We tried a sampling of different dishes, including their fried turnip cakes, spice and pepper salted squid, fried shrimp wonton, sirloin, black pepper sauce, broccoli, and a noodle dish. I've never had fried turnip cakes before and they were so good, that is a must try. Overall, service was quick and loved how open the restaurant was. This is a staple in our home. Always consistent and tons of options for everyone. I think of this as a gateway into HK style foods as they have the BBQ stand, and all the typical options you find at a HK Cafe. I almost always get the same things here which are the Beef Fried Ho Fun, Shanghai Fried Noodle or Black Bean Sauce Beef Ho Fun. Prices have definitely crept up over the years but it remains a great spot of both sit in and takeout. Quality is solid overall and portions are large so you do get what you pay for. I had lunch here with family and for the most part it was a good experience. There were a lot of us, so my aunt booked a room. My understanding is that there is a minimum of $500CAD per table, and there were two tables for 20 of us.... Considering their portions, that would be a lot of food. I think we only reached maybe $400CAD total. So if you want to book a room, make sure to ask with the requirements are. Otherwise, the food was pretty good. My aunt pre-ordered the food, so I can't name all the dishes we got. But I'll review what I ate. I enjoyed the egg drop and corn soup. It had good umami and corn flavor. I also enjoyed the fried fish, which came with really delicious broccoli. I think it was blanched and quickly sautéed with the fish because it maintained a good crunch. I also enjoyed the orange chicken and sweet and sour pork. Both had good flavors, and the meat was tender. The wait staff were patient with us because we hadn't all arrived yet. This was a post-wedding event and we were an hour away. With other things my family had to do, we all trickled in when we could. When this place opened a while ago the food was good and they cared. Now it's really expensive mediocre food. Service was never the best here but if the food was better no one would really care about the service. It's a household family name. Kind of like a white t-shirt with a Nike logo slapped on it. I am not sure if this was delicious because we had traveled so far and so long or just because it was simply delicious. Either way, we were all happy with the meal. We were here around 10 pm but were happy to get served rather quickly. The congee texture was smooth and simple. We also got crispy egg noodles, wide rice noodles with black beans and beef, fried squid, snow pea leaves. The amount of food fed four adults and three elementary aged children. My daughters and I were looking for a place for dinner and came upon Congee Queen. You can't go wrong with this chain. I find the food is consistently good from all locations. The ambiance was clean and the restaurant was huge at this location. Lots of seatings. It got super busy after 6pm. For this location you have to scan a QR code to order online and then the food comes to you. If you pay with cash you get a 5% discount off your bill. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, Cantonese Chow Mein and the donut fritters wrapped in rice rolls. So good!! Service was great, the servers were helpful and polite. Very busy and popular restaurant. My favorite from what we ordered was their flavorful seafood congee, but I wish it had more seafood in it. Was a bit disappointed in the eel/crab fried rice as I couldn't see the crab and barely tasted the eel and was mostly rice. The sweet and sour pork was a bit hard for kids to eat. I liked the tofu since it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The beef rice noodle roll was cooked well and soft. Shrimp was also good but the mango was a bit too raw. A decent place to try for Cantonese cuisine. Their menu is extensive, almost too many options in my opinion. Portions are HUGE. Best to come with at least 3+ people so you can try a variety, otherwise you'll have a ton of left overs. Fish head with ginger and onion in hot pot - this was disappointing. It doesn't say what type of fish and it ended up being salmon. We thought the sauce it was cooked with didn't go with the salmon. You could taste the fishy-ness. Fried tiger shrimp & chicken with mango - basically sweet and sour chicken with shrimp and mango instead of pineapple. It's marked as spicy but there was no spice at all and I'm someone who can't handle much spice. This was decent. Definitely flavorful. Snow pea leaves with garlic sauce - pretty average. Gotta have a side of veggies. Yeung chow fried rice with shrimp and bbq pork - simple and pairs well as a base for the main dishes. This review is based solely on the dishes we got. Lovely dinner experience overall! Came just before 6pm and it was already pretty busy, but we got a table within 5min. We were seated and ordered via a QR code. All the food came out very quickly and was piping hot. We finished only the duck and seafood... Everything else, we ate half of it and had to take the rest home. We noticed that the portions are much bigger when dining in unlike take out... Almost double. The half that we did it and half we took home, was like ordering the take out. I loved their clay pot rice, as well as the combination fried rice. The XO sauce rice rolls were delicious as well, and I loved the peanut butter dipping sauce. The good thing is that the restaurant is still up and operating even past a quarter till 11:00, but almost everything has seafood and has a case of shellfish. Common issue includes rice being steamed without sufficient water to soften, leaving the rice on the hard side. Congee Queen has long been one of my fav restaurants. So it's long overdue for another review! It seems like only yesterday when they opened their first location at Steeles/404. Fast forward a dozen years and the Queen has now established many footprints in GTA suburbs. This review is for the Hwy 7/404 location, yet what keeps us coming back is the fact that the food is generally consistent at all of them. The winning formula for me is usually their Supreme Super Bowl, Salt & Pepper Squid, and Grouper & Fried Bean Curd in Hot Pot. Then mix in a few other hits like their Chinese BBQ or Sweet & Sour Pork for variety. I have family that comes for the BBQ alone. The menu is also extensive for those feeling adventurous. Not everyone comes here for congee, but I do! The congee is silky smooth & the Super Bowl comes loaded with ingredients such as prawn, arctic clam and fish fillet. Dash soy & pepper to taste, and voilà - comfort food. Salt & Pepper Squid is big on flavour with a light batter for crunch. The braised fish with fried tofu claypot comes sizzling and absorbs all of the thick oyster sauce. This would be perfect with rice, perhaps some Empress Eel Fried Rice. I'm almost drooling just thinking it. Congee Queen offers a unique combination of delicious & wide ranging dishes, with generous portions at affordable prices. I have had this spot bookmarked for a while and we finally got a chance to try it this past trip. I love a good bowl of congee. This place was popping when we went, everyone inside seems to have ordered way more than they can eat, almost each party walked out with to-go boxes. We ordered two congees with some veggies and fried fish. The bowls of congee were HUGE. I mean I expected a decent size bowl but didn't expect it that huge. I liked the salted egg plus preserved egg one more. It was a little saltier than the seafood queen one but when you combine the both of them it was perfect. Fried fish was tasty and the veggie were perfect for balance. Staff speaks mandarin and Cantonese and were friendly. We ordered on our phone and it was quick and easy. Came here on the weekend and was a bit disappointed. Congee queen has always been the standard for easy Chinese cooking and casual dining. I found that this location was a below average for me and the Congee queen standard to be honest. There has never been a problem with quality or taste with Congee Queen. I am a frequent go-er to the Don Mills and Markham location. In fact, I order the same dishes at every location without fail. I ordered a seafood congee and found that it was lacking taste or some kind of salt or flavour. We ordered the lo mein. The meat portion of the lo mein was not spicy as indicated on the ordering website, it was rather too sweet for my taste. Next we ordered an eel fried rice. The rice was acceptable but the sauce and eggplant flakes added tasted very artificial and it did not overall create any cohesiveness that the other restaurants were able to produce. Overall, I would skip this location and drive a bit more east or even a bit more south. Congee Queen is supposed to taste better than this...and I will regrettably not be returning. read more

Currently indoor dining is open for York region with covid precautions in place. Names and contact numbers are taken for everyone in your dining party, masks are to be worn when not eating and a limited number of tables are open for dining and they are well spaced out. Ordering is only from the takeout menu at the moment. We saw many customers coming in for their takeout orders. The bbq pork was on the leaner side today so a bit dry but the roast pork was just right. The skin was crispy as it should be and a tad salty, which I like. I do wish that we had been given more of the bbq pork sauce to mix with the rice. The other item we ordered was beef brisket and tendons with noodles and no complaints there. read more
