I called Joyce regarding a slow leak in my main water shutoff valve. Joey and Will arrived ahead of schedule, and I showed them where the leak was. They completed the work in short order. While they were working, they noticed the smell of gas and investigated it. Using a gas sniffer, they found the leak. It was from work that another company had completed on a tankless water heater months earlier. The repair became difficult, requiring them to shut off the gas, contact their supervisor, and Liberty Utilities. Joyce completed the repair. Liberty checked the house for gas and turned the gas back on in the house. Joyce went above and beyond for this water leak. I recommend them for any service they support. read more

With my wife in rehab following a major surgery, I called Joycecool.com early in the morning to set a repair of our central AC system. The receptionist took down my info and informed me that a technician would arrive within one-half hour, which he did. Tom called my cell phone on arrival, and diagnosed the problem. He fixed the AC by adding coolant and a dye to check for leakage. The repair took one hour, and the AC was running to full capacity. The cost was reasonable, at least for this stage. We still have to wait a month to see if there is a leak which needs repair. With my wife coming home in just six days from yesterday, I was happy to have this repair complete Tom, technician, was very polite and clear about what needed to be installed. Fall is here. Which is New England talk for: winter is coming. So, when I awoke one morning only to discover that my bedroom felt more like a meat cooler, I realized my heat wasn't engaging like it should. "Time to call in the experts", I thought to myself. After frantically searching the four corners of Yelp for someone that could provide adequate environmental control intervention, I settled upon Joyce Cooling & Heating. Let me tell you, these guys are legit! Setting an appointment couldn't be easier, they can usually set you up for same-day visit (provided they aren't already booked up), and they call you a half hour prior to arrival. One minor caveat is they don't technically give you an arrival window. It's based on the number of customers they have to visit that day and order of merit also plays a factor. So basically, it's best to call in the morning like I did if you want them to visit your house the same day. Another thing I love about this place is their website. They have a chat feature, which is great for professional recluses such as myself who hate using the phone for small talk and lament people in general even more. Nah, but seriously...this is wicked convenient. The interaction was brief, as I only wanted to set up a time of arrival. The guy they sent was very knowledgeable and professional. Plus, I even learned something new about installing air filters into the furnace. Fun fact: that little arrow you see on the edge of your air filter? It's meant to point towards your furnace, I learned. The more you know, right?? Possibly the most assuring thing about the visit was that the guy didn't make me feel like an idiot once he revealed to me that I had my air filter in backwards. Now, if NOT making fun of me for being the goober that I am isn't Grade A customer service, I dunno what is! One other thing worth mentioning....they apparently offer scheduled servicing for an annual fee of, I believe, $290. I'm considering getting this because it covers one furnace and A/C cleaning per year, PLUS reduces the costs of unscheduled maintenance. For instance, I paid them $89 just for the guy to come out (he didn't charge me for the loose wire he reattached). On the annual plan, it would cost nothing extra. Sufficed to say, I dig this place's vibe and will definitely be using them for future maintenance concerns. Joyce Cooling & Heating receives 5 happy homes warm as a toaster out of 5. read more

Update below- I've been using Joyce since 2000. In Jan of 2020 Joyce replaced a water tank which they stated was fully warranted for 6years . Yesterday this water tank had a massive leak. Joyce said it was under warranty and sent me an invoice for $0 and it stated $2100 credit for the tank . Well after speaking to them this morning they are stating that was an error and I have to pay for the tank even though it is under warranty, because they are afraid that the mfg of the tank won't reimburse them . I did not pick out the tank or buy it separately, Joyce did . THEY have the contract with the tank mfg not me . I've talked with 3 different plumbers and they said that it is not standard practice to have the customer "front" the money to the plumber to make sure they get paid by the mfg. I don't know if Joyce has changed ownership or has new management but I would NEVER have expected this from them . They are not honest or trustworthy anymore . Please beware of their "warranty " - update - I spoke with manger Mitch or something like that . He talked over me , raised his voice at me , was condescending and laughed at me. I spent $4000 in 4 years for water heater service and $5000 for tanks. No discount was offered , no apologies, nothing . The people in the office were very nice . The technician was wonderful. Last word on this , Mitch said I was responsible for the warranty and tried to say I was the buyer , but these were already bought by Joyce and sitting in their warehouse and lastly if I am considered the purchaser and the warranty falls on me , why is the warranty check going to them and then to me ??? I would have to very hard pressed to return to Joyce for service. If I could hire the technician without the company I would in a heartbeat. read more

March 6, 202 I had a Joyce technician come out on Sunday to repair our Lennox furnace. The cost to just come out and diagnose the problem was $159. I do not have a problem with that, as it was considered an emergency. As part of the diagnosis, the technician removed a capacitor from the blower motor housing and determined it to be faulty. He was then able to replace it in less than 5 minutes and then waited a few minutes to see that the furnace was working well. The technician was very professional and excellent. The problem is that the company charge for the capacitor was $99, a price I thought to be very high. When I researched the capacitor online with a Lennox parts dealer, I found that the retail price of that capacitor was just $18.99. Joyce charged me more than 5 times the retail price. I spoke to a company manager at Joyce today and was told that the $99 dollars included the replacement part and installation time. If that was the case, then the company charged me $80.01 labor for a job that took less than 5 minutes to complete. Imagine, a part costs $18.99 but the installation of a few mins cost $80.01 . The total for the whole job would be an equivalent of $960 per hour. Now to me, that labor cost is outrageous. When I asked the manager what their hourly labor charge was, I was told they didn't have one. Their prices are based on the cost of a part and the average industry time to install that part. With that being said, customers would never know if they were being overcharged for a service. As another good example, I asked the technician for the cost of the blower fan motor in the event that it might fail. He looked it up and said that Joyce would charge $617 for the motor and installation. Online, I found that the retail price of the motor was $315.10 If a diagnosis determined a faulty motor, I don't think its replacement would take more than 1 hour, since I saw that the whole motor blower assembly slides out easily after removing 2 screws. If that is the case, then I would be paying $302 an hour for the labor to replace the motor, and that's if it really took a whole hour to complete the job. This too, would be outrageous. It is apparent to me that pricing a part and installation together in a bundle is an excellent way to make a huge profit. How are we as consumers not to feel overcharged or taken advantage of by a service contractor when separate information concerning both the labor times and parts are not provided in an invoice. I rarely leave reviews, but I had several bad and so-so experiences with other HVAC companies before I found Joyce. Overall, I was extremely impressed by the competence, reliability, and kindness of our Joyce tech - John N. My particular situation involved a leaking, smelly oil furnace. What I have learned is that you need/want a technician with a lot of experience with oil furnaces in order to correctly diagnose and repair issues with their various components. Previous technicians either were unable to find the problem or incorrectly repaired something which led to more issues down the line. So, I'm going to stick with Joyce for all my maintenance and repair needs and will definitely consider them when I want to look at upgrading my system. read more

Do not sign a service contract with this company if you want your equipment properly. they charge a bundle for a service contract, but failed to maintain the equipment properly. This directly led to a dangerous situation with our gas furnace leading to its replacement. And our oil furnace needing emergency repair by someone from a different company who knew what he was doing. Discovered the AC was not functioning and called Joyce Cooling & Heating. Needed a total replacement of AC, heat, condenser, etc. given the system was nearly 2 decades old. From the person who assessed the situation (Bill) and spec'ed out the work to the team that worked to do the removal and install over a day and a half in very hot weather, everyone was professional and friendly. Joyce C&H handled the permit, hired the lift to get the unit into the condo's exterior HVAC closet, scheduled and reminded about the work, and the guys arrived on time each day, protected the carpets where they had to walk on them, and were very focused on the job. Took time to explain some things I had questions on. Btw Only 4 and 5* allowed on Google Reviews. Any other is not posted or deleted somehow. Buyer Beware educational moment for me and those who will need to pay up front. First off the technician was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job on the easy fix I did not feel like taking on. My complaint is with the billing (overpriced and not accurate), payment, communication and customer service. I am only reviewing after speaking with Customer service, a manager and the technician who required payment before they could leave while I was on a work call and could not give my full attention to what was happening. They charge $89 to come out and diagnose the problem, yet give free estimates online (my fault for not trying that route). I was told there would be an $89 fee to come out but like many companies, I was under the impression that the fee would included in any repairs if I went with the company (I guess this is my error too for not hearing the sales person on the phone correctly and for assuming). Tech arrived at 1:16 PM and looked at the small fix and said it was real easy. Quick shut off of the hot water, cut pin hole leaking "T" connection and replace it and be on his way. Pictures of the Fix attached. He said he did not have the tool to fix the pipe leak which I found odd when I called to say I had a leaking pipe at a "T" connection. I said he would have to go and get a tool from another person 15 minutes away and would also grab the pieces to fix the pipe (which again I found odd because it was simple 3/4 "T" reducing to 1/2 inch elbow at the top (pretty common for supply in a truck that is coming for a leak I would assume.) I said can I get a quote.... He said sure, $508. He estimated at hour and half plus parts. Since it is an estimate, I hoped he could get it done sooner. So I asked how much an hour, he said $235!!!! Whatever.. again I factored in the $89. $235 + (2/235) = $352 + 89 = $441.50 - $508 estimate = $66.5 in parts. Again outrageous in pricing for parts because Home Depot can get you any fitting for under $10 and 10 FT of copper for $39. He asked if he could come right back after he got the required tool and I said yes. I had a work call when he arrived approximately 2:40 PM and started a stop watch out of curiosity for $235 and hour. He was done and upstairs no later than 3:20 and I stopped the timer at 40 minutes. What's the total.. $589! I say you were here for 40 minutes, the estimate was for an hour half and less than what I am being charged. He said is is all automated, its a 2 hour flat rate and I knocked it down to hour and half and then there is the $89 Fee for coming out to see what is required. Beyond irate, I say well I am going to call the office and clarify the $89 fee and say there is no way I can be flat fee charged for something that is estimated at hour and half (not to mention you were able to knock it down to hour half from 2 so knock it down to 1) and only takes door to door 40 minutes of work! He understood and said he would talk to his boss while I call the office. The CSR said the $89 was just coming to tell me I have a leak (no kidding) and there was nothing they could do about that fee. Then I say what about the 40 minutes of work being charged an hour and half of labor. He said it was a flat rate and someone can get it done in 30 minutes and others 2 hours so they charge a flat rate. A supervisor comes on the call and says, he arrived at 1:16 and was leaving at 3:20, that's 2 hours of work, then the $89 and then the parts. So I pay $89 for him to come out, he does not have tools for job, provides inaccurate estimate (my bad.... $89 is not included and Flat rates not explained to consumer properly and the estimate is actually your second appointment and actual cost, as will not change in any circumstance). The worker comes back, an hour of work instead of 1 1/2. New price $489.. On work call all this time so I feel pressured and forced to pay so I do. After call I start thinking... $489 - $89 - $235 labor rate = $165 for parts!!!!! Look at picture, one half inch elbow, 1 "T" and 3 couplings.... Disney needs to take a page from this company. read more

The staff at Joyce have always been the best. I've had them over for maintenance and cleaning before, but we just had them install a central air unit and added a second zone for the basement this year. Admittedly it was a couple years between when we had the estimate done and when we pulled the trigger to do the project, but Abe didn't miss a beat and was ready with revised quotes and documentation that we needed this year. Abe and the others in the office worked well with me when I found I'd have another contractor at my house the same day. The install team was there on time on the day we scheduled. Mitch and Jimmy on the install team were top notch and the guys asked questions on where to run the connection to the ac unit and where to run the new duct work for the basement. I was very unhappy how the work was done on my boiler. A technician came out and told me it wasn't working because I needed more oil (I had over 1/4 tank) and that should solve it. I had to pay $100 fee for an emergency oil delivery. It still did not work. They were no longer open so they sent an emergency technician out. I had to pay another service fee and the overtime rate. Terrible service. We had our heating system tuned up and 10 days later were without heat. I called their on call service at 6:30 AM and no response. I called another company and they responded I told them the system was tuned up 10 days ago. After looking at the system we were told and shown that the system had never been tuned up. The heat exchange was broken and you could see a burned area around the outside of the cells. In addition the condonsate trap was dirty as well as other parts There is no way all of this happened in 10 days. Needless to say we will never use them again and would never recommend Joyce heating and cooling to anyone. read more
