This is one of the 3 go to spots for its family. Great flavors at a good value. And there is a 10% discount for take out. I think we've been going there for over 10yrs. They have lots of good dishes. See my other reviews. There is one dish I miss. There's used to have this lemon chicken that was stringy deep fried chicken with lemon sauce on it. But they change their recipe years ago it is like everyone else's now... no longer special. Large long spears of chicken white meat with a lemon sauce. Boring. So we don't order it anymore. This is a small HK style cafe offering variety of dishes. We came in Wednesday night around 7:30, it was still busy and almost full. The staff was very friendly and managed seated us immediately. We ordered a combo A for two, $31.99, including two main dishes, slice fish with vegetables, and sliced beef with mushrooms &green onion. Soup comes with the combo for free, and free dessert red bean soup after the meal . All dishes are at very high quality with good portion. We were pleased to find that since we'd last been there, the restaurant had been updated. Sitting by the door was a bit chilly, with customers constantly coming and going for takeout orders as well as dining in. Reservations may be necessary, as this is a small restaurant that filled up quite quickly when we were there. We ordered a combo for two. This included soup, half a crispy chicken, sliced fish with vegetables, rice, and dessert for $32. This was too much food for us, and we ended up taking some of it home. Bayview kitchen is a small, but popular restaurant located by Bayview and Major Mackenzie. We came on Sunday around 2pm, and was surprised to see how full the restaurant was. Luckily for us, there was an open spot when we arrived, but it was a little chilly as we had to sit right by the entrance. During our dine in experience, there were many customers coming in to order take out - which means this spot is pretty popular! They have a breakfast, and lunch special which was pretty reasonable with the amount of items included, plus portion of the dishes. We opted for their lunch special which included a drink such as HK Milk Tea, and soup (only available till 2:30pm). I got the satay beef with vermicelli, and overall it was pretty tasty - there was a good amount of satay sauce included which gave it a lot of flavour. The milk tea was also surprisingly pretty good in comparison to many HK cafes I've visited. If you'd like to add sugar to it, there are packets on the side by your table. As I'm moving around the area soon, it's pleasant to know that there's a pretty good HK cafe in the area. This cash-only place has Hong Kong themed breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea sets and a Cantonese themed a la carte menu that's more adventurous than usual. In 2019, I had fried rice noodles with pork & XO sauce which were pretty tasty, with a good wok flavour. Though it was a bit light on pork slices. More recently, I got the Malaysian Fried Noodles. They were not Malaysian Fried Noodles (Char Kway Teow, as per the Chinese characters). They had bean sprouts, BBQ Pork, green onion, shrimp, egg & onion. There was no smoky wok flavour & while there was a slight curry smell & it was slightly spicy there was no taste of curry. In fact, it was bland. On the up side, with the Malaysian Fried Noodles I got not one but two free soups. One was a pork with carrot soup, with a decent taste of boiled goodness. The other was actually a dessert: red bean soup with sago. Both were good. Some people speak mountains about Bayview Kitchen - I've been a few times and just ordered the milk tea which is sweet and refreshing on a hot summer's day. I've only tried the food once and ordered a fish plate - white fish and steamed vegetables and rice - and I believe the corn soup it came with was complimentary. The meals are prepared very fast, and the taste is alright - there's not many vegetarian or pescatarian options here for me so I don't go very often. The appearance inside is small and quite cramped, you likely will have to share a table with others. My friends say this place is very traditional, but I cannot try the traditional dishes so I can't comment on that. Service is prompt and friendly. Prices are relatively inexpensive. This is the best local Cantonese place, hands down. The owners and staff are so incredibly friendly and nice, and the food is outstanding. I come back home to visit my sister a few times a year, and always hit this place up. I'm from Hong Kong and know good Cantonese food--and this is it. When I leave I crave it. Their black bean chicken is amazing, as are any of their crispy fried egg noodle dishes. The ma po tofu is so good, it leaves my lips buzzing with the mala pepper. Went to Bayview Kitchen for a quick dinner. I've always been curious about this place because it's always packed when I pass by it on my way to eat at Restoran Malaysia. They must be doing something right. I ordered a club sandwich, a double decker sandwich with lettuce, tomato, ham, egg, and chicken salad. Although you can't really go wrong with a club sandwich, this one pales compared to other ones that I've eaten at other hk-style cafes. The flavours were rather bland. My boyfriend ordered a satay beef fried noodle. We couldn't taste any satay at all. The whole dish just looked like it was slapped together without much care. I know I shouldn't complain for such cheap prices, but I've had much better food with the same price point at other Chinese cafes. So my questino is, why is this place so popular? Been here so many times but I can't even pretend to like it anymore. Each time I get something, I am let down. I usually get the lunch specials because for the price, what you get is definitely cheaper than other restaurants in the area. You get a large portion of food, a soup, and drink. Ive tried several items such as the satay beef on rice and today I decided to try something new (had no idea what it was): mayalsian style rice noodles with pork and shrimp. The rice dish: tons of rice, small portion of meal and other. It's very plain. Meat and some onions in sauce. The noodles: very plain as well and extremely oily. Way too oily, I found it hard to eat and I didn't finish it. After getting this dish, I found out Malaysian style noodles are like a dry curry noodle. I like sauce so I was quite disappointed with trying something unknown. This place is extremely popular. It's known to everyone in Richmond Hill, I'd like to think (I'm a native here). I can't even say that this food is okay. The menu is pretty extensive so each time I come I can try something new in hopes that it can redeem this place, but so far nothing is great. I was just passing by the area and came across Bayview Kitchen. They seem to be the go to place for basic meals. Their set dinners are organized by number of people you are trying to feed. And each party size has a few options. It is a very clever and efficient way of making dinner choices easy. Prices are very reasonable. My go to restaurant! I've been coming here for 10-15 years now and they honestly never disappoint. Service is great, and they are quick and accommodating. No matter how busy they are, the waitresses are always smiling and polite, which I feel like is really rare for HK cafes! Food wise, flavours are great and homey. Their Baked Minced Beef with Egg on Rice is super hearty and to die for. I have yet to find anywhere that compares! I also really like their Ma Po Tofu rice. Such a good combination of flavour and spice and so saucy. For dishes, I'd recommend trying the Taro and Chicken in Coconut Cream and the Sweet and Sour Pork! Although they have gone up a little in price in the recent years, the meal is always filling. Still average priced compared to other places in the area though. Lunch comes with a drink and soup, and dinner comes with soup and dessert. Breakfast and afternoon tea comes with the drink only. The only two downsides about this place is that their milk tea is slightly lacking, and that the place is small. Bayview Kitchen has been around forever, they have a loyal base and for good reason. The food is simple, delicious, and well-priced. Lunch specials range from $8.50-$10.50, they're well-portioned and include a drink and a soup. Their milk tea is decent, but I felt their mocha milk tea (milk tea with coffee) could be a tad stronger. Their operations are mostly safe and efficient, everyone was wearing masks but they only accept cash. However they were using tongs to handle all the cash so they're trying to very hard to be safe. They don't do dine in right now, just take out but they have a lot on the menu. We had the curry beef with spaghetti, dry stir fried ho fun with beef, satay chicken with ho fun, tofu and fish on rice and the Yeung chow fried rice. Walking in, you notice right away this place is small. There's 3 round tables, 3 tables for 4 and a single table at the front for 2. When we came in, there were 2 tables being seated. Within 10 minutes though, the place was full and people had to wait. I would not recommend coming during peak times as you most certainly have to wait. If you're someone who doesn't like to share tables with other people, it's even worse. Still, turnover time for a place like this is usually quick so that helps. For lunch, Bayview Kitchen offers a lot of lunch specials ranging from $5 to about $12-13. Each special comes with a drink and soup. We weren't given any other menu so I assume that if you want something other than the lunch specials, you might be out of luck. I ordered the fried udon noodle with beef and my GF had the Chicken with eggplant on rice. As with most HK style cafes, food comes out relatively quickly after you order. I don't have anything to really say about the food, it tastes as it should. I just want to make note that the portions are smaller than I'm used to. Looking at my pics, the plate my udon came in was rather small. I glanced over at another table who ordered the baked rice and the dish they serve it in is smaller as well. If you order the rice specials as my GF did, you get a much bigger plate used. That's your best bet for bang for the buck here. All in all, Bayview Kitchen is a decent place to get your HK style cafe fix. I could see myself coming back if I'm in the area but it's not something I would go out of my way to come to. read more

I ordered a lunch special fried rice ($7). It was rather salty, oily, and delicious, assuming you like sodium. My dining partner ordered a baked rice with pork chops ($6). The rice was a bit dry, so thank god for the tomato sauce that was artificially reddish in color. Tried this restaurant with my parents. We ordered half a deep fried chicken, seafood fried rice and stir fried rice noodles with beef. The deep fried chicken was pretty good - kind of like peling duck, but chicken, it was served with pringles which was kind of odd. The fried rice was bland and a bit wet compared to normal white rice. The stir fried noodles were really good, drenched in sauce with beef and a few stems of chinese broccoli. You also get free chicken and corn broth as well as sweet porridge-y dessert. It's a very small restaurant - as in theres 6 to 8 tables.
