Best Mexican restaurant in La Conner. Beautiful, very colorful decor. We've come here over the years and the food is constantly good. Our server was very nice. Food arrived in a timely manner. Definitely worth stopping by.

I wanted to love this place but my experience left me wanting. When I was planning my trip, I knew I wanted to have a Mexican meal in La Conner and there were only 2 Mexican restaurants there. I decided on this place based on reviews and it seemed more homely and not as modern as the other one. Maybe it was me arriving in a neither here nor there timing. Due to traffic conditions to La Conner, I was there around 330 pm for a super late lunch. There was only 1 other table occupied and there were 2 staff on duty. The first impression was the server did not seem like she wanted to be there. Then it took a while before she came over to get my order. I had to walk to the bar/kitchen area to catch the attention of a staff when I wanted my check and a to go box. When I left, nobody acknowledged it. Not sure if they even noticed it. So the service definitely could be better during the off peak hours. The food was mediocre. It was tasteless yet salty. I know, strange combination. I could only taste salt and none of the flavors of the food. Even the salsa for the chips was very mild tasting. I always like chile verde and I had it at another Mexican restaurant a few weeks before this in Bellingham, and that was pretty good. So it was quite disappointing to have this version. The portion was ok though the small scoop of guacamole and sour cream was quite pathetic. Overall, it was just not a pleasant experience here. I definitely will not be back. And the kicker was an extra $0.50 charge if you use card payment.

Table side guacamole with the Santo fajitas

This place is amazing! Highly recommend if you are in the area. A local recommended this family own restaurant. We stopped by here after the tulips and we're not disappointed. The fajitas come with all the traditional accompaniments, including warm tortillas, fresh guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. However- the Santo fajitas come with Carne asada, prawns, chicken, spicy chorizo sausage with peppers and mushrooms. Each bite is a burst of flavor, with the ingredients blending. The key ingredient is the sauce they marinate the meats in. It is exceptional and unlike any other fajitas! This place offers a dining experience that is second to none, with great margaritas, table-side guacamole, and amazing fajitas that are sure to impress even the most discerning palate. Whether you're a fan of Mexican cuisine or simply looking for a delicious meal, this is one restaurant you won't want to miss. For a taste of Mexico that is truly exceptional, head to Santo Coyote and indulge in their great margaritas and amazing fajitas. Your taste buds will thank you!

Vegetarian Coyote Burrito - no cheese, no sour cream

This was a great find while visiting LaConner. The restaurant is very cute and festive. We were quickly greeted by friendly and professional staff. We ordered takeout - Veggie Fajitas and vegetarian Coyote Burrito with no cheese and no sour cream to make it vegan. The portions are huge but we managed to eat everything. The flavors were spot on with just enough spice to my husband's liking. If you are in the LaConner neighborhood for a weekend getaway, this is a must visit location.

    Carne asada!

So yummy! Amazing authentic Mexican food! Friendly and quick staff! LOVE THIS PLACE! Unbeatable chips and salsa, their rice and beans are also the best in the valley! We've been coming here for years!

Post Covid there is not much open in La Conner on a Tuesday night! Santo spared me the hunger cravings but given the reviews I have to say I was expecting much more. Let me start and say the chips tasted like they were made with old oil. It was the first time I've been presented with chips and salsa and I could only eat one! The tacos were decent but the carne asada didn't have much flavor. The avocado salsa saved the day so I could get through them. I really don't like leaving a two star review but other than good service there isn't much I can recommend...

Oli's platter. No sour cream or jalapeno.

I keep wanting to love and support this place. Stale chips on several occasions; watery & flavorless taco salad; hair in food dining in and lastly no sour cream on an expensive delivery order that clearly listed sour cream as part of the menu item has ended my relationship here.

The salsa was awesome as we're the fresh strawberry margaritas. We also had the cheese dip with chorizo, very tasty and not greasy at all. We then had the chimichanga special. Beef was really flavorful and not overly greasy as well. Beans and rice were very good as well.

    Wonderful chips and salsa

Place is quite charming, and food was nicely prepared. We were delighted that they were still open at 8 on a Tuesday night. Menu is vast.

There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.

We nabbed a 50's retro dinette table complete with a disco mirror ball creamer table decor. My younger niece loved the mirror ball! My older niece loves Reuben sandwiches so she had that with a side salad instead of fries. She said it was 5 stars. My younger niece had a grilled cheese with fries. She's a light eater but loved it. We carried half her meal home for later. Outstanding service, top quality food, and a fun atmosphere made it a special day after our visit to see the tulips. We highly recommend it. We were in and out in an hour but not rushed at all. Check out the Retro Diner! Their burgers and also breakfasts are outstanding too, as we eat there regularly. If you love milkshakes theirs are off the charts incredible. We were too full to get one after kettle corn and fudge before lunch while we strolled thru tulip fields. Also the outside is decorated with huge inflatable tulips so it's a great instagram selfie stop!

How I really wanted to like this place but was massively disappointed and feeling honestly scammed…read moreout of my money: This is a tourist trap and not a beloved local restaurant like I thought it would be. The cafe was very busy when we arrived and had to wait about 20 minutes for an open table out on the deck. Due to how busy it was, I had high hopes that the food was good. Unfortunately it felt more catered to the one and done tourist - take their money with over priced mediocre food that certainly did not command either aesthetics or taste. What we ordered: 1. Fried calamari $18: this was the smallest portion on an appetizer plate with three calamari rings and a handful of what appeared to be minuscule tentacle pieces heavily battered to give the dish the appearance of "more". Bland and oily - nothing really outstanding here. 2. Captain's Platter $28: this was the most expensive item on the menu. I ordered it hoping that at least quantity wise it would be satisfying. It came with one fried piece of cod, one fried piece of halibut, four fried shrimp and fries. I have never eaten more bland fries in my life. They weren't even crunchy but soggy with oil as they laid under the fried fish, which likely was hurriedly plated on the fries without letting the oil drip off. The fish was overcooked for sure - the cod was so small that I was honestly offended. The shrimp - undercooked. 3. Strawberry lemonade $5: standard, on the sour side. The only pleasant thing I have to say is that the hostess and waitress were very sweet. They were definitely understaffed and I felt badly for them so I tipped well. But I would not go back and do not recommend - unless you like to waste your vacation money on this tourist trap.

Affordable lunch burger and a beer? Yup. Fancy date night romantic dinner with craft cocktails? Heck yeah. Combining a casual, marine-themed ambiance with quaint La Conner vibes, and adding in some truly delish food and drink, there are few places in the area I'd rather eat. My favorite here is their bouillabaisse, with big pieces of fish, half a fresh Dungeness crab, sausage, and all the goodness cooked in their house-made broth. All I can say is: try it. Their raw oysters are also a favorite, but I can't say I've ever had a bad dish here. One time I swung out and tried their pork chop, which was truly sent from heaven. Their wine list contains several affordable options - on one visit our group enjoyed two bottles of an exquisite rose. And if gin is in your repertoire, don't miss the Empress Aviation which is not only pretty to look at, but quite tasty as well. Their happy hour features incredible drink and appy discounts, including half price bottles of wine. And I'd be remiss not to mention their friendly, lovely service.
