I ordered a iced latte from this and it took the cashier forever to find the button for an iced latte....BUT when I was called the first time, I was given a (hot) latte. I always come here for coffee runs for my coworkers since I work in the area. The line is never too long, and if it is, their staff moves quickly so you aren't waiting too long. The employees taking my orders are always very patient and friendly when I'm making four separate orders with separate transactions. I never feel rushed or unwelcome here! My orders always come out perfect and quickly, so a huge thank you to the bar staff!!! I've ordered multiple drinks at other coffee shops before and I've noticed their staff always gets flustered from the rush of orders so my drinks unfortunately always come out messy AND wrong. Come on, quality over quantity!!! So again, thank you Peet's bar staff for paying attention to detail and being thorough with each order. Not impressed. I'm a devout Peet's fan. The coffee is smoother and richer and they tend to make the best foam. I'm also a very snobby Cappuccino drinker. I like it EXTRA HOT, EXTRA DRY. I don't want a latte. I want a Cappuccino. I love the quality foam. This morning I visited this Peet's and have left sorely disappointed. I ordered my typical Cappuccino, EXTRA HOT, EXTRA DRY and 2% milk ,as it foams better than skim). I watched the Barista making the foam ahead of time and placing it on the bar. Already a bad sign. I had to wait almost 10 minutes as there were 4 others ahead of me.... UPDATE...Peet's apologized profusely for the less than stellar service and they even sent me a handwritten note. 2.5 Stars. I prefer Peets, although like Miz Tam T. I have occasionally sinned and walked into a Starbucks (in disguise of course). Most of the time, you'll find me at various Peets in Berkeley (the Originial, Solano, and 4th Street), Emeryville, or even Pleasant Hill. This Peets on Locust in downtown WC is my least favourite. It's dark and almost cave like. And it is SLOW and sometimes for no apparent reason. And unlike the other Peets I go to, I don't find the staff to be particularly helpful. Even the stategy of buying beans so that you can get that cup of coffee faster doesn't work that well here. read more

Not a very large interior seating area. Gets crazy crowded most mornings, especially during the week. Attractive outdoor area as Locust Avenue is a lovely tree-lined street with minimal traffic. Many morning starting at 8am three to four regulars have a jam session outside: banjo, guitar, some kind of bongo drum. Same group that plays often during the afternoons at the Peet's at Ygnacio Plaza where you'll find the Sports Basement, Fitness 19, etc. I took a great video of them playing with a dog barking to the rhythm, but can't upload it here. read more

I have walked by this Peet's location several times in the past. It seemed to be very popular and I can see why! The location is good, close to downtown, and the outdoor setup they have is really nice. The few times I have tried it so far, at varying times of the day, the lines were pretty long. However, I was impressed with how they kept those lines moving pretty quickly. They were really efficient with getting everyone in and out. They were super friendly too. I also think the espresso drinks that I got at this Peet's exceeded my expectations. I have been going to Peet's on an off for the past decade. However, the baristas here seem to be a cut above the rest. The drinks were really tasty. They also keep their bakery section fully stocked despite the crowds. I ordered my birthday reward, a large Black Tie no Chicory... 3/4 of the cup was ice, 1/4 was half-n-half, the rest was watered down cold brew & I even had to ask the barista to top it off with cold brew to fill the cup. I also ordered a large javiva with whip, & I saw that she had used the wrong scoop for the javiva powder so she ended up just adding more powder & milk, and she couldn't find the whip canister, but didn't bother to tell me. I am studying here right now (6:00PM on a Friday). The noise level is not too bad. I'm waiting for my friend to get to here so we can check out some of the bars I haven't been to yet like Residual Sugar. You can get the password to the internet and use it for one hour if you buy something. I am thinking that this is the same protocol in all Peet's Coffees. There could be more tables in here. I really love this coffee shop. The customer service and friendliness of the employees is what keeps me coming back. I could easily go to the Coffee Shop, but their employees are sometimes rude and snobby. I love how I am given suggestions about new concoctions when I come here. They know me by name, and they know what I like. It feels good to be greeted, "Good morning, Lex!" Sometimes the service is slow, but this is not often the case. The layout inside the store is a bit odd, which could probably confuse newcomers. Like other Peet's stores, they sell a wide variety of Mighty Leaf teas and assorted mugs. They also have breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, cold brew, and salad. It's really a lovely place for breakfast. My one suggestion - take their recommendations! I was on Locust four days in a row, and this Peet's was always bustling. There were always people inside, coming in/out, and early on Saturday morning there was a crowd outside listening to a small band playing music. Such a cool community vibe! The line for drinks that Saturday was a bit longer than I'd usually like, but the customer service was great and my oat milk latte came out pretty quickly, so can't complain about much. read more

I love this location! Peet's doesn't necessarily make my favorite cup of joe, but the customer service is what keeps me coming back. I love how friendly everyone is and how they seem like they take the extra step to get to know you. There is a great sense of community here with familiar faces of customers and employees alike and a laid-back vibe that isn't pretentious, but rather warm and welcoming. Their pumpkin spice lattes leave something to be desired but a coconut black tie in the summer is my ultimate favorite. I always love coming here and feel like I'm supporting a good company who cares about their customers - so very refreshing! This is my place to go for good strong coffee drinks. I have been coming here for years after moving away from the "original" Peets in Berkeley. The latte which is what I usually get is strong and well-made, just like in most Peets in the area. Customer service is excellent. The Austin woman who used to work here for a year was awesome, doing the work of two people when needed, it seemed. Lately, PJ and David come to mind as providing outstanding service and / or drinks. I tried other coffee shops. At La Scala I got a weak latte with minimal foam two out of three times. The Coffee Shop coffee drink was not as good as Peets. Slates (in Martinez) is quite good, but their cups for large drinks are smaller. At Sweetwater, they were surprised that I requested whole milk in my drink. "No, we don't have that", was their answer. It is no wonder they went out of business rather fast. read more

Peet's is Peet's, and I rarely have a positive experience at one. I've visited this location a couple times with varying results. My first visit on a Monday night, I ordered a Black Tie and modified it to the vanilla dolce per the cashier's suggestion, and after giving them 2 tries to make it right, I just drank the nonsense they handed me. The first attempt was just a plain iced coffee with no creamer, so not even close. The second attempt was basically a heavily creamed ice coffee, as opposed to the silky luxury of the condensed milk in the Black Tie. It tasted fine, but it wasn't what I ordered, so my time in their shop was kinda meh. But I returned a few days later and had a much better experience - my nonfat white mocha was very tasty, and the perfect defense against the winter cold! The location has a certain coziness to it, with several tables, and if you're lucky go park your buns at the comfy cushy chairs in the back. The employees were also friendly, but had a certain lackadaisical air about them - similar to my first botched order experience, they just seem like I'm boring them by making them work. Customers like knowing you care about their happiness! So were my experiences ok-ish enough? Sure. Was I inspired to return in a hurry? Nope. There's no shortage of chain or independent coffee bars in downtown Walnut Creek, so I'd rather keep on walking and go someplace where it feels like the folks behind the counter are invested, and maybe even inspired, and not just punching the clock. read more

This review only goes for Saturday Mornings. Every Saturday we visit Peet's for breakfast. We moved from the South Bay and have been coming here for a year. The service quality has declined in my opinion and I will try to explain why. The team changes a lot. For the last 5 visits every single order has been wrong in one way or the other. And we have kindly accepted the mistake. I get it, the line is long. It is overwhelming. One example. One gentleman that helped us out regardless of how many times we told him what we wanted to eat, he heard something else. We speak English. Is not out first language but it is very clear. I think he "assumed" we wanted something else and made up his mind. And guess what, we ate it. The next visit something else happened with our order, wrong drink. Wrong something. But you know what? It hardly every happens in downtown Oakland (where I work. They have a line that goes to the other building and they work like a frigging machine. Team work Perfection!!!) Peet's, Or Santa Clara Peet's. Also on this very place I am reviewing. It used to be like this. It did. This last Saturday we order tea and the gal that helped my husband was not very happy (Bad day?) when we needed more hot water. She slammed the cup. Left filled it up and kept up slamming things. When she had another customer she was very nice. Not to my husband. I wanted to get up and say something but it was not worth it. Really? Slamming cups? How childish. For hot water? That's part of the job. Not sure what to think. But I am not coming back here. And it is a shame. This place used to be something. We have been battling in my household. *I* keep insisting that coffee is one of our only vices so we should have GREAT coffee. Someone else, whom I shall call "Mr ex-Barista" for purposes of this review, keeps trying to buy bargain coffee. And we're talking about pound after pound of bargain coffee; in fact, we are talking multiple purchases of the giant 3 pound package of coffee at Costco. Now, he's the former barista, so it stands to reason that he should remember the lectures that he gave me back in the day -- coffee should be ground right before it's used, and (this is the main one he should remember) NEVER buy more coffee than you can use in a week as the beans deteriorate over time. RIGHT. So how does he expect a three cup a day household to go through THREE pounds in a week? Impossible, right? The first week, OK. The second week, bearable. The last week - GAG me with a spoon! I pretty much ended up taking the coffee in my to-work cup, drinking a few sips, and then switching out at the Peet's in the Embarcadero Center. So, it was PROVIDENTIAL that our grinder decided to break (I contend that it was disgusted with the beans it was forced to grind). So, now, instead of buying the beans at Costco, I sweetly suggested we go to Peet's to get the ready-ground beans. Oh, yeah! That's what we USED to do before Mr. ex-Barista became a barista. (I know it's already ground and that breaks the first rule. Shh, don't tell). So, the past four days, I've been blissfully drinking coffee brewed from Guatemalan beans (ground #12 -- for a french press, of course). I'm all for bargains. Just not in coffee. read more

I love Peet's coffee. I won't stand in a long line for it. The line this morning was about 20 deep. On weekends this place is jam-packed with what I assume to be those who jam-packed SF clubs 20 years or so earlier, before they realized you get a hell of a lot more real estate in WC than you do in SF, or Orinda. So instead of a clan of popped collars at the bar, you get a clan of those trying to relive their past through coffee and a muffin rather than gin or vodka. They've pushed the outdoor tables together and are screaming career highlights across the way. I'm at a mom & pop bagel shop next door and one of the clan comes over and asks the guy at the table next to me "Why aren't you at the cool table?" Their coffee here, I assume, is good. I had to repeat myself twice with my order because he was distracted with the conversation he was having with a co-worker. Luckily, Peet's does offer up some strong iced tea, so when the free cup that comes with a pound of beans includes a drip I don't like, this is what I do. This is the only peets location I've ordered an iced cold brew with room to pour almond milk in that they charge .60 cents for ME to pour an ounce or less of almond milk in. When I questioned the woman at the register she said to one of the other employees "like she even knows what an ounce is!" YES I DO BECAUSE I ALSO WORK FOR A COFFEE COMPANY AND CHOOSE PEETS FOR THE ALMOND MILK OPTION! So I go to the hand off bar to pour myself the almond milk and some into my fiancés cup and the box is empty and I ask for more since there was literally two drops the came out and they said they had no more. Let me start off by saying that I love Peets Coffee, but this location is horrible. They are so under staffed and service is so slow. This past week I went in to find out that they were out of non-fat, 1% and 2% milk, all they had was whole milk. How can you run a coffee shop without milk?
