Went here last Saturday. The place must be under new ownership so I would avoid for a while if you intend to get coffee or mobile order. Older man and lady that seem to be running the place. The barista just up and left so coffee order just stacked up, older man had no clue the barista leaves out. The older lady was trying to work the food oven and kept saying "what the heck, how to you work this thing". It was clear the employees were stressed and didn't want to be there b/c they had poor management, I get it! Also, the older couple was standing there looking at a binder going over break schedules as the line kept getting longer. It got to a point where I felt like I was watching a Netflix series. Felt bad for all but this stuff needed to be worked out before the Saturday morning rush. read more

9/17/23 Hopefully this is the first of our great tradition--the After Ride Coffee. Just did China Camp in Marin with 2 friends, and wound down here. ....... Well, honestly, probably gonna be a hard tradition to maintain cuz now I got a bike rack and no way am I letting the bike out of my sight sitting on it... but this day it was in my trunk and all was good. This Peet's was nice. Not the biggest, but one of the nicest inside. Nice variety of seating areas and we were able to get some near a window. Picking up your order is kinda confusing though--they had 2 counters and I wasn't sure where my food would come from. Also, it appeared they forgot my breakfast sandwich, and when I got my drink like 10min after ordering I asked someone, "Hey is my sandiwch coming?".... and I got the reply, "Oh yeah, the sandwich...." This is my go to Peet's location. I remember when it was a Taco Bell back in the 90's. My drinks are always made well and the staff are delightful. I usually order iced chai lattes and cold brews. Sometimes I order a small bite to eat and get their bacon cheddar breakfast sandwich on brioche with my drink. The brioche is surprisingly really good. It hits the spot every time. There is ample parking in this small shopping center. They renovated the interior within the past year. I thought it looked fine before, but they did a fantastic job. I can't wait to go back for my next drink once the shelter in place order due to COVID-19 has been lifted. read more

This Peet's location is phenomenal. They have the best barista is of all the Peet's in the surrounding area. Every time I come my latte is perfectly made just the way I like it. I feel like if you're going to be spending four or five dollars on a cup of coffee, it better be just right, and it is every time I come here. Today I came to Peet's to get a cup of coffee, and oh no they're closed for remodel! But guess what? They have a little cart set up outside with free coffee for everyone so they don't have to just turn us away. That is a sign of a great business right there. Lastly, Riley and Nancy are the absolute best! They are both so friendly, and remember my name every time I come in and my order. Lost my business after 3rd strike in 3 days. D1, cappuccino was cold. D2, both medium cappuccinos had maybe 2 1/2" of coffee under the foam. Felt very light and should have inquired at the time. Called manager Heather; advised she would retrain. D3, specifically asked Eli (barista from D2) for VERY light foam; message apparently did not get passed on to barista. I did learn my lesson and only ordered 1 + 1 drip so I actually got some coffee, but nearby friend likes cappuccinos. As an aside, disappointed that sandwich was not heated all the way through nor cut in half, and they were not busy (actually none of the 3 days); in fairness, I assumed it would look like the display and did not request, but it's a large, unwieldy item. Sorry Peet's, at this location anyway - you need to do much better! read more

I usually prefer to go to independent coffee shops, but sometimes a girl just wants to go somewhere with reliable air conditioning and free parking, you know? And if I'm looking to go to a large coffee chain, then I'll pick Peet's on Third Street, as opposed to Starbucks at Northgate I, Peet's at Northgate II, Starbucks at Shamrock Center, or any of the other Starbucks scattered throughout San Rafael. I have to say that I'm surprised at the negative reviews here. I have rarely witnessed such good customer service, particularly at a large chain. I know turnover at places like this tends to be pretty fast, so I don't know if the same young man who I've seen a lot in the past is still the manager there, but I have always been impressed watching him interact with customers. And service is fast and efficient. I've also found this location much cleaner than the Starbucks at Northgate, which seems to be perpetually dirty. Plus, when it comes to a toss up between Starbucks and Peet's, I'll always pick Peet's, and not just because it originated locally (although that's a nice plus). I also prefer the more flavorful roast and the fact that you can get your coffee in a real mug. Wifi is fast and air conditioning is strong, which came in particularly handy when I had to do some online coursework a few summers ago during a heatwave and my internet was down. There are two small tables, which is nice if you want to stop by with your dog. read more

This place used to be the best. Never had problems until the last few months. I started ordering through the app thinking it would be easier, which it is. However, 8 out of the last 10 times I went, at least one drink has been wrong. At first, I thought it was an anomaly but now it is a consistent thing. This location is the worst, the lady who works the cash register comes across unwelcoming, how hard is it to say Good Morning or greet someone with a smile and a hello. After dropping off the Leaf at the nearby Nissan dealership on a Saturday morning, I felt like I could really use a cup of coffee. I Yelped if there was a Peet's around & this location was within walking distance. Perfect. I could get in a walk & get my usual Red Eye while the dealership slapped on a pair of new tires. From the outside, this Peet's location looks like a stone & wood cabin dropped into the city from the mountains. Walking in, barely through the doorway, I was immediately at the back end of the long line to the counter for ordering. Oh boy, this is gonna take a while. Good thing I had plenty of time to kill. But then something unexpected happened. The line moved. & kept moving. Fast. I watched the staff & they were a sight to behold. They were taking orders & cranking out coffee drinks like a NASCAR pit crew getting a race car back on the track. Next thing I knew, my Red eye was in hand & I still had plenty of time to kill. Impressive. Seriously, as a group, the fastest & most efficient staff I've ever seen at a Peet's. Or any other coffee shop, for that matter. My Red Eye was right on & I used their free Wi-Fi on my phablet for a while since there was time that still needed killing. Now I know. If I need coffee near downtown San Rafael, stat. This location and San Anselmo are my go to. The staff here are very friendly and give great suggestions of drinks. The pastries and hot food is always good and everything is made quickly! I'm surprised to see 3 stars here. Peet's is a really solid chain. Coffee wise they've stayed true to their independent Berkeley roots on many levels. It's not my favorite coffee in the world, but the espresso drinks here are really good. Almond milk latte all day! Drip coffee is strong, I like that they very their blends each day. I've never had any issues with the staff. All very polite, drinks come out fast and Peet's food is way better than Starbucks at least on a pastry level. Peet's scone game is on point! Free WiFi and parking and decent amount of seating for a small spot. Clean store. Great place to hit on my way to work or if working from home I sometimes come here for a little peace and quiet. read more

I really should have written an update when the antlers were still fresh in my mind. Prior to Christmas, I stumbled in here one afternoon to discover that the Peet's had been taken over by human-deer creatures. All of them were cheerfully taking orders for coffee and acting like it was completely normal that they had GIANT ANTLERS coming out of their heads. As if that wasn't weird enough, I was in here yesterday afternoon (because I'm a fucking boozer and am unable to wake up early) and there was a weird short woman behind the counter that may have been a robot. Maybe the only highlight of yesterday morning was calmly asking my friend "Hey, so when you punched me in the back of the head, did you use your left or right hand?" And his reply, "Oh, I used the left. My knuckle hurts. I guess I must have really smashed my knuckle into your head." The WORST part came, when, smoking outside, weird little machine woman came out and informed me that I'm only allowed to smoke in the back. Smoke in the back? Is that your way of telling me that you want me to shove my cigarette so far up your robotic little ass that you have an aneurysm? Because I can do that for you, baby. read more

Yawn. I went in sleepy headed and left sleepy headed. First of all, the store layout was confusing. Three different registers and a pickup station? Come on. That's not why I go to a cafe. It was more like a department store. Then I asked for a double cappuccino. "What size?" "What size?? A double." "Small or large?" "Uh, small." I have written a series of short stories called the DC Chronicles that, er, chronicles my experiences ordering double cappuccinos. I haven't had anything good to write about in a long time but now I do. The foam that was splashed onto my drink was more like spit. This would have to be my absolute favorite coffee spot around. I have tried out all the local Peet's, and even though I live in Novato, and pass by 2 Peet's on my commute to work, I wait until I have hit San Rafael (where I work), so I can get the best Latte around. What can I say, the staff here is pretty much amazing, and totally rock it. Of course I have my favorites...as I'm slightly picky. But all in all, they're amazing. Something I have noticed, those who have a true love for real coffee, are fans of Peet's. Those who do not actually like the flavor / taste of coffee prefer Starbuck's. Ps, Starbuck's is the worst. I found out today that long term Peet's assistant manager Jeff, was let go by the manager at this location. I have no personal involvement in this situation and just speaking as a regular customer that buys products daily. I find this impossible to believe. Jeff was major reason for store success. That manager is not well liked by customers and fellow employees at all..Peet's local regional managers really need to look into how this store is run and why this great customer oriented employee was let go. Until then I will boycott this location. read more

It's Peet's vs. Starbucks in the SF Bay Area. If there isn't a Starbucks nearby, there's a Peet's. I am not into corporate coffee chains like these, but sometimes I can't help but stop by. I had a pumpkin chai latte, but there wasn't any pumpkin flavor. It just tasted like a regular chai. The staff were really casual at this location, and a bit unprofessional.
