My old steam boiler developed a…read morecracked heat exchanger, and Max Heating was prompt, informative, and willing to do the replacement during the New Year holiday. Dan and Sam have been stand-out with the depth of their answers to my questions. I appreciate that immensely as a demonstration of how much they care about the subject matter, and how much they care about ensuring I'm properly informed on what is happening. Sam and his crew were out all day yesterday dismantling the old boiler and installing the new one. They were friendly and engaged the whole time letting me observe the process. Sam called me over throughout to show me up close what had corroded in my old boiler, and to explain to me how it happened. He did the same during install of the new boiler to demonstrate all the critical aspects for maintenance--including letting me unscrew and rescrew a piece to practice for future cleaning. The new boiler is running smoothly right now. I feel like I understand its pieces. Sam even took an interest in diagnosing why my bathroom heating panel (which has never worked) wasn't heating. He cleaned out its vent and it has heat now. My cat is very happy to be warm right now. From the way Sam and his crew talked through all the aspects of the work they were doing, it was clear they take pride in the quality of the work. This wasn't just a job to get over and done with. And what's more, they did it for $2k cheaper than my competing quote. Max Heating and Cooling will be the first people I call for any plumbing projects I have going forward.

Everyone was easy to work with, responsive, and professional. The installation was done promptly and at a fair price, offering good value for the quality of work. They made sure the system was running perfectly before wrapping up. Highly recommend.

However, once it became clear the pipe was not easily accessible, there was no clear plan or resolution offered beyond cutting random holes in the wall to try to locate it. Despite this, I was still charged the full amount we had discussed for resolving the issue. The lack of basic diagnostic tools--such as a thermal imaging camera--was already concerning, but what followed is why I'm leaving a negative review. Payment by credit card was not accepted and this was not disclosed beforehand, so I was required to pay via Venmo. I eventually received a receipt from a personal Gmail account, which felt unprofessional. When I asked for a written explanation of the issue, I was ignored for some time and ultimately received a hostile response (along with a refund) stating that he didn't have time to deal with me. I don't believe my request warranted that kind of reaction. TL;DR: For a very simple job, this may be an affordable option if you're comfortable paying cash/Venmo and don't expect much professionalism. For anything more complex--or if you value clear communication and professional conduct--I'd look elsewhere.

Decided that the sink was probably the issue, so I reached out over yelp on Sunday, had a quick call to discuss the issue, and he showed up at 9:00 am on Monday. Replaced my bathroom sink and faucet in no time and left the bathroom clean. Refreshing change from other plumbers I've dealt with who leave the area a mess and are late showing up. Will definitely use again!

I had what I consider a small job: replace two non-working shut-off valves from my kitchen water…read moreline, and one for the toilet water line. I must have called eight different plumbers or companies. Three would not provide free quotes or estimates, and they would have charged outrageous service call fees that one has to pay regardless of whether one accepts their quotes. Three companies offered free estimates and quotes. One quote was so ridiculously high, and when I questioned the price they described that the price included "Isolating water supply to unit by means of water main; relieving the pressure...." and the list went on and on, including a ridiculous list of normal steps for any plumbing job, including checking for proper functioning and leaks, as if these were the reason for the high costs listed on their estimates. It was a bit insulting. Petros was the last person I called, and he was refreshing. He asked for pictures of the valves in question, and before he gave me any quotes over the phone, he explained the options for repair and recommendations. He described the cost of the different types of valves (spoiler alert---they are not that expensive)--and explained his fee. No, he was not cheap, but I so appreciated the no-nonsense explanations and upfront pricing. I knew what the job was going to cost me, and exactly how much of the cost was going to materials vs. labor. Old fashion-business model and transparency that I appreciate. When he came to the house, he was friendly, efficient and professional; he explained and showed me what he did and what was wrong with the valves that were broken; and left the premises clean when he was done. He is a two-man company/team, so I cannot attest to how it would work calling him for larger jobs or emergency jobs, but I will definitely use his services again in the future.

Communication was clear, scheduling was straightforward, and the team arrived on time. It is most helpful that Mr. Floros uses text messaging to communicate. It makes the process so much easier. He explained the work in detail, including the equipment being installed and what to expect during and after the process. The installation itself was efficient and clean. They took care to protect the surrounding area, removed the old unit without issue, and ensured everything was properly connected and functioning before leaving. It was evident that they were experienced and followed proper installation practices. Overall, this was a well-managed, professional job. I would use them again and would recommend them to others looking for reliable plumbing work.

They were patient and listened to all my concerns as I had many things that needed to be done in my house. They were prompt in returning with quotes for the work. They were a tad higher in price than some others, but I enjoyed working with them as they are fast to respond and explained everything to me in detail and provided detailed itemized quotes. My intuition paid off and they delivered very high quality work. I'm looking to have more work done soon and am very likely to book their services a second time. The one small downside was that I recalled they don't do some types of work that I have needed done, so have to find others to bridge the gaps. The work they did for me last year was replacing a bunch of shutoff valves for indoor and outdoor fixtures including spigots and my shower fixtures.

Although the situation was not really an emergency (a failed heating system would be more of a concern considering the cold spell we were experiencing), Stacey at Big Blue, treated it that way, and made this job a priority. He was knowledgeable, polite, and respectful of me and my wife, and our property. He answered all our questions, and explained things to me in detail. Also, the cost to replace the hot water heater was quite reasonable. I would not hesitate to hire Big Blue Plumbing and Heating for future jobs. Thank you!

We're a small collective that shares stories from freelance and contract workers who've been…read moretreated unfairly. This is one of those stories. A contractor was hired by this company to build a fully functional website on a rushed timeline. They were told they were the only person working on the project, and that the urgency was due to the company's former developer being in a legal dispute and planning to take down the live site by June 1st, 2025. The contractor dropped everything to help and finished the site two weeks before the deadline. Over the course of several weeks, the contractor even went to their office multiple times for meetings with the owner's son and other team members, working in good faith to move the project forward. After the work was done, it came to light that two or three other people were also working on the same site, despite the company claiming otherwise from the start. When the contractor followed up for payment, the owner's son who was the main point of contact allegedly said "My boy could do it for less than $1,000, so our initial agreement on price is gonna be a lot less now." He also added he was going on vacation in 15 days and "didn't have time to deal with it." All this while wearing an expensive Rolex. The contractor was told, "Send me the invoice I'll pay you for your time." The invoice was sent immediately, and the son followed up once more saying, "I'll get back to you." After that, he went completely silent no reply, no payment. The contractor was left dismissed and disrespected. The stress and anxiety from this on top of an existing heart condition led to serious mental and physical strain. Legal steps have since been taken. This post is meant to warn others if you're a freelancer, contractor, or subcontractor, be cautious. Get everything in writing, and don't ignore red flags. No one should be pressured, misled, ghosted, or lowballed after showing up, putting in the time, and delivering their end of the deal.
