This place was a super nice find on Yelp. We just happened to be looking for an early dinner spot and these guys were opening right when we were looking. The staff here were super nice and attentive, even though we took a table outside. The burger I had was full of fresh ingredients and was a thick hand formed patty. It was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. My wife had the fish and chips and said they were the best she's had. While thinly breaded, perfectly crisp. There was a band setting up for evening music which would have added to the casual atmosphere. We were finished with dinner before they started. This place was delicious and I'm already trying to plan my next meal here. I had a jalapeno burger which was very flavorful, perfectly cooked, and came with a side of french fries that were perfect. This was our second time at Spyhop and both times we chose it because they are dog friendly and we didn't feel comfortable leaving our pup in the car on a warm day. We arrived right at opening on a weekday and were greeted warmly by the staff. We chose a table outside where our dog could comfortably relax. My husband ordered one of their burgers (with an egg on it) and I had a chicken sandwich with mozzarella and basil aoli. Their regular fries are fantastic, as was the fry sauce I requested. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and they even brought out a couple strips of bacon for our dog that I had requested. We came here for dinner knowing we might be late for the ferry, and from the moment we walked in, Carol , the hostess, took incredible care of us. She guided us to a table quickly, made sure our order was rushed just right, and the service was so warm and efficient. We absolutely loved the fried pickles--they were fantastic! I had the chicken burger, and my husband had the French dip, both of which were wonderful. Even though we had to take our food to go, the staff made sure everything was perfectly packed. We had been meaning to check out Spyhop for quite some time and we finally made it in for lunch on a Saturday. It was 1pm and we were seated right away. The beer list is a great mix of local brews and the menu has something for everyone. They have a kids menu as well (paper with crayons). My husband loved his burger and my wrap was full of flavor! In the small sea side town of Langley there are cute shops and walkable streets. Our group of five were passing through and did not make reservations at this obvious local favorite restaurant. This place was very busy, we had to wait for 30 mins. Bring a jacket, you'll probably be waiting outside if the bar is full. The communication and customer service was helpful and nice. The food was great, not a huge menu. Lots of classic sandwich and burger choices. I had the black bean burger, full of flavor with sweet potato fries. I would order this again. There is a sculpture in the corner that I think was supposed to be a squid, but my kiddo insists it was an eldritch god as imagined by Lovecraft, so interpretations will vary and might be a conversation starter in between the mouthfuls of burger that you'll be scarfing down. Three different burgers and they were all good - GREAT burger-to-bun-to-toppings ratio. Based on other reviews we each got a different side; onion rings (beer batter!), fries and tots - each were equally delicious; I was partial to the onion rings, but honestly the tots disappeared so fast I didn't get to try them. The rapid rate of their consumption makes me believe that they were a hit, but the fries didn't suck. An abundance of sides were offered; make sure to get the chipotle ranch, it's so good it could be a side dish. Service was SUPER friendly, super helpful, such a great vibe all around. Side note: there was a gentleman at the bar who was firmly in his own world, staring a million miles in into the abyss of his beer (just under the squid/eldritch, hmmm) and I couldn't help but think that this is the type of bar where you could feel comfortable as a single and engage with other patrons and staff, or not, and be welcome either way. This past Sunday I was visiting Langley for the first time and hoping to find a restaurant with outdoor seating because it was a gorgeous sunny day and I was with my dog, my kiddos and a local friend. We got to Spyhop too late to get a table, it was almost 3 pm, but they were gracious enough to take a to go order and we decided to grab it and eat on a nice grassy area that's right next to the restaurant. The cherry on top was the fact that they have cocktails to go and they were soooo good! We ended up ordering a second round. The bartender knew we were seating outside the restaurant and he brought us out drinks there before we went into the restaurant to get them. WHAT? That's was wayyy nice! Still rocking good eats and drinks, albeit with a limited menu during Covid. Good observation and execution of social distancing measures and cleanliness protocols by the staff - though not always so much by the customers (Langley summertime tourists still in evidence, as are those strange people that think a bar is a great place to bring their kids. I just don't get that). Call ahead to verify their hours. The fried pickles and onion rings make great snacks, and the burgers are well-executed and satisfying. The drink specials are actually special, and I recommend taking a chance on their bartenders' creative riffs of classics. I do wish that restaurants like this one that rock the disposable flatware would use more compostables and less plastic. I know we're all still trying to figure this out, and it's early days, but plastic waste adds to the problem. Plus: if you are using glasses for beverage service and sanitizing them, you might as well use real metal flatware and sanitize that as well, for sit-down customers. However you stand on the service-ware issue, be it known that the staff here is friendly and effective on the floor, courteous and patient with the Covid rules, constant addenda and changing circumstances. This is a great little spot. My wife and I moved from Ballard about three months ago and this has been one of our regular haunts. Awesome staff, great drinks, an OK beer selection and great food of the pub variety ... Chicken Strips, Fish and Chips, Burgers, French dip, etc. Their onion rings pass a variety of tests. You'll never get a hot onion falling out of the batter onto your chin for instance. And the flavor is great, as is the flavor of the Tater tots. He ordered a Whiskey Sour ($8) and I ordered the Elysian Stout ($6). That whisky sour was H U G E. Kind of made me regret my own decision. He ordered Fish & Chips and I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. I couldn't finish it. It was big and spicier than I had assumed. My own undoing. Good food just a little off by our server. She was probably having a very long day so I won't discredit the place in its entirety. The food was good but not at the top of what I have experienced elsewhere. We hadn't been on Whidbey Island for years. This place was totally unexpected. Great staff of people, but that starts at the top. They accommodated 15 of us. Our waitress was patient and kind, and she was on top of everything. Really great pub type food, and beers, but cocktails are also available. Fish and chips were great, My double bluff burger was phenomenal, fried pickles, wings, French dip sandwich, not one complaint about the food from anyone in our party. I am a huge fan of wraps and this place really hit the spot after a long drive and ferry ride to Whidbey. I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap without cheese and it was huge. I honestly could have probably split it with someone else because it came with a side of taster tots. Definitely keep in mind that portion sides are generous because I ended up saving the other half for lunch.
