Over the course of a couple of years, I've encountered multiple incidents that seem to point to deliberate sabotage of my heating and cooling system. I also have PROOF in my pictures. I'm somewhat handy, and if I was not, I would have been taken advantage of even more. Here's my story: **Incident 1:** It all started when my AC unit broke down during a heatwave. I had a newborn at home, so I needed help fast. Despite being on the pricier side ($500 for the visit), they were the only ones available quickly. The technician "fixed" the issue and tried hard to sell me a brand-new unit--despite the fact that my current one was still functioning. I brushed it off as a sales tactic. However, when the weather turned cold, I realized my **heat wasn't working**. I'm a bit handy, so I took a panel off to inspect the unit, and what do I find? The **gas line had been turned off at the panel**! It's important to note that the heater worked just fine before this service, so the only possible culprit was the technician. Had I not caught this myself, I would have likely been convinced that the entire system needed replacing--costing me even more money. **Incident 2:** Later, I did end up getting a new HVAC system (from a different company). However, my diverters (which control airflow) stopped working, blowing a fuse. Once again, no one else was available, so I had to call Alborz again. I was skeptical after last time, but thought maybe it was possibly an accident... This time, I was on high alert and watched him closely. He fiddled around and had me go check the thermostat downstairs while he "worked on the unit." Reluctantly, I complied. Sure enough, when summer arrived, **the AC stopped working again**. **Proof of Sabotage:** After some investigation, I discovered the technician **deliberately disconnected a wire** in my unit, which is why the AC wasn't working. I have photographic proof showing the disconnected wire and the work area, demonstrating this malicious action. --- **Final Warning:** It's clear to me this company has a pattern of **sabotaging equipment to generate more business**. Update: the owner called me and was able to come to a fair resolution regarding the labor billed. ---- My mini-split was not cooling on first heat wave on summer 2022. I called them and they came out in 3 days. They said the issue was a refrigerant leak, and that they would refill refrigerant now to get it cooling and provide me an estimate to find the leak. Other companies were charging lower rates but this company could come same week so I said OK. I received a bill for $400 of refrigerant for 5lbs and $500 for 3 hours of labor. However the technician was only at the property for 1 hour. My understanding was that the $175 service fee I already paid covered the first hour of labor but they said it only covered the first 30 minutes. They explained that they partially made a billing mistake and also billed me for all of the driver's time to drive to my location (which I understood was included in the service fee). My expectation was also that parts and materials would be billed at cost but this was not the case. For example a quick google search shows 10lbs of R410A refrigerant can be bought for $400 (probably even cheaper at wholesale rates) and they sold me 5lbs for $400. Of course I am unable to buy the refrigerant myself as it requires a license. They came out quickly and got my ac cooling again quickly but I left the review at 4 stars because have concerns about their billing and communication practices. read more

My AC broke and it was very hot out. For an extra emergency fee (understandable) they were able to send someone first thing on a Sunday morning. The technician had to replace the pump and then he checked the system. I was very grateful for the quick response time and efficiency. I didn't give 5 stars because they did make a couple of errors with my bill and charged me twice for the emergency/diagnosis fee. Also, they didn't add the numbers correctly and threw in an extra $10. This is not a lot of money, but this kind of error shouldn't happen. Also, while the worker was here for 90min they also charged me for the time that he commuted to bring it up to 2 hrs. They corrected the extra charge for the emergency/diagnosis fee, but I don't think this mistake was very professional and I am glad I caught it. Just a lot of mistakes and hidden fees that people should be aware of when making an appointment and should be checked for in the invoice. read more

I hire this company a few years ago to reroute the output tube from my HVAC unit to the kitchen sink. He had to drill some holes in the back of some of my kitchen cabinets in order to get the tube to the sink. While moving my stove he noticed there was a small space between electric cable and the wall. I mentioned I was having mice problems so he was nice enough to use some silicone foam to seal up the small openings. The water being discharged from the HVAC unit flows to the kitchen sink pipe as it should and I no longer had a mice problem after that. read more

Our baseboard hot water heat was not working after the coldest day of the year (so far). I saw the great reviews on Yelp & reached out. They lived up the hype. Sam & Francisco were here by noon & had replaced our failed circulator pump within an hour. Jamie coordinated everything from the timing to the billing through text, which was great. She gave us 10 minutes before they arrived & was accurate with the timing. Sam & Francisco answered all our questions (how to tell when the circulator pump fails, other issues they fixed during the 1 hour included adjusting the baseboards & fixing the loose aquastat). One of my AC zones stopped working during a heat wave and Alborz was quick to respond and good communication. Workers were pleasant and efficient and definitely not trying to pad the bill (paying hourly rate). There was a small hiccup in the repair and they came back almost immediately to remedy it. Owner is reachable by cell and trying to earn an honest living by working hard. Only weird thing is they invoice you so you don't know final bill for a day or two (you can guess labor unknown is parts cost). Let me tell you something--these guys are the REAL DEAL. Professional, prompt, polite, timely...oh and they know exactly what they are doing. Story: Heat goes out on Thanksgiving, of all days. They show up the morning after thanksgiving, fix the heater (had to replace multiple parts) perfectly. A month later, the heat goes out again. A quick text and they are at the place in a matter of hours. This time, it was entirely our fault--we let the oil tank run low and little did we know there was air in the tank. Well, this is something the oil company couldn't help us with but Sam from Alborz SAVED THE DAY. Sam is fabulous. Alborz is the only HVAC and plumbing company you will ever need in Somerville, MA (or other Boston jurisdictions). I trust them completely. As a first time customer, they responded to an emergency leak (over Xmas week) within hours and were able to provide a short-term and then a long term solution. When the hot water recently stopped working (and the water turned yellow), Sam immediately diagnosed the problem and replaced the water heater promptly and reasonably. His technicians flushed out all the pipes, sent videos of the work and was very reassuring that everything would work. No problems at all. Sam's team also fixed a water pressure problem, replaced a faulty showerhead and sent videos of the work--showing all the settings on the showerhead and full water pressure for the first time since we moved to the condo! I had difficulty with my AC unit not venting out cold air and whistling. When they arrived, they were friendly and said that there was low coolant in the system. After they refilled the coolant, they claimed the issue had been fixed. However, it was obvious that the AC was still not venting cold air and nothing had changed. I put my hand up to the vent and it was clear that it was not flowing properly. The technician claimed that it would be resolved within a half hour, and unfortunately I said okay and they left. Nothing changed after a half hour. After paying the bill, I reached back out to them and said that the issue was not resolved. They claimed that they would ask the technician and then never responded. After a few more days without AC, I discovered that the vent dampener was damaged and was the part that needed to be replaced - nothing about the coolant. Since Alborz corp ignored my concerns that cold air was not flowing and left the job despite me saying that there was still a problem, I do not recommend them. read more

Called Sam and left a voicemail. He call me back within 2-3 hours. For reference, none of the other two shops I left messages with returned my calls. Sam was able to swing by the house that afternoon, it was after 5pm and he just made it clear that this is considered overtime but I was OK since I needed the heat back on asap. Sam ordered the part and was supposed to have and fix the problem the next day. Called me the next day that the part will take one more day. I insistent that we really need to fix the issue since we were headed towards a couple of 30'F night. He called me back in a couple of hours to tell me he had found the part and can fix that day. I scheduled an appointment to receive a quote to install mini splits this past spring and no one showed up twice. On the third try, Sam was so late that I reached back out to the office to ask him not to come. He finally showed up as I was talking to the receptionist. While performing the walkthrough of my place, he continually asked me questions about what other contractors told me and disagreed with their assessments, but he did not provide his own opinion even when pressed. We were desperate because our daughter's central A/C broke in her new condo, it's so hot in August and she has a medical condition that makes heat very dangerous for her. They were fully booked but moved things around to fit us in and were out to service her A/C within an hour. Sam, the owner, came with his assistant and they could not have been nicer. Sam was very honest and you could tell he took great pride in his work. He fixed the AC right away, installed a new, better thermostat that my daughter can control from her phone, installed an additional air conditioner in my daughters bedroom just in case there's ever a problem again, changed the filter and got her a/c back and running in no time. Our A/C was damaged by construction workers, on a Friday afternoon, just before they finished work at the building. They knew what happened, but never told anything and left us with no working A/C in the middle of a heat wave (90+). Saturday morning, after a lot of unanswered calls, voicemails or "don't have time", we only found one single guy that agreed to come. Which he did, the next day (Sunday morning), but left after 15 minutes because it seemed like something he couldn't figure out without talking to the A/C manufacturer. And gone he was to this day... Alborz was the first company that followed up to our messages, although next day - on a Sunday. We were lucky enough to have a next day morning appointment. The tech came on time, was very polite, and it only took him 5 minutes to find the issue: 2 holes in the pipe - freon leaks. 2.5 hours later our A/C was working again.
