This is also where Andytown roasts and packages all their beans. I saw some of this activity happening in a flurry behind the barista. I didn't know Andytown has a Northern Irish heritage but found out their in-house baked goods reflect that lineage. I ordered the $3.50 Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the prominent amount of salt was indicative of true Irish technique (Photo 10). When we entered the café, my friend had a cup from another café. As soon as we walked in, the barista immediately told me, "You can't bring in outside drinks or food." It took me a moment to understand what she was referring to, since I didn't have anything with me, before realizing she was referring to my friend's empty cup. I explained that my friend intends to order a drink as well. Instead of simply acknowledging that, the barista repeated, "Well, are you ordering a drink to go? Because you can't bring outside drinks here." My friend heard the exchange, threw away her empty cup, and then stood in line to order with me. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational, especially given that the cup was empty and my friend was planning to purchase something. A simple, polite reminder about the cafe's policy would have been enough. It's a shame because I really like the location and cozy atmosphere. On a Summer stroll where rain drops fall and the sun comes out after I landed on Ocean ( not the beach) avenue.
