Vegan, gluten-free mocha cake

A gem of a spot for me, I have to eat gluten and dairy free. I bought my birthday cake here. The Vegan, chocolate mocha cake. Very delicious

Everything in the display case looked delicious, but we decided on the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry, the pistachio ganash tart and the pork & fennel sausage roll. The pistachio tart was fresh with a rich nutty flavor, though it took a little finesse to eat because the filling kept wanting to spill out. My favorite was the lychee raspberry & rosewater pastry. It was flaky, with a delicate sweetness from the fruits and a subtle floral note from the rosewater. You can really taste the dedication in these pastries. I'd recommend going early in the day as many of their items tend to sell out quick.

The bun was incredibly fresh, light, and pillowy, while the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender with the perfect balance of richness and tang from the kimchi. The pickled vegetables added a bright crunch that tasted incredibly fresh. We started with the salmon tartare, and it was phenomenal! Rich, buttery, bursting with flavor, and so good we were literally fighting over the last bite. And the scallop? Order one for each person. Seriously. It's far too delicious to share. It had just the right amount of heat, leaving the perfect lingering warmth that immediately made us want another. Do yourself a favor and give yourself enough time to work your way through the menu, because every dish we tried was outstanding. Each plate was thoughtfully curated, beautifully executed, and cooked to perfection. I like to call it the C³ trifecta: curated, created, and cooked. Without question, this is some of the best food we've had in a very long time. We can't wait to come back (when visiting) and continue eating our way through the rest of the menu.

Ambiance was great - super warm and welcoming which was magnified by the host. Super lovely. Then the wait staff. Whoever is hiring/training is doing a great job! We also sat right beside the pick up window so it was fun seeing food come out! The food was fantastic. See pictures for what we ordered. Not sure if I can remember the names of everything but it was a perfect combo!!

It's on a residential street in a heritage home that has been nicely updated where need be. There is a grab and go area as well, if you're in a rush. There is also a patio, so plenty of choices. It's a very healthy choice e to eat, but that doesn't mean the portions are small, or you're going to leave hungry. My Smoked Tofu Muffuletta came on beautiful bread with a choice of salad or soup of the day. Not being a mushroom soup fan I took the greens. You can definitely taste the smoke, but it's not overpowering , and the entirety is pretty tasty. The lovely K had the Golden Benny which was also a good portion, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The Hoyne pilsner and Caesar were also tasty. The service is spot on, with all the staff involved in taking care of you while dining. There really is nothing wanting, but somehow we were not raving about the experience.

After spending several days at a rejuvenating yoga retreat, the last thing my friend and I wanted…read morewas a heavy meal. Meat wasn't even on our radar--we were craving something fresh, nourishing, and full of flavor. After checking into our hotel, we headed out on a walk to explore Victoria. Well...our "little stroll" turned into quite the adventure and ended with us catching a ferry taxi back. And here I thought Las Vegas was the city of walking! Still in search of the perfect healthy dinner, we asked the front desk for a recommendation. Without hesitation, she suggested Be Love, mentioning its incredible vegan menu and abundance of gluten-free-friendly options. It sounded exactly like what we were looking for. From the moment we walked in, we loved the atmosphere. The restaurant was bright, clean, welcoming, and had a fun, upbeat energy that made us feel right at home. We started with a couple of refreshing drinks and shared the mezze platter, which was the perfect way to ease into the meal with a variety of fresh, vibrant flavors. Then came the stacked tacos...and apparently our hunger had reached DEFCON 1 because I completely forgot to take a picture before we devoured them! If you've ever looked at your empty plate and thought, "Oops...I guess that was photo-worthy," you'll understand. Fortunately, I remembered dessert. We took home the chocolate caramel brownies and a protein cookie to enjoy later. The protein cookie was good, but those chocolate caramel brownies absolutely stole the show. Rich, decadent, perfectly balanced, and dangerously delicious--I would happily make a return trip just for those alone. Whether you're vegan, gluten-free, or simply someone who appreciates creative, flavorful food made with quality ingredients, Be Love is absolutely worth a visit. It was the perfect ending to a peaceful yoga retreat, and I'd gladly return the next time I'm in Victoria.

And the menu was inspired - clearly rooted in Italian cuisine but very much their own takes. I will let my photos further describe the food. Visiting from the US, where service is efusive to a fault, we struggled in a lot of restaurants we visited in Canada to interpret whether our servers were being frosty toward us or if it was just a cultural difference. Not so here. Our server was super warm and gracious and attentive. Additionally, Italian food is fraught for me because I am not only pescatarian but allergic to basil. And I really wanted pasta. Identifying which dish I should order that actually had what I wanted to eat but also didn't have any of the things I can't eat was a multi-step team effort and I really appreciated how patient and helpful our server was about this. He had to go to the kitchen and ask a lot of questions. My only only complaints are it was a touch pricey and the fact that, because it is so good and therefore popular and crowded, vibes were hectic. Ambiance, especially leading up to the front entrance, is old world and warm and exciting, however tables were very close together. Volume was an issue. I struggled to leave our table without hitting our neighbors and we could hear other people's conversations. The front entrance was especially hectic as people waited for their tables to become available. I really believe that the ambiance/vibes are a huge part of the dining experience and at a price point like this I expect not to feel crowded in during my meal. Other than that though, this was really lovely and a highlight of our dining in Victoria.
