I've never left a negative review before, but I feel morally obligated to share my experience so others considering mini-split installations can be warned. From the start, the installation process was riddled with problems. Rather than detailing each issue (which the company would likely try to excuse, as they did every time I raised concerns), I'm posting pictures so you can judge for yourself. I strongly recommend getting everything in writing--many verbal guarantees I received were completely disregarded. For example, instead of floor units in my kids' bedrooms, I was given ceiling units, one of which is positioned so low it practically touches my son while he sleeps. Now, as I'm finishing my basement, I had a friend who works in HVAC assess the mess Earth Tech left behind. He estimated it would take 3-4 days and cost around $3,000 to fix. He also explained the risks associated with their work: pipes joined in the middle are prone to future leaks, especially when unsupported, as stress on the joints increases the likelihood of failure. With so many joints, locating a leak would be nearly impossible. Shockingly, much of the system is held together with duct tape. While this may last through their warranty period, it's clear the entire system was designed to last just long enough to shift the responsibility of repairs onto the customer. read more

BEWARE: For anyone considering hiring these people - Look elsewhere. They came to fix something in my house but said there was a pre-existing electrical problem from the initial install and that it would cause problems until it was eventually fixed. They told me that they would send their electrician by the next day to take care of it. 11 months later they still hadn't sent anyone and my system needed service. They refused to come until the electrician could fix it and they assured me he would call me that day to schedule his visit. He didn't call. I called every business day for 4 more days asking where the electrician was and expressing the increasing urgency of getting the job completed before the cold+snow hit on Friday. Finally on Thursday, in desperation I asked Earthtech if I could call the electrician myself and they gave me his number. Magically he was able to come the same day. However, Earthtech hadn't briefed him properly on my home so he didn't have the parts he needed. He offered to come by the next morning early (which he did and completed everything promptly) and recommended that I tell Earthtech to come by in the morning as well because everything would be ready for them. I emailed Earthtech promptly and they got back to me at 5am next morning saying that I would have to pay double because it was Friday. When I complained that their sub didn't come for a year and that the delay was entirely on them and that they should have warned me at some point earlier in the week that if I let this wait until Friday I would be getting double billed, Terry yelled at me that this was somehow my fault and fired me as a client. TL;DR - Terrible customer service. Unreliable; unwilling to take responsibility for their failures; shakedown artists. read more

Buyer beware. Sounds like my experience was similar to what others had experienced. I have a problematic geothermal system. I went w/ Earthtek for maintenance based on a recommendation from a HVAC provider. Things were fine until they weren't. I was having consistent system shutdowns and had requested service. During service the technicians said I was up and running but that they would provide estimates on how to fix things long term. The system had catastrophic failure two days after and the team never provided the estimates as promised. Instead I recevied a bill for over $1000 a month later. I inquired about the estimates and fact that the system had failed and zero response. When I got another notification about the bill I reached out again and got the same treatment as others. Zero responsibility taken, and they had decided without telling me that they weren't interested in doing the project. And started getting aggressive about me paying the bill despite never responding to my inquiries or communicating that no estimates were coming. So they wanted $1000 for someone to drive to my house and back, essentially. Save your money and look elsewhere. read more

Terry was very helpful in explaining the installation and the pros and cons of a geothermal system. He was knowledgable about other non geothermal system and took a lot ot time to compare the different systems. Unfortunately, I am out of the Mass. installation area. But he was kind enough to offer referrals to companies that do install in my state. read more

Beware of dishonesty. Sometime in February 2023 my tankless boiler system was making a loud clicking sound. It turned out the 3-way valve actuator was broken. EarthTech Systems' technicians came and ascertained the situation and quoted me for the replacement of the part (around $700 total). They advised that the part was difficult to find because it's no longer manufactured but they'd look. Two days later they came (on a Friday conveniently enough as the fees doubled) and replaced the broken item with no further advice to me. I was at that point a happy customer and I paid my invoice and I was thinking this story was behind me. Two months later I discovered that the system had been leaking at the exact juncture between the 3-way valve and the pipe, which indicated to me that this was not a perfect fit. So I called the company and one of the owners Terry came to check it out but he guaranteed me on the phone that the leak was coming from the pipe inside the concrete beneath my floor, per his experience. When I told him I had pictures of before and after the leak he was less argumentative. When he showed up he agreed that the leak was at the boiler level and not in the ground. I asked what his team is able to do to make me whole again. Long story short, they sent me another quote for $3,000 or so in order to replace some of the pipes to fit with the 3-way valve. I argued that they should make me whole for poor workmanship. Terry responded that his team takes zero responsibility in the aftermath of the project they initially completed. Now I'm left with water damage in my kitchen and a broken boiler. I do not recommend this company to anyone who expects honest or professional work. read more

I bought an old house with the original heating system last fall. I reached out to several heating companies for quotes, but EarthTech was the only one that spent time helping me decide among my options for a more efficient system. Terry spent an hour or more at my house walking me through geothermal, mini-splits, gas, etc., and did not pressure me to get a system beyond my budget. He also coordinated directly with the asbestos removal company I chose, and found a company to remove my old boiler and oil tank. Although the process took a little longer than I expected, Terry was very communicative through it all, and he always made sure the house was fully functional (e.g. installing a temporary water heater during the transition). He's called several times since the installation to make sure everything is going well. My house was warm and my heating bills were reasonable all winter! read more

September,2020 EarthTech Systems completed an update/re-install of a Geothermal system I had installed in 2010 in a residential home in Winchester,Ma. This was not something I planned on doing I was having a problem with a 15 year old boiler (primarily used for hot water) and original HVAC contractor who installed the boiler and Geothermal system had retired and closed his business. Looking for a HVAC contractor who services residential Geothermal systems and tried several EarthTech Systems was the first I found to be fully capable of servicing and installing residential Geothermal. There is a big reason I trusted EarthTech Systems. Another property in Newton,MA I colleague of mine had the same HVAC contractor who installed the geothermal system in Winchester install two geothermal systems. These two systems in Newton were installed in 2015 and had heat pump system errors repeatedly. Several HVAC contractors attempted to service them and all thought after spending time trying to service them problem was with well. When EarthTech Systems came this past summer to service them they very quickly found problem was water pressure and indeed they proved it to be the problem. This was quite a relief. A problem with the well would have been a big problem. I diverge here from the property in Winchester but this was the big reason. There is a lot to say about the installation in Winchester but this is already getting to be a long winded review. Like to say EarthTech Systems along with very experienced geothermal technicians has all the right tools and equipment and fully stocked trucks. They worked long days to complete the installation. And have to say the installation truly turned out to be quite a beautiful improvement from the way it was better than imagined. Technology for sure has improved quite a bit in the last 10 years. Also good to know you can apply for a geothermal Federal income tax credit more than once when you need to replace geothermal equipment. read more

We have used Earth Tech Systems for heating & cooling systems in both of our homes. We cannot be happier with the service & professionalism of this company. They go to the ends of the earth to find solutions & the best possible way to accommodate your needs & budget. Whenever I need them they respond back to me within 5 minutes of my calling. Immediate service is key when heating a home in New England. We have been customers of them for the past ten years and would never use anyone else ! Our home up North had many problems with the old system going down when we were not there through the past 15 years. A few years ago Earth Tech installed a state of the art Mitsubishi heating & a/c unit for us & I can't tell you what a blessing that was ! The heat is steady & even at all times & it warms up the whole house within 20 mins of our arriving. It really makes a huge difference not having to worry while we are away that our home will lose the heat & we will have to scramble to try & find a repairman on the weekend in the middle of the winter when we are they to enjoy family time. My husband and I purchased a house with an existing (out dated) geothermal HVAC system. We renovated the house over a one year period, and throughout that time were unsuccessful in finding a company that would respond to our calls and/or had the expertise to diagnose our system and make recommendations. Finally, Earth Tech was mentioned to me by a plumber. Terry answered my call. Together with his son, Ryan, my system was modernized. Terry recommended and handled the necessary interaction with a well company, which included a new well pump, among other items. Terry and Ryan provided us with both new equipment, as well as modifications to my nine year old furnace. I am still learning the intricacies of geothermal systems, and calling Terry from time to time. The expertise of and help from Terry and Ryan has been essential. My husband & I are so grateful for Earth Tech's professionalism, courtesy and especially their two Tech's Terry & Ryan (father & son) who installed our state of the art Navien heating system. Their attention to detail is above and beyond our expectations because we are very meticulous people and they left us speechless with their finished product. Recently we sold our home and the day before the closing we had a freeze up. We didn't have a particular plumber that we used, but the first person we thought to call was Earth Tech. Mind you this happened during the worst freeze up in the country and finding a plumber was an endless task. When we called Ryan he had us call his dad Terry who was closest to us to see if he could help us. I can't begin to tell you what a true blessing Terry was. He had us go thru different exercises to narrow down if the freeze up was inside our outside. It was determined that it was outside. Upon waiting for Boston Water & Sewer to fix the issue which lasted 4 days before it was rectified, but when I tell you how comforted we were during this stressful ordeal because every time (at least 10 times) we called Terry he either picked up right away or called us back in less then 5 minutes.
