We came here for dinner knowing we might be late for the ferry, and from the moment we walked in, Carol , the hostess, took incredible care of us. She guided us to a table quickly, made sure our order was rushed just right, and the service was so warm and efficient. We absolutely loved the fried pickles--they were fantastic! I had the chicken burger, and my husband had the French dip, both of which were wonderful. Even though we had to take our food to go, the staff made sure everything was perfectly packed. There is a sculpture in the corner that I think was supposed to be a squid, but my kiddo insists it was an eldritch god as imagined by Lovecraft, so interpretations will vary and might be a conversation starter in between the mouthfuls of burger that you'll be scarfing down. Three different burgers and they were all good - GREAT burger-to-bun-to-toppings ratio. Based on other reviews we each got a different side; onion rings (beer batter!), fries and tots - each were equally delicious; I was partial to the onion rings, but honestly the tots disappeared so fast I didn't get to try them. The rapid rate of their consumption makes me believe that they were a hit, but the fries didn't suck. An abundance of sides were offered; make sure to get the chipotle ranch, it's so good it could be a side dish. Service was SUPER friendly, super helpful, such a great vibe all around. Side note: there was a gentleman at the bar who was firmly in his own world, staring a million miles in into the abyss of his beer (just under the squid/eldritch, hmmm) and I couldn't help but think that this is the type of bar where you could feel comfortable as a single and engage with other patrons and staff, or not, and be welcome either way. In the small sea side town of Langley there are cute shops and walkable streets. Our group of five were passing through and did not make reservations at this obvious local favorite restaurant. This place was very busy, we had to wait for 30 mins. Bring a jacket, you'll probably be waiting outside if the bar is full. The communication and customer service was helpful and nice. The food was great, not a huge menu. Lots of classic sandwich and burger choices. I had the black bean burger, full of flavor with sweet potato fries. I would order this again. This past Sunday I was visiting Langley for the first time and hoping to find a restaurant with outdoor seating because it was a gorgeous sunny day and I was with my dog, my kiddos and a local friend. We got to Spyhop too late to get a table, it was almost 3 pm, but they were gracious enough to take a to go order and we decided to grab it and eat on a nice grassy area that's right next to the restaurant. The cherry on top was the fact that they have cocktails to go and they were soooo good! We ended up ordering a second round. The bartender knew we were seating outside the restaurant and he brought us out drinks there before we went into the restaurant to get them. WHAT? That's was wayyy nice! Good observation and execution of social distancing measures and cleanliness protocols by the staff - though not always so much by the customers (Langley summertime tourists still in evidence, as are those strange people that think a bar is a great place to bring their kids. I just don't get that). Call ahead to verify their hours. The fried pickles and onion rings make great snacks, and the burgers are well-executed and satisfying. The drink specials are actually special, and I recommend taking a chance on their bartenders' creative riffs of classics. I do wish that restaurants like this one that rock the disposable flatware would use more compostables and less plastic. I know we're all still trying to figure this out, and it's early days, but plastic waste adds to the problem. Plus: if you are using glasses for beverage service and sanitizing them, you might as well use real metal flatware and sanitize that as well, for sit-down customers. However you stand on the service-ware issue, be it known that the staff here is friendly and effective on the floor, courteous and patient with the Covid rules, constant addenda and changing circumstances. This is a great little spot. My wife and I moved from Ballard about three months ago and this has been one of our regular haunts. Awesome staff, great drinks, an OK beer selection and great food of the pub variety ... Chicken Strips, Fish and Chips, Burgers, French dip, etc. Their onion rings pass a variety of tests. You'll never get a hot onion falling out of the batter onto your chin for instance. And the flavor is great, as is the flavor of the Tater tots. I couldn't finish it. It was big and spicier than I had assumed. My own undoing. Good food just a little off by our server. We hadn't been on Whidbey Island for years. This place was totally unexpected. Great staff of people, but that starts at the top. They accommodated 15 of us. Our waitress was patient and kind, and she was on top of everything. Really great pub type food, and beers, but cocktails are also available. I have had the pleasure of meeting the owner's Dan and Susan many times. They greet all their guests and work right along side the employees.
