After over an hour of waiting, I was told the issue was the "throttle body injector SV PKG," and I was also advised to replace the air filter. I specifically asked if this repair would resolve the issue, and the employee looked me directly in the eye and said "yes." Based on that assurance, I agreed to move forward. Several hours later, I was told the vehicle was repaired, and I paid $600.17. Problem: On pickup--near 6:00 PM in a nearly empty store--the check engine light began flashing, and the jerking remained. I immediately called and reported the unresolved issues. I was asked to return the next day; I explained I drive over an hour from Maryland and couldn't, so I was scheduled for Tuesday, September 23 at 10:00 AM. Before driving down, I called to say I was running late; I was told "no problem, we'll see you when you get here." But upon arrival, Service Manager David Hoover said the original mechanic was busy and couldn't see me, offering only that I could "hang" and they'd get to me later--no priority for my scheduled appointment, no apology, and no solution offered. David advised that I could take my vehicle to another Pep Boys and they would honor the warranty, but after this terrible experience, I decided to take my vehicle to a different auto repair shop instead. Why I'm disappointed: Work did not fix the original problem (light still flashing; car still jerking). Scheduling failure: I had a confirmed appointment, yet wasn't seen or prioritized. DO NOT take your car to Pep Boys! I took my car in for a free brake estimate, just to find out what I needed -- front, rear, rotors, or just pads. They called me with a ridiculously high price, so I politely told them I'd have to hold off for now. When I picked up my car and pulled out onto the very busy road right in front of their shop, I realized I had NO BRAKES. The pedal went to the floor. Thankfully, my back right tire locked up, and I was able to stop using that and the curb. When I got out, I saw brake fluid leaking heavily from that same tire. Turns out, they drained my brake fluid and still let me leave the shop without even warning me -- like they forgot cars actually need brake fluid to stop. I went in hoping to get my car fixed, but they left it in worse and dangerous condition. It could've ended in a crash or worse. If you go here, be very careful. If you don't agree to their overpriced repairs, it feels like they'll just leave your car unsafe. This experience was completely unacceptable and life-threatening. read more

No complaints about the workmanship provided. No complaints about the parts sold. Yet, here we are with a two star review. I hope to raise it one day, but for now it is stuck at two sad stars. The car needed some professional attention and Pep Boys was able to step up. The only catch was that it was going to take a while. Good news! The work would be completed the same day. At 5pm the call came, "You car is ready for pick up!" Great news. The car could be picked up any time between 5pm and when they closed at 7pm. 5:30pm we are on our way to Pep Boys. 6:10pm we are at Pep Boys, and there is a sad, hand written note taped to the door saying that they are closed at 6pm due to low staffing. But, they have the car! At 5:30 they said come by 7pm. Work that night is an hour away and they have the car. There's some guy outside of Pep Boys without a phone, and they have his car too. I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter how great of a job you do, when you keep someone's car. How are they supposed to get to work? How are they supposed to get home? How are they supposed to pick up their kids? Nope. This has to be two stars until customer service improves. At the 54 minute mark car was finally rose to begin work. Of course this was after waiting 54 minutes in the first place for a 10:00am appointment. Before that the attendent seemed more interested in vaping and scrolling his cell phone. Keep in mind my car sat in the garage for 20 minutes while vaping and cell scrolling took more importance. Speedy service doesn't seem to be a thing at Pep Boys anymore. Three times I've been and to three different shops. And I always find myself scheduling an appointment for no apparent reason because they don't keep a schedule and your seen in order of whose there first. They seem nice and knowledgeable but service is at a snail's craw. But a side from all that the work is getting done at a great price so I can deal with the vaping etc. Update. I had the same light bulb fixed by them two years earlier for less than $200. i told them to put it back and I was calling corporate to file a complaint. while waiting I notice no repair was less than $600. once was a reliable establishment but now a RIP OFF place. Our son came home for the Holidays, his Jeep broke down while here and he had it towed to Pep Boys for repair. Requested in addition to whatever is wrong with this car, please fix the heater - it isn't working. Received a call that Jeep is fixed and ready for pickup at a cost of around $1,600. Parents paid the bill and son took off in it to head home. The vehicle was making odd, rather loud noises - our son turned around and went immediately back to Pep Boys. Obviously, not all fixed and ready for pickup. This time the "my bad" was your transmission and we will fix all that for $4,000 more dollars. Parents are suspicious and have our son request a written estimate for our review to ensure when the vehicle is picked up for the additional $4,000 it is fixed and ready for our son to return home to Pennsylvania - 7 hours away. Tom is the only one we are told who can do that, he is off for the next few days - so we had to wait for him to return to work, request the written estimate and wait for it to be written to allow Parents to review and commit to pay. Reviewed work needed, seemed all inclusive, gave the go-ahead to do the work and were expecting a good as new vehicle. Our son picked up the Jeep, came home to pack it and within less than an hour, he was heading home. Thirty some miles from home, the heater on one side isn't working, so our son calls and speaks with Tom, who says it is okay, just takes a bit to reset - you are safe to head home. Did not tell him to turn around and bring it back. One hundred and sixty, six miles into the trip, the check engine light comes on - our son pulls over and calls Tom. Tom again tells him it is safe to drive home and did not tell him to turn around and bring it back. By the time our son was very close to home, having driven the 7 hours - the Jeep died. It was determined that when Pep Boys replaced the radiator, they did not put any fluid in it - and that caused extreme damage to the engine and so forth. Our son called and spoke with Tom for help. Tom states he wrote and submitted a claim - with much delay and no rental - today Pep Boys sent our son an email saying, "we are not responsible - we are denying your claim." Stay away from Dover, Delaware Pep Boys. Believe every one of the bad reviews. Lastly, do not trust anyone who cheats a young man with one leg and an obviously disabled elderly father. There were multiple phone calls back and forth because the person working on his car insisted he get $1000 worth of work done(classic) when he specifically asked for what the warranty covered. They finally agreed to do only what he'd asked for and worked on the car for a few days. He picked up his Jeep with the old valve cover gasket just laying across the fuse box(see photo). Frankly I'm not a fan of Yelp, or making reviews, so I hope that highlights my level of annoyance- I literally got so annoyed that I downloaded the app and set up an account. Got a full set of tires. Dropped the car off. Takes two days somehow. Couple days later I'm going down the highway and there's a sudden jerk, tire is flat. No outward signs of damage. Had to put the donut on, went back a couple days later. Start hearing a grinding on the drive back. Got a call, something failed inside the tire, and oh, by the way, your whole caliper fell off. Wait, what? Couldn't prove that was them, had to have it replaced, but the tire was fixed for free. Only thing is, I took it in on a Monday and didn't get the car back until Wednesday for... reasons? So now a month passed, driving yesterday, different tire goes flat. How???? Literally no signs of damage again, has to be something faulty. Seriously y'all, go somewhere else. Every time I come in here there's no one greeting. I was waiting for a 3pm appointment at 2:45 and no one came to help me until 3:02. Ridiculous. And then, car pulls into the bay, dude starts rooting around under the hood. Bruh. It's a tire. And now they're telling me that the tire isn't covered, but at the same time they can't tell me what caused it to go flat- keeping in mind that there are literally no punctures. Let's back up to walking past 3 employees...none of them Acknowledged us walking in. My wife took my 2008 Tacoma to our local Pep Boys in Dover to have the oil changed and tires rotated. She waited 2 1/2 hours. It appears that they did change the oil. As for the tire rotation? Before she took it in, there was a slow leak in the tire on the driver's side rear of the truck. After the "rotation" the tire with the slow leak is still in the same spot. Would have said something then but I didn't find out until about three months later when the tire needed some air. Now I don't trust Pep Boys. read more

They patiently waited for me to get towed and luckily had all part in stock. The techs got me back on the road within 1 hour. New caliper, brakes, and rotors. They saved my bacon. This place is run by crooks! My girlfriend came here for a key fob battery replacement and they had the nerve to charge her $75! This is downright taking advantage of people! This is a standard key fob that is not even screwed on, you just open the fob to replace the battery and snap it back on. I don't know if Pep boys has a higher chain of command that oversees this store, but let me say this. Stores and people like this give your brand a very bad name. They do NOT do the work as they should! They are supposed to rotate the tires with each oil change & refill certain fluids. BEWRE!!!!! They DO NOT DO THIS!!!! I suspected that they were not doing the work as paid.....when I ran out of washer fluid, I took my car in for oil change. I marked each tire with chalk. Front left 1 mark of chalk, front right 2 chalk makes, and etc. upon getting back my car, the tires were NOT rotated (even though they say that they rotate for free with each oil change. I also did not have washer fluid in the car. I specifically asked them before taking my car back if they did all the work. They said yes & that it was marked on my paperwork. Recently i went to pep Boys and left for the most part as a happy customer. My tire went flat on 13 and I decided to go here to get it fixed. The part where you put air in the tire went bad, and I was hoping the small piece and labor would not be too expensive. I dropped my car off thursday night. The next day I received a call from Pep Boys asking if I wanted to get my wipers replaced because they were squeaking and brakes checked/replaced because they were squealing. My wipers were replaced a month ago and they are in great shape, and my breaks were not making any sounds that I knew of. I drive three hours per day to and from work and would have noticed something like that, so the call I got was surprising. After that, they let me know the car would be ready very soon. I went to go pick my car up. The manager was really nice. He brought me through the checkout process, and when it was time to pay, to my surprise, the service was free. It was a small cheap fix, but any other shop would have charged me $50 bucks for their time. This was free because I have the pep boys rewards card. Some advice if you are getting maintenance done there, make sure to schedule ahead of time, drop it off at night, and get a rental, or have your kid/spouse/patent drive you to work while your car gets fixed. It is a busy shop, but if you do this you will be fine. (And always do your research on the price of the service you are getting done! ) TLDR: tire valve stem fixed for free because I was a pep boys rewards member. Friendly people. read more

Visited 5-18-19 after calling ahead to confirm that the maintenance I required could be done because I live 20-30min away. Learned my lesson. Asked 5x to get my headlamps aimed over the phone/in person. They said okay. They have the car an hour. They change dead driver side low beam I previously said might be bad and say I never mentioned aiming. Plus side, previously stated dead driver low beam fixed. The whole reason I came in, in the first place (headlamp aiming), not complied with. Pretty unsat experience. First and last time I'll ever go to a Pep Boys. read more

This place is just as bad as the freaking reviews! I took my husband's car in yesterday while he rests from the flu, for an oil change and to have the headlights checked and replaced because BOTH front lights are out. My husband told them about the lights on the phone when he made the initial appointment and I also specified this when I dropped the key off. About an hour later a woman came and explained to me that they were going to change the lightbulb and put in an "economic blub" that should fix the problem and allow "all the lights to start working again altogether". They did the oil change & the tire rotation but when I came home that night we found out that they never changed the actual headlights AND DIDN'T CHECK to see if they were working before they gave the car back. So when I turned the car on that night the lights were still out! My husband was furious and got up at 7 AM to go and speak to someone in person this morning. The employee (the same one I talked to) told him that apparently they only changed the "marker bulb", (for the turn signal) which was NEVER a problem! I don't even know how the hell that happened but when my husband insisted that it was a headlight issue and that the lights needed to be changed for safety reasons the employee asked "what, are you trying to pass an inspection or something?!" Like running headlights are a luxury or something! Then told him he'd have to come back 3.5 hours later for the lights despite no other cars or customers being there! When I called to ask about the appointment the woman that answered the phone was rude as hell and when I explained to her the issue and asked to confirm the appointment she cut me off like "yeah okay. so what ELSE do you need now?" Came by a few days ago for new tires and rims to be placed on my car. Dropped off the car at the scheduled time (3:30PM) and did not get it until a little after closing (8:15PM). We ran some errands for two hours and returned, to find my car still on the lift with only two tires off and no one in sight. These things happened while my husband and I watched intently. - the guy missing for a while, helping other people (looking for items in shop or digging through trash) this happened multiple times - another employee took frequent breaks to stop and talk to the employee working on our car - honest to God, I just have no idea why everything took so damn long - they broke five lug nuts On top of that, upon further inspection, the brand new rims had a ding Thankfully they did not charge for the lug nuts they broke. We just spoke to the manager and was incredibly apologetic, as well as compensating $50. If I could give it zero stars I would. Brought my son's car up to have it worked on it a new power steering pump all the lines leading to the pump replaced, two new tires and oil change. The bill was around $2250 That was back a month Ago. The lines for the power steering pump Leaked all the power steering blew it out all over my driveway. Brought it back over a week still waiting for it to be corrected finally after calling them because they never call you to let you know what's going on with your car they said it was ready return to pick it up, the alignment was so bad on the car you had to hold the steering wheel at a 45° angle to drive down the road. They told me that was cause they eyeball the alignment because their alignment machine is not working.
