The fish and chips...the chips are fire...the fish...meh 9 bucks for a shot of bulliet bourbon. Great decor, friendly bartender, good pours, cold beer. The bathroom is open with no stall. 0/10 on the poopability scale. The back patio is intimate and colorful. They have a jukebox and you will hear a wide variety of music being played on it from hank Williams to slipknot. All in all not a bad little spot. read more

This spot can go from dive bar to decent fun place to hang out but they've got some work to do. I'm going to make a few suggestions: 1) customer service. A little friendliness goes a long way. Smile. Be friendly. Greet people who walk through the door. They are there to support you by giving you MONEY. 'Hey! How you guys doing?' It's easy. Practice. 2) fix the holes in the bathroom doors. Do a little maintenance. Paint. Spackle. Anything to show you care. 3) get rid of that rancid oil! The stench upon entering is overwhelming and anyone who recognizes that smell knows you don't want to eat the food that is cooked in it. 4) do something with the menu. Offer some decent bar food. You know better than I what that would be. 5) have some decent drinks. Top shelf tequila and decent wine. Do these items and you'll launch and it will be a fun place for people to go who want to do more than just slam beers. read more

Place sucks! Environment is dead and the place seemed like a library.. My 4th time coming here and this place wasn't as fun as the first 3 times. Douchebag owner fired all the cool bartenders.. drinks cost more now then they ever did. Brought 1 double sex on the beach gave them a $20 only got back $6 which was surprising but the change layout sucks. Gave me back a $1 and a $5 so I tipped a $1 lady bartender didn't like that ahaha but oh well I would've tipped $2 but they change layout is shit. Shady. Disrespectful. I want to like this place. I think it has potential, however, they consistently miss the mark. In a Big way. The bar is nice and long, yet not comfortable or friendly. Conversations dull. It is small, dark and the tables, chairs & 2 pool tables make it cramped, uncomfortable & awkward. Bathrooms uninviting. Reports of the men's bathroom with no stall. So you can make friends while one sits & one stands during business. Who needs privacy anyway. This time it wasn't that they cut me off upon arrival because I'm adhd and energetic with a fantastic personality ;) (they have a history of prematurely cutting sober patrons off for being too happy or excitable). We had a gift certificate (only reason we went back). A true coffee nudge is brandy, coffee, and Kahlua. Mine came with Bailey's. Instantly not the bartenders best friend. She was confident to argue, but only passive aggressively. The burger was an overcooked dry, hard to swallow patty. I was informed with a constipated look, that they came frozen that way - therefore, offering a fresh one was worthless. I said no thank you. My basket was tossed and she walked off. without asking if I wanted my fries. :/ so, uh, ok. No food for me I guess. 2 stars are for not charging me for the bad 7-11 equivalent burger. We were hopeful, but not surprised. Here's the disappointment,... I left my phone at the bar. I called it 3 times- from husband phone. No answer. Also, lock screen instructed "if found call..(husband phone).." I knew where it was, and now in panic mode, I rushed back. You all know that feeling? When I arrived, she looked at me as though she didn't know me or what I was talking about and asked me to describe it. It was at the far side of the bar, on the counter, sitting in front of patrons. As I left I heard them, including the young rude blonde bar tender laughing. I was less than delighted to find a photo taken (included in review). I just wish it was not blurry. While I'm a joker and love a good prank, and to a degree see the humor, these were not friends, and in a whole, a now bitter experience. I like dive bars. Having lived in Chicago and Portland, I've done my share of dive bar drinking. So, I'm new to A-town and decide to give this place a go. The Anchor Inn has the classic facade of the old tavern in your neighborhood. It's located right on Commercial Ave and welcomes you with a Rainier neon. But, that's where any goodness ends.... When I went in on a nice, sunny Friday afternoon, the record stopped. There were 4 crusty pirates at the end of the bar playing dice on the bar. The guy with the eye patch and the guy with the peg leg gave me the evil eye. But, screw those guys, I'm sitting down and drinking.... I look up from the bar to the back wall looking for their tap selection. The bar wall is actually a wall of mishmash bumper stickers that literally takes up the whole wall. There's a small metal box in the middle of this huge wall with 2 taps, Yep, 2. Bud and Bud Light. So, I get my Bud served in a frozen pint glass and sit down for my drink. I decided to pound this beer and get the hell out of here before I was shivved by one of these frikin' pirates. The building has had a For Lease sign on the side of it for a year. How does this place stay open on the main commercial avenue serving Bud? Quench your thirst my friends. (but not here) Cheers. read more

Decided to make this our first stop out one Friday night. Walked in with a group of 5-6 friends, jovial, laughing and cutting up as we crossed the threshold. I walked up to the bartender and asked for a bottle of Coors. Bartender says, "Nah man, you look pretty wasted. I'm not going to serve you. You need to leave." So, I complied. Recently bought by a new owner and upgraded to sell liquor and some food, this DIVE bar is a great example of the olde worlde dive bars from times past. The clientele are friendly, the beers are cheap. Seriously, you can't go wrong. What kind of place were you expecting when you walked in? After reading PJM's review, I was really excited to check out the Anchor Inn. I mean - PIRATES! Sadly, the place seems to have changed a bit after the ownership change because not one ARRRRRRRR, peg leg, parrot or shiv was part of our visit last Thursday. On the upside, there was a much better beer selection than previously reported, healthy pours at good prices, a super-friendly bartender and regular customers and a bit of the ambiance lingering about the place still. Highly recommended for a casual drink in a small sea-faring town. Note to PJM: if you "like" dive bars but complain about the seedy characters and lack of micro-brews, you don't really know what a dive bar is. read more

Pros: If you're looking for an easy place to hang out, have some drinks, & play some pool, this is it. The food is simple and really good, the crowd is friendly, and the drinks are great. Cons: People tend to crowd the pool tables as there's only two. Beers are a tad expensive compared to other places. Parking is a bit limited. Summary: I love it despite its cons. I can think, have a conversation, and enjoy a few drinks without fighting for seats or shouting for conversation or service. read more

I've been a regular here for about 3 years. I love this place, it's staff, and it's prices. The drinks and bar food items are great. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The prices are cheaper than just about any other bar in town with an awesome selection. What really sets this place apart from everywhere else is the atmosphere. There is no other comfy dive bar in town with cheap pool and shuffleboard where you can just kick back and have a good time for hours. It is somewhere you WANT to stay and hang out. The long-time regulars are like a family. As a female, I am confident that I can feel safe here because the staff is always watching and making sure everyone is having a good time. Trouble-makers are cut-off and asked to leave. There is rarely drama here. I will continue to spend my time and money at the Anchor. There is no where else I'd rather go! read more

I've never been on Yelp to write a review but this place deserves a little warning to people today. First of all, I've been to this bar many times over the last 14 years, never had a problem. Before or after the current owner bought it. It's a dive bar, I like dive bars. The prices are a little high here for a dive bar since it changed hands but whatever, I was there to spend money and was in good spirits just having gotten off work on a nice, sunny Monday evening. I met the new owner for the first time today. He's owned it for several years now fwiw. I got off work nearby and I was meeting 6 friends there for a few beers after work. We do this at the Anchor for a week stretch a couple times a year at most. When I walked in I was greeted well by the owner and he asked what I'd like, I replied a couple of PBR's. He asked, "who's the other one for?" I thought that was a strange question but happily told him they were both for me and that I'd like a glass please. He reached for the beer, brought me one and said he'd serve me one at a time, strange but I agreed and again, 'whatever' I'm thinking. I handed him a $20, when he brought me the change he said,"I charged you for both of them, come back when you want the next one." I agreed and left him a $1 tip. I drank most of my beer and went in for the other. Waited for bit, no one was tending the bar. After a minute or two I thought, I've still got a little left, I'll go back and finish my beer and come back. So I did. A short while later I saw a couple going for a beer so I followed them in, as mine was now gone. We all cozied up to the bar and still crickets in there. I say to them, "they need a bell in here at the bar" and slapped the bar like I was ringing a counter bell. Not too hard mind you, but I slapped the bar. It was all in jest to my fellow thirsty patrons, no harm or ill will intended at all. Well here he comes out of nowhere right away and he gives me a look, like before with the 2 beers thing, but then is friendly and after hearing my request for the beer he seemingly happily gives it to me. Suggests I may want a new glass to which I declined and said, "this one's cold", which is what I always do everywhere. I return to my friends, who have spent a good sum on shots and beers for themselves and are prepared to spend more. But apparently that little comment about the bell, he apparently heard it. And it didn't sit right with him... He must have been stewing about it since I left because I wasn't back outside for more than a few minutes when he came out and approached me. He asked me if the can was empty, as if to clear the empties from the table. I replied, "no" as I'd only poured 3/4 of it into my glass. Then he says, "If you want to get service at the bar you don't need a bell, you can ask me by name, Jeff(?)" I may be wrong on his name b/c this is when everything went sideways... Now in any normal bar this would have been a good laugh and get to know you type thing. But not here, he was pissed. So I said to him that I had gone in twice. I wasn't being a dick or confrontational about it just stating a fact. Never once did I raise my voice or swear in any way. I didn't mention that he already charged me for a beer I went in twice for when the joke was made, in his absence. My friend told me he waited 10 minutes to get his first beer when he arrived. I didn't bring that up or give any guff later. I got there last and got lucky I guess...... So anyway, he lunges back over to the table from the garbage can where he just had disposed of my first beer can. He grabs my beer glass dumps it into the garbage and tells me to get the F out of his bar. So I did, and so did all of my friends and probably the best table he would have had all day. We would have been back all week! It was crazy. I'm not accustomed to being ejected from bars. One beer in? This guy has some kind of personal issue going on and I don't think I or any of us had anything to do with it other than being on the receiving end of his bad day. He basically stole $3.50 from me plus the $1 tip. Which I sure wouldn't have given him if i'd known what he was about to do. He lost 6 local customers for life and their spouses and everyone they know. I felt really blessed when my friends said they were leaving to and walked out with me. This guy's an idiot, he'll be lucky to get through another year. If the owner is reading this, you need a bell dude ;) If you're going to abandon the bar and lurk just around the corner listening ad infinitum, get a bell. It's not rocket science, it's a bar. You serve drinks, right? 17 years bartending? Really?? That's amazing. You're a nut case. A know-it-all hot head and it's going to catch up with you one of these days if it hasn't already. Yes, maybe it is a dive type bar to most. Although, in all honesty I would not call it that. I always stop in for a beer when I'm in town, usually a nice crowd around and the service is always pretty good. While I would not be considered a regular by any stretch of the imagination, I have never seen any of the poor behavior noted by some of the reviews. While all the yuppies grind past each other on busy nights downtown, I think the Anchor is great little dive up Commercial with a bunch of beers, pool, darts and karaoke on certain nights. You can hand with locals and transplants. Staff is always super friendly (way more so than the Lantern, and without the "bouncer"). Great place. My favorite bar in A town. read more

Always stop by the Anchor Inn when in town. My Dad was a bartender here over 60 years ago and the place has not changed much since then, haha. Well at least the people have not. Always a friendly crowd from my experience and the bartenders seem to know someone from my family. That is a great small town feeling in Anacortes where so much has changed over the last 20 years.
