It's a hot mess. Horrible bartenders and staff. however the prime rib was not to shabby once we agreed I didn't care how it was cooked so long as it was cow. cocktails are weak and expensive. it's definitely a dive but lacking in everything you go to a dive for. Great roadhouse feel, excellent service and food, fun taps, funny and fun little pool table, juke, darts, and a great outdoor space with horseshoes and (sometimes smokey, fair warning) atmosphere. This is a no brainer if you're looking for a dive and some solid local flavor. Worth the side trip off the beaten path, for sure! read more

There's a whole lot that can be said about Evelyn's. It would seem that Evelyn's is a local bar and Tavern. However, Evelyn is known throughout the western portion of the state. Their food is excellent, there's plenty of room. The staff is fantastic. I don't live anywhere near Evelyn's and I try to make it there once or twice a month. on sunny days or days that aren't raining or snowing. The outdoor area is large and accommodates a massive amount of people there's plenty of parking around the area. I just enjoy everything about Evelyn. I would invite anyone to experience it if you like the tavern style bar. If you want to just have a good time relax trust me go to Evelyn's. Their food is good. The people are great. The ambience is fantastic. And they allow bikers. read more

Food is amazing. It's rich but not rich like east of Idaho. It's fresh and delicious. Its service is also great with hearty portions. Service is outstanding. We were there with only two waitress for both indoor and outdoor. We asked how we could help. They said order your first at the bar and we'll be out. The service was top notch afterwards for such a think staff. The place was half full. Ambiance is amazing. Dogs are the owners or locals I think. Outdoor seating is not to be missed. Surprisingly good food (and less salty than most) and a very cool spot. Can't wait to come in the summer and hang outside.

I'm an avid motorcyclist and ride Hwy 9 and 530 and 20 quite often. Evelyn's is very biker friendly (as well as everyone else) and supports all kinds of charity causes. I try to plan rides to coincide with lunch at Evelyn's. They have some really good chow, especially now that they have upgraded kitchen equipment. I really love the Philly Grinder, but you can't go wrong with any menu item. I highly recommend stopping by there if in the area. read more

Our first stop for our own little Oyster Run the day before. It doesn't really matter because Oyster Run has become a weekend event all over the region. Evelyn's has a great thing going here. A nice outdoor area with horseshoe pits. Today they are populated with tables in anticipation of the bikers this weekend will bring. We like coming here as part of our South Skagit Hwy run we do in the fall. There's a colorful group of women sitting near us. They must work here because they are talking business. Beware people smoke outside. It's no big deal but I know some treat smoking like it's some kind of plague. The food is good but I keep it simple with their deluxe mushroom burger with potato salad. They have lots of beer to choose from and a full bar as well. read more

The Prime rib was exactly as each of us ordered. The service was spot on. The ambience is very community friendly. It may be a tavern. But didn't have a tavern atmosphere. It's understaffed. It's understaffed to the point where they acknowledge your arrival, invite you in and then entirely ignore you. Worse is that it seems that if you are ornery looking, like the group of Orks that came in well after me well, you get served immediately. I left. This is the best little bar right down the street. The service isn't going to be the fastest, but that's fine by me the ladies who regularly work are often friendly & once food is ordered it's a reasonable wait... Generally speaking, the foods pretty delicious! The pizzas are awesome wether you're eating in or ordering takeout! Definitely some of my favorite pizza around here if I'm being honest! Sometimes the fries are too seasoned, so I ask for less seasoning, but that's my only real 'complaint.' read more

Drove 40 miles for prime rib night. None of the waitresses would bother to say hello nor take an order. Super sad, we've had it before and it is good! The cook there truly knows what he is doing and it is amazing if you can get it from the kitchen to your table. Try Big Lake Grill down the highway. My sister and I stopped here for lunch on a weekday afternoon drive. One of our favorite roadhouse restaurants off the main trail places we have ever been. Heather took excellent care of us in the front of the house and Chef Billy was there to chat with us as well. We shared the Rib eye dip sandwich with fries and a pizza. The sandwich was an actual piece of steak (not slices) and was tender as can we and melted in my mouth. The pizza was a great blend of crispy and doughy. Billy gave us a tour of the place that had an outdoor beer garden with a large TV, grass area with picnic tables and horseshoe pits. They told us they have music usually during th summer out there as well as karaoke. For 2 old retired gals we felt quite comfortable there and very welcomed with charming hospitality. Say goodbye to the Applebee's and other chain restaurants and take a walk on the back roads and drop by Evelyn's for a drink and a bite to eat. read more

This is the best pizza in skagit or whatcom county hands down! The crust is perfect. The amount of cheese is perfect. The veggies are perfect. It is the diviest dive bar, but it delivers on food. Everything else smells amazing and the atomic poppers look legit. They also have some serious specials. Outback they have a fun outdoor seating with a bunch of smokers (which look like a good time!) and horseshoes as well as cornhole. Most times we come here the majority of the people are sitting outside. The draft beer selection is nice even though they tend to be out of a few things every time. We love the lake down the street. This is for sure our new spot after the lake! We love it here. read more

A "Dive Bar" in the very best sense. Good strong drinks, tasty food (with daily specials, freshly made each and everyday). Bloody Mary's on Sundays, Tuesday's Tokyo Tea (drink two and take a designated driver). Great clientele with anyone from locals to weekend warriors on their Harleys to the curious who have passed by and wondered about the place. Friendly staff. Parking can be tricky, but generally OK. Some neighbor friends recommended Evelyn's for pizza and beer, so we thought we'd give it a try. In the past, it's had a bad reputation as a rough place and still does, but we thought we'd give it a try. When talking with our server, who was excellent by the way, we learned that they've done a lot to improve their reputation. The place is funky! Not fancy at all. It has a beer garden with horseshoe pits! The beer is beer. Nothing fancy there. The pizza's are thick crust and tasty. It's worth a return visit. read more

Do not waste your money on this place. I have had just about everything on the menu and it is disgusting. Their pizza taste like frozen pizza, wing hard dry and hard, grinders horrible. The only thing that is decent there to eat is Prime Rib on Sunday. This place needs a new Chef he thinks he can cook he can't. I heard he use to own a restaurant the food there must of been terrible. My friend and I decided to stop in here a couple of months ago after going exploring up here! And we were in and out as quickly as possible. The staff were super rude and beret much came off as kinda racist towards me but thank god my friend was white and we were noticing their attitude towards me. But we were so hungry and just decided to snack really fast and just head back to civilization. Also the bartenders just weren't wearing a face mask at all and the other bartender who apparently is also a school teach straight up told us her mask was fake and so it literally was just mesh, what the hell. Never go here unless you want thumb size wings that are super dry and an overly salted pretzel and watered down drinks. Oh and of course don't go here unless you're, you know, white! read more

Evelyn's is back open and under new ownership! They have a full bar and fabulous menu, I had a Italian Grinder with potato salad on the side, it was amazing not some out of the box stuff...all from scratch. I recommend this little place to anyone that enjoys a good meal. read more

Heading south on 9 after skiing Mount Baker today, we were just looking for a pint and some food, and boy did Evelyn's deliver. There were a few locals when we walked in, and the bartender was on the spot, briskly helping us choose a beer from one of their ten taps. Lucky for us, it was Micro Monday, and the pints were only $3. The menu was simple and straightforward. A few apps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a bigger selection of pizzas. I had the Italian grinder, and my dad got the Philly grinder. We also ordered some "Greek stuffed mushrooms" which were amazing. They looked like something out of a cookbook with a caramel drizzle on the plate. The Philly grinder had an actual steak on it, and my dad ate it happily. My Italian grinder was twice as tall, loaded with three meats, peppers, lettuce, tomato, and very good sauce. Be aware that the buns on the grinders are extra toasted, helping them to stay together while you feast. The food was delivered by the cook, who I believe is the owner's son. We felt very welcome, even though we were just passing through, and played a couple games of pool on the 50¢ tables. If you're traveling on Hwy 9, don't mess around in Sedro-Wooley, just stop at Evelyn's. read more

You wouldn't think this small town bar would be a good place to grab a bite to eat, but oh my goodness time and time again does it surprise me! I've come in multiple times, and we've gotten pizza, pasta, and last night I got the Italian grinder. It was phenomenal! The best sandwich I've had, and my new favorite. The potato salad was bleh but the sandwich made up for it. Along with the delicious food, they have an awesome atmosphere. Great people, a live band some weekends, free pool if you can snag a table, and horseshoes! Love this little spot. read more

This was my first visit to Evelyn's. The place is on SR-9 in Clear Lake and as such is impossible to miss because this is a very compact business district. The tavern itself harken's back to simpler times. There is an ample bar and three pool tables inside, and if you go out back there are some horseshoe pits and a BBQ area. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. The night I was at Evelyn's there was a small band playing country, bluegrass and contemporary songs. The band was headed up by Bellingham resident, Laura Overstreet. Dan Dougin on the keyboard. There was also a tumpet player and a mandolin player who filled in on a few songs. The music was not overpoweringly loud so you could sit at the bar or a table and have a conversation if you so desired. I think this is a testament to good management. The drinks were healthy pours and reasonably priced. Good beer choices too. I also had an order of chicken wings but they were a bit over-sauced and a mess to eat. smile. My impression is that the bar food is a work in progress and I'm sure better and more offerings are on the way soon. The new owners (since January 2010) have done a very good job of turning the place from a scary biker bar into a nice little village tavern. read more

My wife grew up in the Skagit Valley. We have lived at Big Lake since 1999, yet tonight was the first time either of us set foot in Evelyn's Tavern, ten miles from our home. It exceeded our wildest expectations. We went with friends, each of whom are LONG time Skagit Valley residents, and it was the first time at Evelyn's for all of us. Each of us knew of it from the days when it had a different reputation, a seedy reputation. But we'd all heard it had changed, and we all had been looking forward to the chance to give it a go. We'll all be back, frequently. We split a pizza: half "This Little Piggy," and half "Mad Greek." It was the best pizza I had ever had in the Skagit Valley. The place was hoppin' on a Saturday night, a mix of locals and bikers and old timers like the four of us. Service was friendly and fast, beer was cold, and again, the pizza. Yuh-um. read more

It's a total dive bar (in the best way possible). Cold beer and friendly service. We asked what was good to eat on the menu and the waitress said everything but go with the pizza. We were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious the pizza was. Great thick crust, dripping with cheese, and homemade marina sauce. We are hooked!!! read more

You know, we live a few miles from here, and drive by it all the time. Last night we decided to stop in for a quick dinner and a beer. We did not have super high expectations as it's a small bar in a super tiny town. But honestly we had nothing but good things to say the entire time we were there. We had a couple draft beers and a couple prime rib steak dinners. The dinners were only $9.99 and is probably the best food value in the area. Included a fresh large tossed salad, and baked potato. Fast service by a friendly server. We will definitely be back, maybe to check out the live music on weekends. read more
