This place made me wait and then sent the dumbest technician I have ever met. I had to operate his tablet for him and repeatedly point out that the information he was looking for wasn't on the unit's label while he constantly told me he wasn't very familiar with Lennox systems, even though I called them because they are a Lennox dealer. I ended up having to help him through checking everything. I eventually got an "estimate" that included overpriced repairs that cost as much as replacing the unit. It had a digital "signature" on it that just was the tech writing NA. I never actually signed anything. Nothing they sent me mentioned anything about late fees, but considering I was done with this company and couldn't get them on the phone reliably to pay I mailed a check. The check was never cashed, and I tried calling a couple times over the last year. Now almost a year later they email me telling me I have a years' worth of late fees because they never cashed the check. I finally was able to call during the day (not always easy for me). I got a person who again told me the person I needed had already left for the day. I told them if they wanted to be paid they needed to take the card over the phone right now. She agreed. Then told me the current balance. I refused to pay the late fees and told them I would authorize only the original balance. She put me on hold while she checked and then blind transferred me. The person answered like they had no idea who I was. I explained the situation again (very frustrating) and he knew exactly who I was and already had the information. He stated they have several ways to pay, except apparently those ways aren't check since I tried that. And none of the mailed "invoices" I received provide any payment information, terms and conditions, or anything but the current balance and how many days late it was. Just "Past Due - Please Remit" and an address along with a return envelope. But I had already tried that. This person claimed to be willing to take the payment, but when I rejected the late fees he claimed he needed to investigate and would get back to me. I told him I am not available during the day and he scoffed at me. I gave him one final chance to accept the payment without late fees right then or I was going to stop even attempting to pay as my life doesn't revolve around a waste of time diagnostic service with a technician that didn't know what they were doing. It shouldn't be this hard to pay them. The late fees should have never existed if they just cashed the check I sent or had ever provided me with payment instructions. other than "Please Remit", a return envelope, and an address. I will never use these people again. Everything with them is a clown show. Can't get straight answers, can't get things properly diagnosed. Can't get trained people. Can't even pay their bill. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! read more

Is anyone else having problems with MacFarlane Energy of Dedham, Ma? I've been a customer for many, many years and always paid my bills before they were due. They've been great.. up until recently, when they started advertising on TV! I'm on Automatic Delivery and I noticed that my Oil Tank Levels have gotten quite low before they've come to fill the tank the last couple of months. This month it's even worse! I called them on Thursday because my tank was showing less than 1/8 Tank. I was worried about running out of oil and my pipes freezing in this extremely cold weather. They assured me I'd have oil delivered by Saturday. It never happened! Currently, my oil tank gauge is reading "Empty"! I called again today, Saturday Afternoon at 3:30 pm. I got the answering service who told me the office was closed but that a service technician would call me back. It is now 7:40 PM and I still haven't heard back from them. A call back would be nice, so that I can get an update and/or if I need to call someone else to deliver fuel! Not knowing is the worst part! My anxiety is Over the Top right now because running out of oil and losing my heat (as well as damage to my heating system) is just hours away because of their INCOMPETENCE! This is totally UNACCEPTABLE & UNNECESSARY! read more

13 November 2025 A fuel delivery issue took place that needed to be rectified. George Fernandez, a MacFarlane Oil service technician, came out to my home and assessed the situation. He explained what work would be done in order to fix the problem . Also what steps would be taken that day in order to fix the problem. A follow up service call for the next day would complete the issue at hand. The whole MacFarland team was on top of the situation and implemented a plan of steps to remedy the problem. This will be my first time writing a review as well as giving a one-star rating. Sorry but I just wanted to write my experience with this company for other people to know. I have been having issue since I started with them but those are minor issues that I can forget and let it go. But this recent one, I just cannot. I signed up for automatic delivery to give me less stress. Last week, I noticed my oil is getting low so I called them, they told me that they will fill it up "in a couple of days." One week later, they still have not come. Right now, I am only worried that my oil will run out especially we are getting another extremely cold weather in the next few days. MacFarlane - please... be a human being with conscience and deliver the oil. I live with my 2 elderly parents who really need the whole house to be warm and comfortable, and I really don't want my heating system to get damaged. If you feel like I am not a worthy customer (because I am paying my bills on time and in full amount), then just let me know, I can go find some other company who will want to do business with me. read more

Had air conditioning serviced by Paul Carr last week on one of the very hot days. I called in the morning and he was there a few hours later. Found the problem quickly and replaced the part. AC back on and very much appreciated. Definitely recommend them. read more

Good and bad. MacFarlane installed my central AC about 10 years ago. Since then I have used them for annual maintenance on both the AC and gas hot-air heating. I get the maintenance done to be certain that I will always have heat and AC when I need it. It's important because I'm elderly. Everything was fine until last year. Then, first time I turned on my heat in the Fall, no heat came from the vent - even though MacFarlane had serviced it only four months before. Something was broken. MacFarlane repaired it - after I spent three days without heat - waiting for them to get a part. Then, MacFarlane did my usual annual maintenance last week. The service person was due between 9 and noon, but he didn't show up until 1pm. Annoying. He did the maintenance but never turned on the heat or the AC. It was warm and I didn't need either heat or AC for a few days. Then a cool morning on the weekend led me to turn on the heat. No heat came from my heating vent. It was the weekend so I had no heat until Monday because MacFarlane is only open weekdays. Monday a MacFarlane service person came out. The problem was a hose that was disconnected during maintenance. The service person re-connected it and I have heat and AC again. Good, but the hose should never have been left disconnected in the first place. There are many companies that provide heating and AC maintenance. Sorry MacFarlane, but I plan to switch to one of them next Spring because your maintenance quality is bad and I'm disgusted. read more

The two technicians spent the morning installing a new condenser and coil, and then spent a good deal of time troubleshooting a tricky wiring issue because of our old, funky wires. But they were persistent and figured it out and stayed really collaborative and happy the whole time. Great job. read more

We scheduled an oil burner tuneup with Dunn Oil, a sweet, local, family-owned company that got taken over by the MacFarlane Energy corporate behemoth. What a surprise when a cheerful young lady named Cheryl Winchester showed up to do the work. Cheryl said she'd be there for about an hour and a half, during which I observed her carrying around a pipe wrench the size of a tree limb like it was nothing. She finished up what was likely very dirty work (you can imagine mucking around inside an oil burner that hasn't been cleaned in two years) but left the place spotless. Highly recommend! read more

Hi, if you check my reviews you'll see that I'm not someone who only posts negative reviews. I actually do the opposite. I'm shocked by the good reviews on here but now I see they are people's only reviews they've ever given which is always telling. We had MacFarlane come out to look at our ductless AC unit. It took them two visits and they charged me $475 to tell me that my unit is completely corroded and I needed to replace the whole thing. I called to ask the service billing department about this and I can't remember the last time someone spoke to me so rudely. read more
