The entrance is delightfully well-done, and our faces lit up when we walked into the bar - intricately detailed and authentic enough that a '20s dress code could be reasonably enforced. But I wasn't thrilled with my selections. The Rum Punch was served at room temperature and the jalapeño popper chicken sandwich was drier than the description suggested. My partner got the Jalisco Fizz, which she says paired well with the mushroom pasta, and really enjoyed the salmon deviled eggs. At $11-14, the drinks are priced well, but the food is overpriced. The jalapeño chicken sandwich was not a $23 sandwich, and a tempting lobster/shrimp roll was listed at $35. Overall Speakeasy Saloon is worth making an evening of. Dress up and sip on whiskey drinks in the low light with loved ones.

The atmosphere at Temperate Habits is very nice, there is outside seating but we sat inside due to the bright evening sun. Our meals took quite a while to arrive, I think we were at the tail end of the dinner rush and my guess is they have a small kitchen. My classic cheeseburger was about the most generic, predictable, and utterly boring burger I could imagine, and for $17 I would certainly not return for that or the mundane shoestring fries. The burger patty, bun, and fries were all non creative and the there was nothing even the slightest bit unique about my burger, in fact I swear it is the exact same burger that the Skagit River Brewery serves just around the corner. The surprise entree was the Crab and Lobster Tots, now whoever thought that would be good? The plate looked very strange to say the least but I have to say.... this dish was really good! So you'd think if they could create that total mayhem of a dish that they could get far more creative with the burgers and least have a house burger sauce or a higher quality bun for $17, something? I might return to Temperate Habits to have a drink with friends and share some tots, because they give you a large enough portion for four people, but I would certainly look elsewhere for a good burger. 5 stars for atmosphere and service, 1 star for the burger, 4 stars for the tots.

It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. (The shuffleboard could use a bit of sprucing up, to be honest...it's kinda warped but hey, that makes it fun to figure out I guess!) We usually just get a couple of beers, and they have several good ones on tap - including Manny's from Georgetown Brewing in Seattle, always a local favorite. They also have a full bar and, apparently (according to some Yelp reviews) they have food too, but I don't recall seeing any menus during our visits there. I will have to check it out next time! The service is always mega friendly, and the entire place is clean and not too "divey".

When we arrived, we were seated in their "Cove," which had been suggested by the woman who took our reservation over the phone as an intimate dining experience. My first impression of the restaurant was that I liked the "steakhouse vibe." However, the Cove where we were seated felt more like bar seating than an actual dining area. The tables were small--better suited for small plates and drinks, not a full dinner. We were greeted right away by our server. She was very friendly, but throughout the service, I didn't quite understand her dry sense of humor. I asked about the wine options, and she suggested a cab. I asked for a tasting, which I didn't think was an uncommon request before ordering a glass. She mentioned (possibly joking) that the first sample was free, but after that, they would have to charge me. I found that comment a bit off-putting and didn't feel encouraged to order a drink after that. Since they only had two cabs and I wasn't familiar with either, I didn't think asking to try one was unreasonable. I ended up trying her recommendation but didn't like it. At that point, I didn't feel comfortable asking for another sample, so I just asked her to check with the bartender and bring me whatever he recommended. I ordered the pork tomahawk, again based on her recommendation, and my husband ordered the aged New York. Shortly after, she returned to tell me the pork tomahawk had just sold out. Our reservation was at 5:30 PM, so it seemed early for a popular item to already be unavailable. By then, I was a bit over it and ordered the flat iron 8 oz marinated steak instead. While we waited for our appetizers, we were served bread rolls with garlic butter. Unfortunately, the rolls were very hard and dry--even the butter didn't help. Neither of us took more than one bite. We both ordered our steaks medium, but my husband's New York was definitely undercooked compared to mine--it was very red in the center rather than pink. After trying my steak, I thought some steak sauce might help, so I asked for A1. Our server told us they charge for their "house A1" sauce. Tip: don't order it if you're expecting traditional A1. It tasted more like barbecue sauce--too sweet and not tangy enough to resemble A1 (in my opinion). I didn't even use it after trying it, so it felt like a waste of $2. The food overall was okay, just not worth the price. My husband even said he's had better steak at Texas Roadhouse for half the price. My steak was around $35, and my husband's was about $56. The sides were good, but we've both definitely had better steaks. My husband mentioned his had a lot of tough, chewy fat that he had to cut around. We ordered two appetizers and two entrées, each with a starch and a vegetable. The steaks were disappointing, to say the least, though the sides were solid. I also couldn't even finish my glass of wine. Overall, it was nice to try something new, but I probably wouldn't go back. If we did, it would likely be to try their happy hour menu--especially the Philly cheesesteak. There's a lot of potential here, but the execution just didn't deliver. Definitely not special enough for a special occasion celebration.
