Stopped by Seabolt's while exploring Whidbey Island, and we had a great experience! The restaurant has a fun, casual fish-market vibe that fits perfectly with the seafood-focused menu. We went between lunch and dinner, so there was no wait, which was perfect. Kristen took great care of us -- she was incredibly nice, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the halibut sandwich, surf & turf, and a side of prawns, and everything was excellent. The portion sizes were just right -- satisfying without being overwhelming. The halibut was perfectly cooked, moist, and flavorful. The steak was perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, and a really nice cut. And the prawns were crispy and delicious! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Seabolt's. Great food, friendly service, and a laid-back Whidbey Island atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're craving good seafood! read more

The food itself gets a 5/5. Delicious! Our party had the scrumptious fried pickles, prawns and chips, and salmon and chips. Everything was tasty! Because the food is so great, it's a busy place. Service was slow, but every employee was extremely busy. Part of the slowness is that there seems to be tons of pick up/take out orders. Still, the servers were polite and were doing their very best. We'd come again for sure! read more

The servers were so friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered lovely suggestions. The food was quite good. Fresh and simple, with a quality to it. Ambiance is very seafood and fisherman vibe. read more

Great service, staff were friendly and attentive. Really good, fresh seafood, prepared well. This place was mobbed before we got there and was cleared out of almost all the fresh fish of the day. I tried the salmon pate and got their fish and chips. The salmon pate was decadent and had good flavor and the portion was very generous; came with fresh fruit and toasted pita bread. Fish and chips were crispy, crunchy and tender on the inside, swapped for sweet potato waffle fries and they were great. Tried the Shrimp Po Boy as well, great sauce, loaded with shrimp. Will definitely come back when in town. Got some stuff to go as well. read more

Had a day trip to Whidbey and while exploring stumbled upon Seabolt's and decided to stop for lunch. We were seated right away, although it seems the lunch rush happened shortly after we came. Our waitress was so friendly and quick to put our order in. The sampler platter comes with a piece of fried cod, fried salmon and fried halibut along with fries. All of it was fried perfectly, and I would say my favorite was the halibut. It comes with tartar sauce and we got a side of chipotle lime sauce for an extra 75 cents. My friend got the crab and shrimp Louie, and which came with a lot of crab meat and small shrimps. It comes with thousand island dressing and was a pretty sizable salad, overall pretty good. read more

I stopped in at Seabolts to enjoy a lite lunch. I chose the Single taco with Halibut and the hard-shell corn tortilla packed with seasoned, sautéed halibut, Chili Lime Tartar, salsa, cheddar cheese and cabbage. The taco was erved with tortilla chips. I ate the tortilla chips with the salsa and I think that was the best part of the dish! I'm not saying the taco was bad! It was very delicious and the chili lime tartar was on point! But, that salsa was incredibly flavorful. I am a fan of spicy food and this salsa was not burn you tongue hot, but it did have a bit of heat to it! If you're a fan of spicy food I think you will enjoy this salsa. If you don't like spicy, you might want to avoid it, or try a tiny bit first. I had a tiny bit of confusion with the servers today. I think maybe they were new? I had two different servers bring me different drinks and even tried to serve the wrong dish. But everything worked out and I had a pleasant lunch on the Seabolt's Patio. read more

This was awesome!! I got the mussels and clams but next time I'll just get the mussels. No hate in the clams but the mussels were so tender and flavorful. The broth is so so good. My husband loved his fish and chips. The tartar sauce was perfect!! Kind of cluttered but I loved seeing all the fishing pictures and history in the walls. We made it in just before the dinner rush. We chose Seabolt's after a nearby hike because they had outdoor seating. Even though they were pretty busy, they were all very kind and friendly. We had the one of their specials - fried halibut sandwich with bacon and Swiss cheese, the backyard bbq sandwich and the gourmet believer burger. All very good! We would definitely eat here again. read more

I didn't take any pictures of the food. We were hungry and I didn't want to embarrass my daughter who is super touchy in her 15th year. When we went in it was around 4 so not many diners since it was between lunch and dinner. I was very confused by who our waitress even was. Three different girls took care of us and they kept forgetting things. If there are only 3 tables being serviced, I expect everything to go pretty swimmingly. Nope! It was like they were more interested in hanging out with their buddies than to care about remembering what we ordered. But they were nice, I'll give them that. They were out of both oysters and crab which upset me because it was only 4, they hadn't even started their dinner rush. I ordered the shrimp basket with a side of cod. My daughter got shrimp cocktail for an app, the shrimp po'boy, and the raspberry cheesecake for dessert (she was hungry after hiking HAHA). The shrimp cocktail was just okay, and so were our mains. French fries are not homemade and that is a serious lost opportunity. Fried shrimp, whether it's fresh or frozen, just tastes like fried shrimp, so I can't say any good or bad about it. What kind of pissed me off was the cheesecake. What came out was a tiny slice of sad looking cake with soggy, soft crust. This slice was 2" wide at the outer edge. The one picture I got was taken after we got back to our RV and my daughter starting eating it (she liked it so there's that). For $9, I expected a more substantial piece of cheesecake. All in all it wasn't worth what I paid. read more

The Service was super slow, had to remind server about the "add-ons" for my order, twice. The food was great, and would definitely come back. We ordered the chowder, halibut fish and chips, backyard bbq salmon sandwich, and a side of halibut. The chowder is a must. If you try nothing else .... order the chowder you won't regret it. The fried halibut was perfectly crisp and hearty although bland. Tartar sauce was flavorful. Would have enjoyed a side of homemade cocktail sauce and additional lemons. Recommend requesting bbq sauce as a side to the salmon sandwich. Overall the fish is fresh although portions are smaller. Customer service was chaotic even with 8 staff members behind the counter. Our server forgot our beverage, utensils, and served an item we didn't order (which we pointed out but kept and paid for due to prep time). Would definitely return for the chowder. read more

We were becoming regulars and still have faith in most of the staff, but tonight was a monumental disappointment. 1. They ran out of wine glasses and I had my wine served in a coffee cup. No big deal. Glasses break and you could run short. 2. Our food was delivered and good, but no one came to check and see how we were doing. 3. My husband still had a third of his food on his plate when the check was delivered. We were upset. We weren't done and had not ordered appetizers so we could have dessert. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else, just slam, bam, thank you ma'am. 4. The manager came out and scolded us because his server was in the back room crying. No apologies to us, just a scolding. Tonight was hash house service and we expected better. If we go back, I guess we better call first to see who is working. read more

I waited 40 minutes for some mediocre habit tacos. Staff seems pretty exhausted not sure what the deal was but the ambiance isn't friendly

First, the front door needs to be repaired before a customer is injured. It slams shut. Secondly, there is no greeting of customers as they walk in. Third, After placing a take out order I was asked to sit outside the front entrance and someone would bring my order out. After a 35 minute wait in a breezy chilly area, I went inside to ask about how much longer of a wait to find my order was sitting on the counter. No apologies for not bringing it out. The food was okay but not superb. this used to be a favorite...not anymore. read more

TL;DR: AVOID. Mediocre service that took over 15 minutes for a take out order of premade clam chowder. But wait, we didn't get it because when we asked where it was, we only got excuses for why it was taking so long. We had asked how long it would take since we were in a rush, and the person at the order station said "5 minutes." Now, not sure if this was intentional or not with other folks like us also in a similar predicament of waiting for seats when seats were available, waiting for simple to-go orders, etc. Anyway, we won't come back and advise others who aren't from the area not to go. read more

Great food. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Busy place. I like seafood. We had raw oysters.

This place is seriously underrated. It's a fast casual restaurant / deli with top tier seafood. Everything on the captains platter represents the best version of itself I've ever had. I don't even like halibut usually and they managed to get the halibut texture to be flavorful and not dry. The oysters are juicy and bursting with flavor, something that is often not true when served fried. The salmon and cod are still tender underneath a crispy crust and seasoned or marinated throughout. They overcome the pitfall of 99% of fried fish restaurants by ensuring the fish on the inside is not bland in comparison to the breading. You get a lot of bang for your buck. The captains platter comes on 2 separate plates with sides and although it claims to feed 2, it realistically could feed 3. The chowder is loaded and rich. Their house made sauces elevate all the dishes and are noticeably better than your standard bulk tartars at other places. The breading on the razor clams is outstanding and has a refreshing aftertaste of black pepper. All the breading is crispy and flavorful but also very thin. You get a lot of fish with every bite. The service is very professional and friendly. If you're on whidbey, this is a must visit. read more

Service good! Food great! if you find yourself on the island it's a must go! . You might have to wait for a table but it's 100% worth it. All the seafood is fresh from that day so if you get there after 7:30PM they can be sold out of crab. So get there earlier. read more

Food: the garlic bread was the best thing we had there. The clam chowder depended on which cup you were served; my boyfriend's happened to be from the bottom of the batch, so it looked and tasted old. Mine was from a new batch, so it looked and tasted fresh. Regardless, both needed more seasoning, and there were no salt and pepper shakers on the table. The Caesar salads were so overdressed that they were swimming in dressing. As for the halibut and chips, the halibut itself was good, and the breading was okay. I prefer beer-battered halibut, but that's just not the way they do it. The fries that came with the halibut were alright. Their tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were good. The guy who seated us and took our order was upbeat. The woman who brought us our food forgot the oyster crackers that she offered us. The place was clean and seating was comfortable. The temperature ran on the cooler side. All and all, this was an okay experience. read more

Let me start by saying we go here every year as part of a tradition for our yearly camping trip: Usually the food is great. Went on a Thursday around 5pm. Restaurant was not busy but was told it would be around a 30 minute wait for our food. We agreed to sit down. Once we sat the server never came back. we finally flagged down one after he took another's order that was sat after us. He was very kind and took our order. We did wait the 30 minutes (or more). Once the food came it was cold. I ordered the cod and chips (half order. Very small) and clam chowder. Both the fish and chowder were barely warm. My Wife's French fries also were cold. There was no steam on any of the food. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but it seemed unorganized. Our table was literally 15 ft away from the kitchen. There was no reason the food should have been cold. If it wasn't for the sever that took our order I would have gave a 1 star. read more

We were in Oak Harbor during a recent beach tour of Whidbey, and looking for some lunch. Yelp led us to Seabolt's to satisfy some serious fish & chip cravings. First off, the food was excellent! We shared a plate of their halibut & chips and a large house salad. The fish was fresh, flaky, and came with all the required fixin's (like tartar sauce, malt vinegar, etc), and the fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. The accompanying cole slaw was good, too, but a bit under seasoned for my tastes. The salad was delish as well - it had a lot of black olives on it which I personally love! We also got a couple of beers, which are served from bottles/cans in a frosty glass. Would be a great option if they added beer on tap at some point, because who doesn't love a frosty mug o' fresh beer with their fish? I did have two issues that soured my experience. First, the service was pretty slow. There were a lot of staff, and the place was only about 1/2 full. Our drink orders were taken but we had to remind our server, and a table that came in after us actually got their orders taken first. It wasn't the end of the world, just annoying. The biggest annoyance was their cash vs. credit policy. I get it, credit card fees can add up for a business and I totally respect it. But the way they go about offering a "cash discount" is pretty shady, in my opinion. There's a SMALL sign by the front door, and one on the BACK of the menu, announcing that all listed prices are if you pay with cash. If you use a card, they tack on a 3.8% "service charge." It's not so much the policy, but the way they don't make it obvious you'll be charged nearly 4% more, that felt really hinky and left me with a sour taste in my mouth when we left. read more

The wait was a little long but it is understandable because the food is good. What caught my attention is that the people cleaning do a very good job cleaning the tables quickly it seems as though they are used to having multiple customers. The fish is delicious , fresh, and everything we ordered tasted great! Even the clam chowder was legit! They don't skimp on anything. Ambience is sailor themed which I appreciated. Lastly, our server Sean is an excellent waiter. He was speedy, briefly explained an intro to our orders, he checked on us regularly and on top of that he was refilling our waters. He even checked on us to see if we were happy with our orders. A very fine establishment with a very professional well mannered waiter. Five stars. read more

Let me start with the very nice service team up front and their excellent food (when it finally arrived). The clam chowder was delicious, super nice pieces of clam. We also had nice fish and chips, the tacos had a great taste, but barely any fish in them, so maybe they were low on the fish that day? Now the bad, we arrived on a Saturday and the table wait of 30min was ok, but the issue was the wait for the food itself. Service seated us quickly and came through to take the order, but the food took a good hour and tables that arrived after some tables that got seated with us, had their food first. I'm not sure what was going on, but it definitely wasn't a good experience in the sense of sitting around starving. If you know there is trouble in the kitchen, come out with a quick snack to hold people over. We were seated at 12:30 and didn't have food until 1:30 and I wasn't the only one hangry, the table behind us got very antsy too. You gotta work through it, bring out a couple of cheap chips and salsa, apologize for the kitchen and people would be happier. Just a thought! If we ever come back, I'd either roll in at 11 when the kitchen staff is fresh and the food chaos hasn't started yet or maybe past 1:30 when the lunch rush is done. read more
