Jason was responsive and patient from when I first reached out for an appointment. I would get quick responses even when it was just an inquiry. He came on time, had shoe slips (something I really appreciated), and was very efficient and detailed with the job. He even took the time to explain all the numbers to me! You can tell Jason really cares about his customers from how he communicates all the little details. His price is also very reasonable! I plan to use him for my future hvac work and highly recommend him to others. read more

Jason serviced my 22 year old furnace. He was great and explained everything involving the different parts that would most likely need to be replaced within the next year or so. He also gave an estimate for the parts and for a new unit. read more

I am posting this review not to get money back or to complain. I just don't anyone to be caught off guard like I was. I called this company for a diagnostic on my mini split AC that wasn't cold enough. They told me it would cost $140 for the test and $52 per pound of freon. They said they can't give me an exact price until they see the unit and see what "repair" is needed. At the end of the job, I was charged an additional $120 for labor even though there was no repair needed. They said the labor was to pump the freon, It took 10 minutes, but they said they have to charge a 1-hour labor minimum which was $120. I wasn't told about this fee before, so I had to pay whatever they charged at the end. So I basically got charged $172 for 1 pound of freon. I felt this was unfair and not honest business practice. read more

I met Jason, after an AC failure on of the hottest days of Summer. Jason contacted me promptly, provided all the details and was upfront about everything including his service fees. He was at my place at promised, and got to work. He explained everything as he motored on and worked the problem. He came fully prepared with every possible part monitor upgrade and suggested only what was required. He was very pleasant to work with and was very easy to talk with. I would definitely recommend using Donovan Mechanical and request for Jason if he is available. read more

I've been a customer of Jason's for two years. He repaired our tenant's boiler twice during the deep freezes of '22 and '23. It cost us upwards of $6000, which was a lot for us, but I never haggled because we had no choice, and I appreciated his responsiveness at the time. He has a cheeky attitude that can tip over into disrespectful. One example, he got irate at me for not responding to a text when he arrived, after I had specifically asked him to ring the doorbell. This is relevant later. He has a way about him that makes me uneasy, like a guy who jokes around but is about to blow a fuse. On the second repair visit this past February, I asked him to also quote replacing the hot water tank, which still works but is approaching end of life. He texted me a quote in March, and in June I said we'd like to move forward. He said he had to requote, and I had no issue with that. But it's been like pulling teeth ever since. The texts speak for themselves, attached to this review. This is the part that tells me I'm done with him (typos are his): "I'm very busy with a.C issues at the moment and by the way I gave other customers that' have spent 5x more money then you have so I would not pull that card feel free to call a plumber thanks" I don't care how busy or lucrative you are -- you don't communicate with an existing customer this way. And I've been pretty polite and patient this whole time, as you can see in my texts -- and we're talking six months since my first inquiry! Apparently, if you're less than a $30K customer, be prepared for unresponsiveness combined with major attitude. Jason doesn't need your business. Good for him! Prompt service above and beyond expectations, and for plumbing work as well AC service with parts seemed reasonably priced. I definitely will try to use him again if he's available. read more

Jason is very responsive and straightforward. He always answers my calls immediately and tell me upfront what type of service and charge I should expect. He is busy and might not have immediate availability, but he is willing to work around with my schedule and tries to squeeze me in within a few days. Compared to a lot of contractors I contacted who are so hard to schedule or flaky, Jason is doing a decent job in scheduling and keeping the appointment. On the day of job, Jason came to my apartment and made a diagnosis for my HVAC issue. My HVAC is ancient, complicated and rare. He spent the time discussing with me the possible issues and solutions. In the end, he told me that since he is not specialized in this area, he would recommend me to find a plumber to do this job. He spent 30 min at my place but at the end, he said he wouldn't charge me anything as he couldn't take the repair job. I have interacted with some contractors who came before without proper tools, spent the same amount of time and achieved a wrong diagnosis, but still charged me hundreds of dollars. I have to say that Jason is such an honest and pleasant person to work with. Although my issue was not solved which I know it's not his fault, I truly appreciate his honesty, patience and kindness. I will come back to him in the future if I have other HVAC issues. read more

Extremely rude and avoid at all cost. I called Donovan to fix a boiler at a property I owned. He said he would show up on a Monday, so I asked my tenant to wait for him. The day came he didn't show up. The next day, I called, and here is the conversation: "Me: Hi, I'm calling about xAddressx Donovan: I didn't install the builder, I don't owe you anything". Then immediately Donovan hanged up. Extremely unprofessional, rude, and unreliable. Avoid at all cost! read more

$140 just to come to look at the issue seems like a clear money grab. Do yourself a favor and contact one of the hundred other contractors that will come at least look at it for free. I found 6 others in one search on yelp. read more

Jason is fantastic. Super professional, great quality, good advice, and above all, reasonable prices. I have been working with him since 2018 and have not been disappointed. He's just a good person and his work shows it. I'm very happy and will call on him again in times of need. read more

Asked them to come out to do a check up. I was in a meeting (I work from home) and didn't hear the doorbell or see the text. 8 minutes later (and without receiving a phone call that they were here) I get a really rude text message that I had wasted their time and never call them again. I totally get that ideally I should have heard the doorbell and seen the text, but I think a simple call would have solved this problem and the rude text message follow up was not needed. read more

Donovan Mechanical - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me

I can't believe I forgot to review Donovan Mechanical! I cannot say enough good things about Jason. He has been a godsend. I have had the misfortune of dealing with some of the most incompetent, dishonest, unprofessional, unresponsive (insert every negative adjective) companies around this area. Enter Jason, who surprisingly responded to my rambling phone call quickly. I say surprisingly bc I was so frustrated and so frantic at that point, I surely sounded like a complete lunatic. However, being stuck without air conditioning during a heatwave for weeks and sweating indoors at 94 degrees is not my idea of fun. I booked it to my other place in Maine while communicating with Jason via email. Long story long, Jason diagnosed the problem, came up with a quote that was in line with what everyone else in my condo complex had been paying to replace our original 30+ year old units, coordinated with the building superintendent to come by to replace/install and arranged to have a carpenter do some of the work to get to the access panel inside my condo. He handled all of this seamlessly while I was in Maine and communicated with me every step of the way. I returned from Maine on the day work was wrapping up and they did a wonderful job keeping everything clean. As a matter of fact, the first time I saw Jason, he was literally on his hands and knees wiping my floor. Wth!?! He is the ultimate professional and perfectionist. Jason is the real deal people! Needless to say, I have already recommended him and John (the carpenter) to a friend of mine. I have also given their information to another neighbor in the building in case she has any problems in the future. The problem with living in a building like this is that particular companies become de facto companies. I have no idea why we still use our HVAC company. They must be giving someone here kickbacks and happy endings. read more

I called and asked by accident if this was Donavon Mitchell and then he hung up on me. I texted and explained I accidentally called him Donavon Mitchell bc he is an NBA player I follow. He didn't reply. I've called him 5 times since and no reply. Overall just very rude and terrible experience even trying to get a quote. I'll update this review if I end up having a better experience, but right now my experience with him has been below par. read more

Jason, the owner of Donovan Mechanical came out to our house this morning to evaluate our HVAC system and we are grateful to have found his services on Yelp. Jason was super knowledgeable, professional and overall pleasant to work with. He was prompt in responding to our request for a quote (within 20 minutes on a Sunday!) and was able to guide us in the right direction of what we needed to get done at our new house to properly update our HVAC system. Would recommend him to anyone seeking help with their HVAC and look forward to working with this again. read more

We contacted Donovan's looking for last minute support for the HVAC unit in our new home. Jason answered the phone right away and was able to fit us in for an appointment in just 2 days. Jason is incredible. He's responsive, diligent in his work, and friendly. He was able to fix our immediate issue, but also gave us input on what the bigger issue may be down the road. We definitely plan on using him moving forward for regular service and maintenance. Additionally he shows up & works with a mask which is important to us during this time. read more

I've used Jason repeatedly over the past five years at three different properties (each with their own aging HVAC / boiler systems) - over that time he's proven to be incredibly responsive, reliable, knowledgeable, and fair with his service charges. He's earned "go-to" status in my book - wouldn't think of calling anyone else for our HVAC needs. read more

Rick Enwright from Donovan Mechanical came out and fixed a bunch of rusted hvac pipes and vents in our basement. He was prompt and pleasant, the work was great, the price was reasonable, and I'm hoping to hire him again. read more

I was looking to get a quote for a mini split. I used Yelps portal. They told me they were too busy to help. I said I was in no rush and could wait to have it installed for 6 months. They asked where I was located which is Hyde Park and then said they would not service my property. Very disappointing when you want to give someone money and work with them on their schedules and they don't care. read more

I have lived in South Boston for over 15 years and have had ongoing issues with a cheap HVAC system installed at the time of our renovation in 2004. I found Jason and Donovan Mechanical on Yelp and he was great. Very responsive knowledgeable and professional. He installed two new furnaces and ac compressors and got the system running efficiently. I'd highly recommend him for any of your HVAC issues! read more

Jason was great. Arrived on time. A previous company had indicated I needed a completely new furnace but Jason was able to get the parts needed for repair. Contacted them for work and they said 6/17 was available. I instantly said it was fine and wanted to know more of their pricing and how they charge. I wanted to know why it is an extra 6 days and was told that the appointment was never confirmed. Obviously there was miscommunication and was trying to explain i was trying to confirm the date. I was willing to wait the extra 6 days but was basically told tough luck and take my business else where read more

Shame on me for not posting a review sooner. Jason at Donovan Mechanical has done a number of jobs over several years and has always done a great job. Communicates well, is very reliable and responsive. This am messaged him that our AC was down and house was 95 degrees. Expecting that because of the heat he would not get to me for a couple days at earliest. 3 hours later it was fixed. read more

When the fan in our new-to-us central air system stopped running, I turned to Yelp to find someone trustworthy to give it a look. I'm glad I came across Jason because his call was the only call I had to make. Upon picking up right away and hearing the symptoms, Jason suggested I turn off the system immediately to prevent damage, gave a clear overview of his pricing, and amazingly told me he could come by in a few hours. Jason had a diagnosis within just a few minutes as well as a repair shortly after. Fortunately it was just a bad capacitor, and Jason had extras on-hand, rather than the motor which I have learned is now rare and expensive. While onsite, Jason also repaired some leaky ductwork, pointed out that the thermostat was inaccurate, and thoroughly explained what kind of maintenance the system would need over the next season or two. Given the great experience, I would definitely call Jason again! read more

I spent $450 with another local 5-star HVAC company only to be told that they couldn't find the issue and that I needed to tear down interior walls to replace pipework. They left me high and dry in 95F. Jason found the issue, fixed it and had cold air blowing again in 2 hours. I will never use another HVAC company again. read more

Heating went out. It's been cold, so I called around first thing in the morning. Jason came up as #1, so I called him and he called back pretty quickly. I really appreciated his willingness to make changes to come out the same day. So by noon, heating is back on. Appreciated his explanation and educating me on what went wrong and what he's going to fix. In the end, nothing beats his quick response especially when the temperature is going south. Highly recommend him 1/21/2019: Heat out again with our old HVAC on one of the coldest nights (8:30 pm) this winter at 1*F. Jason makes it out at 10 pm and got it fixed! I called Donovan Mechanical when my 41-year-old gas boiler stopped working. Jason got back to me within the hour and was able to fit me in two hours later. My house was 44 degrees so I really appreciated the quick response and that he was able to get to my house that day. When he arrived, I was already prepared to be told that my old boiler needed to be replaced. However, after testing out several connection points to the thermostat and evaluating the boiler, he found that it was a connection point that just needed tightening up, along with a thermocoupler that was old and needed to be replaced. The cost was minimal and Jason also swapped out my old programmable thermostat with the new one I had purchased. Jason is amazing! Great personality--very professional, knowledgeable and efficient. He explained what he recommended before he did it, letting me know what the cost would be, and also gave me alternatives. It was an excellent experience and my house was back up to 68 degrees in no time. I highly recommend Donovan Mechanical and will definitely use them again! read more

So lucky to have found Jason of Donovan Mechanical. Found him via yelp, he had great reviews so I called and left a message and he called back very soon after. Just moved into an older home and we scheduled a general service call. He gave us an excellent price quote and stuck to it. It was ironic in that the same day we were scheduled to maintenance our heat went out (before he arrived) and he kept to the standard charge and did not charge me for emergency service. Turns out it was something I was suppose to do but had no idea. Jason showed me to avoid the situation in the future. Jason is a very kind, friendly, honest and courteous individual. He knows his stuff and he works fast. He won't sell you what you don't need and he took the time to show me how my system works. We are so lucky to have found him and we look forward to years of service with Donovan. read more

Jason is a lifesaver. Our A/C stopped cooling our home the evening before a severe heatwave was set to hit Boston. After getting a frantic call from me at 4:50pm the night before, he fit us in before his first call at 8:00am the next day. Jason was at my home at 7:30am, ready to go. We showed him the units and, unfortunately for us, they were frozen over. He couldn't do too much to help except tell us how to thaw it out and what to do to get it running at an acceptable temperature. He came back this AM at the same time, fixed the A/C for the heat wave and rest of the summer and mentioned what it might be for a long term fix as well as what it might cost. Since our home is still under warranty, we are contacting the builder for repairs, however, are hoping they will allow us to employ Jason for that fix as well. Cost was EXTREMELY fair for two stops at our home, plus the short term fix to get us through the heat wave and the rest of the summer. Place that on top of the fact that we were last minute visits, and know that I was expecting to pay way more - and would have gladly. My husband and I have definitely found our go-to HVAC company. read more

Had a definitely overdue check up on central air HVAC system. Jason was polite and did an extremely good job of explaining everything he found and his recommendations for avoiding any problems going forward. There was leak that caused water to pool on the floor of the furnace system, and the outside A/C unit in desperate need of cleaning along with a few caps missing from the outside unit as well. Total cost of the check up, cleaning up the remaining water, and both cleaning the outside unit and replacing the caps that were missing cost $356, 140 of which was the base amount for the check up. Extremely affordable. Will definitely be using this company going forward. read more

I hired Jason based on the great Yelp reviews that he has. He answers his cell phone every time that I call him and returned all of my calls and texts. It was really refreshing to be dealing directly with him and you always know who is doing the work for you. Jason came out and identified the issue with our HVAC Hydro Air unit that was not working and came back to repair the unit once he expedited the parts. He also found an issue with our second unit with a clogged drain and saved us from future HVAC failures. He is by far one of the best finds and hires! He left us nice and cool and he was worth every penny. His pricing is very competitive and fair. When you hire Jason you get a nice, knowledgeable, honest and hard working family man. You can trust him and sit back while your issues are fixed. Look forward to my Spring Service! Thanks you Jason for everything! read more
