We come here every time we're on Whidbey Island. The veggie burrito is especially delicious and loaded with pickled jalapeños. The beef cheek and lengua are cooked to perfection, which can be hard to find. The folks who work here are the sweetest, as well! Last but not least, their salsa bar. I was wanting a Mexican pizza, but once I got here I changed my mind and ordered a Torta al Pastor. The sandwich was made with pork, shredded lettuce, onion, tomato, avocado, mayo, and I think I tasted some jalapeño. An employee delivered my torta to my table within a few minutes of my sitting down. I thought it was quite tasty and enjoyed eating it. This is our favorite restaurant on the island hands down. We go here for the great caring service and excellent food. We have tried 1/4 of their menu and have not had a bad choice yet. I don't know why I took so long to try this place - I assumed it would be typical fast food called "mexican". I could not have been more wrong. Today I picked up lunch - two gorditas with carne asada for the meat. It was a LOT of food, plenty of tasty meat, and super fresh lettuce and tomatoes on the side. The best mexican food in Oak Harbor! The prices are a little bit steep but the portions are large, employees are friendly, and the hot sauces are absolutely perfect! The carne asada tacos and the birria tacos are my go-to items. They load the tacos full of meat, cilantro, and onion, which is exactly how good tacos should be. I'm from San Diego and appreciate the "hole-in-the-wall" Mexican drive thru spots, this one fits that concept perfectly. This is my favorite restaurant on the island. I regularly make the 45 minute drive to sit down and eat. I have been eating here for years and they are super consistent. The carne asada tacos are to die for and the rice and beans always hit the spot. Horchata is top notch. Unbeatable hours and the number of items on the menu is staggering. The staff is friendly and professional. Food comes out fast. The prices may have changed over the years, but the portions and quality have not. First off, let me say that I'm only giving it a four because I only ate ONE thing here and it wasn't very complex. However, that one dish gets a FIVE star rating, because, as simple as it was, it was outrageous. What did I have? A Quesadilla. Hubby and I left in the very early morning to start our trip toward Mt. Baker for a ski trip, and by the time we hit Oak Harbor, the piece of "road toast" we had on the drive had run out. I wanted to find something that was still kinda breakfasty, but since we were meeting up with someone for lunch I didn't want to overdo it. Right there, by the Safeway Gas, was the Taqueria. A shining beacon of warm food, just mere steps away. So, I ordered from the super-friendly staff behind the counter. They asked me what kind of meat I wanted, but since it was supposed to be breakfast, I went "queso only." This was a lovely portion of tortilla and cheese, crispy edges on the tortilla, warm gooey cheese in the center and...oh, the salsas! The salsas! I know it sounds campy, but you couldn't MAKE a better Cheese Quesadilla. It filled the whole in our bellies, cheered us immensely and made me VOW that the next time I'm in Oak Harbor, I'm coming back to try more. I even grabbed a menu that lives in my day planner as a reminder. My only quandary: what do I order next time? read more

Our first meal in our new home. Authentic Mexican, so tasty. We got Chile rellenos and chicken taquito plates. Ample sides (rice and refried beans), as well as guac and sour cream. Our food was ready quickly, and wrapped safely to go. Salsas are also amazing! They even have a drive thru if you don't feel like going inside to order. Busy and casual mexican fast food joint, no frills and feels very down to earth. The front counter lady was super efficient in juggling drive-thru orders, front counter orders, serving food, packing take-outs, and shouting orders into the back - all while being very nice and friendly! I would have failed miserably at her job for sure. This is my favorite restaurant in Oak Harbor. I've ordered many different menu meals and I haven't been disappointed with any. I prefer their carnita's (pork), but I also like their birria (stewed beef), I don't really like their adobada (spicy pork), the carne asada (steak beef) is ok. Their chilaquiles is great, so are their tacos, both soft and crispy. The staff has always been friendly, service is quick. Occasionally I get some fat chunks, but that wouldn't effect my rating, pork is fatty, it happens. read more

This is in the old Donut Master location. We went yesterday and tried a couple of our favorites--a carne asada torta and tacos. All were amazing. Returned this morning to try breakfast burritos as all the others we'd tried in town so far have been too Americanized--not enough flavor. We got one ham and one chorizo breakfast burrito and they were EXACTLY what we'd been missing. The price felt a little high (about $9 each) but when we got them they were a full dinner burrito size and well worth every penny. Recommend adding the green salsa they provide you. We still haven't tried our typical measures of a carne asada burrito and the rice and beans, but we'll be back again soon. Aside: As they get the place up and running again the HVAC has been giving them problems, so be prepared for cold if you eat-in, but know they're actively working on it! UPDATE: We've been back a couple of times. Tried the breakfast burritos, both ham and chorizo and they're both amazing! Highly recommended and it's a full, dinner-sized burrito so come with an appetite or be prepared to share. Last night we went back and used the drive thru to pick up a flautas dinner and a California burrito. The flautas were perfect! They added nice touches like shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese crumbles. The rice and beans are probably the most disappoiinting offering I've had at El Kiosko. Will avoid "meals" and stick with entrees and sides. The California burrito is the absolute best thing I've tasted from their menu. Highly recommended. 11/10. We have some excellent spots in town for Mexican food but find ourselves going back to El Kiosko over everywhere else. During most storms, they're still open while other locations are closed as a bonus. 5 Stars is rare for me but I wanted to help give this restaurant the review it deserves. If you're from California, this is the type of Mexican food we want, fast and authentic. So far I've had lengua (beef tongue), tripas (intestines), and al pastor (grilled pork) which were all SPOT ON. The salsas are good, and the side of rice and beans are always flavorful. Solid, solid Mexican food! That's coming from a San Diego native. We have heard great things and have wanted to stop in for weeks, finally got that chance late one weeknight after a work function with dismal food. The plates were nicely packaged to-go, with everything we needed including red and green salsas. The customer service was so friendly, and we were so thrilled to have the option of the drive thru!! Our food was very good. Rolled tacos with shredded beef, rice, beans, and alllll the toppings. We also tried Chile relleno and horchata. The food would most likely have been better eaten on site, since it did lose a bit of crispness on the ride home. Also, the horchata was definitely homemade, but we found it a little too thick and gritty. Will definitely come back soon for another try. read more

So, smack in the middle of Covid-19 these crazy people open a restaurant, WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? It's a Mexican & as far as I am concerned there can NEVER be enough of those but how will they stay in business when everything is closed or greatly restricted. Well, they make it through to 2021 and I am all alone at home one day and decide to go out and treat myself to something special, I remember Taqueria el Kiosko that had opened months earlier in our old KFC building & decide to give it a go. O.M.G. Am I glad I did! I ordered the Carnitas plate ($12.59 at the time), using drive through and drove home, upon opening the to-go container my eyes goggled at the amount of meat in the dish. I worked that pile for 20 minutes or so when I decided I had better give the rest to my son or explode, the beans, rice and meat were so good I almost decided on the "explode" option. My son was also very impressed with the taste even though it was no longer as hot as when I had started. A few weeks later Dine in was reopened and I decide to take my Mom, daughter & Son-in-Law to Kiosko, when we walk up to the order/pay counter we were amazed at the quantity of items on the menu as KFC buildings are not all that large. Over 60 plate choices Beef, pork, shrimp, chicken plus a good selection of beverages. After ordering at the counter go grab a table while you drool and wait for the food which is prepared and delivered in short order. Be prepared for plastic utensils (I'm taking my own next time), I'm not sure if this is a Covid thing or permanent & I don't care all that much but I know some people may. Go there, enjoy there. So I'm going all out with five stars today. With our challenges, I was happy to see the drive through available after doing a quick shop at Haggen. I ordered my standard, a burrito with lengua. I figured I could take home and warm it up. So with all the food videos I've watched, I realized I have never had an authentic sopa. I saw them in the menu (with chorizo as an option) and decided to try that also. Drove home and I'm enjoying these delicious amazing new treats. The food was pretty good. We have gone 3 times and each time my husvand has raved about his Cali burrito. I tried different things each time and all have been good but not as good as some of the other places in town. We do love that there is a drive through and cheap kids menu though That is why we keep going back It is a little weird that chips come with beans and not salsa I have never heard of that before read more

So last night, my wife and I were about to walk into Haggen to pick up an easy meal and saw that Taquería opened up. We figured we should try it out so we she got a burrito and I got the burrito plate. They also have a giant bowl of horchata, so I obviously had to get that too. How was our meal last night? We went back again tonight. This time I had the enchilada plate, and that too was delicious. The food is great, staff is friendly and helpful, and they did a nice job converting it from what it used to be. They also have a convenient drive through as well. I don't know if we'll go back for a third night in a row, but we'll definitely be coming back in the future. Also, the horchata was great! read more

I really like their nuggets tbh it has a different taste that just keep me coming back for more lol if you looking for chicken nugget fixings then taqueria el kiosko is the place!!! It's like $5 meal for a good portion of nuggets with pile of fries. Honestly so bussin bussin. I love to bite into the crispy chicken nugget and the tender juices are just busting all over my mouth! Delicioso! Support your local business everyone! And of course their Mexican dishes are delicious with such a great portion. The workers r very kind and even though this place can get busy, they do a good job of handling the customer and making sure the quality food is serve. Whenever I'm on island and I am craving chicken nugget or Mexican foods then I know I can rely on this place.
