Parking can be hit or miss depending on whether there are events going on but there are a couple lots as well as covered parking by Safeway a couple blocks away. read more

I will either stop in here in Los Altos or the Peets in Mountain View, both are great stops. Mountain View is a bit bigger. Sometimes you just need a strong cup of coffee and Peets delivers. Usually I will do half caf, just because I do not want to be so hyped that I am joggin around Los Altos screaming " Just give me some more coffee" So glad to be able to purchase some Java. Little bit we outside today, nothing that a cup of hot coffee cannot fix! Next time you are on State Street stop on in. Not far off First and close to the downtown Safeway. So I'm sitting and enjoying a cup of Peet's at my favorite location here on State Street in Los Altos, and my mind starts rolling back through the years. And then it hits me: my god, this is the longest relationship I've ever been in. See, Peet's and I go way, way back. I've been a Peetnik for over 50 years now. I started out at the original location on Vine Street in Berkeley in 1971. It's mind blowing to think of how many cars, jobs, girlfriends, apartments and houses I've gone through in that fifty years. But the one thing that never changed was my passion for Peet's Coffee. Wherever I travel around the state I always try to find the nearest Peet's. Despite Shakespeare's assertion that "comparisons are odorous," I always find myself comparing any new Peet's I visit to the original Vine Street location. That's why this location in Los Altos is my favorite Peet's. This store more than any other captures the vibe of the original. The baristas here are the best. Top notch! And unlike the Peet's in the city I live in, here at the State Street Los Altos location I can usually get a cup of Major Dickasons. Not always, but often enough. See, The Major is Peet's signature blend. And it's my favorite coffee of all time. But in the years since Peet's sold out to whoever owns it now, they've seriously lost their way. Rarely will you find an urn of The Major waiting for you when you walk in the door at most locations. That's just all kinds of wrong. These days it seems like Peet's is falling all over themselves trying to be Starbucks. I mean, Cafe Domingo? What is this crap? (Sorry, I know it's not fashionable to have strong opinions these days, but there's only so much a man can take.) I know some stooge in marketing would be quick to point out how well their medium roast coffees sell. It's all about the bottom line to the bean counters. I get it. There's tons of money to be made catering to people who don't know the difference between good coffee and Starbucks. Peet's used to be cutting edge. Peet's was the trend setter. Now it seems to want to be just a Starbucks knock off. So sad. I went back to the original Vine Street location in Berkeley last year and I was horrified. It no longer had any of the original vibe whatsoever. It's a soulless corporate catastrophe now. But here in Los Altos the vibe is strong and unrelenting. This Peet's is for real. Matcha tasted great, it just wasn't what I ordered and paid for. It wasn't as busy but there was only one worker on bar and maybe he was having a bad day but he had made the wrong drink at first and so he made it again off memory instead. Didn't add the cold foam I ordered and when I asked him he said "it's already mixed in". He should've just been honest and said he forgot to top it off with cold foam. It doesn't seem to staff enough people to keep up with orders or something else is off on how orders are being filled. The app also marks orders filled before they're actually complete. Seems like every item is handled as a separate order. The barista helping with the order today seemed completely overwhelmed. It's a very busy location, for its size. The Egg White, Tomato & Feta Frittata is pretty tasty and I really like Café Domingo medium roast, so smooth. read more

Deceptive pricing during their Super Bowl weekend. If you wear your Niners gear you get 49% off your drink or a free coffee. Total should have been $3.50 but it ended up being $7.50. It was busy and I questioned why it was $7.50. She gave me a curt answer. I think she rung it up a certain way where the price was double what it should be. Had a Vanilla Latte with Holiday spice on top! Very pleasant flavors especially for the holidays! Oh and also had a piece of their pumpkin bread. Very good! The service was good they recommended the Pumpkin bread since I wasn't sure what to order. The Christmas music was playing but I have to say there wasn't enough seating and spilled coffee on the floor so it was not the cleanest place. They have one long table to share and several small round and square tables and also a table to use your computer and have places to charge it. There is also 5 chairs you can kind of lounge in. This has been my main source of coffee for years and I'm finally getting tired of the service level. I go in about 4 days a week but service has dropped significantly over the past month and when I go in, there is medium roast coffee ready only about 50% of the time. I am just trying to grab a prepared cup of coffee and run. If I wanted to wait for pour over coffee, I'd just make myself at home. This morning was the first time I tried to get coffee and was told they didn't have it prepared so I just walked out, went home and made my own. Geez... I have such a love hate relationship with this Peet's... One out of five times they drive me crazy and I almost vow to never return... but then I come back and have normal or way above average experiences here. Today, they are totally slammed between in person order and mobile orders. This is definitely not the fault of the front line employee, it seems that the app is not geared to give accurate estimates and if you did not budget extra time, prepare to be frustrated. I have been coming to this Peet's for a while and normally I have not had any issues but that recently changed. So for the last few months Peet's had blocked off the entrance and so you needed to take orders only outside. That was actually fine by me as I would order without wearing a face covering. Further I have read all the studies that face coverings have actually no protection to you or the community based on actually clinical studies that have been done out there. Sorry I'm a biologist that worked in pharma for years in clinical studies in the past so I'm well aware of how to read research papers and the data is just not there folks. Fast forward to a week or so ago and I came without my mask as I had always done in the past to order to buy a drink not realizing that they had now opened up the store to go inside and order only. I walked in and the first issue I immediately had was the barista told me I needed a mask to order a drink. I told him I didn't bring one because I always had ordered outside where they never required one. The barista seemed nice and then told me they had some available for use and told me to get one at the entrance. That was fine so I went to find one and never saw any so I went back to tell them I didn't see any and where they were. This is when things started turning ugly where the lady next to the barista started threatening me to leave the store immediately if I was not wearing a mask. I told her that the barista said you had masks to wear and where are they??? So here is her reply. She tells me the barista misspoke and they actually didn't have any masks and so the lady next to the barista said that I would therefore have to leave immediately. I then asked for the manager as I have a letter from my Doctor that specifically states that I do not have to wear a mask and that I am not causing any harm to others by not doing so. So this lady manager comes out and told me basically that the orders said I had to wear a mask and they are no longer giving out any masks and that customers should by now be aware they should have masks to get service and there is nothing she can do at this point nada. I proceeded to tell her that there is no way they can force me to wear a mask if it harms my own health and immune system (breathing your own CO2) but I get a blank stare back. This is where the other lady behind the counter interjected that I must immediately leave now and they are denying me service. She was extremely rude and had no sympathy to the situation at hand. She basically told me go and complain to management; we need you to leave immediately:(((boooo This business has all but lost my support for any services in the future. I am completely healthy and am not contagious and would never walk into an establishment if I was sick. I have a mask I just didn't have it at the time. The fact that they basically treated me like a little child and had no interest to at least take my order even outside their establishment like I requested shows that they had no interest in listening or respecting their customers. Sorry but you have bad karma Peet's.. After I left a customer literally went in after me had no mask and covered her face with her shirt and they gave her service. Again discrimination at it's worst. I like Peet's more than Starbucks, Philz, and Verve...for their fair pricing for green tea. I came here after my Covid booster shot to get the largest possible glass of green tea to boost my body's immunity. They charge exactly the same price for the largest cup size. Just a little bit more water and paper. The number of green tea bags doesn't change. Very different pricing philosophy from Starbucks that charges more for a larger cup. It's a tiny bit more paper and water, however the number of teabags doesn't vary. They also had a small turmeric and orange juice shot. Reduces inflammation and Vitamin C... I just have to buy it whenever I see it. I brought my own raw honey (antibacterial) with me. Such a lovely concoction. I used to make a lot of this lovely green tea-orange juice-turmeric-honey drink when the pandemic started. Along with copious amounts of miso soup and kimchee. I left a 30% tip in the jar (it was very close to closing time) and the guy at the front desk pretty much just let me sit there and slowly enjoy my tea instead of throwing me out at closing time. I strongly detest being rushed while enjoying a cup of tea. Good service. read more

One of my favorite Peet's locations, largely because it has ample seating and preserves a lot of the college-town cafe vibe these places are supposed to. They keep it clean as well. The bad news is (1) it gets absolutely overwhelmed by cyclists on the weekend (presumably skipping off Foothill Expressway for a quick stop) and (2) it can get noisy inside. The tables in back offer some refuge from the noise but you can get a lot of foot traffic coming in/out of the rear door. read more

The staff at this location is great. They are always really nice and really polite. I usually order some hot jasmine tea. I add a little honey from their condiment bar and the day becomes a little bit better. I like that Pete's always has honey for their patrons as well as liquid sugar and regular sugar. Pete's tea selection is superior to Starbucks but their Chai Latte's are a bit weak. The best thing about this location is their recent renovations. I think the store looks better, the space is bigger and there are more places to sit now. The only negative is that they allow dogs in the store and if you are allergic to dogs, this can cause a bit of asthmatic issues. read more

Finally received pretty excellent service via a male barista who helped me order on the app. It wasn't working on my end but I appreciated that he was curious as to why and asked his coworker if other mobile orders were coming in -- wait, someone who is concerned about incoming orders and dare I say *sales* at this location? More often than not, there's a lot of apathy to go around here but not today! I lucked out. I definitely prefer Peet's on Homestead next to Trader Joe's but I've been obsessed with their brown jelly drinks of late (even though a medium golden latte is $7!) so a visit to downtown LA couldn't be avoided. Young, friendly, enthusiastic staff and a neat well organized store make this my default Peet's. Extremely popular with spandex biker gangs and yoga pant Mom posses; they all like to sneer at me when I take the track car for my caffeine fix. It can be super crowded during prime time but the line(s) move quickly and remain organized. Ample indoor and limited outdoor seating is available. I've yet to get a badly made drink and the "Fixins Bar" is always clean and well stocked. Awesome selection of raw tea...try the Genmai Cha, it is very good. Pro Tip: Parking in front or rear is sketchy at best, you're better off parking in the nearby Safeway parking lot and walking down to the store. Cheers! read more

I have been drinking coffee since that fateful night in BSA when our sponsor club's dinner waitstaff ignored my table. There was nothing else to drink except for a big thermos of coffee so I had my first cup. It was not good. This was many years ago and I have had much better coffee since then especially at Peets. Peets offers flavorful coffee with professional staff at affordable prices. I drink Major Dickinson's blend it at home but still love to get a coffee downtown at Peets. The blended drinks are also delicious and are my friend's favorite! Ice coffee can be a drag at other stores. Usually you get a cup of bland watery coffee and a cup of ice you throw away. Peets has the only iced coffee I like! It is strong, holds up to the ice melting and wow- it compelled me to wrIte this review. Add lavender syrup to that and wow. Beyond the delicious drinks the staff is always great and friendly- and very professional. No goofing around while you are waiting! The bathrooms are clean, the store is always tidy. Absolutely disgusting!! When you think of thick body oder in a small dank place...you're at Peets in Los Altos. After climbing over a horde of bicyclists and dogs, your eyes will need a minute to adjust to the dark. It's a mess in here so be careful....Okay, you're finally at the cash register ordering and a jerk comes over and pushes his way to the front and says he was there first. Really?? Why didn't the cashier say a word to this jerk?? Is that how it's done here? I just turned around and headed towards the light...the front door. Again, be careful as the floor is littered with napkins and some sticky stuff that will stick to the soles of your shoes...Climbed back over the front crowd and left in a daze. I will never return. Note to management...Try stopping by on a Saturday morning. You will be appalled. Why is so dark in here? It's not romantic or mysterious..it's just horrible. I had to go home, relax and shower to get the smells off my clothes and to calm down. I'm in town almost everyday and I will never even venture to this part of State Street on a Saturday. Came by this Peet's on a couple occasions as my friend works right around the corner. I'm a big fan of Peet's as their coffee has more flavor, and isn't bitter, like the *other coffee joint.* On both occasions, the coffee was great but the service was mediocre, borderline rude. Ya know, it could've been a bad day for Bill at Peet's, but he was not into helping people last night... We walked over to Peet's after a nice cycling ride because the Starbuck's we usually go to was already closed.....Hey! It's daylight savings! I do love Peet's coffee for it's deeper, richer flavor. I had to repeat my order again and again because the obviously exasperated Bill didn't understand it. (Lite Iced Decaf NonFat Latte w/ 1 Raw Sugar) I joked that the "other guys" encourage complicated orders....the barista got it, but Bill did not. I know this is a place with a different vibe, but I think that a smile and eye contact are paramount when dealing with a public retail client. I'll try again w/in a few weeks. read more
