Ambiance - great spot for family dinners, owner really maximized the space, they also offer private rooms for events, restaurant noise level can get really loud with servers cleaning the tables and preparing for next round of customers Service - seemed really unorganized, we didn't have a primary server, it was whoever was available walking around Food - Everything was super flavorful, the vermicelli crab pot (Maggie style) was my favorite, I recommend looking at the menu beforehand (some dishes require preorder)

Celebrated my dad's bday here back in Dec. We ordered up a bunch of our usual dishes (the beef tenderloin here is unmatched; maybe only Fishman Lobster Clubhouse has a better one). Got ourselves a VIP card. I think the loyalty program is relatively new. Also saw a sign near the front entrance that said "DIM SUM COMING SOON"!!?? =O. Can't wait for that. There's also another poster near the entrance detailing the various perks of being VIP. Still my fam's #1 go-to restaurant for great quality, reasonably priced, canto food.

Came here for dimsum with family. Ambience - 5/5: very spacious and bright as soon as you go in. Washroom is in the back. Service - 5/5: they asked us if we had a reservation and we said no. Despite this, they sat at a table almost immediately. They also got us our tea/water quickly. The food came put in waves. They checked on us multiple times to make sure we were doing ok and to clear off the dishes Food - 4/5: we ordered: steamed rice roll with pork, bean curd sheet roll, red rice preserved sausage turnip cake, steamed BBQ pork bun, vegetarian bean curd sheet roll, steamed beef ball, sticky rice with chicken in lotus leaf. All the steamed items were piping hot. For the rice roll, they gave us warmed soy sauce. The turnip cake was just lukewarm for a "fried" item. And the sticky rice with chicken in lotus leaf wasn't sticking together very well. It fell apart quite quickly. It still had good flavour though. Overall, 4/5 - I would come back.

Went here for a friend's birthday party. We got a private room for just one table which was super convenient! A huge plus for this. The set meals also come with a double boiled soup (not pictured) which was everyone's favourite. Food here is very delicious and had the perfect punch of flavour. Service was very prompt, our plates were frequently changed. Overall I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a great authentic chinese food, and especially if you need a private room.

Arrived on a cold winter night and was looking for a place for dinner. Stepped into Starchiva in Richmond Hill. The interior is spacious but certain tables arrangement could be better. There were a few tables next to the fish tank. Parking in front of the restaurant or nearby is fairly limited. Tried a variety of dishes and the quality is there. It's definitely better than a few places that serve the same cuisine. They accept all forms of payment. There is no cash discount but there is a $5 surcharge for using credit card. Which is an FYI for those inviting friends or family that don't carry cash. Overall, a nice place.

Awful service and prices have skyrocketed. Come here if you want to be yelled at while eating dinner. Beware of mandatory 12% tip and credit card fees.

Delicious food, beautiful interior and great for large groups. Came for a celebration and got their private room seating two large tables (about 20+ of us). Stepping into the restaurant I noticed that the space was beautiful and large and great for large parties. I will note that the server did try to upsell us on a combo that was more expensive and came with less food (but of course had more quality items). We kindly declined and went for the cheaper option that was so delicious and didn't come out short at all. You can bring your own wine but will have to pay a corkage fee, which is still cheaper than buying wine at the restaurants. We got a combo which came with delicious food items like: Lobster in HK style 5/5 - This came with some tortilla chips which was odd, but the flavour of the lobster was great! Lots of fried mini crispy fish that came with it as well. Hand shredded chicken 5/5 - Delicious and shredded by hand making it easier to eat since the portions are already small enough to share. Snow pea leaf in broth 5/5 - A simple yet delicious dish of vegetable. The fried whole garlic is a great addition to your bite as it's packed with umami Sweet and sour pork 5/5 - Love love love! So good and opens up the palette since it's both sweet and sour. Goes great with rice Stir fried beef cubes 5/5 - Nice and saucey, cooked to perfection. Would get this again! Overall, it's your typical Chinese restaurant serving food in family style. Definitely super tasty and good for sharing. Would highly recommend and come back again in the future!

After two long years, I finally had the opportunity to finally try Starchiva! Known for their take on the classics in Cantonese cuisine, Starchiva will not let you down in quality and service. Their Signature Marinated Duck is well known and for good reason! The marinating juices are a great compliment to rice and the duck is still moist and succulent. The Soya Sauce Free Range Chicken is a good chicken dish to share and the side sweetened soy sauce is nice to enjoy with the chicken. Overall, it was definitely a nice dining experience to enjoy with family and friends!

Our usual go-to dinner spot when we're in town! This time, we splurged on a king crab and it's worth it. As a king crab lover, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to cook it properly to get the full flavor and taste! The chefs here are always spot on, so we knew the crab would be good. Our first course was ginger & scallion steamed over vermicelli noodles, second course was Hong Kong style (my favorite), third course was crab butter steamed silkey eggs. The whole dinner was a part of their preset menu, which includes the 6lb king crab (ours was 7lbs, so we had to pay $80 extra), sweet & sour pork, dried scallop egg white fried rice, snow pea tip leaves, and dessert. The whole bill ended up being around $760 before tip.

Very spacious restaurant with plenty of seating. I went with a large group and had our own private room which was very nice. The staff were all very attentive and provided great service from beginning to end. Our large group ordered a course meal ($588 total) and each dish was great. The group consensus is that the beef tenderloin with honey pepper and potato was the best dish. Parking was hard to find in this area, there will be probably be a handful of spots near the back of the building.

Food are fresh, big portions, service are pretty good too, recommend for family and friends reunions

There were Christmas special sets for dinner, so we came to get takeout. The meal for four people included Maggi-style 3 lb lobster and whitebait, crab meat and fish maw soup, stir-fried beef tenderloin with mixed mushrooms, half a double-boiled free-range chicken, braised baby bok choy with garlic in broth, and a Christmas yule log for $178. This also included white rice. These Christmas special sets also had ones for 6, 8, or 10 people. It's a good thing we arrived earlier than our pickup time, as the food was ready and waiting when we got there. I realize this was a meal for four people, but if it's only meant for four people, they must be very big eaters. We had six people, and we barely finished all the food. It didn't register for us until we finished the soup that the little container with this red liquid in it was vinegar for the soup :P. The beef tenderloin was very tender, and all the dishes were tasty, but we found that the lobster was too salty. The Christmas yule log that came with the dinner was beautiful and so delightful. I wonder if the restaurant made it or had a bakery make it for them.

This restaurant is located where the popular dragon boat dim sum restaurant used to be. Complimentary parking is limited as the plaza/ building strip isn't big. Note that there is a 1.5 seating limit and they charge and extra 5$ for credit card payment on their dinner sets. We ordered their 155$ dinner set, which came with a beef, pork, chicken, veggie and crab dish. It did not come with any rice, so we ordered a few extra (2.5$/ bowl). The first few dishes came out so fast, it almost felt like they were pre-made. Service was mediocre, but decent for a Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here, there are many other options in GTA.

But despite of all those disadvantages, I still give it 5 stars because it has the PERFECT food! I almost dropped some tears when I tasted my first bite of the dish I ordered, stored fried beef with tomatoes and eggs. I think what it does best is that it adapt its dishes to use the local produce and meat, and still keep the legit HongKong food flavors. The menu here is reasonably priced for the HK cafe food that's available till 5pm. We were impressed by the huge portions & surprisingly good flavours. Curry Beef Brisket Rice was stewed well to achieve really tender tendons. These are still two of our go-to dishes here. There will be a dessert after the meal, a bowl of tofu flower for each person. That dessert is a true hidden gem. Silky smooth and moderate sweetness and perfect warmth.
