After agreeing and asking the question two more times, he responds "before 5pm," effectively the entire day. I think to myself, no big deal--he'll let me know when he's on the way so I can communicate that with the tenant. Flash forward to 3pm when he says he's on his way. I immediately inform the tenant who advises me he had stepped out but would be back in 5-10 minutes. I informed the HVAC technician immediately but he doesn't respond. I eventually call him only to receive an attitude on the other line saying he left the moment he realized no one was home. We argued for a bit until finally my tenant called him and pleaded with him to return over an hour later. Once he actually arrived, he charged me 3 hours of labor (over $800 total) for ~15 min of troubleshooting and a deep clean on the condenser... a task that should've only taken a pro ~45 min. If you value honesty and good communication, this is NOT the company to call. To make matters worse, upon learning of this review, the technician proceeded to harass me via text with all sorts of insults and slurs.

Clarification was further provided that the technician would charge for the hours that they worked for (Initial Estimate was ~5hrs work). Once the work was completed, the back office sent an office for the amount for the whole estimated time even though it took less than half the time (~1.5hrs). When the invoice was received it was a shocker since based on the communication prior to the work it was agreed to be per hour basis. After refutation, the invoice was revised to a lower number but still did not reflect the hours the technician worked. Its been a struggle to ensure alignment - I would not recommend them for any work!

When hardware was available, I received a friendly e-mail for possible scheduling dates. Eric arrived right on time and got right to the job. He used drop clothes to protect floor and counters, cut away bath tiles to access old piping, ran new water feeds to a new, single handle control valve. Installed matching spout, drain, shower and matching decorative trim plate to cover the new control valve. At the end, Eric checked the valve scald setting to endure safety of the new water output. We were shown what he was doing as the project progressed, and he cleaned up all trash to our satisfaction at the end. Eric was here about 5 hours and was totally professional and friendly throughout. We are totally satisfied. Laamco has maintained our old HVAC system for decades, and recently installed a replacement system. They have installed a new water heater as well. We are completely satisfied with the technicians, plumbers and staff at Laamco. We highly recommend them for any heating, cooling or plumbing service or maintenance.

One never got back to me, the second one was totally obnoxious to deal with (they have an answering service from hell!), and RPM responded within an hour or so. Matt, who called me back, is responsive and communicates clearly. He listened to my story (I had done a bunch of troubleshooting myself) and gave me the feeling that he took me seriously (a good feeling and by no means standard). The guys who came out were professional and friendly. They seemed to know what they were doing and what they were talking about. The troubleshot the system and then re-charged it with coolant. The system works now. This was not a difficult task, but they did the job well and I feel they charged me fairly. I will certainly hire them again for my next issue and can and will recommend them to others.

Called Demelo for a second opinion, and they came the next day. Good experience overall and saved me from getting scammed.

We were a long time customer of Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. Over the years we have…read moreused them for drainage issues, plumbing repair and hot water heater maintenance and until recently delivered a reasonable service. On our request, Demelo came to our house on June 7 to clear a clogged kitchen drain. The technician worked on it and declared the problem fixed. We were charged $230. About a week later the drain was clogged again. On June 17 Demelo returned to clear the same clogged drain. A different technician "fixed it" and charged us another $370. In a weak moment I paid. So after paying $600 and one more week, the drain was clogged again for the 3rd time. On June 28, we called Ari's ProDrain Cleaning to clear the same clogged drain that none of the Demelo technicians were able clear. Ari charged us $250 and gave a 30 day warranty. The drain is working well now. I contacted Demelo several times to complain and I requested a $300 refund (should be all $600). After several calls the Demelo business person told me that the owner can only authorize a $60 credit on THE NEXT SERVICE. Demelo does not provide a warranty on their work even though their website states under plumbing services: "Demelo Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning is there to fix those problems, making sure your day-to-day routines, whether at work or home, continue unabated. Need an installation or repair? Call us. We'll have one of our team members out to appraise the situation and get you up and running, leaving you with the confidence of knowing the job was done properly." In other words empty words. The charge time and materials whether they fix the problem or not. Clearly a company to avoid.

In Massachusetts, many plumbing and HVAC companies overcharge by layering unnecessary services…read more First, you're billed for the answering service. Then, someone else shows up just to look at the problem. Finally, a third person provides an appraisal--leaving you with the highest invoice, even for the simplest job. A repair that should cost under $100 in parts can easily end up costing $1,000. On top of that, while they promise a 24-hour response, you can still end up waiting two weeks in the middle of a hot summer for your AC to actually be fixed. But if you call Dave at Alwife Plumbing 617-699-4358, it's a completely different experience. He and his small, professional team handle the job efficiently and on a reasonable budget. Dave often knows exactly what needs to be fixed after just a simple phone call or text message--and he always approaches the work with the happiest, most helpful attitude.

Very expensive project (20g plus!) should be done well! It's been about 1.5 years since they installed two hvac systems. They are still trying to fix the systems and make then work correct. Every time thy are here they damage our walls. The system is still open and unfinished. They have rerouted things and replaced parts galore but it still is terrible. 2/111/19 update I'm happy to post an update. It's taken YEARS to have the system mostly working. Alewife has returned numerous times to try and fix things. 20% of the issues were related to the insulating problem, but that doesn't change the fact that the humidifier was installed incorrectly and had to be uninstalled. (that $1000 piece of equipment is sitting on our basement floor, useless). We removed ALL THE INSULATION and opened up the whole space AGAIN so that alewife could "fix" it all again. Yes the company will return to fix things, but why do we have so many problems with the system all along? Nobody is accepting responsibility for their poor installations.

The system works very well-- the house is warm, and it's reduced our energy usage by about 40%. (Our old boiler was inefficient and the radiators weren't zoned.) Before the installation, I talked over the design with the Heatech folks (I'm a mechanical engineer), and they were reasonable in dealing with my concerns and if they were bothered by my detailed questions, they didn't show it. They clearly know what they're doing, and the plumbing work they did was beautiful. The guy who recommended them to me said that they "did what they said they would do, pretty much when they said they would." That turned out to be accurate-- they cashed my deposit check in September, but the installation didn't happen until November. That was my only disappointment. Pricewise, big stuff like boilers and water tanks is always more expensive than you'd like it to be, but given the amount of time they spent, and the cost of the hardware, I think I got a reasonable deal. I'd definitely hire them again, but I'd be more clear about when the installation was going to happen before I gave them a deposit.
