Yum, yum! My friend was visiting and we were doing some Pasadena sight-seeing when we got hungry. She doesn't often go to Thai restaurants and this was nearby so we stopped in on the walk home to order takeout. I ordered the lavender lemonade and pad Thai snow crab. Not sure either of these items are very authentic, but I ordered them because I'd never seen them offered at a Thai restaurant previously. My friend ordered one of the curries, and we ended up having to come back to order food for my roommate because she wanted some too. My friend really liked hers, and mine was so good! The pad Thai...umami central! I had to seriously control myself from eating the whole thing in one go and saved half for the next day. The lavender lemonade wasn't bad but I didn't think it was anything to write home about. I didn't have much interaction with the employees outside of ordering and I didn't step inside the restaurant (at this time they were taking orders from behind plexiglass at the front door), so I can't really comment on anything else. If you're in the area and in the mood for Thai food, you should definitely check out this little restaurant. read more

Intimate and cozy thai restaurant. Our server was pleasant. We mentioned that the color of their pad thai was different than we are used to, and he went into details about why it could be. His description for his dishes really reflect his love for them. The food is fantastic. Crab meat fried rice is LOADED with crab meat. You get nice big chunks of them in each bite. Yellow curry was a bit too spicy for my liking but tasted great overall. Thai tea is served in a cute bottle/cup and tastes fantastic. Parking was single handedly the issue for me here. Aside from food, the parking situation is decidedly what will deter me from ever coming back. It was I think 7-8pm on a Saturday when I came in after parking at a meter and asked the waitstaff if parking enforcement tickets at that hour. They didn't know. I asked for change to feed the meters because I didn't want to risk it. They didn't have change. If I ran a business whose parking relies wholly on metered parking outside my business you best know I'd make sure my customers got change to stay longer to order more food... but that's just me. The food itself was decent, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. The vegetarian pad see ew had no protein for my guest. The next day I had to scramble 2 more eggs to add it to the leftover pad see ew. How sad is that. Not recommended if you want good Thai. read more

I had been wanting to try this Thai restaurant for quite some time, so it gives me no pleasure to say that I thought the food was truly awful. Located in Old Town Pasadena, I found parking easy enough on the street. The place itself is a small, slender space with a handful of tables, but there was only one other couple dining there when we ate. Service was friendly and attentive, though when I asked about ordering a hot sake, the conversation went on way longer than it should've. There seemed to be confusion on their alcohol offerings, and maybe they should consider a drink list. There also was something wrong with their plumbing. When we sat down, there was the horrible stench of sewage hovering in the air. When my son went to the men's room, he said that the smell of sewage was unbearable. Gross and unsanitary! But on to the food. We ordered two appetizers and two mains. We got the chicken sate and shrimp sate. The spices on the meat itself were odd, and I've had sate at what must be a good thousand different thai restaurants. This was one of the worst, and it didn't help that the peanut dipping sauce was also truly bizarre and did not taste good at all. For the mains we had the hot basil chicken and the hot basil chicken chow mein. The basil chicken is ground up which makes it hard to separate from all the vegetables. I don't really like eating large chunks of onions, so I had to pick stuff out before every bite. But it didn't matter because the sauces, once again, in both dishes were awful. Obviously, by the reviews, there are plenty of people championing this place. I love Thai food and eat it regularly. For me, this place was unique, in that none of the food tasted like anything I had before anywhere else, but those flavors were terrible and are nothing I'd like to eat again. Won't be going back. My opinion is go elsewhere like Thai Thyme in Monrovia or Hae Ha Heng in Koreatown, two of the best Thai I've found in Los Angeles. read more

Parking, we got lucky and got street parking. We walked in at 7.15 on Friday and there was no one. The restaurant just has about 6 to 7 tables. That's never a good sign. But the food was actually very good. The portions were good for the price. Squid salad was spicy and very tasty. The Tom yum soup with chicken was very good. usually the chicken in the soups are dry but this was nice and tender. Maybe a tad bit salty. Pearl green curry was also nice. Thai spicy noodles with beef I'm told was good. Sexy sea bass I ordered just because of the name but it was just ok. Spicy hot basil w beef was good but nothing memorable. While staying in Pasadena, I was looking for a spot close by to have lunch. I was in the mood for Thai food and found this place walking distance from my hotel. I found the inside of the restaurant to be VERY pleasant. It is small and feels very cozy. I went around 1:30 pm, so it wasn't very crowded when I got there. The music playing in the background was very soothing and the place just had a very calm vibe all around. I was seated immediately at my table and was able to order very quickly. My waitress was very friendly, attentive, and had a good attitude. After I ordered, my meal was also brought out very quickly. I ordered the Pearl Red Curry with white rice. Side note, I LOVE how they don't charge extra for white rice. Many Thai places do and I find it incredibly annoying since it is a core part of the curry in my opinion. So extra brownie points for that. My curry was AMAZING - it was so full of spices and flavor!! Truly one of the best curries I've ever had. The chicken was cooked well (not rubbery, not dry). I personally don't like eggplant (or really a ton of veggies in general), but found the other veggies to be a great addition. If you're not a big fan of veggies, I would recommend asking them to go light on those as there are a lot. I felt like the price was very reasonable for how full I was after and how good the meal was. If I lived around here, I would definitely come back! The prices seem reasonable at first glance until you want shrimp or meat, which bumps it up a few dollars. Parking was bad as you have to use the meter. Had an interesting experience at this restaurant. Be there at least a hour earlier. ‍ ‍ We saw quite a few customers get turned down. And A customer who sat down, got irate for being reminded 2-3 times about being rushed to order, even started arguing with waitress and the customer got irritated, left the restaurant and didn't order anything. Never seen a waitress so very pushy about their closing time that the two customers left! I understand they have to go home but it's also a business for repeat customers. And being a very small and very narrow restaurant. I would think that each dollar matters. Unlike a Big Huge restaurant. Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing strategy. Some Future Money just flew out the door Just saying. ⁉My advice would be put a Big sign saying you CLOSE at 9 but KITCHEN closes at 8 or hour before close. Just my opinion. But over all Food was good 7 out of 10 but definitely overpriced. I've noticed that some restaurants load it up with bits of flavors and others just give a sprinkle to the silver rice noodles. Pearl Thai Eatery makes a delicious one! It's packed with tasty bits of mint leaves, red onion, chicken, shrimp, roasted peanuts, Thai lime dressing and sprinkled with a generous amount of crushed red peppers! It's been a while since I've actually walked along Hollly street and today noticed a new (to me) Thai restaurant. Decided to go in after browsing a few reviews. First things first, they offer you a free Thai iced tea for the table if you spend a min of $10. Nice gesture but it would've been nice if they clarified that in the terms for the offer. Ordered a few items to try for our table. Tom yum gai - was just ok as the soup tasted a bit watered down. Spicy basil w/ gai - just ok as well as there wasn't any heat nor basil flavor. Yellow curry w/ gai - probably one of the best dishes we had. Pad see ew gai - decent and one of the better dishes we had Overall service was attentive and ok in terms of other Thai restaurants in the Old Town area. If I had a choice, I'd just take a 10 min drive down to President Thai for a more authentic meal. read more

I had ordered from Pearl but hadn't been in for some time. It is clean and calm inside, with nice music playing softly and attentive service. The food is fresh and flavorful. I had the spicy beef salad on a hot muggy day and it was refreshing and very flavorful. You can request as much or as little spice as you personally prefer. There is a wide range of items available on the menu, and I wanted to order more but on this day I kept it simple. My friend ordered the Larb and it was also fresh, flavorful and both of our dishes were plentiful with generous servings. This is a gem, on Holly Street in Old Town. I was not overly impressed by Pearl. The space is extremely small, with seating for 22 people total. The food is overpriced for the amount that you get. They were even stingy on the rice! Some of the better Thai food I've had in a while. A few friends and I stumbled upon this place after participating in a a peace rally. Our bellies were not disappointed at all. Located on a busy street with little parking and a few tables inside. They could probably accommodate parties of 8 however most tables sat 2-6 people. Offering plenty of good eats at reasonable prices. From the cashew chicken to the fried rice and the Pad Thai the Mister and I were extremely satisfied with everything. It is pretty much the best Pad Thai we have had in a while. Not a huge portion but very tastey. Our friends inhaled their green curry and the Rad noodles and were equally pleased. My advice add extra meat to everything! Service was just okay. They kind of just drop off your food and go, checking on you infrequently. Parking sucks nanners. Was not expecting this at all, I was headed across the street for sushi and saw the sign and figured I would try it. The interior is intimate but pleasant, the service was prompt and extremely friendly. I had the Avocado roll and was expecting something small, the rolls were great sized and super fresh, not bad mushy avocado. The meal was clean and perfect. Thought the foods were too sweet. Had their chicken Pad Thai and spicy catfish - pad Thai was too ketchupy and the curry in the spicy catfish was overwhelmed by its sweet coconut base. Portions were smaller than expected. You get about 3 half of my palm size pieces of cat fish with very minimal amount of veggies and garnish. I added rice to my pad Thai to balance out the sweetness - and it was just the right amount of food with the carb addition. This is my favorite Thai Place in Pasadena! Though a little pricey, you can tell this place is authentic. My favorite dishes so far are the Sexy sea bass and the Spicy Basil wok with seafood. Can't go wrong with any of the noodle dishes. I found the grilled beef entree to be a bit too dry for my taste. Service is quick and attentive. Brought my family of 5 here for a casual dinner and they all polished off their food. I think what makes this place so great is they get the little things right. The brown rice is out of this world (I've never said that before about any restaurant LOL), and the Thai iced tea reminds me of the kind they serve in Thailand. I love thai food and have been to Thailand before. Random day out and decided to give this restaurant a try. We ordered a few items and yes it was delicious. We ordered, salad, green bean chicken, fried crab wonton and rad na. I didn't see any spices or sauces out but maybe since it's covid they took it away. We ordered: Crab Rangoon- good but the skin was different than normal- less crispy/crunchy? Pearl Panang curry- DELICIOUS. It's not crazy spicy just a bit mild I think. Comes with a small white rice. It has the coconut taste and brought me back to Thailand! Good portion of chicken. Spicy fried rice with chicken - not spicy .. the s/o enjoyed it. Chicken pad Thai- delicious! A decent Thai restaurant with a small hole in the wall feel. The staff were all very friendly and displayed great customer service. The place isn't too big, so a table wasn't available when we arrived. They temporarily set up a table for us but quickly cleared a table for four when the other patrons left and moved us over. I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and I enjoyed it very much. I don't usually order tofu, but I was in the mood for it and it was turned out to be a great decision. After this experience, I'll probably increase my Pad Thai tofu orders. The tofu came in big chunks and tasted really good mixed in the with the Pad Thai. The dish also has a wet consistency, so a big plus if you like your Pad Thai with a wetter base. The only downside was the chili sauces weren't all that spicy, we had to continue adding more of the spices throughout our meal to heat things up. Not a negative if you're not too fond of spices though! This was some great Pad Thai and one of the places I would consider going to for Thai food in Pasadena. I just came back from a foreign trip, and the Thai food there was terrible. Pearl Thai Eatery was a great pick me up after that experience.
