The name has changed, it called "Hong Kong Beef Noodles". Inside, very old and typical Cha Chaan Teng cafe. Two servers only and it was quite busy. The service was mediocre. They don't have a proper menu for guests in the restaurant. Instead you get a take out menu. Curry chicken on rice (3/5), 4 pcs of chicken with bones, lots of potatoes. Sauce was descent. House chicken on rice (3/5), descent size chicken and green onions and oil. Food: 3 Service: 2
Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Vibe 4/5 Even though i rated this place 4/5 for most items, im still giving it 5/5. Not that the food is bad, but for its price and value per dish, i dont think u can find anything cheaper than this in a Hong Kong Cafe style restaurant. Almost all order comes with a drink, and the best part is, cold drinks are free! Usually they change you $1-1.5 for cold drinks, but not this place. Food is decent, regular hong kong style cafe. NOTHING LIKE WOW, but like its good enough for me to want to come back Service, normal asian style. If your expecting high quality service, look away. Its more like the regular cha chan ting 茶餐厅 fast simple easy and straight to the point kinda vibe. I actually prefer that, so i dont mind it at all. Overall, 4/5, but will i come back, 100%!
Price - dirt cheap. Venue - run down. Food - boldly flavored but boring. Value - high. Red Tea House has one thing going for them - dirt cheap prices. And if you come during afternoon tea time, you will find the portion/price ratio more than satisfactory. But food we ordered tasted nothing special. Just salt, oil and msg. It was boring. If you have any requirement on food quality or flavor profile, this place is not for you. But if you want an affordable take out dinner to feed your family, it might just do the job. P.S. I do sincerely appreciate the business in this recessionary and inflationary time. So I round the rating up to 3 stars.
I've been coming here ever since I can remember. This place has been around for like 30 years. Prices have gone up over the years, but the food is still definitely on the cheap side, for simple HK cafe food. This visit, got the breakfast sausages, egg with instant noodles, and iced milk tea. Everything is as you would expect, though these are some of my favourite breakfast sausages. The milk teas here usually have decent tea flavour.
Good value, tons of varieties! I tried the eggplant, deep fried fish and chicken with green onion, one of the best and authentic HK/Chinese food in the town!
Overall 3.5 star : Very standard small Hong Kong style restaurant. 2.5 Star decor.... Restaurant dining area looks outdated. Makes is feel all the more HK small ops restaurant. 3.5 Star food.... Keeping in mind this is a HK side street style restaurant, and you order accordingly.... Then food is not bad. If you try to order the wannabe fancy food, then there is no guarantee 3 Star service.... So you get service in HK? LoL 5 star value... You don't find many dine in restaurant at this price, and the portion is still pretty sizable. BTW .... They don't add money for changing to cold drink. Not my favorite place to be, but will come back if I to do a quick eat and run.
Their Beef Brisket Noodle Soup is really good. Not too salty or heavy on msg. I always come here to eat. $7.49 for a small bowl plus you get a hk style tea. Small size is good for snack. If your hungry go with the large for a filling meal. I highly recommend it.
my favourite spot for quick, simple, & authentic HK food price is amazing with huge portions; great food for great value! the menu is super extensive so there's definitely an option for everyone. most meals come with soup + drink (milk tea/lemon tea, lemon coke, etc) & the best part is they don't charge extra for drinks to be iced. i've tried many of their dishes, both dine-in & take out - my favourites are the baked dishes, sandwiches, & soup macaroni there is parking around the building so it's pretty convenient. they accept cash/ET & there is complimentary wifi. this spot is certainly a scarborough gem!
Value for money authentic Cantonese food. Most of the Cantonese or Chinese food usually cook with too much oil and msg but that would not happen in this restaurant.
The price speaks for itself. If you want a cheap and filling meal without much expectation on the quality. This is the place to go. Best part is other cafe they charge from $1-$1.50 for cold drink and this place don't.
It has been at the same location for over 20 years and this is my first time to try. Typical HK style cafe without any decoration. Don't expect any fancy and nice service. Everything is very basic. The price is cheap though and many selections. It is for a single to eat and go.

The floors here don't have a 5 second rule, if it touches the floor, forget about it. Having said that, this place ticks off everything else you need in an HK style cafe. They have tons of variety in their menu. Speaking of that. their entire menu is on the walls of this place. Most of the items have English on them though there are some specials that don't. Based on previous pictures, they do have a paper menu with English on it. I was not able to see it while I was there. We had a mixed grill rice and a baked chicken on spaghetti with an order of congee. Food comes out pretty fast here. What I really like about this place is the portions. They are super for the price you pay here. You will leave this place full, big eater or not. The taste is pretty standard for what you will find at HK style cafes. As with most HK style cafes, meals come with soup and a drink. What stands out is that you can get a cold drink here with no extra charge. There are very very few places that do that now. Red Tea House will get the job done if you're craving some HK fast food. It's no frills appearance might turn off some, but if you can get past that you can't go wrong coming here.
Milk tea not strong enough. Congee was bad as the ingredients were very stale. Toast was stale too. Good portions for the low price. Cutter e very thin. Cleanliness: you determine for yourself.
Tips: - This eatery is on Fantuan. The deals are decent. - The beef brisket had a lot of tough parts. - The Shanghai-style noodles were fabulous. My rating is 3.5 stars. I'll round up. A few weeks ago, I was looking at my Fantuan app. There was a flash deal on a number of dishes. One of them was the curry beef or beef brisket. It was on rice and came with your choice of beverage. I went with these items: - Curry beef brisket on steamed rice, with an iced lemon tea - Shanghai-style noodles I paid with a credit card. I got an estimated time to pick up my order. This eatery is in a plaza roughly fifteen minutes from my home. My issue was the signage when I got to this restaurant. On Fantuan, this business is listed as Red Tea House. If you can't read traditional Chinese, you'd think that the place is called Hong Kong Beef Noodles, as it's the only English sign that you see. If you can read Chinese, the three characters literally translate to Red Tea Street. Maybe it's me. A house and a street are two different objects. I don't get the translation. At least the sign is red, to match the first character. There was lots of parking in this plaza. I backed into a spot and walked in. It's a Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng. I have only visited Hong Kong once and loved the food. There were several folks eating when I walked in. I waited at the back by the payment area for someone. I looked at the blue Fantuan bag in front of me. It looked like my order. I got a woman who first started to speak to me in Mandarin. I don't speak it. I spoke to her in English. She switched to Cantonese. I did, too. She asked me what I had ordered. Both items were listed in English on Fantuan. Instead, we went with my order number in Cantonese. The blue bag was indeed my order. I thanked her in Cantonese and left. I drove home to enjoy my food. It was dinner. I had half of each dish. I then had the rest the following day. The curry sauce in the curry beef brisket was excellent. It was great mixing it with rice. I also enjoyed the cubed potatoes and bell peppers. I enjoyed the actual beef brisket. The downside was that the brisket had a lot of tough parts attached to it.. It wasn't worth getting this dish. I loved my iced lemon tea. It was cold and was exactly what I needed on a hot summery day. The shanghai-style noodles were delicious. I loved the chicken, veggies, and thick noodles. I'd order this dish again in a heartbeat. Drove past this place a couple times expecting a legit tea house, but realized it was a hk cafe after looking it up. Prices are pretty good and has afternoon tea. Chicken wings - afternoon tea comes with 4 wings and fries or 6 without fries. Wings were tiny and not well seasoned. Would not get again. Milk tea was way over steeped. would not get again. French toast was ok, not crispy, but not soggy. Bread was large but pretty thin, and minimal amount of butter. Had a bad experience for food here, but partner had a good one. Will have to come back and try out the countless other items posted on the wall. read more
Came for afternoon tea (230-600). Got their hk style toast (comes with pb) and bf rice noodle. The hk style toast isn't crispy, but the pb basically goes to the edge. Comes with butter on top and the syrup comes cold--it's kinda refreshing. Overall, hits the spot and would get again. The beef rice noodle comes with a lot of bean sprouts and the beef is a bit red. Noodle texture is excellent and overall pretty tasty. The hk milk tea is a bit inconsistent and can be oversteeped. My partner got the chicken wings (doesn't come with fries, but you can swap some wings for them), and unfortunately looked kinda sad. 6 wings sparsely placed... tasted okay. Only place I found so far that has soya milk as an option for their afternoon tea drink. So will definitely come back. Will see if I can get it hot next time. Also price point is really good (7.50 for hk style toast, and $9 for bf rice nood). No upcharge for cold drinks. Place is old looking and service is pretty slow, but for that price point and staple food items, worth the wait. read more

I don't really like this place especially not when you compare it to other HK style cafes. Why? Because I usually order the egg sandwich and other places usually make their eggs scrambled, super fluffy with soft bread/toast and butter. This place... once they made my sandwich with probably half an egg - it barely filled the bread and it was pan fried ie. pour the egg on the pan and flip it once it starts browning. The second time I ordered it, it was a fried egg. It was the saddest soggy egg sandwich of life. Make up your mind on how you want your egg sandwich. My mom comes here a lot and gets the pork vermicelli with preserved vegetables (I think) and she really likes it hence I endure their shitty egg sandwich for my mother's enjoyment. read more
If you know typical Hong Kong style cafes, you'll know what to expect from Red Tea House. A bit of a hole-in-the-wall feel, super local, fast service, good food quantity, and cheapo prices. What they do well, they do really well. The item that I get, and crave, is their pork chop noodle breakfast special that comes with a drink. I usually get the HK-style milk tea. The hubs usually gets his satay beef noodle soup and a second order of fried noodles. They serve a plethora of other typical Hong Kong breakfast foods like pineapple buns with butter, combos that are variations of eggs, luncheon meat, ham, breakfast macaroni in soup, etc. They also serve a lot of Cantonese rice, noodle and entree dishes, which I've found to be OK. I stick to what I love about this place and have pretty much always come out happy. It's located in a strip plaza on Kennedy - pretty easy to miss if you're not looking for it. You get what you pay for - nothing fancy - inexpensive and tasty! English is not the most useful language at the Tea House but the staff are helpful and the take-out menus have English subtitles. :) read more
