A few months after the install, all units stopped working after a storm. After months of back-and-forth, he finally realized -- through trial and error - that the boards of all units are fried and need to be replaced. His best guess? "Your condenser probably got hit by lightning" (condenser is on the roof, but we have a lightning rod; there's been no indication otherwise that the building got hit by lightning). A few weeks pass by, some more rain, same thing happens again. Replace all the boards again. "Your condenser keeps getting hit by lightning". A few more weeks, same thing again. By this point a year has passed after the install and we have spent most of that year with our $30,000 mini splits completely non-functional. It's also pretty clear that it's an issue with the install and nothing to do with imaginary lighting. Then Hiram has the audacity to inform us that our one-year contract has expired and now we have to start paying him for repairs, even though this issue started while we were still under contract and has persisted for months because Hiram has simply been unable to fix it. At this point, I was willing to just move on and hire a more competent contractor to fix the issue. That's when we started having other contractors look at the system and realized what a horrendous job Hiram had done. Most egregiously, the wiring had been done incorrectly, creating a huge FIRE HAZARD and potentially exposing our entire household and our neighbors to significant PROPERTY DAMAGE and potentially loss of life. See attached screenshot from assessment. In addition, there have been numerous other issues with the install: - Water repeatedly leaking from the heat pumps into our house when it rains - Exposed lines - Condenser freely standing on the roof, not affixed to anything - Slopily taped line set covers - Sloppily installed water pumps - Overall poor craftsmanship See attached images. We are currently addressing the issues one by one with multiple contractors. To be clear, WE ARE STILL WITHOUT A/C TWO YEARS AFTER THE INSTALL. We only really had it working for ~6 months. Unclear if it's even salvageable. In hindsight, there were also multiple red flags that we overlooked in the beginning, but should have given us pause: - Hiram did not know that Fujitsu is Japanese. How can you not know the country of origin of your main supplier? - He drilled through brick in our apartment without any precautions, filling our entire house with brick dust. He had no idea it's hazardous to breathe in, he didn't even put a mask on himself. Our entire condo was covered in brick dust. We had a 1-year-old kid at the time. - He did not clean up properly after himself, our son ended up with a glass shard in his foot Overall, I would not recommend Hiram's services to anyone. He is polite and responsive, but when push comes to shove, his work is not just poor quality, but outright dangerous. Hiram, before you post some sob response like "I'm just trying to feed my family man", consider this - you put my family, and my neighbors' families at risk because of your incompetence. And you ultimately refused to take responsibility. You should be ashamed of your work and of your character. (Responding to Hiram's response) -- there were no "stories", I was just trying to help you figure out what could be causing this. Yes, you definitely blamed lightning multiple times. I had multiple contractors take a look at it and say the same things. This is not "Mother Nature". This is just a plain bad job.

Clarification was further provided that the technician would charge for the hours that they worked for (Initial Estimate was ~5hrs work). Once the work was completed, the back office sent an office for the amount for the whole estimated time even though it took less than half the time (~1.5hrs). When the invoice was received it was a shocker since based on the communication prior to the work it was agreed to be per hour basis. After refutation, the invoice was revised to a lower number but still did not reflect the hours the technician worked. Its been a struggle to ensure alignment - I would not recommend them for any work!

When hardware was available, I received a friendly e-mail for possible scheduling dates. Eric arrived right on time and got right to the job. He used drop clothes to protect floor and counters, cut away bath tiles to access old piping, ran new water feeds to a new, single handle control valve. Installed matching spout, drain, shower and matching decorative trim plate to cover the new control valve. At the end, Eric checked the valve scald setting to endure safety of the new water output. We were shown what he was doing as the project progressed, and he cleaned up all trash to our satisfaction at the end. Eric was here about 5 hours and was totally professional and friendly throughout. We are totally satisfied. Laamco has maintained our old HVAC system for decades, and recently installed a replacement system. They have installed a new water heater as well. We are completely satisfied with the technicians, plumbers and staff at Laamco. We highly recommend them for any heating, cooling or plumbing service or maintenance.

From the start, the installation process was riddled with problems. Rather than detailing each issue (which the company would likely try to excuse, as they did every time I raised concerns), I'm posting pictures so you can judge for yourself. I strongly recommend getting everything in writing--many verbal guarantees I received were completely disregarded. For example, instead of floor units in my kids' bedrooms, I was given ceiling units, one of which is positioned so low it practically touches my son while he sleeps. Now, as I'm finishing my basement, I had a friend who works in HVAC assess the mess Earth Tech left behind. He estimated it would take 3-4 days and cost around $3,000 to fix. He also explained the risks associated with their work: pipes joined in the middle are prone to future leaks, especially when unsupported, as stress on the joints increases the likelihood of failure. With so many joints, locating a leak would be nearly impossible. Shockingly, much of the system is held together with duct tape. While this may last through their warranty period, it's clear the entire system was designed to last just long enough to shift the responsibility of repairs onto the customer.

They installed a Heat Pump System in my Condo Unit Sometime late August of this year, 2017. The Heating portion to be used only as a back up/ secondary system. After Installation, the System was tested for AC only. As explained to me, my Primary Oil radiated Hot Water would not kick in due to the time of year. I attempt to turn the heat on, as the cold weather has set in. The primary system will not turn on (at all). I attempted to contact Ritch Tierney HVAC multiple times via phone, text, and email. They finally responded, twice. The first to say they were coming over, the second to postpone and reschedule. I haven't heard from them since. I have asked the MA Dept. Of Consumer Affairs, as well as the BBB for help with this matter, to no avail. Ritch Tierney has been given ample opportunity to make good. Not only have they not responded to my emergency request, as my family and I are using other sources for heat. My understanding is that to date they have not responded to Consumer Affairs nor BBB. I sincerely did not expect this business to not honor our contract and be just a collect ($) and retrieve establishment. If this is how the treat their customers, particularly on the very first service call, this is definitely a business that one has to stay away from!!
