I was super excited to see that Peet's came out with protein drinks. I was skeptical at first but I was honestly so surprised on how good this was. I got the iced protein matcha with almond milk & added vanilla syrup and it was so so good!! Tasted very creamy like a milkshake almost. My only complaint was that this was $8.35. Crazy. I didn't want them ground. Anyway, I didn't say anything because I thought I will be able to use them one way or another, but after days of battling mokapots or pressurised baskets I'd rather never buy from Peet's again :( (this includes other experiences with ordering.) I ordered a to-go family sized portion and they couldn't fulfill the order. Instead of telling me before and letting me know when I showed up to pick the order up they told me they couldn't fulfill the order and were unable to offer me a refund. I ended up on the phone for an hour with customer service trying to get my 30 bucks back. Don't go here it's a mess. read more

I had the most pleasant experience at Peet's today. While the staff has always been pleasant and professional, today was extra special. Since I am highly lactose intolerant, I was concerned about their mocha (the chocolate syrup ingredient) containing dairy. Johanna went above and beyond to check on the mocha powder ingredients to make sure it didn't contain dairy. Because it says it is MAY contain milk due to shared factory machinery, she thoughtfully offered me make me a mocha using pure cocoa powder (used for their hot chocolate), almond milk and simple syrup. The taste was on point! I understand I cannot expect this level of service every time, especially during busy times of the day, but knowing this hack is a possibility really made my day. i have been a big fan of this coffee shop vs the one a few blocks down AND the many other Peet's locations for several reasons. 1. staff has been very friendly and open. welcoming staff who greet you (or maybe that's because i'm considered a regular Peetnik now- thanks barista Nadim!) and offer suggestions when you're feeling brave to try new and delicious coffee. 2. i have never had drip coffee here as i am an espresso and latte lover, but i must say that when i grabbed a small coffee drip (dark roast)- it was pretty good. 3. good taste is subjective, and for someone who has had the same type of coffee 2-3x a month, i would say i can tell when it's being butchered. i have had horrible tasting coffee made consistently at the Peet's in South SF and occasionally at Peet's in Stonestown. This location at West Portal pretty much became my favorite as a lot of them closed down downtown. 4. they work very hard to keep the place clean, and covid compliant throughout the years so i commend them when lines are never long, and supplies are constantly full and questionable ppl (ie homeless, weirdos) are addressed promptly. kudos to the staff here (ie. Nadim, Jasmine, etc) and the new hires they are training! the newbies who have made my coffee did not disappoint so i made sure to compliment their excellent work! 3.5 Stars. This Peet's Coffee should be my favorite location because it is in my favorite neighborhood in SF. I have ordered coffee and hung out in their coffee shop countless times. As much as I like this tiny Peet's location and the friendly neighborhood feel that comes with it, there are a few reasons why I can't give it the five stars that I want to. First, their drip coffee is not good. Since coffee is their business, this should be the most important criteria to perfect. Many times when I have ordered their drip coffee, the flavor is VERY bland. I'm not sure if they are skimping on adding grinds during the making process, but the taste is truly lacking. After having so many disappointing cups, I no longer order drip coffee at this location. Other Peet's locations do not have this problem with their drip coffee, namely, the Embaradero location in the Ferry Building, as their drip coffee flavor is consistently outstanding. Second, there are a few small tables at the front of the store, which is cramped, but okay and a few outside, which is nice, but there are no outlets in the whole store. Recently when I came, they have added many small tables towards the rear of the store, which is great for seating more customers. Third, the staff is a mixture of personalities, some friendly, some overwhelmed. I tried to ask a worker a quick question on my last visit and she wouldn't answer or attend to any question until she had finished helping everyone in line first, which there were about 6. She definitely seemed overwhelmed and unable to multitask. Fourth, the bathroom at this location is always dirty and poorly maintained. There is no mirror, a very cold feel, and often times a wait. Furthermore, this location makes it very hard to use a coupon. Last time, the staff made us click almost 10 links on my phone to pull it up. They should just give the customer the discount if they mention it. Staff should also be knowledgable of current promotions, which often times they are not. The thing I do like about this Peet's coffee location is their espresso drinks. As long as it's a handcrafted beverage, using the espresso machine, there is a good chance the taste will be decent or pretty good. On my most recent visit, the boy making my latte added some cute latte art, which was a very nice surprise as none of my latte drinks in the past at this location had latte art. I hope this Peet's Coffee location will make the necessary improvements to make this store excellent because the West Portal neighborhood is an excellent neighborhood for local SF residents. read more

Been a Peet's fan for many years. One of my roommates would make 101 that was so strong I swear it burned a hole in the pot, but it got us through many late nights when burning that candle! I came in to take advantage of a reward. If you don't have the app, get it. Keep some funds in it or use Apple Pay or any other card. If you're like me and have not bought a # of coffee at $18/lb, bring smelling salts. I will continue to use the Keurig @ less than 50 cents a cup. The French Press will be returned. I first started coming to Peet's on West Portal back in 1989, when they were the only coffee place on West Portal. Didn't know what the big deal was with the people streaming in and out of the place. Even with S-bux down the street, I still went back to Peet's every weekday for my cup of serenity each morning for the past 30+ years. Consistency is the best word to describe their coffee-full bodied, whether brewed or specialty, I always got what i came to expect. The staff has gone through a generation of changes, but the same cheerfulness and efficiency is another consistent part of Peet's. Mostly metered parking in the area. A good place to stop in before, or after, the Stern Grove Festival's Sunday Concerts. I LOVE Peet's coffee! Probably one of my favorite ones in SF because of it's cozy feel. It's smaller than other Peet's I've seen but the drinks are still at its best. Service is great here! All the workers are super friendly! Tried their white mocha, black tie, chocolate hazelnut mocha, matcha latte, caramel macchiato, javavivas, etc. and never been disappointed. I also love their pumpkin bread during the holidays or their petite scones! Their bathroom is super clean too. Only downside of this location: no power outlets. I wasn't going to do a review but I feel like they deserve more than the 3.5 stars that they have on Yelp. Walked in at 7:40 on a Friday with an order for 6 drinks and the barrista whipped all the drinks out fast without giving us grief and they were made nicely. I like that the drinks aren't overly sweet. Peets is much much better than Starbucks and this location isn't an exception. The only thing that caught my attention was that the vanilla cardamom latte didn't really taste like cardamom. But it may just be the amount of spice mixed in that blend. I was in today on a cold morning. I cant recall my cashiers name, or even my baristas, but everyone had the lovliest attitude on another pandemic morning monday. My cashier had a black mask covered in bejeweled bits and only had kind words for me. My barista told me of her family friends mask business, and a green sweater with sweet little sunflowers on it. I walked by this place first and saw a handful of people getting coffee. Then I went to Starbucks down the street. It was a line out the door with a ton of people using laptops to freeload on internet. I was debating if I should stand in a long line or.. I ran back to Peet's. The staff were really friendly, cheerful and made my mocha in a few minutes. I'm glad I didn't stand in line at Starbucks. I think the line just never moves every time I walk past. I got a medium Cafe Mocha, added a shake of sugar and 2 sprinkles of cocoa. Sat at a corner table, drank my mid morning brew and relaxed to some some classical music playing from my iPod. I make it a point to not leave bad reviews but this location I've personally had it. Been going here for years and my orders almost never comes out right recently. This morning was the last straw. The portion of my order was not made and I patiently wait like i always do until I finally asked. Then the manager points to a table that doesn't have my first initials and said to check there. Well, no drinks there and it was said with an attitude They said it didn't print when the label I'm looking at clearly said it so the items that were missing were not made. I know they're trying their best during these times but all of my mobile orders... not happy. I go to sloat and that's my favorite location in the city. Great staff here, so much nicer than when I used to pop in. Very helpful and you can tell a lot of the regulars know the staff. I was browsing for a gift and sitting in the table next to the tins of tea was a SFSU college freshman who popped up to ask if I needed assistance. She wasn't even working there! She told me she works at the Stonestown Peet's store and was sitting there with her laptop, SFSU sweatshirt and jeans. She helped me decide on the tin of tea and thermos. What a nice Peet's employee. I told the Peet's WP employee about what this young girl did and she told me she was meeting with the mgr of the Peet's Stonestown the next day and would tell the mgr about her. I bought a $25 gift card and got a free latte for the purchase. Very good coffee and not upsetting to my stomach.
