The food is really expensive for what it is. The quality is just OK. I don't think I'd go back.

Best place to fill your belly before or after your trek through the gardens. The prices are reasonable and the food is really good. I bought a friend here who doesn't eat meat and she had plenty of choices I also can't get over how friendly and helpful the staff are here. And don't be surprised if a peacock just comes over to you and stares at you fir awhile lol. After all we are visiting there home. They are the friendliest. read more

Visited on Christmas Eve 2022 & thought the place would be packed. It was absolutely manageable and very pleasant. It's counter service where you order inside & they bring you your food outside, although there are a few tables inside. (They were fairly large tables & I didn't want to take up too much space if a large group entered, so I sat outside.) Ordered a veggie burger & fries, which were very good & priced in accordance with local restaurants, even a few cents lower. The staff was lovely, but not really too much into customer service that cost energy & that would be my only concern. I was not directed to the counter to get things like napkins & had to leave my food on the table to go back inside to get what I need. The staff just directed me, but did not say, "I'll go grab you a few napkins!" This was a bit disappointing, but not enough to cost a star. The Arboretum has a rather large population of peacocks, which roam freely. The guests are very good about not harassing them & not feeding them, but I wasn't crazy about eating my entire meal with a peacock peeking over the table, inches away, like a cat waiting for a morsel. It says how frequently this happens that NONE of the other guests even noticed. I will absolutely visit the Peacock Cafe on my next visit to the Arboretum. read more

Great place inside the gardens. Although they only serve cold items during covid it was great since you can't bring food to the gardens. They had sandwiches, yoghurt parfaits, cookies and baked goods, salads and cold pasta/noodles salads. Snacks and drinks too. And watching the peacocks is fun. Plenty of outdoor seating. :) read more

The peacock cafe was a convenient place to get some food at the Arboretum. The outer decorations were pleasant with lights and patio furniture although it would have been nicer if there was padding on the metal chairs. As far as the food selection it was minimum and the inner decor was a bit stale feeling. The children running around messing with the doors was a bit discouraging so I ate outside so that I could enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Their breakfast burritos are actually quite flavorful. Also had a bite of the veggie sandwich and I thought that was pretty good too. Their ingredients are quite fresh from what I tasted. Environment is nice, and like everyone said, tons of peacocks. Sometimes they'll roam near the cafe, but sometimes they'll be off in the distance cawing at each other. Note the cawing can get pretty loud when they're relatively close. If that bothers you, you may want to stay indoors to the cafe. read more

My family and I got there a few minutes before the kitchen closed and as we're looking at the menu the clerks stare at us and waited for it to turn 3:30pm (kitchen close time) just to tell us the kitchen is closed and would not let us order. It would have been nice for them to say something sooner or provide an exception. So ridiculous please do not go here. read more

Had lunch today before exploring the beautiful grounds of the Arboretum. Had some really good fries and an even better tuna melt sandwich!! Quick order service style, you order at the counter and pay and then they will bring your food to your table. They also have a selection of pre-made food items for a quick grab and go. read more

Ever gone to the zoo and been forced to eat mediocre, tasteless, dry cafeteria food? This isn't it. While the prices are higher than in past years (I don't mind paying a little more for the well-being of the people working there), it's still reasonably priced. The food is visibly fresh and tasty. While the burger patty could have used more seasoning, the burger was a generous size and tasted good. The fries are especially delicious. They're seasoned and coated, so there's good crispiness. I ordered the Baldwin Grilled Cheese sandwich, which had tomato, avocado and bacon (but didn't include fries), and enjoyed it. It wasn't overloaded, which is better for my bloodstream. I appreciated the hearty serving size of the veggies in our orders. The good people behind the counter were friendly and helpful. I needed a plastic knife and a paper tray in two separate trips, and each time they were sweet and eager to help. They seemed very nice and happy to be there. They also had hand sanitizer available, didn't have indoor seating, and generally seemed clean. Just a warning though--the peacocks and peahens seem extra bold nowadays. They come around looking for food, sometimes in groups, and will steal food off of your table if there's an opening and no one is shooing them away. You actually have to get up out of your chair and herd them away. You can use extra chairs as a barrier if your party isn't filling the table. If it weren't for my kids freaking out over the peacocks, it would be perfect! It's a beautiful place to eat and enjoy the scenery. read more

Been to the Arboretum many times, but today I ate at the Peacock Cafe for the first time. I have to say the Peacock Cafe is a hidden Gem within a peaceful place. I had the California grilled chicken Sandwich on toasted Sourdough. It was very good. They have a good breakfast and lunch menu that you should be satisfied with. They also have cold prepared sandwiches in a display cooler. The inside was very cool during this warm weather. So if you feel like enjoying a peaceful day with good food, try this out, you won't regret it. They also have patio seating overlooking the gardens. My compliments to the chef, and courteous staff. I didn't realize there were sandwiches and salads in the front part until after we ordered. I would have probably gotten a salad but ended up ordering a chicken club on wheat, hot dog for my niece and turkey melt for my other niece. "Hot food" apparently takes a while. I had the cheeseburger and fries while my wife ordered the California melt grilled chicken sandwich. Both were surprisingly good, and the fries were tasty! This is a simple service cafe. You place your order and they give you a number and bring the food out to your table. The kitchen menu is pretty limited, just the items above, a burger, grilled cheese, and a few breakfast items. They also offer packaged sandwiches and salads. Nothing fancy, but a nice quick meal after our walk through the Arboretum. They offer inside seating, but the patio offers great views of arboretum, while peacocks wander through the seating area looking for handouts. While tempting, don't succumb to it. We saw one gentleman offer a fry and after that the peacock wouldn't stop pestering him. read more

There are numerous ways to work up an appetite. I have listed a few of my favorites: Trekking the Sahara on foot Swimming to Catalina Island Working on the chain gang Visiting The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden (aka The Arboretum) True, a few items on my list are not so pleasurable. Visiting The Arboretum surely is. Anyway you add it up; sunshine + 127 acres + the burden of blissful leisure = rumbly in the tumbly. Fortunately, inside the oasis that is The Arboretum lays an inner sanctum known as the Peacock Cafe. As outside food and beverage is not allowed inside The Arboretum (sneaking in bottled water isn't so hard) a visit to the Peacock Cafe is always in order. Don't let the site of a single cash register and as little as one visible employee frighten you away. There is obviously a staff of Peafowl slaving away in the back. The cafe itself can go from empty to full in the blink of eye depending on the time and day of your visit. Thankfully, the service is consistently good and the wait time far from extreme. The only bit of sour news is the establishment is cash only. Still, it's not enough to affect their rating (at least not for me). Although the menu is not extensive, what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. Time after time, it never fails to hit the spot. On this day, I opted for a chicken salad sandwich, Hansen's Soda and what was without a doubt one of the most delicious apples I have come across in recent memory. What made the apple so succulent I know not. What I do know is that at 50 cents that apple was worth 10x as much. The sammy didn't disappoint either. Fresh bread and ingredients were abundant in every bite. Though some will choose a heartier fare, I prefer something a little lighter when I'm here. The sights are so good at The Arboretum that all I can think about is getting back to them. With nature's beauty abundant in every direction food loses it immediacy (hard to believe but true). If you're as fortunate as I, one of the many celebrity Peafowl will stop by for an impromptu photo op. It's cool to see the pandemonium these type of celebrity sightings cause. Even though there is a ban on outside food and drink and the conditions are ripe for price gouging, the integrity of nature is true as the value and service remain fair. What truly set's this place apart from most anywhere else is the ability to escape once you arrive. read more

Came here after a 10 mile walk i was starving and this place served up some good food, amazing service was not disappointed. Their fries were a hit, perfectly seasoned crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Clean and neat place . Peacocks loves to be next to the cafe. This cafe has great food in large portions. One of their melts (the Los Robles is my favourite) and a bottle of water can easily fill up two people. Once in a while, some peacocks and peahens (and maybe their children) will strut on by. They are well fed, so they don't ask for your food, they just scan for extra scraps on the ground. Only issue is the seating; there are few tables to rest at, and those are usually occupied by the time you get to the cafe. Overall, I do enjoy stopping here for a bite after my time walking and jogging around. read more

But i don't need the stupid garden entrance and i was not told that i needed that stupid ticket ! I was furious and disappointed very mu h as i drove there an hour to see peacocks and they tell me bulsheet and nonsense! Never go to that stupid cafe as the staff is not competent and understanding and the situation was their fault but they say only i am really sorry! I don't nerd that stupid sorryy! I visited the booth during the lantern festival. The employees were so nice and hospitable. It was soooooo cold and although I was cranky, they found a way to make me smile. Peacock cafe? Eh? Do they serve peacock here or something? Oh the horrors! No simply...instead of being surrounded by sparrows looking for food...its peacocks! They stick round the cafe and the brave ones actually come up pretty darn close if you start feeding them. Located in the Arboretum, this cafe is the only place that you can get drinks and food. First thing I notice? The peacocks of course. They are all around the building, sitting in trees next to the building, and even on the roof of the building! They say these are wild peacocks, but they are pretty used to people anyhow. Definitely the coolest part about eating here. Where else can you eat with a peacock standing next to you? The cafe itself is located in the center of the Arboretum near the entrance/exit. Sandwiches, soup and salads place, some indoor seating but mostly outdoor seating. The building had a wide extended roof that generates more shade for weary people who have trekked all over the gardens, and also encompasses other facilities for the Arboretum. It's a order, pay (cash only), grab a number and wait for your food to arrive. By no means is it gourmet fare, but works well enough for a simple lunch. I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich to fuel my upcoming exploration. Decent enough, plenty of grilled veggies with a piece of melted cheese, lettuce, sliced tomato, all in a sub bun. The bun itself was slightly toasted which was nice. veggies has good flavor but the overall sandwich was pretty tasteless. They don't add any sauce, but there are mayo and mustard packets that you can grab. 6 dollars for that and then a bottle of water to wash it all down. The outside area is has plenty of seating. Green metal ornate chairs under shady trees. Pink flowers are all over the trees and occasionally fall down on you as you eat. Not a very comfortable place to lounge around as your butt starts to hurt, but I'm not here to sit around for a long time, just enough time for a quick bite. While not a great cafe, it satisfies you enough and gives you enough fuel to keep going in the Arboretum. Of course the best part is the peacocks. They can be quite loud though as one cries out and several others join in. It all adds to the ambience. read more

First time visitor and it took 40 minutes to receive just a cheeseburger and fries. Maybe they were short staffed for some unforeseen reason, but there was no warning given when placing the order that there would be that long a wait. And that's not counting the 10 minutes waiting to place the order. Even with the good prices and decent food, I'll plan better next time and stop first at the Taco Bell down the street. read more

Situated inside the Arboretum, this is really the only option for food most days. Given that, the food is surprisingly good, varied, and fresh. Pricing is very fair. Lots of outdoor tables. They have an assortment of tasty salads, wraps, and sandwiches that are pre-packaged but loaded with fresh veggies, cheese, and meat. There is a great veggie wrap for the vegan in your party. They prepare a few hot dishes too. Definitely worth a stop when you are in the garden! read more

I came to grab a bottle water to thirst my quench. It was very hot outside. I walked into the cafe and noticed many of the tables inside were taken but none outside were being used except for one. Everyone had the same idea, get inside from the hot air. Anyway, I walk in find a cold bottle of water and move to the cash register adjacent to the cooler. I sit there and wait and wait and wait. No one was manning the cash register. I began looking to see if the menu had a price listed for the water. I found it ($1.50) and had thought about putting the change on the table and walking out. Then I got to thinking, maybe they charge tax. About that time a girl came walking out from the back. Finally! I paid for my water and was on my way. The rating is really for the service more than the food. Maybe the next time I'll have a chance to grab something to eat and then I can give this place a better review. My mom and I stopped by this cafe after walking around the arboretum for 2 hours. This small cafe mainly serves sandwich and a few breakfast items. I ordered us a tuna melt and a chicken club. The tuna melt was a tad oily and the chicken in the chicken club sandwich was too dry. Then again, generally, melts are oily and chicken breasts are dry. What I did like was their serving size. I truly believe that my mom and I could have shared a sandwich and both of us would have been full. Would I go out of my way to come here? Probs not. But would I stop by if I were at the arboretum again? Most likely... They don't let you bring outside food in ;`D read more

Lovely little cafe with reasonably priced, freshly prepared food. Great to relax and grab a bite after walking around the Arboretum. I have enjoyed both lunch and breakfast here. There is a great view of the fountain in front of you, and the mountains to you right. Even in the heat of summer, it stays cool in the mornings under the shade of a large cherry blossom tree. Try their French toast for breakfast. Delicious way to start the day after a lovely early morning walk. read more

My wife & I have enjoyed the Arboretum for several years and we are both photographers. We enjoy taking photos of the several hundred kinds of birds, flowers, mamals, etc. We work up a good appitite while walking through the acreage of the Arboretum and always look forward to a wonderful lunch there at the Peacock Cafe! On January 28, 2012 I tried the Tri-Tip sandwich on Foccasia and it was simply fantastic! I always look forward to trying one of the specials they offer on weekends! I have never been disappointed in the quality of the food prepared freshly by the incredible chefs. The counter staff and waiters are friendly and courteous... Always! Even when the line seems longer than ever, it moves fast and the food is served to your table in a few minutes! read more
