My first impression walking in was very simple, a smell of coffee beans and a happy face followed by the words "hello, what would you like today?" Everyone has their go to place for their morning coffee but there is a great and simple pride that comes as a customer at this location. Peet's is clearly just getting by on the location of their stores and the quality of their beans these days. This is the second uber fail at a different Peet's trying to get them to make me an "Americano with extra room for cream". On the first attempt at this store my Americano shows up completely full. I tell the barista that I ordered it with extra room for cream, and this is filled to the brim, and to please make me another. I say, I'd like it "half-full" and point to what half full means in case they didn't teach fractions where he went to school. He says someone else put the water in, and it wasn't his fault. OK, no problem, just get me a half full one. He goes and gets the water and espresso himself this time, and comes back with a drink that is at least 3/4ths full. I say, that's half full? He mumbles, I leave. Why is this so hard for Peet's to get right? I've been a long-time fan of Peet's always preferring the taste of their coffee, the vibe of their stores and non-corporate feel of the staff. But, these days, Peet's is making it REALLY hard to like them, and impossible to love them. read more

Total fan of the San Rafael location of Peet's. Friendly staff. Drinks are exactly the same as the Peet's I usually go to. Which, to me, is crucial. I truly value knowing that I can go to any Peet's and get my favorite drink exactly the way its always made. Parking is easy. In and out off the main road is easy. Nice bathrooms. I once called this place "the ashtray" as it was surrounded by smokers, cigarette butts and a lot filled with cars. Well they replaced the outdoor umbrellas, sweep up far more frequently and seem to have a handle on their hiring. Staff is cordial turnover is not as high as it once was and the product is fairly consistent if not spectacular. On the negative side they stopped the free medium beverage when you put $25 on your card but now they finally have an app for your phone like Starbucks and this is one of the few Pete's Café is that actually allow you to use it. The staff at Pete's at 3rd Street San Rafael is excellent. The best of any Pete's in Marin County. The staff courteous and professional. Weekends I have the house coffee and the chicken chorizo sandwich. Every afternoon I purchase my usual Green Ice tea . If I am with Kat she has her usual a Chi Latte. I wouldn't give the place 4 stars if I weren't a regular. This particular Peet's is in no way renowned for its ambiance, and I don't come here when I want a peaceful place to read and/or hang out. I like this Peet's because of its convenient location next to a Whole Foods, downtown SR, and the freeway entrance. Also, once the staff gets to the point of knowing your name by heart, they become super nice and generous. I've been "hooked up" regularly, and being Customer of the Week was not so bad either. (I must have stopped by twice a day for 7 straight days!) The coffee is perfect almost always - a characteristic typical of Peet's coffee in general. Downsides of this location include overcrowding, awkward layout, and noisy kids. But perfect place to stop by for a quick pick me up cup of (amazing) coffee. read more

I was very disappointed to see a basket full of Arrowhead water at Peet's this morning. Arrowhead is a Nestle company. Nestlé is pulling ground water out of California during the worst drought in recorded history. It's irresponsible of Nestle and pure greed. I go here alot. Probably five times a week. I always ask for a large latte with room so that it is a bit stronger. About 50% of the time they forget the "with room." I usually just grin and bear it because it isn't the biggest deal and I don't have time to wait twice as long for coffee. Yesterday was the last time I will go there. They forgot the "with room" AGAIN and I have decided that simply saying "it's ok" is not ok anymore. If I order something with a request I expect it to be honored. Yesterday when I asked if they could make it again I got the total attitude and was told that I had to tell the cashier beforehand...which I did! Coffee is good when they make it the way you request it. Problem is that this only happens about half of the time. Not good enough for a five dollar coffee. Boooo! read more

This is possibly the worst Peets in the world. It's definitely the worst I've ever been to. I love Peets in general and I always look for them when I want a coffee drink but this branch is ridiculous. First of all, and this is most important, the staff is bottom of the barrel. I'd much rather have a chirpy teen serving me coffee in the morning than these morose senior citizens. I usually order a latte or mocha with soy. Milk has funny, burnt taste when it has been heated too much or too long and we take that for the normal taste of a coffee drink. It's NOT. In every other Peets I've been to, they say, 'However you want it, that's how I'll make it.' In this Peets, they absolutely refuse to heat the milk to anything less than 150 degrees, citing some health code. No other store has ever mentioned this health code and I've asked about it explicitly. When I asked to speak to the manager, they claim he's just stepped out or is too busy so on they go, burning my milk then adding cold milk to bring the temp.down. Add to that they have an ex-con with dirty fingernails and general un-kemptness grinding beans and whatnot. Ex-cons gotta work too but can't they find one who's cleaner and enjoys mornings? You can tell he was the last one out in the prison yard for morning exercise. They're opening one at the Northgate Mall, let's hope they hire better than the 3rd St. store. read more

Absolutely the worst mocha in the world, including those made in England. I bought this before this morning's commute and didn't taste it until I got to the office. I almost threw up - only the vaguest hint of chocolate and it definitely wasn't the whole fat milk I had asked for. I thought Peets was supposed to be better than Starbucks. I love Peet's. This location is not good. I went in yesterday for a cappuccino. I was having a bad morning and very sad about some personal issues. Therefore I was not as loud as usual when placing my order. The cashier was very rude about it. She had my order just right. Then she had to change something for some reason and the whole thing was off. When I politely corrected the order she was very rude stating I was not loud enough in a condescending way. Not sure her name. She is the short gray haired lady. I would not recommend ordering with her again. I would recommend the downtown Novato location instead. read more

How's it possible with such good coffee, customer service is so off base. I come here knowing the brand of coffee, and the taste hoping to be satisfied. Hence, waiting in line with five other people for the same expectations, and to wish that this one person behind the counter serving people would move a little bit faster. Never happen, people in line continue to be patiently waiting. After ten minutes, I finally arrive to the counter without a word of any good-mornings, or thank-yous from the person taking my order. Mine you, this is my first human interaction for the morning not saying that this person will set the tone for the rest of the day, but to top it off, the person behind the counter had just inform me that no brew coffee is available and I would have to wait a few minutes before its ready. Grrrrrr , Lets see coffee place ....usually means "ready" coffee...not in this case....shigh If you got a lot of time, and want to camp out in line be my guest. read more
