I entered Paula Deen's Family Kitchen in Branson with a modest goal: to consume my weight in butter-leavened carbohydrates. I left with a profound sense of spiritual displacement and an empty stomach. The service was prompt, but the atmosphere took a turn for the supernatural shortly after we were seated. While the staff was professional, they failed to warn us about the sentient portrait photo of Paula Deen hanging in the dining area. Midway through our first course, the portrait's eyes began to track our movements with a predatory glint. Without warning, the 2D Paula detached herself from the canvas, stepped into the three-dimensional realm, and began a localized reign of terror. The Incident Log: The Biscuits: My "Ooo-ee" Butter-Drenched Biscuits were the first casualties. She vacuumed them up with a sound like a shop-vac in a flour factory. The Decor: In a display of indiscriminate hunger, the portrait then turned her attention to the centerpiece. She didn't just smell the decorative flowers; she ate the silk hydrangeas and the ceramic vase they were housed in. The Collateral Damage: My companion's fried chicken was snatched mid-air. Even the sugar packets weren't safe. It is difficult to critique the seasoning of the meatloaf when the restaurant's namesake--or at least a high-pigment manifestation of her--is busy unhinging her jaw to consume the table's napkins. I reached out to our server to ask if this was a scheduled performance or a breach of the space-time continuum. They simply offered us more sweet tea, which the portrait promptly intercepted and drank through the glass. Verdict: If you are looking for a quiet family meal, look elsewhere. However, if you want to watch a piece of wall art achieve apex predator status by eating everything in a 10-foot radius, this is the premier destination in Branson. Whew. We have eaten at Paula Deen's several times. This was our worst experience. We had a reservations and walked right in after shopping a bit. We ordered the fried chicken, spare ribs, corn, turnip greens, fried okra, and creamed potatoes. The chicken must have come from some tiny chickens, because those legs and wings were tiny. The spare ribs were fine. Nothing special. The vegetables were outstanding. The problem was the portions. There were two of us, and we never had more food than half a plate. We got two pieces of chicken at a time and only two spare ribs. The vegetables barely covered the bottom of the bowl. Since the chicken was so small and the veggies were so good, we had to keep asking for refills which was so slow. We didn't want more than our fair share, but having to ask for refills over and over was annoying. Paula can afford to spare some extra corn, for goodness sakes. read more

Paula Deen's never disappoints! The food is always fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is soothing and relaxing, and service is always attentive. We got the fried chicken and beef pot roast. Then the sides were the tossed salad, candied yams, mac and cheese, and creamed corn followed by vanilla ooey gooey. Everything was amazing! Gosh, we so wanted to love this place, but it was "mid" as the kids say. We liked how the tables were spread out so we didn't feel cramped. Service was OK. We had fried chicken that was hot but nothing special. We had pot roast that was tender but lacked flavor. The potatoes were OK, again lacked flavor. The mac and cheese was disappointing, got much better mac and cheese at the Beaver themed gas station. It was orange processed cheese product, not cheese with butter and cream that you'd expect from Paula. Dessert was top tier. Yummy all the way. Skip dinner and just order dessert to go! If we ever pass this way again, we'll pass right by this place and choose somewhere else to eat. read more

We decided to stop at this location for an early Fathers Day dinner. The location was very easy to find and there was plenty of parking either in the lots and they seemed to have a shared parking garage Inside, the location was very clean and it felt like being in a fancy homey feel. We were seated right away. For dinner, we got tue fried chicken, meatloaf and catfish. For our sides, it was creamed corn, creamed potatoes, Cole slaw and mac n cheese. Fried chicken was okay. I prefer a thick batter and this was very thin. Chicken was seasoned okay. Wasn't memorable The meatloaf was delicious. Catfish was okay as well As down the sides, I was not a fan of the coleslaw. Gotta say, I was less than impressed. This is NOT country cooking, nor is it close to how mama used to make it. The good things, the portions were great! Not only that, you get refills!!! They serve you family style with big bowls and you serve each plate on your own. With that being said.....I didn't need refills (with the exception of chicken and dumplings). The fried chicken was OKAY, the fish was seasoned great but too soft, the country fried steak was pretty good but felt like a frozen packaged meal. Mashed potatoes had a good taste but weird gritty consistency. The tartar sauce tasted like mayonnaise with a few things thrown in. Not a good mix. The chicken and dumplings were over seasoned (which my kids and I didn't mind, but my wife did). The Mac and cheese was by awful. Tasted gritty and had little taste. Deserts were AMAZING. My wife and I visited the Paula Deen restaurant in Branson this afternoon. We were on a trip here to celebrate our 56th anniversary. I'd never been here but my daughter recommended it. The food was good (not great) as well as the service and not too long a wait. At our age we can seldom eat everything that I put in front of us. It's usually not a problem- we just take the rest home. I was surprised to learn you can't do that here. I wasn't so much disappointed that we would miss out on a little meal later. We can afford all the meals we need. My disappointment came from knowing that a lot of food was being thrown out. What a horrible waste! I get it that this restaurant serves "family style" and could lose money if folks would take unfair advantage of that. I just regret that the choice that has apparently been made is to throw out all leftovers in order to increase their own profits. I won't help them along by coming back. read more

The service was good as well as the blueberry lemonade, broccoli casserole, and banana pudding were good. Amazing and so tasty. As for the main meal itself, there was some room for improvement. We got the chicken dumplings and chicken fried steak. Both were lacking in the flavor I had expected. The chicken fried steak was also cooked within an inch of its life, so it was hard to chew. The mac and cheese was good, but there was nothing special past the mac and cheese; you could get it somewhere else much cheaper. The meals are family style and reasonably priced. The dinner for two includes 2 entrees and 4 sides. We chose the Chicken Fried Steak, Catfish, Cole Slaw, Collard Greens, Creamed Potatoes and Fried Okra. The food arrived promptly and everything tasted great. We had a reservation for a group of 16 for a birthday and they separated us into to tables not by each other and the food was a letdown, they style of service here is family style and you choose on is you want 2,3 or 4 main items and everyone has to take that choice plus 4 sides and a dessert .We had fried chicken which was crispy and hot but needed a bit more seasoning, chicken and dumplings which were good, broccoli casserole which was just broccoli with cheese and bread crumbs , poppyseed salad which was the best out of everything and somewhat runny mashed potatoes. We really really like this place. Huge, clean restaurant. Service was good. First time eating here. They had to explain that the entire menu is family style. We chose to get the $24/person option. For that price you get 2 meats and 4 sides and 1 dessert. The meat loaf tasted good but had a weird consistency. Kinda mixed feelings... based on this review it's probably just not my kind of restaurant. The food is super salty. Based on the salt factor I'd say they must of used all the salt in Branson here. Not one side dish was bearable. The peach sweet tea was like going into diabetic coma with half a glass. Couldn't even drink it. I'm gonna say that it's not my cup of tea. You will find this restaurant in Branson Landing. Between the huge lot and garage that the restaurant shares with the other businesses in the Landing, there is tons of free parking available. The restaurant is hard to miss as it is located in the front, just off of the parking lot and across from the towering Steampunk Ballon. You have to enter and exit the restaurant through its gift shop. The gift shop has mixes, t-shirts, books, mugs, aprons and other novelties. There is also a large stove in there which looks like they host demonstrations and/or classes on. Once you make it through the gift shop, you will reach the dining area. It is a huge, trendy dining area. The entire. staff have the southern hospitality thing down and are very friendly and helpful. My server was awesome. We came there on Black Friday for lunch and were seated right away. This is a unique resturant. It is kind of like a hybrid buffet. It is family style dining and you just choose the mains and sides you want. It is all you can eat, you just cannot take any home. You are charged per person, so please bring your appetite, to make it worth your while. We went with the 2 main/4 side meal, which was about $20 per person. The littles are priced a bit differently depending on their age. We got the meat loaf and ribs, along with corn on the cob, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. It took about 12 minutes for our food to show up. In the mean time, they brought us some cheese biscuits that were really good. The food was fresh, hot and pretty good. Yes, it is buffet style food, that is served family style, but I still liked it a lot. There was nothing that I did not like or regreted getting. My favorites were the mashed potatoes and the meatloaf. My littles only at corn on the cob, so next time I am leaving them home. We all got our deserts that came with the meal to-go. We could not eat anymore. I left there stuffed, all I wanted to do was take a nap. I will definitely be back, but without the littles. Well....my 5 star rating today...will counter-act some of hayseed (BS low star) reviews I see on this place. Paula Deen's has some excellent comfort food - BUT, when you go, it needs to be busy. Busy equals the food turning over in the kitchen- which has the quality coming out of said kitchen - all the better. Ok, time for some comfort food comments: - Fried chicken. The chicken always has good flavor and is cooked very well. The chicken pieces this last time, were on the small side. But, "so what", I can always get more (and did). There's never a problem in getting more. - Pot Roast. They had the salt to it on this night, but dang is it good. Something about it and how you can really taste that beef flavor, that has it being good. - Fried fish. I think this is the first time we ever had fish come to the table. This one was a big miss. Maybe a mere poor batch of fish, but the taste was an old and off putting taste. - Creamed potatoes. Boy was this dish a real winner! I'm sure there's nothing healthy about these potatoes, but who cares, they're awesome! - Chicken & Dumplings. I'd be proud, if I could make a batch of dumplings (like these). This dish also had plenty of flavor, nice thick body to them. Creamed corn. Pretty sweet, but another great side to the meal. Does this place cost $25 to $28 a person - yes. BUT, you do get refills of any main dish or side item. You get the variety to your meal, by being able to pick different main dishes / side dishes. And you must remember - this place sits on the Landing in Branson. Hardly a low rent district to this tourist area. So to me, there is plenty of price / value to a dinner here at Paula Deen's. Especially when you compare it, to what you'll pay at other places (on) The Landing. (Not) my fiery trip to the "food rodeo" folks. I will start with the Pros: - The people were friendly, especially those at the host stand. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation, and it was a ghost town so they sat us early. Service was fine, nothing exceptional or terrible to report. - It was very clean and bright inside the restaurant. - the poppyseed salad was good (hard to mess up), the peach cobbler was good, and the fried chicken wasn't terrible, but it wasn't any better than a fast food chicken joint. Cons: - Basically all of the food except what was mentioned above. - Everything tasted like it was made in the morning for lunch, and then everything leftover was warmed up for the dinner crowd. - I thought Paula Deen was known for buttery, southern, home style meals? The macaroni and cheese was some of the worst I've ever had. It was so dry. I'm not really sure what the meatloaf was, it was very odd. I went the Branson location while visiting the area. We came with a group of locals and I knew nothing about the restaurant. They do family style meals starting at $25 a person. I had gastric surgery and have a 3/4 cup stomach capacity and asked if I could do a side salad or kids menu. NO, not without proof of surgery. I had surgery 2.5 years ago and have never been asked for a card. ( I did offer to show them my scars) Do not come here if you have a small appetite as they only serve large portions. I had a glass of tea. Even talked to manager and no help. I gave the one star as I have never been to a restaraunt where I couldn't find something small to eat. Not here! read more

Came here with family, was a little hesitant after reading some negative reviews but everything went off perfectly. Food was hot and fresh, service was perfect.
