My 20-year-old Lennox AC died in the middle of a heat wave on Thursday, 7/2/26. Since it was so old I reasoned that it would be wiser to just replace it rather than have it fixed. High Ground Service Pros in Milford, NH, aka Sanford Temperature control, did a terrific job in replacing my old Lennox furnace back in March of 2024, so I called them on Friday, 7/3/26 for an estimate appointment. That culminated in their estimator/sales rep Zach arriving, as scheduled, on Monday 7/6/26. Sanford Temperature Control - HVAC tech lifts new A/C air handler box for installation. - Plumbing Near Me - Milford, New Hampshire

I was a customer of Sanford Temperature Control for many years and the service was great. Recently they "re-branded" as High Ground. Since then the service has been terrible. Almost a month ago I called just before a heat wave to report that my central AC was not working. They sent a tech the next day. After an hour's work he told me that he could not fix the AC because he did not have the necessary equipment. Huh? They sent a tech to fix the AC and didn't send him with the right equipment to fix an AC? Then he said he would "try to come back tomorrow" with the right equipment. Tomorrow came, and he didn't. So I called High Ground and was told that the appointment had been set up for a full week from that day. How did "tomorrow" turn into the end of next week? Anyway, the heat wave came and went and I did not have AC. A few techs finally showed up at the end of the next week with the equipment they said they needed and worked for an hour. Then they told me they would have to order a part and charged me a deposit of $900.00. The AC still didn't work without that part. Another heat wave came and went with no AC. I called again and asked if the ordered part had come in. I was told that the tech who worked on the AC was on vacation and would not be back until the following week. At that time they would review the account and find out what was going on with the part and the service to install it. What the... Why did he have to be present to find out what was going on with the part? Why didn't High Ground know whether or not the part came in and assign another tech while the first one was on vacation? By the time he returns, I will have gone without AC for over 3 weeks since I first reported the problem. Totally unacceptable. Do not do business with this incompetent outfit. Had sandford/high ground in my house today for my heaters service and my water heater is leaking pretty bad. I asked if he could look at the water heater tank and he said no I'm not able to because I am to busy. mind you he is already here I find this not okay and they changed there company name because of so many bad reviews read more

The website said they offer pipe bursting, they do not. I received a quote for complete excavation and pipe replacement. This is not the service I wanted a quote for and they charged me $120. They did absolutely no investigation of the problem and went off the information I gave them from another service company. read more

Had an entire HVAC system replaced AC unit and furnace 2 and 1/2 weeks later the AC unit is still short cycling and not working. After repeated calls to the company, they're saying it's a thermostat issue and we need them to install a new thermostat and actually place it in a different room even though it's been working fine for the last 15 years and of course an extra charge. They came out after the original install to check the install without actually opening any of the panels and said it was fine. However, my husband opened the panels and found that there are error codes being thrown that clearly indicate an issue with the unit itself. Do not use this company. They are terrible. Mike L performed an AC check today. Everything went fine, he was polite, efficient, and I'm sure did what he was told, which was kinda nothing. Not his fault. It's a sign of the times. He recommended that we have a thorough cleaning done as there was dirt, pollen, etc which he showed me. My question, why doesn't the call at least provide a cleaning?? Nope, that will be another $480. I'm old enough to remember when you got some type of service for a service call. And, no work order, or any kind of paperwork until he reports in to the office. They ought to at least give you $25 bucks for the use of your printer and paper. Sad. read more

Heat pump was running excessively. I had turned it off and switched to my oil boiler. When Zack came it was too iced up to test anything. Did not charge for the diagnostic call. I thought the result was fair but now we have to wait for temps to rise before anything can be done. Something malfunctioned because it ran for two years in subzero weather and much more snow. Crap happens but at least we have the oil backup. read more

We have been Sanford customers for 12 years. While their service technicians have generally been good, they have stopped giving service windows and the last straw was today when they called at 7:01 am to schedule service for our broken central ac, and despite my calling twice, no one was here by 4:30 pm. We are also members of their service contract ($30/month) which is supposed to give discounts and scheduling priority. I finally called another HVAC company who was willing to come out tomorrow. At 4:55pm I called Sanford and cancelled the appointment. 5 minutes later a technician called and said he could come out. No thanks. They kept me waiting for 10 hours without any service windows, stated they were busy with "emergencies" (never mind I am 65 with leukemia and I don't do well in the extreme heat so I guess a sudden breakdown of our central air is less emergent than other peoples problems), all the while taking $30/month from me for 12 years. I am done with being overcharged and treated like I do not count. I would strongly suggest people look elsewhere than Sanford. read more

Earlier this summer I had identified a problem with my HVAC system (blower motor) and reached out to Sanford. Took my call off hours and scheduled a visit to assess and get me up and running. First of all, the technician they sent over could not have been more professional and friendly. Easy to talk to and easy to understand. Frankly, I would only hope that someone with his skills and attitude represent my business. On March 26th, I reached out to Sanford Temperature Control to cap some pipes in our kitchen to prepare for cabinet installation. I also asked them to prepare the pipes in the bathroom to receive a vanity. They came right away ($120) and after looking at the projects, we agreed they would come back the next day to be able to do all the work in one shot. The original quote was for $500. The second quote was $3,300 to install the vanity with a sink top ($1,957.96) and install a sink in a workroom ($1,371.20). I wasn't happy with the price, but I agreed because we needed the work done. (The original $500 quote was removed.) However, when I went to pay the bill, I was charged $507.49 for a 10-foot section of 1/2 inch copper pipe (which I already had available from the original sink if they had asked). The pipe costs $26.42 at Home Depot. They used about 5 feet of pipe and took the leftover with them. Now, the vanity was a challenge because the piping had to be moved and a hole needed to be cut in the back of the vanity; however, the workroom sink was a basic sink. I also wanted them to install our dishwasher but that would have been an extra $600+. I paid the bill, but I had to ask several times for an invoice. (The technician explains the bill verbally and has you sign on their tablet, but you never see it in writing until they send an email. My email was blank.) I also had to call to have a leak in the vanity repaired. I am disgusted by the rates Sanford charges and the way an additional $500 was added to the bill for a pipe I could have provided to them. I had planned to use Sanford for several upcoming tasks including draining my hot water heater, servicing my mini-splits and heater, and relocating a mini-split condenser. Shortly after a recent thunderstorm I noticed my central air wasn't working anymore. I called Sanford around 7pm, got an appointment for the next day. Not only were they able to see me quickly, they figured out the problem quickly and replaced the missing part within an hour of their arrival! My home was cool again in way less time than I expected. Brett and another worker arrived with some heavy equipment to clean all of the ductwork in our condo. They were very professional and efficiently carried the heavy vacuum machine through 3 floors, cleaning all of the registers in each room. This included moving some furniture and carefully replacing it. They even cleaned the main lines in the basement. I believe we got a good value for the amount of work they did. Last year, I requested a tune up/check up on our furnace. Their technician installed an expensive add-on control unit to my furnace I didn't request, and didn't notify me until he'd already installed it, resulting in a bill three times higher than I expected. I have a Fujitsu mini split system which they originally installed in 2012 with 3 inside units. They have serviced this unit multiple times since. Very unhappy with the last repair which cost me $1200 for a pipe to be sealed, a wire to be taped and the system to be recharged. It was an easy fix. I was shocked at the price, but he was here, the unit was apart, and they have always serviced it since installed. I called later and spoke to the service manager. He told me they are a premium company and charge premium prices. Not the answer I wanted to hear. This is the last time I will have them service my system. I'm done. read more

It was very cold, problems only seem to happen under these conditions. I was concerned for my water pipes etc. when my furnace stopped working. I called two local heating and cooling companies for my propane furnace repair. I was called back by one and told, they were short handed. They could not come out to look at my problem. The second place said they were booked and could possibly make it the next day. Again very cold out and fear of freezing. I called Sanford expecting same thing. Happily was told they would be there today and would trouble shoot problem. Two hours later, I received a call from Brett the technician. He arrived, tested my furnace components, and replaced bad sensor. Heat was on. Became a Sanford Customer a long time ago when my current Heating Company could not fix my Home Heating System, even though that Heating Company did not know what was wrong with my Heating System they still charged me full price....Sanford came out and had no problem diagnosing my Heating problem, have been a customer every since. In November 2020 my Home Heating System finally broke down after 28 years. Sanford quickly came out and installed a new Home Heating System, no matter who comes out they are always professional and very pleasant to deal with. I wish I had the workers names so I could thank them for being so professional and friendly, they worked hard all day and did not leave till the job was done. Outrageous pricing. Had our oil furnace serviced and he found three minor things wrong- the most urgent was a gasket which needed to be replaced in the flue / quoted 580 dollars. Seriously? and 10 feet of copper pipe a bit oxidized on the outside. He suggested replacing it. The quote? $865. My husband nearly had a coronary. We are now waiting for three other companies to give us estimates. We have found Sanford to be terribly expensive in the past, and we don't even trust them enough to think these jobs really need doing. And at that rate we will surely find a better quote somewhere else. Unless the world has gone completely insane. These reviews show lots of people are saying they're highly priced. This is the place to call when you need help! On an 80 degree Friday afternoon we found out that our A/C had stopped working. The first company we called couldn't get us in until the following Thursday (with many 90 degree days to follow). We fortunately stumbled upon Sanford, called after 4:30pm on a Friday and found Stacey to be amazingly helpful. She could have someone to our house within 45 minutes (did I mention it was a Friday after 4:30). Brian arrived and within a snap of your fingers had the problem fixed. He was professional, polite and most importantly he FIXED the problem. If you need help with cooling or heating, this is the place to call. Job well done in the end.] _______________________________ A week ago Sanford came by to repair my water heater. When they arrived I provided them with the technicians repair guide that I was able to find online. I outlined what the codes meant in case they unfamiliar with my system and to hopefully be of help. They left and said that I needed a new control unit for $698, (I found online for $207 - exact match and not one - many. I get that they need to make money on parts, but 300%?), as the gas valve was stuck open. A few days later they came back to repair on a Friday, only to discover that another issue (one that I had circled on the tech page to begin with - a temp vent limit switch) was stuck closed and needed to be replaced. However they told my wife that they would call over the weekend with an update. No word over the weekend, not Monday - by Tuesday (I'm just shocked now) I called in the afternoon and asked what was up. "Ummm, the part isn't in yet, hopefully tomorrow - ok,?" said with complete absence of concern or empathy. So on the 6th day they of waiting they said ok? No...not ok. But what am I to do, but politely thank them. Well they called today, Wednesday, 7 days after they first came to fix it and couldn't and said "good news part is in." I'm thinking great, tomorrow is Thanksgiving! "How does Monday at 8 AM work for you,?" again with zero personality. I could have screamed, but just laughed and said ok. So Sanford, that would be 13 days, yes 13 days until a hopefully repaired system, and she spoke to me like everything was fine. No apologies, no sense of emergency. I was waiting for "would you like fries with that." I again was polite and said thank you. I printed out the installation guide for them just in case they need it - something tells me they might. Thanks to law regarding gas furnaces here in NH - I can't touch it, otherwise I'd have done in 30 minutes. It's November in NH, please take your time my wife and kids are just fine, thank you for asking. I would provide a 'zero star' or a 'minus,' but is not an option. Simply at a loss for words. If I ran that office and I learned that this happened, (1) someone would get fired (2) I would refund the customer. However, considering the history so far, I'm actually expecting another bill. May the Lord be with the tech should he hand me another bill. I'll gladly and finally take an apology however. I simply cannot remember writing a negative review before, however I would hate to learn of this happening to anyone else. Not impressed. These guys are pretty responsive when you first call them. A bit aggressive on the upsell--they really want you to sign up for their membership program, which is $10/mo. They charge $60 to come out, so if you need plumbing or HVAC work done twice a year or more, it seems like a good deal. But then you discover that they do not actually want to come out for small ticket jobs--the kind that you would call a regular plumber to do. They actually refused to come out to fix some burst pipes for me and fix a Sillcock valve, saying that they don't do that kind of stuff. And some of the work they did do when they came out was half-assed. For example, instead of replacing a corroded drain cap, they cut that part of the pipe out. The good news is that canceling the membership was relatively painless and worked the first time. But I do not think I would recommend them to anyone who is actually looking for a plumber. read more

We had a heating system installed yesterday and a cooling system will be installed in the coming weeks. ZACH LEWIS was very helpful and knowledgeable in making sure we got the systems that were right for us. There were 3 gentleman that came to the house to install the heating unit, all were professional, hardworking, and respectful of property. Then KYLE GANKO came back the next day to set up the electrical component and programed the system to meet our needs. When the job was finished my husband was on a conference call. Had this company in the past with no problems but this time around has been a nightmare. It all started when we had them clean our miller mobile home hot air furnace. They cleaned it and said the furnace had a bad heat exchanger and the furnace would have to be replaced. They red tagged it and shut it down. Winter was upon us so I had them install a new Miller hot air furnace at a cost of $6,168.00. It was too late but found out I could have gotten it from the same company I buy oil from for $2,800,00 installed. When you purchase a new furnace you get free duct cleaning, they came to clean our air ducts with equipment that barley functioned, they constantly had to fool with it and had duct tape holding it together. The unit looks like a big vacuum cleaner but with a spinning attachment on the end. It goes down one register and they feed it the other end of the house. They didn't bother covering any registers so when that twirling brush went by the registers dust was pushed out all over the house. Sure it sucked out as it was going but not all the dust. You also get a free furnace cleaning with a new furnace, they came to clean my new furnace and I believe it ran better before they cleaned it. All the technician wanted to do was sell me a service plan. Why do I need a service plan on a new furnace unless they don't stand behind what they sell. After he finished the office called and wanted to know if everything was alright and asked if the technician offered me the service plan. All I can say is if you need a new furnace shop around and get estimates. If they were selling cars that sell for $25,000.00 they would charge you $50,000.00 and give you a free oil change. My central air wasn't working, I didn't know who to call. I found a flyer they mailed to us when we bought the house. The woman on the phone was so nice and helpful, she tried getting someone out that day. When she couldn't she called me right back to reschedule for first thing the next morning. Sanford wanted to charge me $900 to replace the gas valve on my hot water heater. I told him I could get a new hot water heater for that. He quoted me $2,000 to install a new one. I called Integrity Mechanical and they charged me less than $1000 to install a new water heater. Sanford way overcharges. read more
