaurant that night. They accommodated us without a reservation. Imagine that! What a wonderful experience my husband, I and our friends had last night at Pepe & Sale! Our first time dining there. Beautiful restaurant, great food and friendly staff. Authentic delicious Italian food. We started off with burrata, arugula and fig special as we had a bottle of their perfectly chilled and delectable Vermentino. All our main dishes were yummy - the bolognese, steak and house made tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and pancetta. The pistachio ice cream was heavenly. Luca, one of the waiters, kept us entertained with his stories of Italy and shared his and his father's love of cars with my husband and my friend's husband who are also car lovers. The owner, Maria also made us feel welcomed into her restaurant. We will definitely be going back. Good food and selection of wines, warm and welcoming owner and staff. read more

This was our second time dining at Pepe and Sale, and while the first visit was memorable, we'd like to forget this visit completely. While two of the three appetizers and two desserts were acceptable, the entrees were disappointing all around. Among the four of us, we had three lamb dishes and the lobster over pasta. The lobster came out cold, with pasta clinging together. After being sent back it came back hot and swimming in pasta sauce with no attention to presentation. The presentation of the lamb was unappealing. Imagine a bowl of oatmeal - actually, that would have been more appealing. A nice sear on the pistachio-encrusted lamb, along with something green on the plate would have made a big difference. But, there is no accounting for five pieces of lamb at different temperatures. Sadly I ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was overcooked and had the consistency of a rubber band. I complained as the server picked up the plate with 1/2 of one piece missing. Worse, I also ordered frutti de mari. Same thing, but the shrimp was also over cooked. The mussels and clams were good though. The "manager" offered a complimentary wine, but never got it. We were seated outside promptly, nice patio and a beautiful night. Waited a long time for the inital server...and pretty much anything ordered. Lotsa wine options, enjoyed. All Started with salads, I had Pepe & Sale salad fresh and good lotsa nuts; 2 had spinach salad with giant stems, house salad thumbs up. The bruschetta was fantastic!! I had the branzino w/ pesto with a delicious sauce, the fish was rolled, nicely cooked,(the rubbery skin could have been omitted as well as the small bones came with roasted veggies that were seasoned just right;another had the carbonara he liked; another had the salmon, this guy eats salmon everywhere he wasn't a fan of this one or the many bones. Dessert was the creamy-est panna cotta topped with a fruit sauce and soo delicious, tiramisu was as well. Service was chaotic and frustratingly poor. Five of us had different dishes while one couple shared their dish. I can only write a review for myself, although the others made various a comments about their food. I ordered a simple spaghetti carbonara dish. It's a dish that I make at home on occasion, and I make it very well, if I may be so bold. Traditionally, from what I understand, there is usually no cream--just yolks, cheese, and pasta water. When made correctly, the three ingredients meld to become a smooth, velvety sauce. The addition of onions and bacon (or pancetta) round it out to a delicious Italian classic. This dish was good. However, it was a bit gummy with the pasta sticking together. A few tablespoons of pasta water might have corrected this. But it tasted very good. While I will give this restaurant 4 stars because of the cozy, intimate ambience, they leave the kitchen door open. There was a table of people looking right into the kitchen. No one wants to see how the sausage is made! All in all, a nice wait staff, good food and ambience, and I think I'll be back! read more

We had Steven and Kate as our servers; not sure who was our actual server. I showed interest in a couple of wines and asked questions, so Steven brought tastes of each. Brilliant! Hubby and brother law both had fruit Demari not sure of spelling. Both said it was plain ,shrimp overcooked, brother in law said he could make that dish much better he left half of it. Hubby said he's had much better for a lot less money. My sister had sea bass she liked it I had brisket was pretty good. Very small place, service was fine. Inside and outside eating. It was family big anniversary so didn't care about the price I wanted great food this was highly recommended... but seafood did fall short. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation but they sat us immediately. We were served water and given bread but saw no server until after our reservation time. NBD, there were a couple of bday parties on the patio where they sat us so I understand waiting to take our food orders, but drinks would've been nice to have while we waited, it was my birthday night out and we might've had 2 bottles of wine instead of just the one (which was the Vermentino from Sardegna and I highly recommend if you love smooth medium bodied whites with a lot of stone fruit) Once we finally met our waiter, the service was impeccable. The food came out promptly and was absolutely fabulous. EVERYTHING we ate was a pleasure to the palate: gnocchi, salmon, triple tail, the salad! We had to have the house made tiramisu and the panna cotta for dessert because those are my 2 favs and we've been testing them around town looking for the BEST ones. While I loved the mascarpone on the tiramisu, the cookie was still dry so I don't think it was ready.
