Going to go ahead and say it, Lava Louie's...FIRE. We came in for a half marathon and ate here the night before. We were so so happy with the food. It came out hot and ready and the woman who served us was very nice. The inside is definitely unique. Feels like it turns into a club at night but hey we just needed some good food and we got it. Cheers!

fried mac and cheese and garlic knots

Really impressed and pleased with this place. We came early on a weekday for lunch, so the place was fairly quiet in the main dining room. There were several customers playing pool in the other room. The waitress served us promptly and with friendly service! The ambiance feels like a bar, but wow I was really delighted with the food. It was just amazing, totally delicious. The fried mac and cheese bites I will be thinking about forever, I wish I had this place in my own town. The fries were very good and the garlic knots were also very good. The fish and chips was great! If I ever come back to Oak Harbor I would definitely want to stop by here again, and if I lived here I am sure I would be a regular.

I heard that a new pizza joint was open where Oak Harbor Lounge used to be. So, I decided to walk down Pioneer and experience Lava Louie's Pizza. The inside was worn, but clean. It was quiet inside, probably because other than me there were only two customers. I decided to sit at the bar and order my food from the bartender. After looking at the menu I decided to order the Ring of Fire pizza. I enjoy spicy food and was prepared to be disappointed at the spice level even though the ingredients are pepperoni, sausage, jalapeno, and habanero! I am very pleased to say that not only was I NOT disappointed at the spice level, but the pizza was nicely cooked and tasted great! I was also pleased that the background music all seemed to be classic rock from the 70's and 80's, my favorite genre of music!! I had a very enjoyable lunch at Lava Louie's

Club Club House Sandwich

Came for lunch, we hadn't been here since the new ownership/renaming of the restaurant. Menu pricing is high, even for inflation, not sure how a sandwich with fries can cost $20? I had the turkey club. It was the most dry sandwich I've ever had in my entire life! The bread was toasted to a crisp, the bacon was so crunchy and brittle. There was no flavor. Fries were good though! My husband had a small Caesar salad and ordered 6 wings. The wings were flavorless and soaked in a pool of grease! The waitress was nice but only checked on us once briefly. We also waited 30 minutes for our food in a completely empty restaurant. My husband couldn't eat the wings as they were totally soaked in oil and luckily the waitress took them off our bill. Was hoping to have a good experience as we've heard good things about this place and rarely try new spots, a huge bummer! We won't be back.

Sausage, mushroom and pepperoni 8 inch.

Ok, I am not comparing this to upper East coast pizza. I ordered their mushroom, sausage and pepperoni pizza and it was loaded with all of the above. Not too much sauce and it is a solid pizza. Hands above the chain pizza places in Oak Harbor. The interior is... Reminiscent of a dive bar but that aside, solid pizza and definitely the best in Oak Harbor.

Tasty Chicken Alfredo... with more garlic knots!

I'm going to start with the negative just because it was that bad... and despite how bad it was, everything that followed was AMAZING! THE SALAD... don't get the CAESER SALAD... should you feel compelled to get the salad because you want fresh and healthy greens to go with the pizza... maybe get your greens baked into your pie?! They might be healthier! The Caeser dressing was about as thick as pudding and applied in such an amount that our salad ate like pudding! I don't know what went wrong, but it seemed like the dressing sat out long enough that it evaporated and just left a gloppy paste like substance behind... or somehow they double...nay... triple dressed my greens... two days ago. There, enough said... they were awful... don't get a salad... but if you do... ask for light dressing or dressing on the side. Also, croutons, although made from their garlic knots...were rocks. Even with soaking in dressing... they were not edible. Now, everything else was FANTASTIC! The stuffed garlic knots are LEGENDARY! We killed a dozen in no time flat and wanted more! Pasta dishes and crap salad came with plain garlic knots... so that helped redeem aforementioned salad. The pasta was cooked perfectly... sauce was a bit thick but tasty. Now the pizza... whoever is back there slinging the dough is killing it! Fantastic crust... soft and crisp with a nice chew! I would be happy eating a plain crust (see previous notes regarding garlic knots ! Then come the toppings! We had three different options at our table and all were really good! My favorite pizza combination has always been Pepperoni and Jalapeño! The aptly named RING OF FIRE quickly caught my attention as it added habanero to the mix...I did not fully contemplate what the repercussions were... I mean, yeah... I'm getting a habanero pizza... but I didn't really think about the fact that I was eating a HABANERO PIZZA! And they weren't playing around... not only was there a mountain of jalapeños on each slice... but lots of habanero slices to boot! Rarely does an attempt at hot and spicy perform so well! I hurt...I may have cried a little...I may have decided at 3 am that I'm too old for this shit... but at the end of the day... we thoroughly enjoyed all things baked! Just avoid the salad...

The best pizza!! Old school recipes that do not disappoint - you HAVE to come here if you're in town!

(And they had a nice, covered outdoor patio seating area, where our dogs were welcome!) However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! They do have beer and pizza -- but we opted for the salad (healthy) and the Pork Belly (perhaps not so much). Both were five-star delicious! And the view from the patio is also pretty darn nice. We'll be going back!

What's not to like, right? Well... We ordered the sausage and added their garlic mushroom special topping. While the crust had just the right amount of char, it was really chewy. It may be grown and milled locally, but it lacked the crispness and airiness of a good Napolitano pizza crust. Also, we paid an additional $8 for the mushrooms. There were minuscule amounts on our pizza. There wasn't that much of sausage, either. We ordered a glass of Sangiovese and another of Tempranillo. They were imported and fairly acidic. Why not take advantage of the great WA wines? The guy handling the orders (dark hair and a good amount of ink) was great. He apologized that they had just run out of the Walla Walla onions we wanted to add to our pizza. He gave us a reasonably good estimate of the wait time. When we finished our wines and decided to change our dine-in to to-go, he made it happen with no issues, despite dealing with a long line of people placing orders.

There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.

The space is cozy and a good vibe for a date night. We loved both of the dishes we tried, especially the scallop risotto. All the seafood was fresh and cooked really well. The miso cod had the perfect crispiness on the skin and the scallops were perfect. All the tabloids went really well together. The cocktails were not bad, but not our favorite part of the meal. Everyone was super friendly and we really appreciated that our server knew exactly when to check in and give us space. He also picked up on the fact that we wanted to share all the dishes so he brought them out one at a time. When we ordered dessert he added in a candle since he knew we were celebrating and brought out extra dessert wine and goodies too! We appreciated the attention to detail :) Definitely a must try in Whidbey!
