This review is on the new sushi place that is now located inside off the hook! I haven't been to the bar itself or had drinks or other food. We ordered a few rolls on Thursday night, and everyone was very happy! The shrimp was fresh, and when I arrived I saw the chef preparing the most amazing looking rolls. For a family of sushi lovers, we are thrilled to have this new fabulous option to add to our rotation. The people here were friendly, helpful, and wearing masks as required currently. So, apparently there is a drag show here every Saturday. I had been to this bar before a long time ago. Wasn't really my scene....but the drag show was fun. They musta had a brand new bar tender cause the lines were super backed up. Think it took around 20 minutes to get a beer. Anyhow. Come check out the show sometime. Don't think I can even give this place 1 star but I had to so it would post. I was there this weekend for the music festival and I told my buddy I really wanted to go in the dive bar (I love dive bars) before I go home. We went in on the last day....it was really really quiet (every other bar was busy). We ordered 2 makers mark and the bill was $37 before tip. Total extortion compared to every other bar we drank in over the weekend. The 2 bar staff were cold to me assuming I was a tourist since I have British accent (I'm US CITIZEN, been here a long time). Total price hiking hence why they were empty. Very disappointing and would not recommend this bar to anyone who's looking for a decent dive bar. Total rubbish. read more

Great place to have a beer and play a game of pool. The bartenders were very attentive and the prices reasonable. You might be skeptical of getting sushi at a bar but this place is totally legit. I also had a burger and fries which hand down beat out all others I've had on the island. Would definitely recommend for a night out. read more

There was lots of energy on a weekend night. People were ordering their favorite drinks. I asked for a menu and the kind bar tender gave me a sushi menu. I ordered one thing. A two piece ahi tuna roll. It took twenty five minutes to bring out the food. If it wasn't for me being up front checking on the status of a raw tuna roll it would of sat there. When I brought it to the table the roll I wanted to share wasn't sliced. It had the sliced marks on the top but it seemed like the knife was dull. I smelt a strong smell of rotten fish, a old smelly tiny roll that wasn't sliced is worth five piles of poop. read more

Zero stars. First drink had black flakes floating in it and it wasn't a little bit. It was an extremely dirty glass. I continued with one drink that the bartender kindly made me. The "itemized receipt" is a sticky note with your card laid out behind the bar- for everyone to see. Anyone could walk back there and take all the cards. The owner overcharged me $36. Then went on to say "a young lady like yourself isn't as wealthy as Mr. Trump" when I didn't want to leave a $25 tip. He sets his tip percentages extremely high so people who aren't paying attention end up paying more. Since I wasn't drunk or stupid, I wanted to be refunded what he overcharged me. (At this point I already slid my card. The amount didn't add up so I asked for my itemized receipt. When I totaled it, it came up $36 under what I was charged.) He began to smirk and approached me after I already walked out of the establishment. He stood in front of the door and stared at me and my friends. This place sucks. The service from the bartenders is awful, spiders are in the bathroom. Very unclean no toilet seat covers. Ladies sanitation buckets are full. Clearly no one cleans the bathroom. Took forever to get a drink PLUS over priced. The only cool part was the dj! Only leaving a 1 star rating cause you can't leave 0. Bar was dead on st Patrick's day, hmmm wonder why! read more

You may not think of Off The Hook as a Sushi destination but I can assure you it is fantastic. They hired a professional Sushi chef and are serving from 4-9. I felt very comfortable and clean with my family amongst the Covid concerns. Service was great, sushi was as good or better than I've had anywhere, prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was inviting. This bar was horrible. Flew into town and was meeting some friends, we decided to go to OFF THE HOOK. except everything was off here. The staff was rude, the toilets were backing up into the main bar area. Toilet water was everywhere, and all they could do was "please walk around ". We talked to one of the bartenders outside while smoking and he said it happens once a week or more. When we got there the place was dead, Barely 5 people there including the staff. Around 1030 ish it picked up a little but nothing special. Me and my friend had opened a tab by the second drink the bouncer was asking us to leave because he deemed us intoxicated. I could understand if this was a cop, or something but this guy didnt have a hint of intelligence showing in his eyes. We questioned the decision and was almost going to use to the bars breathalyzer they have for patrons to use (and pay for ) but figured if they didnt want our business we would move on. We closed out out tabs and left, We walked to another bar about a block up, and the tool of a bouncer followed us. The bartender at the second bar told us that he was "unprofessional and a dick". We got some drinks there enjoyed chatting with the bartender and the locals, Played some pool and called it a night. Long story short Avoid OFF THE HOOK. horrible service, rude staff, unpleasant overall. Avoid at all cost. This place needs to just die. Owners and staff dont need to be in business. read more

My only complaint that I have about Off the Hook is that the do not open 'till 5:00 PM. There is a large menu and the food is cooked to perfection (as long as Claude cooks it). Off the Hook is the nicest bar in Oak Harbor. read more

So, this is December 2018, and it's time for a new review. I had purchased a certificate from restaurant.com for Off The Hook but, when I called to make sure it would be accepted, I was told it would not. Okay, so maybe not so good so far but, Wait! The Next Day the owner, Claude, called me at home to ask me if I had been contacted, and I said, no...Okay, but he was calling me at home to ask! Claude told me he would accept the certificate, so I said I'd give it a try. He asked me what I had planned on ordering, and I started with the Spinach Salad. Although he told me it was no longer on the menu, he offered to get the ingredients and prepare it for me! OMG! I told him not to go out of his way. I then said the Fish & Chips, and he said if I would come in on Monday, he would cook for me Himself! I arrived at Off The Hook at 5pm to be greeted at the door by Claude, himself. He asked if I would like a tour of the restaurant, and I said, Yes! It's a beautiful (if you love rustic and nautical decor) building with seaside decor everywhere you look. It is huge, and includes pool tables in the back, beautiful wooden tables, and I was impressed, to say the least. I started my $20 for $10 meal with a large bowl of New England Clam Chowder. It was both hot, and delicious. I drank coffee because it was very cold outside, and enjoyed a large helping of a Hawaiian fish and lots of chips dipped in tartar sauce. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the host was kind and accommodating. I spent 2 hours there enjoying the warmth of the room, food and company. So, if you are reading the outdated reviews, read mine last. It is the most accurate, up-to-date review here. I don't know about bar/drink prices because I don't drink, but I know Claude has a chalkboard wall full of Specials (1/2 price, etc.) from which you can choose. Give Off The Hook a chance. I have tried to give this place a fair chance. I've been here probably 5 times total and it's nothing but a continual disappointment. This is the only place in oak harbor to go really if you like to get out and dance. But the DJ doesn't seem to have knowledge of any current or popular music whatsoever. He plays slowish 90s songs that puts people to sleep. No one is dancing at 1230pm and he doesn't see a problem with that. I went from frustrated to pissed off last night after it was the same story. This place would have potential if the owner actually cared about it and got that horrible DJ out of there as the first major change. The music really makes a place but he doesn't seem to get that. Most weekends are dead and it's not hard to tell that people have given up on going there to have fun. I do want to say something positive about the bartenders though. Those girls are awesome and do a great job. It's sad when sitting home staring at the wall is more fun then going out to this place.
