You have to upcharge me on a TWENTY DOLLAR SYSCO SALAD?! I grew up on the island, so I am not some tourist who doesn't understand the prices here. I took my kids to eat here on a Sunday evening after a long day thinking it would be cheap quick diner food. It was over a hundred dollars for one adult and two kids to eat a basic diner meal- we had butter noodles, a grilled cheese, fries, and a 3pc fish and chips with 3 fountain sodas. NEARLY A HUNDRED DOLLARS BEFORE TIP. And their tip system had the nerve to ask me to add 20/25/30% on top of the outrageous prices?! It was insulting. I am not someone to complain about prices generally, but I had dinner for two adults at a fancy south end restaurant a few nights ago and we each had wine and it was about the same price. I was sincerely shocked by the prices for incredibly mediocre food. It almost felt like they were trying to prank us, honestly. Definitely do not recommend. The island has a lot of excellent restaurants that charge fair prices. This is not one of them.

It was crispy and some people like it that way but it looked like it was dehydrated. I enjoyed my chicken fried steak. It was cooked perfectly and the gravy tasted yummy. Not salty and good taste. I was not a fan of the house potatoes. It needed some kind of seasoning. The eggs were cooked good. Overall, this is a great spot for brunch that can accommodate large groups.

I'll start by saying the fries were perfectly cooked and I thought they had a good flavor to them. The burger was also good. I asked for the inferno sauce on the side, cause the burger already has jalapeño on it, and boy am I glad I did. The sauce was too hot for my liking. No biggie just kept it off, it tasted great without it and wasn't dry or anything. I will definitely go back another time.

Based on my own experience, he previously came into the bar when he didnt work there and frequently made young women uncomfortable by hitting on freshly 21-year-old customers and staring at people from the corner and makeing nasty comments . Now he's working security and using his phone while checking IDs, which did not make me feel comfortable. I know this man and im not letting him take photos of my id for his stash. The atmosphere has completely changed. What used to feel like a neighborhood bar now feels like an over-policed club. Security constantly follows customers around, making it impossible to relax and enjoy yourself. On top of that, the security guard regularly smokes in the entrance, blowing cigarette smoke toward customers as they walk in. It's unprofessional and creates a terrible first impression. From what I personally observed, many of the other employees seemed frustrated with the behavior of these two staff members as well. After more than a decade of being a loyal customer, I'm extremely disappointed in what this place has become. I can't recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of better bars that treat their customers with respect.

I was looking for the best fried chicken that I could find in the area! This chicken is the best that I have tasted in Washington and frankly anywhere that I have traveled. Hal's always had a larger burger patty, and a larger than normal high quality burger bun, this has changed, the entire Deluxe Cheeseburger has shrunk, the taste is much saltier, the buns are smaller and cheaper, and the burger patty is smaller as well, and of course prices have gone up, which I can't knock them for. Now there is nothing special or unique about Hal's, I can get the same burger, if not better, a mile away from my home in Mount Vernon, and for $2 cheaper. Hal's still produces a good burger, with friendly service, but I will no longer make Hal's Drive In a regular stop to look forward to when I am in Sedro Woolley. Thanks Hal's for 40 years of far above average burgers, all things must come to an end eventually.
