Quick service Chinese restaurant with great food. Make sure to make a reservation in advance as the restaurant is super busy and packed. The service is quick and attentive. Food is nothing fancy but it's the type of food that has lots of, in Chinese, "wok hay" (hot air) flavour and dishes come together quickly. It's a family style dinner with a healthy amount of food per dish. We started with a soup for the table which was sweet and delicious. You can also fish out the meat from the soup to eat as a dish as well. 5/5 String beans with pork 5/5 - Nice and crunchy with a meaty sauce. Garlic and onion fried oysters 5/5 - Many pieces of oysters came in this dish. Flavour was so good and lots of onions! Garlic fried ribs 5/5 - I'd say this is a must get! Ribs are cooked/ fried to perfect, but not fall off the bone which is fine. The outside layer is so crispy and the fried garlic chips are even better! Black bean clams 5/5 - Saucey and meaty clams. Great for sharing Sweet and sour pork 5/5 - A staple that you can't go wrong with. A must order Overall, love it everytime I come here. Food is always consistent and delicious. Can't go wrong here!

Great Cantonese restaurant. Very authentic. They also have English menu. The pork was delicious. It melted in my mouth. Must try. All portions were huge, so you definitely get your moneys worth. Note that there are no small portions, so come with friends! The restaurant was literally packed, make sure and call in advance or prepare to wait.

Great authentic Cantonese seafood restaurant! Large tables are separated into rooms. Great food. Very busy all the time. Reservations recommended.

Mixed vegetables with pork

First to start: make reservations! They don't open until 4pm but start taking reservations over the phone at 1pm (2pm on Fridays). We were able to make a reservation for Saturday evening on the same day. We got there 15 min early and a table happened to just clear out so we were able to sit earlier. The restaurant was packed! The food was great and it came Cantonese-speed style LOL. We ordered: - eel with black bean sauce - the eel was good size (not baby eel with no meat), the meat was dense and sauce flavorful. It looked very "salty" bc of its darker color but it really wasn't (especially if you had it with rice) - razor clams with black bean sauce - such a generous portion! Double/triple the portion of what we usually get at other restaurants for a very reasonable price - the sauce is the same as the one for the eel but so fitting for this dish - stir fried mixed vegetables with pork slices: didn't sound like a very interesting dish BUT the vegetables were crisp and made al dente - lots of "wok hay" 2 of us and managed to polish all of it. Next time we will try to go as a group so we get to try more dishes! For non-Asian folks: if you want rice to go with your meal you have to order it because it doesn't come automatic. They also gave us tofu dessert which was a nice touch. We have never had another Asian restaurant offer this as complimentary (usually we get green bean or red bean or tapioca dessert which is standard)

A typical Cantonese restaurant that has the décor that is, I would consider, similar to Fishman style without the large fish tanks surrounding the rooms. The service was good but the food was only decent, not sure if its worth the trouble getting and waiting for seats at this restaurant. Sweet and sour pork - A standard in Cantonese restaurants; good taste, sweet and sour. Had pineapples, slightly crispy exterior and a meaty interior. Just wishing for a bit more fatty pieces mixed in with the meat of the pork to give it a slightly different texture. Also there was a lot of onions, wish there were a bit more variety in the non-protein components (maybe some fruits?) Stuffed braised tofu - Something different from what I'm used to. The tofu and the fish cake inside was tasty! Sauce was great on both the tofu and the vegetables. Running ground chicken - The running ground chicken is another common dish among Cantonese restaurants. Hence expectations are high with this dish and there was good and bad. Ultimately, it did not stand out, chicken was decent ginger scallion sauce was above average. Snow pea leaves - These were great, the snow pea leaves were expertly picked and didn't have any that were chewy. The garlic was pre-fried giving it a nice caramelized taste before hitting the gooey garlic center. Salt n pepper Calamari - Nothing wrong with some garlic fried salt and spicy calamari. This was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and even came with a couple pieces of romaine lettuce (what a luxury). I only wished that they mixed the flavouring more evenly as some pieces had more flavour than others. Crab meat fried rice - Some what of a disappointment, the contents of the fried rice was good. The scallops, shrimp, egg whites all good, but it was missing the key flavour in fried dishes, the wok flavour. I understand that this is not their speciality, but I was left wishing for a bit more from the wok. Dry fried rice noodles - Similar to the fried rice dish, but the ingredients on this one is much simplier, and so it relies more on the wok flavour. And it still wasn't there, would not get fried dishes here. Ultimately, not my Top Choice for a Chinese restaurant. The ingredients used in this place was top notch (the seafood in the fried rice, choosing good parts of the vegetable) but the execution did not do them justice. That, plus how busy it gets (waited 30 min with reservations) will turn me away from coming back.

LOL the rating of "Top Choice Restaurant" is way lower than it deserves. Maybe I did miss out some important aspects, but as a Cantonese style restaurant they nailed it. I have been there for twice so far, every time it is all very filled with people. Their ambience is not quiet, the environment is old but generally tidy. One serving lady will approach you with cold-yet-caring face (come on, smiling is not the only symbol of being kind) and they get us ready for things very quickly. Cuisine wise, I always use Poached Chicken as my "benchmark dish" and they def nailed it. The prices on the menu are generally higher (but not sky-high), especially for those fancy seafoods. I had not yet order any of them yet but maybe next time!

Let me start by saying "if U dont make a reservation, forget eating here" Chinese menu is better than American-Chinese menu. There are 2 menu, in English and the other in Chinese. anyways, we end up ordering a 2lb steam fish, very tasty, not sure what kind it was but was very tasty. My sister-in-law wanted roasted squab, sounds fancier, not that tasty, difficult to eat. Since they chopped the squab in to large pieces. You will need tools to separate otherwise messy to eat- rather go for chicken but I was out voted. Birds nest was tasty-deep fry bowl, made out of noodles. Topped with seafood and lots of veggies-asparagus and celery- tasty, love the shrimp and scallop. Good enough for 2. The sweet and sour porkchop, was very meaty and tasty, could have used more sauce. My brother in law order fried rice in a red sauce, not sure what it was called but to me fry rice should be dry-so i didnt even taste it and the one item I avoided was the fry intestines with pineapple, not my thing. Food was tasty, dinner was about $185+tip. Waitress forgot our beers but we didn't say anything, i think it got lost in translation, nice lady. We finished with a bowl of warm sweet mung bean soup- looks like green lentils except is slightly sweet- very tasty! Overall a good experience, need to come here with someone that can read and explain the menu-google translation sometimes is not very helpful.

Good service and great food! I love their Sweet and Sour Pork and Razor Clam. Be warned that this place packs up really fast and you will be hard pressed to have a leisurely, slow dinner. They are efficient and fast. Thought they will not be rude and kick you out-you will feel the pressure since there will be lots of people waiting at the door (and out the door) in prime time. Best suggestion is to reserve a table ahead of time but expect to still wait when you arrive. It will be worth it!

Newly renovated, divided tables for privacy & health safety, and food is even better! I haven't been here since COVID... after visiting last weekend for dinner with my family, I was impressed with the changes inside the restaurant. Service is good, and I feel their dishes have gotten even better!

Been a while since I have been here. This is my first visit to this place after COVID. I'm sad to say the quality of the food has gone down compared to pre COVID. The sweet and sour pork doesn't taste good. Overly sweet. The stir fry clams felt like the cook dumped 5 tablespoons or more of salt. The crispy fried chicken is dry and not juicy and succulent. I hate to say this but you can get better food at Congee Queen compared to here for the same dishes. Not sure if I would return unless the quality changes back to pre COVID days.

This restaurant has been recently renovated, so there are acrylic enclosures all over. Pretty nicely done. The food and service were great. I particularly liked their free range chicken and fried rice. Baked oysters in black bean sauce are also bomb. Came with a free tofu dessert at the end. A bit on pricey side.

Came for dinner on a Tuesday evening and there were a lot of people waiting outside & inside the restaurant. We booked a table for 6 for 7:30pm but when we got here, we still had to wait until 6:45pm. When we got seated to our table, we were given a large bowl of boiled water to briefly rinse our utensils. We ordered 5 dishes for the 6 of us and it was more than enough. Food comes out really quick & fresh. The food is pretty good compared to other similar restaurants - not to mention their super generous portions. The tables are a bit smaller so it can get really crowded on the table with all the food dishes ordered. We were also given complimentary tofu pudding at the end of the meal and it wasn't too sweet. I've visited once a few years ago before the pandemic and I've noticed some changes - they've added some glass barriers to separate each table. Service is mid and parking is pretty convenient as there's a huge parking lot in the plaza. The washroom is pretty small & tight - there are only 2 stalls and 1 sink (can only speak for the ladies). Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. Delicious! I'm a fan. I'll take a closer look at the lids on my food next time. I'm glad that I put food in my insulated bag. It saved cleaning my car's upholstery! (59)

So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

If you break it down, it's actually such a good deal: the snakehead upgrade is usually +$3 each and their handcrafted drinks run around $6. No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit. But I am not sure if I'd come back again.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Meaty pork strips coated with thin batter, each piece is wrapped in a glossy sauce and sprinkled with white sesame. Perfect dish to go with rice. Double Cooked Pork Slices: Classic Sichuan-style dish. The pork belly is first boiled, then stir-fried again with chili bean paste and green bell pepper. Very flavorful and savoury, another great dish to go with rice. Soy Sauce Fried Rice: One of my fav childhood dishes, and they delivered very well. It's such a huge portion that we could only finish it in two days. Service was great, considerate and friendly. They even pour water for you before you sit down and pack up the leftovers for you after you finish. You might have to wait if you don't have a reservation, but the turnaround is pretty fast. Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.
