We were really expecting the best pizza outside of the NY NJ CT area based on a recent recommendation from a fellow Jerseyite. This was not the case at all. The pizza was very doughy and the sauce had an odd flavor. Chicken Parm and Lasagna were acceptable. The salad that accompanies the dinner was good but our server offered to add Gorgonzola but neglected to mention the $5+ upcharge for the two salads that had it. The clams casino were really stuffies if you are a New Englander but they were excellent. Really good garlic knots. I enjoyed the scampi. On a whim, and because one of my lunch dates was an 11 year old who really, really wanted Pizza, we dined at this restaurant for lunch. Very dark restaurant, but the elder server was very friendly, with a wonderful sense of humor, which helped to lighten the darkness of the restaurant. It was wonderful, too, that the 11 yo was chatty so we were able to see the restaurant with the wonderment and awe of the little cutie. She provided discourse on every aspect of the restaurant! It is unfortunate, that the older server was not the one to wait our table. Although the woman who served us was efficient, she was dry, abrupt. Additionally, when I called her to the table, she says to me, "what do you want." I paused, on my way to giving a good cussing out and saw the 11 year old looking at me askance. Dang it! Didn't want to show off in front of her. Instead, I said simply, I beg your pardon. The server repeats, "what do you want." Ooh! The things I wanted to say. I'm sitting in a two-bit shopping center, paying for a 5 star meal, and you're going to be rude!! WTF. Again, grateful the 11 yo was with us. The server must have been raised by wolves! This family-owned restaurant truly gives me joy. You walk in, and you're immediately greeted by one of the owners' family members. They make it a point to remember your name and your order, and to have a brief chat with you when they have a minute to spare. Most of the customers are regulars and local families, and the restaurant is filled with warmth and laughter at all times. These small, but irreplaceable interactions are what I truly missed during the pandemic, and what I will definitely cherish from now on. Mario's not only has great service, but their meals are superb. I say meals, because with their generous portions, you'll definitely be packing some leftovers to heat up at a later time. All of their entrees come with a salad (the dressing is to die for) and a warm bread basket, both made in-house. The spaghetti with white clam sauce I order is gargantuan, overloaded with giant pieces of clam, white wine sauce, basil and cheese. Straight from the airport right to Mario's. Old world Italian Restaurant. The meals were all 5 star. Veal parm, Veal marsala, and chicken francese with all the trimmings was excellent. We had a special preparation request and our waitress made sure it was done correctly. The service was swift and gracious. The food was not good. My dish was extremely salty. The others in my party said their food looked better than it tasted. I had the Scungilli with pasta - the best I ever had in New York City, Philadelphia or in Florida. First time visit and not sure, if I would go back. Ordered garlic rolls and a cheese pizza. The garlic rolls aren't rolls . It was like a pastry roll, no garlic and or olive oil. They were so dry with some sprinkled cheese. We told the waiter and they were nice enough to bring more with some more oil but so bland, didn't help much. We had passed Mario's in Stuart several times and finally went there. We were seated immediately. We checked out the menu before we got there and decided beforehand what we were going to order. We got the combo for two which consisted of eggplant parmigiana, veal parmigiana and baked ziti. You had a choice of soup or salad. Since they didn't feature pasta fagioli that night we ordered the salad. The waiter suggested Gorgonzola cheese on top and their house made Italian dressing. The dressing was not like your vinegar Italian. This one had a sweet taste to it. It was delicious. It also came with pizza bread and garlic rolls. I happen to like a lot of garlic so the waiter brought me garlic butter to dip the rolls in. When the waiter brought out the main dish. It was piping hot. You could tell that it was all freshly made. They gave you a generous serving of eggplant parmigiana and veal Parmesan, both were very tasty. The baked ziti was so good my husband kept eating that and he had the eggplant. He was getting so filled up he only took a taste of the veal. There was so much left over it could have fed three people. We took the left overs home. The price of the combo was very reasonable. The waiter was excellent. He kept our water glasses filled. For dessert we asked the waiter what he would recommend. He said the cannoli. It was so good. There was a lot of ricotta cheese in it. I have been coming here several times a year as we migrate as snowbirds. Been coming here annual since the late 80's. The food remains fresh, huge portions and the family continues to smile as they greet you. Family run is what makes it so popular as they put their heart and soul into every entree. Stopped in for lunch. The food and service was outstanding. Family owned and operated for over 37 years. I had the Veal Parmigiana, cooked perfectly with such great flavor. Meal was served with garlic bread and Pizza slices along with a soup or a salad choice. Pizza slices tasted so good that we bought a whole pie the following day. Plenty of room for large groups. I flew in from Chicago and came back to Mario's to get a late night meal they're open till 10 and I wasn't disappointed. I lived in the area for a couple years and I frequent and most of the restaurants and Mario's is one of the better ones for truly authentic Italian food. Margarita one of the owners and is probably in her seventies and a short red hair she and her husband came from New York she still waitresses and spends time with the customer speaking Italian. So if you speak Italian she would love to speak Italian with you but she speaks English very well. She was supposed to be my waitresses but she was busy with another table and another girl Stephanie came over and helped out she was very good very efficient. I ordered the Ziti and meatballs, it comes with Soup or Salad I had the salad with crumbly blue it was very good. They give a little garlic bread in a slice of pizza with every meal and it's excellent. Table next to me where Italian Cuban and she was enjoying speaking with them they had the Sicilian pizza which is $19 on the menu plus $3 for additional topping but it's huge and it's beautiful and it's a thick crust. I lived in Italy for a number of years and went back over 30 times so I'm very familiar with the language and the culture. If you like thick Italian pizza, which is called focchacia, then you'll love their Sicilian pizza. I have included pictures of the menu make it easier to order. The prices have to be updated on the menu so I included the menu here I ordered the Ziti and meatballs which was a good amount and three meatballs. Of course the meatballs were baked and where good for being big but I'm used to the fried meatballs and as any good Italian will tell you, fried meatballs are the only way to make good meatballs! City was Al Dente and heading of sauce and cheese on it I did order little extra cheese. I finally got to speak to Margarita and we had a nice conversation she remembered me so I was asking about her rum cake which was made in-house as well as the tiramisu. Rum cake which is in the more difficult to make was truly authentic and they had their little chocolate pieces in the middle of the cream between the cake and had just enough from without being overpowering or trippy which can happen when you try to put too much rum in it. Margaritas in charge me for the rum cake and it was nice he's very generous and very kind and loves to speak Italian with her customer for the great experience and I'll be back they had Andrea Bocelli playing Caruso in the background pictures of beautiful sun places cream need well attended to if you're looking for a good Italian meal and a moderate price this is the place to go. it's not an expensive and for truly authentic Italian food it's definitely worth it . I brought half of my ziti and meatballs home and had it the next day and it was only 16.95. read more
