I'd give 2.5 stars if that was an option. My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Saturday night. We both really enjoyed the margaritas (forgot menu name but real lime juice and served in a stainless shaker). The chips and salsa were tasty too. She ordered combo fajitas and I had the Patron Burrito. The presentation was great and plates were super hot, but surprisingly my burrito was only luke warm at best. I'm curious how the plate was so hot but barely warm food on it?- still haven't figured that one out. Secondly my chicken, while with good flavor, did not have the consistency of "chunks of chicken," rather half-cut slabs of chewy ham or calamari steak. I had to finish cutting each bite (knife required) and lots of chewing to get it down. So I'd give the burrito a 1-star or less. My girlfriends chicken was cut better (strips like you'd expect for fajitas) and seemed to have better taste and consistency), and her shrimp were plentiful and delicious! Umm... The food was just okay. The sides were not so good. The rice was not good at all and the beans were not very memorable. The entree itself was okay. I was starving and would be exploring the great outdoors for the rest of the day so I forced myself to eat add much as possible. I will say that I started to feel kind of sick later on but I can't blame it on the enchiladas... I think. The atmosphere is what ups l you'd expect when you see the place. It's on the side of a shopping center. More to come about the sad, disgusting grocery store next door to this place. But yeah... if you're on Whidbey Island, you should probably go to another Mexican place (I think saw maybe one) or maybe get a pizza. read more

This is my go-to place for Mexican food. Granted, living on an island means our options are limited but fortunately I'd choose Patron over most of Seattle's options as well. This place is run by friendly people that consistently deliver ample portions of delicious food. The menu has a big selection of traditional to "Americanized" entrees and they're willing to work with any modifications you require. In fact, they have a separate gluten-free menu so us allergy-afflicted types can order with a fair bit of confidence. Short of switching to an all organic menu, I hope they don't change anything. (Seriously though, at least non-GMO corn chips & tortillas would be very welcome.) Do your tongue a favor and give Patron a shot but leave some carnitas and beans for me. I am a huge fan of Patroon In Langley! Its a small unassuming location, but it packs a punch with flavors. from street tacos to seafood stew, I am working my way through the menu with each visit. The staff is great and really know the menu - ask them for a recommendation. read more

First off we don't get to Whidbey much. My now wife and I were having a classy Beach Wedding this summer and needed a caterer. Mexican was not our first choice but we worth both so glad we made Patron's are food providers. We ordered Fajitas for 90 people and several side trays of appetizers and a garbage can full of chips (Literally). They graciously even drove the food to us straight from the kitchen. It came hot and delicious. Everyone raved about the food. Not a single complaint from 90 diners. More importantly there was enough food for probably twice that many people. We had so much food no one went hungry. We are very thankful for Patrons. They did an amazing job. If you are ever having a party on Whidbey give these guys a call. The price was amazing. We paid nearly 1/4 of the original bid from our first caterer for double the food. Needless to say we now love Patrons! read more

The food at this establishment is average American style Mexican food - huge portions and they give bean dip with the salsa and chips - kinda nice. A huge negative for the place is that some members of their staff has been overheard making really rude, discriminatory and vulgar comments about gay and lesbian patrons in Spanish. Sadly for all, these comments were overheard and understood by Spanish speaking customers on more than one occasion. This matter was reported to management and happened a second time. There is another Mexican place a few miles up the road where they welcome everyone - I'm going to skip the negative energy at Patron and hit El Corral instead. Its not as nice an atmosphere but the food is good, the prices are better and it is a locally owned and operated family business. Sad face for Patron. Hope they fix this problem. read more

Excellent Mexican Mexican food in a strip mall location. The seafood molcajete is delicous, chock full of fish, shrimp, and scallops, and served in a traditional-looking stone bowl. Chips are cooked fresh and served hot. The pico de gallo is great. They also offer American options including like cheeseburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. read more

Great food, was served timely. Happily took in our requests like to serve the burrito as a bowl without tortilla, exclude cheese in certain dishes. Tried burrito bowl, quesadilla and Taco salad. All dishes were good. The nachos and salsa we're complimentary. We were there around 11:30am, when the restaurant was not as crowded, but it quickly filled up by 12:00pm. Its a kid friendly restaurant, and my nieces were given coloring sheet and some colors. Kept my them busy for a while. We have been to Patron's a couple times since our introduction a few years ago. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. The food is very tasty and the menu offers quite a selection. We particularly enjoyed the lamb shanks, not something you typically see in a Mexican restaurant. They were cooked to perfection, meaning the tender, flavorful meat was falling off the bone! The sauce was complimentary to the meat and with the rice mixed in and beans on the side, one has a full and satisfying meal. You can order a second, reasonably priced shank, thereby making this dish easily shareable with two or three. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. We went here tonight for dinner. I had the seafood molcajete. I have to say it was amazing. I would say it tasted like a comfort food you would have when your home and sick. The reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is 2 fold. I felt the beef was a little over cooked and the fact I ordered the seafood molcajete but they brought me the beef and chicken molcajete instead. Ordered the steak fajitas for $13.99. Amazing portion size and amazing marinade/ taste. The rice and beans were delicious and the chips, salsa, pico de gallo, bean dip and guacamole were all perfect. 3.5 stars -- somewhere between 'A-OK' and 'Yay! I'm a fan'. The food is not gourmet or highly authentic (American style, not regional Mexican), but it was very flavorful and not overly greasy. The restaurant itself is modestly tucked away in a mall, but clean and functional. When we walked in, the restaurant was stuffy with kitchen smoke (fajita?) -- hoping this was an exception, not the norm (otherwise, our air quality would ironically be much worse than the neighboring "Smoke Shop"). Staff were friendly, and the drinks were good. I would happily revisit, and re-order (steak fajitas, chicken fajita salad), particularly as Mexican restaurants are not overpopulated in South Whidbey by any stretch of the imagination. read more

Upon entering I watched the front guy put cheese on the bean dip with no gloves. I observed him for close to 3 hours doing this chore he never washed his hands neither did anyone else who stuck their hand in the cheese, No gloves, No tongs. If this is happening in plain sight what is happening in the kitchen. It was a busy night, understandable the fair was on. I ordered a Carne Asada burrito my daughter ordered a veggie macho burrito. Neither one had any depth of flavor or any flavor period. My carne asada had barely any meat mostly beans and rich and a wilted green onion to top it off. We Will Never Eat there again. For the fact that Patron is a quaint little place in an area with relatively few options, it does a good job of scratching that Mexican food itch that can come up. The staff were really helpful and, even after there was a bit of miscommunication on my order (I was given a lunch menu at dinner and didnt notice), the service was prompt and helpful. I bring my grandparents here regularly and it rarely lets us down. I never like to judge an establishment based on one bad experience, but one thing I have noticed over our visits is that the meat has become increasingly salty. Recently, it was to the point where I had to refrain from finishing my entire meal. My grandpa loved the Avocado Tostado and grandma always delights in the quesadilla. For where it's located and what it provides to the community, it is worth the trip but perhaps go with a grilled chicken option if you're not a fan of too much salt. read more
