We also added a catfish fillet on the side. My husband went big with the 7-piece tenders, fries, mac n' cheese, toast, and crack sauce. For drinks, we tried the mango lemonade and watermelon lemonade. The portions were beyond generous everything was so delicious that we couldn't even finish, though we definitely tried! The chicken was crispy, juicy, and cooked with care, and the mac n' cheese was rich and comforting. The service was just as amazing as the food. I've seen some reviews mention the wait time, but honestly, the 20-25 minutes was more than worth it. Everything is cooked fresh to order, and you can taste the love and soul in every bite. We did a takeout order this time via online. Their chicken fillets are amazingly tender. I wish they separate the fries from the chicken so they'd stay crispy but since it's a takeout, they just place everything in one container which I don't have a problem with except they could have use liner between them. I had the opportunity to visit Hale's Kitchen during their "soft opening" on Tuesday (02 August). Since it was just a soft opening, they were running with a limited menu. I chose to order the Shrimp Po'boy and fried pickle slices. I thought the po'boy was excellent. Everything from the hoagie roll to the fried shrimp, and the delicious sauce used in the po'boy was great! Unfortunately, I thought the fried pickles were a little soggy. I'm hoping that was a result of being in a new space and not having everything set up yet. We'll see if they can get it right after the Grand Opening this Friday (05 August). I am looking forward to seeing the new Hale's Kitchen up and running full steam ahead. It looks like they have a great little space. They even have a bar alcove in work in the back of the restaurant. When I asked about it I was told that the bar will open, but probably not in time for the Grand Opening. read more

Dropped in here to have a quick bite on our travels across the island. Very quiet and calm inside. A quaint place with a peaceful ambience. Wait staff is nice. Ordered the shrimp, my wife ordered the Po boy and son in law the chicken n waffles. I was not really excited about the breading used on the shrimp. A little too thick for liking. They had some major issues in the beginning as most restaurants do but the food has been consistently great. This is some of the best macaroni and cheese I've had from a restaurant and the chicken is always well seasoned and consistent. They always add extra pieces to the generous portions. We went for the soft opening after seeing that it was southern based. Being our 2nd day coming from the south, comfort would is always a go to. We set up reservations, ordering went smooth. I want to start off by saying the sweet tea is on point, and I would buy it by the gallon. Unfortunately the Mac n cheese and tenders were served cold, they informed us that a new batch just came out of Mac n Cheese, it tasted much better hot. I didn't bother with tenders, as I wasn't really impressed with how they looked compared to advertised photos. It's a soft opening so I'm not judging the food quality too hard. However the two younger ladies on staff were gossipy of customer's that we easily overheard. I understand being particular about where people stand while ordering, but it's unnecessary to complain about it with guests still dining in. This store front restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Doesn't look flashy outside, but coke inside and you will be greeted by a lovely person at the front who will take your order. We ordered to-go in the evening Saturday night. We tried the chicken sandwich, fried pickles, 2 piece chicken, and fries. The chicken sandwich was ok. The quality of the bun and the pickles was above average. The sweet tea was delicious, we bought a gallon and they had it ready and it was cold, refreshing, and tasted like the sweet tea I remember from the East coast. The chicken was extra crispy like the oil could have been changed or maybe it was in the drier too long. They gave us a heavy portion of fries, which were amazing. The honey BBQ sauce was delicious! The main course food is excellent and very reminiscent of Zaxby's for those who are familiar. I've been in about three times now and the food has always been delicious. So far I've only tried the chicken with various sides. Kudos on delicious okra! I tried the strawberry crunch cake and was very disappointed. It obviously came from a box and was super dry. See if you can get recipe's from The BBQ Pitt, that lady knows how to make southern desserts right! One complaint is that on every visit I've had to wait quite a while and, even on one occasion, practically harass the waitstaff to get our drinks and even silverware. It doesn't seem like there are sections assigned so no one seems to know if you've been taken care of or what. Also, the music is stupid loud and very heavy on the bass, so it's difficult to hold a conversation while you eat. I'm trying to eat dinner, not attend a rave. It's a pretty small space, is there really need to two speakers turned up so loud? We went to Hale's Kitchen as a family and had a pleasant time. The service was friendly and attentive, we got our food in a timely manner, and the dining area was clean and welcoming. It was spacious enough and not too formal for us to be able to bring in our stroller with infant seat so baby would be able to sleep through the meal. One thing to note is that they don't have a kids' menu, but it is not a problem because there are plenty of items on the menu that are great for kids! We really liked the chicken and fries that we ordered for our kids. The chicken was very tender and breaded really well and very crispy, though it would've been nice with a little more seasoning. I found it necessary to dip the chicken in sauce for the flavor. Speaking of sauce, I really liked the crack sauce. Definitely recommend that! My spouse's family is from Louisiana, so we've been there a few times together and I've eaten my fair share of fried chicken and shrimp po' boys. I would have loved the po' boy I got at Hale's if the bread had been fresh. Unfortunately, the bread on my po' boy and my spouse's was quite stale, dry, and hard, so when we took a bite of the sandwich, everything came tumbling out. It was difficult to eat! I had to eat my sandwich open faced because of the bread situation. If it weren't for the stale bread, it would have been a great po' boy: perfectly fried shrimp, tasty sauce, big slices of tomato, chopped lettuce. If I could guarantee that the bread were nice and fresh, I would order another po' boy from Hale's Kitchen in a heartbeat. I'm sure this is just a small kink that needs to be ironed out since they are such a new restaurant. We are excited to have a Southern food restaurant in town.
