Saw The Odyssey. Good movie and the Oak Harbor theater has very comfortable seating. A few things could make for a better experience. Sound could be louder especially for a movie like this. Floors needed to be cleaned... left over food on the carpet from the night before. The soft drinks were warm with very little ice. No salt or butter on the popcorn and no way to add. read more

My wife and I saw The King's Man at The Oak Harbor Cinemas. The cinema completed a renovation during the Covid Lockdown of 2020 and this was our first opportunity to visit since the renovation. The biggest change, that I am aware of is the addition of Lazy Boy type recliners. The last three rows are all recliners and require an additional $5 fee to sit in these rows. I really like the chairs, but this theater isn't designed to work with these chairs. My wife and I were seated in the middle row of the recliners and we had some difficulty seeing over the top of the chairs in front of us. My suggestion is to try to get one of the recliners in the first row to avoid that problem. read more

Grandma and I came to Oak Harbor Cinemas in 2016 to see "Barbershop: The Next Cut" when it was first released in theaters. We arrived early and were two of the only people in the theater. Concessions were available and the theater was good on temperature control. Overall we both had a good experience, enjoyed the movie, and found the workers to be pleasant. More recently, we came to try and see "Jungle Cruise" in the summer of 2021 after it was released to theaters. We showed up before the start of the showing, as did a group of people who were there to see "Free Guy". All of us noticed the lights were off, checked online to find that yes the theater was advertised as open for the day, and then made sure to knock and double and triple check the doors just in case we were trying to open the door the wrong way or something like that. No sign was posted, and no one showed up. So Grandma and I, the other group, and one car that pulled up all ended up leaving because there was no communication about the spontaneous closure online nor on-site. Overall a mixed bag in terms of experiences at this Cinema. read more

Staff unless you are the head manager are not treated fairly or unless you kiss major ass. The owner John does not listen nor care and will dismiss you over others wrong doings. Many employees here have left due to this but feel silenced. Attacking emails. When you're are called out situations mostly for the safety of the employees you are "not welcomed" because Bella is uncomfortable which is wrong since she doesn't have a problem giving away free beer and gaslighting every problem cause if it's not about her good forbid. Hopefully they have their rat problem taken care of. Owner did not get an exterminator only advised to put rat traps so if you ever got sick sorry, If you didn't hopefully it was only a raisin. Maybe they have cameras now but just a heads up if anyone gets bored they don't have real cameras cause John didn't want to pay more. He only cares about money that is all The pipe work ya that goes into the sink that's supposed to be used for dishes yuck None of the guidelines are followed. I'm just saying if you're going to support a business make sure they actually give two sh*ts about the employee and customers and not just money. My first time patronizing Oak Harbor Cinemas, and I was very impressed! This complex has three cinemas. They're not very big, but the chairs are in great shape and comfortable! I was very pleased with the box office/concession staff. They worked as a team to take my order and were very friendly and welcoming. This facility is super clean, too. Haven't been here in over 5 years. Way to go on CLEANING this place up! Starting with the customer service, very friendly & popcorn was freshly popped. Restrooms were CLEAN, nice add with the motion activated trash can lids given the current COVID circumstances. New seats to include the VIP upgraded lazy boy recliners for a small extra fee. Being that I am from CA and not WA I am use to large scale theaters with modern Stadium Seating and 3D and all the other modern theatre amenities. However being that this is the only theatre in Oak Harbor and only 3 screens but it's nice. It's old style seating but they are larger than most theaters and still comfortable. Also the snack bar is well equipped and the theatre is not majorly busy and plenty of parking. They have specials and recommend to anyone in Oak Harbor or surrounding communities. read more

Saw Joker over here a week or so ago and they've done a TON to remodel the place. New flooring and a new beer concessions stand off to the left. Overall, making massive improvents to the facility. The staff is nice but sometimes I was left at the counter for a 2-3 minutes waiting for someone to attend the beer counter. Should get better with time though! My husband and I decided to give this place a try the other night, since he was dying to see a movie that just came out. I knew what this place looked like from the outside so my expectations weren't very high to begin with but we still went because it's close to home and we had a babysitter . First of all, I was a little shocked that the prices were the same as a "normal" movie theater.. The place was filthy and very much an eye sore at first glance..in the restroom I could hear dripping noises coming from the ceiling and my shoes stuck to the sticky floors. Have you ever dreamed about sitting inside a giant hamster cage while watching a movie? Well dream no more. Plaza Cinema aka "The only place in town" will bring your dream to life, all you need to do is sit back in one of their sticky chairs, close your eyes and breathe deeply in. The smell that assaults you is something both musty and primal, yet still holds dearly to that sweet "grandma's laundry basket / hamster shit" smell. Theater? small food? typical theater shit. prices? whatever. I have seen three movies here in 9 years, one just recently. The story remains the same, only the names and faces of the victims who have to endure the hamster cage change. I know it's pretty much impossible to keep a theater clean, mostly because 90% of us are wretched creatures who should not be allowed to leave our houses let alone sit in a public theater where we are expected to have some modicum of personal responsibility, but this place is just a little bit worse. I blame it on you parents who want to bring your fucking crotch fruit to see everything from Finding Nemo to 300. Times are tough, but some carpet cleaner goes a long way. then again, i have not subjected my self to a high level of abuse lately, i may just wander over there some time soon and catch a flick, just to keep current. read more

This is the second time this theater has come through for us! The first was when there weren't enough seats available for my son and I to sit next to each other. Not only did they bring chairs from the lobby in for our entire group to sit together, they gave my son a free kids concessions box!! The second time was today, my son and I went to see The Suicide Squad and my son has a habit of reacting when it goes dead quiet. Annoying, yes. But, I had just wispered to him, "People don't like it when others talk too loudly at movies they paid for." These people loudly told him, "God, shut up!" We ignored it. They the dude felt the need to come over, maskless, get two inches from an 8 year olds face, and say "If you can't be quiet I'm going to management and having them remove you." I told him to get out of my kids face, now and go to managment. He did, managemnet came in sat quietly in the front for a bit. Heard that nothing was out of the ordinary and left. These people a little later left, I assume because they didn't get their way. Their customer service is always top notch and resonable. I'm just sorry for anything they had to put up with from the Karen and Kyle that came out in public today. I was even going to ask to pay for the tickets, I'm sure they refunded this duo, however I didn't bring enough cash to do so. As usual I am happy with this place! read more

I dont even know where to began. I get that oak harbor only has one option for a cinema that is not a drive in. But for real!!! The seats are torn up, like literally torn. Not even an attempt to duck rape them. The rest room didnt even have soap in it. I have it one star because the customer service was good. I went to the the theater last night with 4 friends to see I Feel Pretty we had a Great time. I love the staff there they are always friendly. The manager i seemed very happy to see us at the theater. The popcorn is the best very tasty I still think it needs to be updated, new carpet would be great but the movie was good the sound was good we had a lot of fun. Just horrible. I really wish I could give it more stars and help support something local. The first time we went, everything is so horribly overpriced. The floors were sticky and littered with garbage and food and the chairs were pretty dirty. We decided to give the theater another go around and got a sitter for an 8:30pm showing of end game they were advertising on their website. We got there and they were closed. A younger girl came out and told us that she was sorry but they are closed and they can't figure out how to update their website but they weren't showing the 8:30 slot of endgame any longer. A ticket here is 11, the same as a ticket at the fancy movie theaters where I'm from (Denver), the Cinemark/Tinseltown chains. How do you get off charging $11 for a ticket??? If a ticket is $11 you can certainly afford to make improvements to this dump you call a theatre. It looks like a snack stand at a children's basketball tournament in there, but charges way more. This is a classic case of taking advantage of locals and tourists. Locals don't know any better and tourists fall victim to this scheme because this is the only theatre in town! Terrible seats. The Friday Matinee was quiet.- only about a hand full of people. The movie started and there was not any sound - guess projection booths aren't manned anymore - had to walk around and locate someone. I like that there is a quaint little place to watch movies every once in a while and yet I don't have to leave the island. I don't like that they want to charge the same prices are the really big movie theaters but only be about a third as good as them. I mean seriously. Normally when you pay $10 or more a pop to go see a movie, you say - well, you get what you pay for - but for here, that's not really the case. More or less you really only get about 1/2 of what you pay for. Unless they decide to charge less, or have a significant overhaul, I'll really only go when there's a groupon. read more

Went there yesterday for the first time. Got there a couple minutes late so was trying to find a seat in the dark during the previews. The seat I chose was broken and when I sat in it it felt like I was going to fall on the floor. I had bought a Medium Popcorn and it tasted funny. Don't ya love people who come to a rural setting and expect urban amenities? What a hoot. Whidbey Island is so beautiful, filled with trails, beautiful drives, beaches and quaint towns. A key noun is island. It is, however, Washington, and it does rain. So the theater...is fine. There are comfy seats with drink holders attached. There is plenty of leg room, I think. Large popcorn and drink can be refilled, even as one is leaving. The rest rooms are clean, as was the theater; we enjoyed the movie. What happened to this theater? You would be completely justified using the expression "sad shell of what it used to be" when referring to the OH cinemas. Growing up in Oak Harbor, I can recall a time when this place was popular, and there was a lot of activity on this street every Friday or Saturday night. I remember opening night of Independence Day here yielding a line so long it wrapped around the building, same with all the big opening night flicks in the 90s and early 2000s. I wont rip on poor little Oak Harbor cinema too bad, which is likely the victim of the changing times (most small, privately owned theaters are): Netflix, red box, $3 movies on base, and shopping mall cineplexes that have more convenient show times and better concessions. I went for a casual Sunday night movie to catch the Cinderella film 3 weeks ago. I was just saddend by the entire experience. The lobby was ran down, unfurnished and uninviting. The bathrooms were a bit of a disgrace. Most importantly, the popcorn (which they still charge an arm and a leg for) was so stale and disgusting, and just the little broken up kernels that form on the bottom of a batch. Another patron came out mid-movie while we were leaving to actually ask for new popcorn because it was stale. The theaters themselves are large, and I dont have a problem with the actual theater experience but it just feels "sad" in here..like you can anticipate it closing down soon. Lastly, the girl who was working the concessions was checked out and felt up RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AS I WAS ORDERING MY FOOD by who I believe is the manager as he walked to the back...! Whose name I do know but will leave it at that. This place doesnt have to be this way! Yes, its a small theater..they can no longer afford to get new movies every week (they play the same 3 films usually for over a month), but they can certainly improve on their popcorn, clean the place up and liven it up a bit. start with the concessions and lobby-they are a disgrace! read more
