In the core of downtown Markham. Pears is an asian fusion spot with some pretty elevated dishes. The duck 5 course is pretty impressive. Smokey duck breast but served in Peking duck style. Then theres a duck pot pie, duck wings and skin, duck confit. Very distinctive flavors in each of those. I also really enjoyed the crab truffle chawanmushi, bone in char siu and mushroom fried rice.

Revisited this place after a year. Menu has changed a bit since my last visit. This time around I got: - Mushroom Fried Rice: this was my favorite dish since last time and it's still just as good. - Lobster Wontons: surprisingly quite yummy but only 4 pieces - KFC Sliders: surprisingly very impressed with this too. Chicken was so moist and tasty! Probably my new favorite item from here. - Pear Salad: this was okay but nothing special - Flora (Green tea, hibiscus, lychee, rose sugar): would not order this again...very bland and didn't even taste like green tea lol. The only lychee flavour was the one piece of lychee fruit Service was friendly, but nothing special

Came here on a Thursday night and it was quite busy for a weeknight. The atmosphere was nice but the service was quite poor. Our server only came twice, which was when we first arrived and sat down and when we paid for the bill. She actually never came during the whole time we were there and never checked on us. Given the price range of this place, I'm surprised at the lack of and poor service. We waited quite some time before having to wave just a random waitress to come and take our order and we had to keep waving for random servers to help us fill our water and get the menu to order a dessert. We were also there to celebrate a birthday and informed the restaurant about it when we made the reservation. We were told that for birthdays, there's a complimentary dessert or if we order one, they could write "happy birthday" on the plate. After being seated, we reminded our server about this (the one who never showed up until bill time), and not only did we not receive any complimentary anything, but there was no "happy birthday" written on our dessert that we ordered and paid for. I think that is quite unacceptable given what we were told and we also reminded them upon being seated. What kind of service is this? This is pure ignorance of customers' requests and lack of follow through of their own restaurant policy about complimentary dish for birthday celebrations. In terms of food, we ordered the following: Wagyu Beef Siu Mai, Handmade Lobster Wontons, Crispy Broccoli, Crab Truffle Chawanmushi, and Black Sesame & Tofu Baked Alaska. We wanted to get the Shrimp & Scallop Toast but was told that it was not available so that was a bit disappointing too. Overall, all the food tasted pretty good and were aesthetically presentable. However, given the price point, I wouldn't say they tasted exceptionally outstanding. None of them were so special to a point that I'd feel like I must come back for that particular dish again. Overall a mediocre experience with pretty food that tasted decently palatable but with very poor (or lack of) service.

Everything was delicious! The bone marrow was rich and flavorful yet hard to believe the warm milk bread was the star of the show (we even got some extra to-go). Who woudlve thought brocolli, strawberries and whipped feta was a wicked combination! Duck sliders were also a hit. Beautiful modern decor and excellent service. The server took a lot of time to explain almost everything on the menu. Looking forward to trying their new brunch menu as they have recently collaborated with Glass Kitchen).

Lovely restaurant with great service. Food was good and every dish was beautifully presented. Love the presentation, and the creativity the chef put into each dish. Chicken and waffle was excellent, and the bone marrow congee is worth a try. I'm not a big fan of the Thai toast, although presentation wise it gets a ten. Note that ube latte is an actually espresso latte with some ube flavouring, not the usual caffeine free ube with milk type of latte.

Lovely restaurant and great services. Very comfortable We orders the Prix, plus extra $30 for the 16oz . Also ordered the mocktail champagne, Tuna tataki as appetizers, streak, cheese cake for dessert

Located at the corner of Birchmount and Enterprise. There is plenty of parking out back (be careful with all the construction happening) This is a Thai fusion with very well presented arrangements The restaurant is not very big and the seating was a little cramped. Not much privacy if that is what you are looking for. The staff are plenty friendly and prompt. They have a good understanding of the foods and the taste profiles to provide a good overview when you are undecided.

I've been wanting to try this spot for a while but never got around to it, so we decided to go today. Overall, it's definitely on the pricier side. Personally, I felt like many of the dishes were elevated or fancier versions of Asian classics. The crab truffle chawanmushi was super creamy, with crab meat on top and truffle flavors. For $40...ya idk it wasn't anything crazy and I would have loved it with a bowl of rice (maybe that's me being too Chinese lol). But also I've seen other review of the chawanmushi and it seems like every time, the amount of crab on it is different. Mine didn't seem to have as much compared to the other pictures I have seen which just tell me that they have inconsistencies. It just felt like a lot to just be eating on its own. The mala cream udon was really tasty, I loved the creaminess, cheesiness, and the addition of Chinese pork and spices but it also felt like something that could be make at home. The tuna tataki came with only three pieces for $22, which felt quite small for the price. The flavors were good, but the portion was underwhelming. My favorite was probably the Basque cheesecake it had a rich, creamy texture with a slight hint of saltiness. The Korean fried chicken sliders were also great, the crispy chicken with a well-balanced sauce. For drinks, we got the Zazatar and Golden Pear, and both were really good. The Zazatar, in particular, was quite strong which I liked. While the food was enjoyable, it didn't quite feel worth the price. For this style of food, I think you could find similar options and flavors at a more reasonable price point elsewhere in Markham. Nothing of the dishes like blow me away which is why I'm saying this. The staff were very kind and attentive, which I appreciated. However, the timing of the dishes was a bit off. We received and finished the tuna, then the sliders came out, followed by the udon. Finished that and then we waited about 15-20 minutes before my main (the chawanmushi) arrived, which by that point my partner had already long finished eating. I understand that chawanmushi takes longer to prepare since it's steamed, but a heads-up or better coordination with the rest of the dishes would have been nice. Like severing the appetizers at the same time and serving the mains at the same time. Instead of having the dishes come out one by one and such a long wait between the mains. The space itself is beautiful, with an upscale vibe, great for catching up I don't regret trying it, but it's probably not somewhere I'd return to.

Came here for both brunch and dinner. Dishes are Asian inspired and delicious. We had the chicken & waffle, and French toast for brunch. It was very filling and good mix of sweet and savoury options. For dinner, highly recommend sharing the dishes as most of them are quite heavy and you get a variety. Every dish was a hit with our party. Service was amazing for both our visits and the ambiance is very nice. Love the decor inside. Would be good if they can fix up their parking lot tho. Right now it's just dirt road and lots of pot holes.

This is between a 3 and a 4 to me. The concept of the food is great. But it comes out either too salty or sweet. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was a bit weak but that's largely because we were a table of 14. I would still expect a restaurant that is targeting high end clients to execute better on service. Water glasses were empty for over and hour. Food was dropped on the table before cutlery was provided over several courses... We ordered short rib, broccoli, rice, oysters, Tuna tartar, basque cheese cake, ice cream, lobster dumplings, waygu shuimai. Short rib was ok. A bit sweet and salty. Broccoli sauce was not good. Tuna tartar was ok. Waygu shuimai was not as good as basic traditional version. Cheese cake was good. Rest was nothing to rave about.

This was an high end restaurant that we were here for our anniversary. They had celebration policies that if average over $100/person, they will send you a cake with sparkling fireworks, and staff would sing the song. We had a fantastic night with great food and drink, but still not over $100/person, so we missed the cake. We got a drink called Toasted Sesame, which has sesame spirit, but I couldn't taste it; Golden Pear was more like sweet drink. Shrimp and Scallops Toast was appetizer that it actually tasted good with Thousands Island sauce. Our main dish was the Lobster Mapo Tofu, which was like Chinese Cruise mapo tofu. We enjoyed the night at Pears, and we would like to come back again.

This is my third visit to Pears and it never disappoints. The Peking duck is obviously delicious with elevated presentation that makes the experience feel extra special. I also order the mushrooms fried rice every time, it's a must try. Our server Maya was incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout the meal. Thanks again :) Pears is the perfect spot to celebrate any occasion with its fusion Chinese fine dining and warm service in the heart of downtown Markham, highly recommend

My friend and I had a wonderful time trying their prix fixe Pearlicious menu just in time! We decided to try two different items per course so we could try more things! The ambience is quite nice, def not kid friendly though in terms of the menu selection and the environment. I ordered one of their signature cocktails and that was a wonderful experience- the drink was as good as the presentation itself! Our server was very helpful in helping me pick my cocktail based on her recommendation! All the dishes were beautifully presented which I expect nothing less when it comes to @keith_pears ' creation. Appetizers: The foie gras chawanmushi was amazing - my friend who doesn't usually eat foie gras really enjoyed it! What a clever twist to pair with egg. The KFC sliders.... Were incredible . Every bite was delicious and the flavours were just perfectly balanced! The kick was just there not to overpower the slider and the chicken was perfectly fried. Entrees: bone marrow was amazing - I absolutely loved the flavours! The ginger garlic and shallots were perfect accompaniments to the marrow and I would have never thought to pair it with fried buns!! So interesting not to eat it with condensed milk for a change :) The shrimp angel hair pasta was also really good. The Szechuan was subtle but with each bite the numbness builds up. Amazing. Only thing is the portion is on the smaller side for a pasta dish and instead of whole shrimps it was more like 2 shrimps broken into pieces. But the flavours were great. Dessert: Pear tart - I see why this is a signature dessert. Incredible flavours . I absolutely loved the ice cream and how well it pairs with the pear tart. Basque cheesecake was nice and creamy and we opted to have more brown butter ice cream instead of truffle. It was just that good! All in all a wonderful experience and will def come back to try their regular menu!

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Parking still sucks, lol. As someone who isn't a huge fan of dim sum or the traditional dim sum tea, I was really happy to see that they now offer HK Style Milk Tea as well as various flavours of slushie and bubble tea offerings. As a milk tea lover, this alone would make me choose this place over another. :) The restaurant itself is quite spacious. When you enter, it's the front counter and a take out shelf (with LOTS of people ordering take out). There is a dining room to the left and to the right. I like that the tables are generously spaced apart, unlike some other dim sum places. Food wise, it's pretty decent, like any other dim sum place. I wouldn't say that it's anything special and no dish really stood out to me. We were a larger group so we ordered 2-3 rounds of stuff, and sometimes would just ask the server to add on a dish for us. I don't know if this was confusing for them or what because a lot of our dishes didn't end up coming. Of course, dishes that didn't come were not charged. The bill itself is a little confusing but they are happy to explain it to you. Instead of an itemized receipt, it is just multiple lump sums for tea charge, S/M/L items, special items, etc. Gratuities are already included.

Pretty average pricing and mediocre quality. The pigeon was $20 but not done well. Tea was $2.50 per head which imo is too high for a place like this. The restaurant itself has the typical tacky decor with a rainbow of colours and lighting found in Chinese banquet restaurants of this vintage. It was clean and comfortable enough. A bit run down but fine. Plenty of free parking out front. Overall, solid average with an exceptionally good lunch time bbq pork noodle deal for value.

It's really a huge mansion that is turned into a Chinese restaurant, so the spacing of the interior is leveled like a house. I came for dim sum at lunch time and was seated prompted after arriving. You order from a sheet and give your order in to the staff (no push cart dim sum here). Food came out pretty quickly and was good. We got the classics like chicken feet, siu mai, pork ribs, rice rolls, turnip cake, taro balls, sticky rice and milk tarts. The tea was pretty weak and lacked flavour, especially considering it's $2.50 per person, which is more expensive than many nearby dim sum restaurants. We ordered 3 dishes. One of the more unique dishes we tried was the deep-fried pumpkin and sweet potato. It seemed like an uncommon order because several staff members came over to look at it as it was served. The portion was huge for a dim sum dish, with thick slices of pumpkin and sweet potato. Unfortunately, the batter was also thick, which made the dish feel a bit heavy. The fried glutinous dumpling was really good. The wrapper wasn't overly thick, and the filling-to-dough ratio was well balanced. The beef balls were enjoyable, but nothing to particularly write about. Overall, the food was pretty good, and the restaurant was bright and clean, but the value wasn't there. With no weekend specials and the extra tea charge, our bill came to about $30 for just three dishes between the two of us. At most other dim sum spots, that same amount usually gets us a much larger meal. As it got closer to noon, the restaurant started filling up quickly, so it seems like they're more popular for their lunch menu than for dim sum. I probably wouldn't come back for dim sum since there are other places nearby with comparable food at much better prices, but I'd still be open to returning to try their lunch menu!
