We were looking for a place to play some shuffleboard without having to drive all the way to Edison, and this spot popped up so we headed on over. It's funny, as many times as I've been to the Trainwreck (which is right next door) I've somehow never noticed Gene's! This is a cozy little spot, with a true friendly and neighborhood feel. The place is full of regulars, and has a couple of pool tables in addition to a nice long shuffleboard table. (The shuffleboard could use a bit of sprucing up, to be honest...it's kinda warped but hey, that makes it fun to figure out I guess!) We usually just get a couple of beers, and they have several good ones on tap - including Manny's from Georgetown Brewing in Seattle, always a local favorite. They also have a full bar and, apparently (according to some Yelp reviews) they have food too, but I don't recall seeing any menus during our visits there. I will have to check it out next time! Austin was a great bartender! We loved this bar by the RR tracks where freight trains would scream by. There's a nice spot out back by the tracks with a concrete slab you can rest on while you puff if you imbibe. We are shuffleboard aficionados and enjoyed the long table. The table needs some TLC, but most people wouldn't notice. Two level pool tables with good queues. read more

Legit dive bar, but a little too clean for a five star dive bar. Went there and sat at the bar, watched about 6-8 regulars do their thing. Very entertaining. I visit this bar quite often and always excited to have a good time and enjoy the night. Unfortunately, my experience was completely ruined by the way I was treated by the owner Lisa and a regular related by marriage. Apparently, my laugh was too loud for their liking, and they made it very clear that having a good time was not welcome here. Instead of addressing the situation politely, the regular yelled out stop fucking laughing it's annoying. When I apologized for having a good time and looked at LISA THE OWNER and she proceeded to say well it is annoying. the regular kept on with his rude comments and both were rude and condescending, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. It's a bar, for goodness' sake! People go there to have fun and let loose, not to be shamed for enjoying themselves. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good time. The atmosphere was ruined by the staff's poor attitude, and I left feeling confused, sad and disappointed. There are plenty of other bars in town where you can have fun without being judged or mistreated. Avoid this place if you want to enjoy your night out. the one good thing about the bar and kept us going back is AUSTIN. There's this white chick with darker straight hair that bartends here during the evenings/late night , she has a bit of attitude and likes to give rude little faces to people trying to order. If you pay attention well enough , she tends to always have a negative attitude, I've actually considered leaving no tip a few times as i personally have experienced her rude customer service . This bar is the absolute best bar in Burlington! The service here is phenomenal. Recommend getting the wings on the menu, they are the bomb! Bethany behind the bar is an absolute magician when it comes to pouring drinks. She'll always greet you with a smile and cracks some good jokes. Ask for a touchdown and it won't disappoint. I get dive bars. I really enjoy them. But this place really loses it in the customer service and management department. My first visit to Gene's was the evening of the first of February 2017. I came with family and friends from the Varsity and the Railroad Market. Things were just fine until one of the customer's kept coming up to me and spit on me as he spoke. I tried nicely to ask him to go away. He would do the same to 3 other family members. I forcefully told him to step away from me, as I was tired of his slurred speech and spit. At that point I asked the manager to have him stay away from me and my group. She responded that he was harmless. So I'm supposed to just let him spit on me? She refused to ask him to stay clear of my group. I paid my bill, less my usual generous tip and left. I came back this morning to talk with management, but I was dismissed and told I was the only one with a problem with this guy. So, drunk patron, annoying and management won't take care of the problem. This establishment has lost my business. My reviews and ratings of restaurants are very well received and accurate. Having been in the business years ago, I understand all the pitfalls and difficulty involved with feeding and entertaining the public. This was just unacceptable behavior on the part of a local establishment. read more

Great drinks, amazing service, everytime I come in everyone makes you feel at home and part of a family. They have specials for every day of the week. Everyone in there whether it be bartenders or customers are very personable and friendly with a jukebox, a couple pool tables and a shuffleboard to keep you entertained all the while. Insanely strong pours at this gem.lol If you want to listen to your own music on the jukebox and listen to it at the volume you choose, indoor or outside, this is a great place. Not much for food besides you're typical dive bar menu. Most of the staff is friendly, the owner Ron is a riot if he is in when you are there. Nice size beer garden. Right next to the Train Wreck bar and grill, so if you need some amazing food it's right next door! Genes has any bar around beat on drink prices and quality. What a great home town bar, all the staff is awesome and make you feel right at home. I would recommend this place. They have a bunch of pull tab games. A huge shuffle board table and a couple pool tables. Oh and they have a great little bar garden also!! read more
