I've been coming here since around 2007 or 2008, back when it first opened. Over the years, I've seen the staff come and go, but the team today (and back then with Scott and Milette) truly makes me feel welcome, special mentions go to Rosie, Belinda, and Walter. Back then, I lived just minutes away with my parents, so this place became a regular part of my routine. Even now, though I live out on the Peninsula, I still make it a point to stop by a couple of times a week when I'm in town visiting my mom. Something about Peet's Fruitvale just brings me back, it still hits like it did all those years ago. There's a certain nostalgia that looms over me whenever I'm here. Being around this place through so many seasons: from those early college days and needing that caffeine, to jogging around the Dimond District, and to walking our family chihuahua (rest her soul), brings a feeling I can't quite put into words, but one I feel deeply. I usually pick up a pound of whatever limited series roast they have, which comes with a complimentary cup. Occasionally, I'll grab the egg white frittata too. I like to sit for a bit while I sip my coffee, take a breath, and collect myself before continuing with the day. The shop has always had a comforting, relaxed vibe. While it may not be the safest area or the biggest location compared to the others, it doesn't need to be, it has heart, and that's what keeps me coming back. read more

There's a pretty good chance I come back here and up the review later. For a first impression, my drink order was wrong and they tried to serve me twice, the second time with another incorrect drink. The Barristas are friendly though and the place has tables. My sandwich and coffee tasted like Peet's. I'm looking for a new coffee place now that I've moved that's on my way to work. This one was nice enough I'd consider coming back but not nice enough of an experience that I'm coming back tomorrow. read more

my daughter got an iced Matcha latte here - they put so much ice in it that when I took the ice out the cup was half full. The ice cubes are really large so you get less of the drink. Ask for no or little ice! read more

The worst experience ever waiting for the stoned cashier and 1 barista making drinks for pick-ups, rather than an in-person customer. I waited for 15 minutes till I had to ask - "They were many orders ahead of you." If the cashier weren't so stoned, he might have compassion to serve a customer waiting in front of him. I saw many drinks waiting for pick-up. I couldn't take the insult and asked to cancel my order. After 20 min, my EV charged faster than getting a drink at this Peet's. I frequent this Peet's quite often. It can get busy, and finding a seat can be tricky, but once you do, it's a good spot to get some work done. The staff is friendly, and the service and food are fine. There are a lot of locals hanging out here, which gives it a cool vibe. Sometimes I walk across the street to grab a sandwich and bring it back to enjoy with my iced tea or drink. There's parking in the back, and they even have electric charging, though it's too bad the charging spots used to be free. My go to order is their cafe latte with whole milk (extra hot, with zero calorie sweetener) and trust me they never go wrong with it. The cashier and barista are both so nice and friendly. Their service is quick. Takes less than 1 minute. I get their small size and it comes out to approx $5. It's worth the money and taste. I tried other Peet's locations and none of them are as good as them. I microwave my coffee to heat it up (for 15-20 seconds) after 10 minutes and cup doesn't leak. I noticed that my review from 6 years ago doesn't reflect my experience now. Place how gotten MUCH better. I'm pretty sure Peet's employees are trained to shout welcome when people enter. Despite that, it's actually nice. Everyone there is friendly and the spot is clean. The only qualm/complaint is that the cinnamon powder is by request while at other spots it's out and accessible by all. When I asked about it, I was told that it's been stolen a couple of times so it's not a big deal to go ask. When ordering in person I ask for extra cinnamon. Very specific review for today, but overall I have been warmly welcomed and helped by staff in this location whenever I used to visit, pre-Covid. This morning, I made an order through the app and due to my own confusion/oversight, ordered for pick-up instead of delivery. I couldn't leave to go pick it up, so I made another order, identical, for delivery. I figured my pick-up order would sit and wait, or hopefully someone on staff might take it. But when my order was delivered, both orders were there in the bag! Such kind attention to and insight into my mishap. Thank you Baristas! Service was inconsiderate. Normally we receive great service, but our July, 2024 visit was uncommonly very bad. Camden appears to be doing her best, but she is unable to connect with customers. Counter was empty so I started looking at desert treats. I looked up to place my order and more customers had entered the store. She made me go to the end of the line. I politely moved to the back of the line after trying to explain. She did not care to try to understand, nor did she pretend to be polite. I tried one more time to explain, but she did not care about the customer. I don't mean to sound like a Karen, but I was disappointed with this experience. More expensive and slower than other coffee shops. Im more of a Starbucks person but this Peet's is somewhat close to my job, so i occasionally come here. They are super slow, even-though it looks like they have a full crew, 10-15 mins for some cold brew.. I tried ordering ahead of time on app, but app wasn't working.. even if you order ahead, drink won't be ready when you walk in. Also, they're all over the place. Very confusing set up on where to get your drink, they don't even tell you where to wait for your drink, one counter has pick up orders another had pastries and online orders coming out another has drinks.. could be better organized read more

Nice staff. Strong coffee. Observation: wait time tends to be longer at Peet's compared to Starbucks. And this location tends to take longer than other Peet's. I've been in this store twice now and on both occasions there were no seats as a bunch of people do "pretend work". Sort of stinks because I actually wanted to sit down and eat my purchase at a table instead of in my car. I liked how they cut their banana bread from a loaf compared to Starbucks - where it comes pre-cut in individual wraps. Overall: not a horrible place just be prepared to wait. read more

I love my local Peet's! Stop by almost daily and food, beverages, service, and speed - always on point! Messes are always taken care of pronto so the store's always nice and tidy. Even the customers at this Peet's are super friendly which is saying a lot because humans before coffee can be terrifying! The woman who always wears bright lipstick and has a cute gap in her teeth needs to cool her attitude about this. I concur with the reviews requesting attitude adjustments for some of the baristas.. on top of that idk why the drinks aren't as good as other locations. Peet's official coffee page posted last night that handcrafted beverages were half off from today through Sunday (no code). So I come in hoping to try their new honey macchiato.. No-go from the cashiers without showing them a coupon, just the Facebook post. Another (manager?) stepped in and told the cashier to give me half off my order and went to the back. Cashier rang me up.. said he could only give me half off one. Whatever at this point no point in making a scene over $2.. I apologize to the barista making my drink that I forgot to specify light ice (don't like it diluting me coffee). She didn't acknowledge me.. just rolled her eyes and huffed/puffed while dumping out the ice. There's no need for attitude.. it's not like you had already poured my coffee.. It's pretty alright. It's my go to coffee shop because it's the one nearest me. No expectations of anything from me. It just is what it is. I do wanna mention that I had a really uncomfortable interaction with a staff member and felt the need to rush out of there. A colleague and I just got robbed here 2.5 hours ago. We were at the counter on our laptops and two men came in, were physically aggressive and ran out with our devices. The employees ran to the back (or ducked), which I completely support--it was scary. AND they didn't call the police. We had to ask them twice before they did. Furthermore, of the three staff present, none of them asked if we were ok, yet three customers checked on us and someone off the street came in to see if we were ok. We were there 45 minutes after being robbed (waiting on police who never showed up) and they never checked in other than at the end of that period to let us know the police often don't show and to give us a card with the managers name. I am a frequent at this venue and I have never had a negative experience, but this is bad enough to bring my rating way down. Peet's, laptop stealing is the new common Oakland crime. Train your employees to use phones when appropriate. read more

Not a coffee expert but definitely an avid (Peet's) coffee drinker. I only go to this location because it's right next to my apt and whenever I do my drink tastes horrible. I order the same thing every time and for some reason my iced vanilla latte is always watery/acidic. My drink tastes and even looks different when I go to other locations so I'm not sure what it is... it's like the quality of espresso is way different here? Better off driving to Lake Merritt or Emeryville. read more

I Just stopped by to grab coffee and hot chocolate for my daughter. I was the only one there and after I waited for 20min, I approached the young girl when the hot chocolate would be ready. She completely ignored me. She served another customer with caramel macchiato who came after me. Then I had to go to the cashier, INGRID, and asked for my money back and she was VERY, VERY RUDE. She'd does not deserve to be there. She needs customer service 101, and learn how to smile and understand customer needs to be respected. Laura, relatively sympathetic and asked me if I want the drink for FREE, and my response was No. I ran a Bussiness and customer service is very important and they do not deserve my money. The manager needs to properly train the staff in this place, there is a constant message from customers saying .....BAD CUTOMER SERVICE, you need to listen to US. I have to dock Peet's one star for two reasons: One, they don't have nearly enough seating. Two, I really hate their tea selection--only one herbal tea on the menu?! It was really hard to hang here when I was pregnant and not doing the caffeine thing! On the upside, the folks who work here are very friendly and treat you like you're a regular.
