Flavorless grits too!

Harrowing. The frightened scrambled eggs cowered in their 2/3s of the portioned styrofoam plate; oxidized and anemic; refugees from some distant processing plant. Of no taste. "No toast; breakfast almost over" she announced at 9:45 regarding their "- 10:15" sign. They don't own a toaster so my rejected warmed bread was redone as warm bread in the convection oven.

Patriot Cafe is a gorgeous, clean, and calming cafeteria deep inside the VA Long Beach Hospital. I've spent a lot of time at different hospitals as an employee, student, volunteer, and patient, so trust me when I say that the food here is better than most! They have healthy options, salads, sandwiches, wraps, hearty breakfasts/lunches, donuts, fruits, Starbucks coffee and your typical cafeteria-type food too. The cafe is similar to an airplane hangar with its high ceilings, open-space, and silver metallic decor. It's surrounded by glass walls and has a ton of tables indoors and out. The patio outdoor area is beautiful with resort-like tables. The greatest part is that every meal is under $5. If you volunteer at the hospital here, you get a free daily meal ticket that's worth $6! Employees get a 15% discount. ---- Verdict: Those who don't volunteer or work at the VA probably will never find a reason to come here since it's located at the heart of the hospital...and parking at this site is dreadful, but those who come will understand my admiration for this place. If Patriot Cafe had outlets, it would definitely be a 5 star place for me, too bad no outlets are present. Extra Notes: -Cash only, but ATM located near entrance -Open M-F 6:30AM-4PM -PatriotBrew is a stand right next to the cafeteria that serves Starbucks coffee -Nice employees -Restrooms located outside the cafeteria, very clean

Corned Beef hash powder eggs and bisque and gravy hmmmn good breakfast.

To start off, this is definitely not meant to bash Luna at all. I think Luna has a great…read moreatmosphere, and the food and drinks have been great every time I've visited. I've been about 2-3 times now, and the food has consistently been really good. That being said, I would definitely recommend a little more customer service training for the servers. Everyone I've encountered has been very nice, but sometimes it's the simple things, like showing that you're happy to serve your paying customers and making sure they feel taken care of. Each time I've visited, we've found ourselves waiting close to 30 minutes for our server to come by for refills, a to-go box, or even the check. I completely understand that mistakes happen and that things can get busy. I've worked in the restaurant industry before, so I really do try my best to be understanding. However, during one of my recent visits, my order came out incorrectly. There was an item on my plate that I had specifically requested not to have. Of course, mistakes happen, and I had no issue communicating the mistake to my server. What bothered me was that instead of apologizing for the error, she looked at me and simply walked away with the plate. I assumed it was a minor mistake and that she would have the order corrected. I could have just removed the item myself, but at the same time, I shouldn't have to pick through my food after receiving an incorrect order when I'm paying for it. When she brought the plate back, she simply left it on the table without saying anything or acknowledging the mistake. I actually found myself apologizing to her for making her do the extra work, and she just walked away. Overall, I really do think Luna is a great restaurant with great food, drinks, and atmosphere. I'm sharing this feedback because I think with some improvement in customer service, communication, and wait times, Luna has the potential to be even better. I would definitely come back, and I hope this feedback is taken as constructive criticism rather than anything negative.

I've lived in Long Beach for over four years now, and for some reason, every time I drove past A…read moreRestaurant, I always thought, "It can't be that good." I don't know what it was. Maybe the sign, maybe the name, but something about it just didn't call out to me. I'd see their Newport Beach location, always packed, and still think, "I'm going to spend a bunch of money, and the place is probably going to suck." Boy, was I wrong! We recently met someone who works there, and she encouraged us to give it a shot. So one evening, my girlfriend and I decided to check out the Long Beach location overlooking the marina. WOW. What an incredible surprise! First, the decor. Absolutely beautiful. Think Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons. That upscale, luxurious feeling you get when you walk into a really special place. A+. Haha. I guess that's why they call it A's! Looking for a date-night spot where you can impress someone? A+. This place absolutely delivers. The atmosphere? Another A+. There's a buzz in the air, an energy that's hard to describe. You immediately feel like you're somewhere special. And then there's the food. Outstanding! From the appetizer to the main course to dessert, everything was fantastic. A+ But here's something I wasn't expecting. The chairs! I'm not kidding when I say I sat in one of the most comfortable restaurant chairs I've ever experienced. It felt more like a luxurious lounge chair than typical restaurant seating. I could've sat there all night, overlooking the beautiful marina, enjoying the atmosphere. The service was outstanding, too. And the people-watching? Fantastic! As people walked in, you couldn't help but look around. It's that kind of scene. Great energy, interesting people, beautiful surroundings. The whole experience just feels special. By the time we left, I was thinking, "We absolutely have to come back!" And here's what really impressed me. This isn't just a restaurant I'd return to because the food was good. It's a restaurant I'd actually crave. Craving amazing food? I'd think of A Restaurant. Craving a beautiful atmosphere, great energy, and a little luxury? I'd think of A Restaurant. Craving beautiful people? A's. That's rare. Usually, restaurants are great at one thing or another. This place checks practically every box. And now I'm kicking myself for waiting more than four years to try it! All because I judged a restaurant by its sign and name. How ridiculous is that? It really reminded me of that old saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover." I had absolutely no reason to believe the restaurant wouldn't be good. I'd never eaten there! Yet somehow, I'd convinced myself it wasn't worth trying. Meanwhile, I was missing out on one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in Long Beach. Now I can't wait to check out their Newport Beach location. Every time I've driven past, that place has been packed. And knowing what I know now, I can only imagine the energy and atmosphere there. Plus, who doesn't love Newport Beach? Oh, and one more thing. Apparently, they serve chicken pot pie on certain days. I haven't figured out exactly which days yet, but you better believe I'm going back to try it. If it's anything like the rest of their food, I'm in for a treat! Here's what I'll say about A Restaurant. Whether you're looking for an impressive date night, incredible food, beautiful waterfront views, outstanding service, or just a fun, upscale atmosphere, I genuinely can't imagine walking away disappointed. There's really nothing I can complain about. And I actually think this restaurant deserves even more attention than it's getting. Maybe there are other people like me who drive past, make assumptions, and never give it a chance. If that's you, stop doing that! You're missing out. A's restaurant should absolutely be considered one of the top go-to dining destinations in Long Beach. We're lucky to have a place like this because, quite frankly, Long Beach needs more bougieness! Bring on the luxury. Bring on the beautiful decor. Bring on that Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons kind of experience. Long Beach could use more of it, and A's is delivering exactly that. Four years of driving past this place, and now I can't wait to go back. Lesson learned. Don't judge a book by its cover. A Restaurant, you won me over. Oh, yeah! F**** A. Haha

I am widowed and dining out can be challenging... Often, the…read moresingle diner is relegated to the bar area. Which is how tonight went. My service was slow and my waiter somewhat disinterested, certainly not friendly. I ordered the Pot Pie (only available certain days). It was delicious and beautiful. Maybe it would be a good training tip to consider that single people are often lonely, and go out to eat to be around other people. Extend to them an added dose of human warmth. You'll be a bright spot in someone's day!
