2026 Review. April 17th Friday It's been years since I have been back. Went to eat breakfast here prior to attending the Long Beach Grand Prix Race day event. Definitely my go to spot for breakfast on Pine Street. The ambiance is still old school. The food on the other hand is still delicious. Fresh and tasty. Big Kudos to this place for not being greedy on their salsa. You can have unlimited salsa if you choose too. Alot of breakfast choices to choose from. Ordered a Mimosa bottle, it did not dissapoint! We ordered two coffees ($4.26 each), a large orange juice ($6.51), the Ham Steak & Eggs ($16.99), and the Corned Beef Hash ($15.99). The prices are already pushing it for a basic breakfast, and unfortunately the food didn't justify it. The ham steak was the biggest disappointment -- it tasted dry and honestly had that "been sitting in the fridge too long" texture. Not fresh, not juicy, and definitely not worth $17. The eggs were fine, but nothing special. The corned beef hash was decent and probably the best thing we ordered, but still not memorable. Service was okay -- nothing terrible, just average. The overall vibe is that classic diner feel, but when you're paying upscale prices, you expect more than average. For the quality and experience, this felt overpriced. Really great omelette situation at the Omelette Inn. The omelettes are apparently made with 3 eggs. They're served with your choice of home fries or hashbrowns with your choice of toast. I ordered the ABC ($15.99) - avocado, hickory smoked bacon, and cheddar cheese. The omelette is beautifully constructed. The egg batter is cooked until it resembles a tortilla enabling it to envelope all the bacon. It's a bacon burrito with an egg tortilla topped with cheddar cheese and avocado. The egg tortilla is so damn tasty. It's buttery thin and the hickory bacon is generously portioned. Delish. I do insist you order an English muffin if you find yourself dining here - it is phenomenally good. The butter melts perfectly into all the nooks and crannies. It's sourdoughy and gives enough chew to make me believe it's not a Thomas English muffin. The Omelette Inn is not new, shiny, or trendy. I was looking for a late breakfast spot on a Friday and this spot was open so we walked over. I did not like the coffee but enjoyed everything else. I ordered OJ instead and that was fresh. The chili was very good...maybe too mild for a chili connoisseur (or someone from Texas who doesn't believe in beans in chili)...but reminded me strongly of the "fat-free" chicken chili that our cafe at a place I worked at for a while served (that used to be my lunch pretty consistently 3 days a week). The takeaway: Solid breakfast with good coffee, very good tasting food and large portions. I shall set the scene: 8am. I meet a colleague in town for a convention and we meet at this establishment. We are greeted quite heartily by a man at the table just inside the front door. "Welcome!" And he waves us back to a table. I wonder, is this the owner or manager? No... it's a patron who has just finished 2 beers and goes on to happily order two more. Did I mention it is 8am? Eyebrow raised, I slide into the booth wondering what is to come. The menu is ample without being overwhelming. Waitstaff is friendly, and offers some good suggestions on the menu. I would normally go for a Greek egg white omelette, but I call an audible and order the never-before-seen "Black Bean Patty" omelette (when in Rome, as they say), with a side of fruit (instead of potatoes), and sourdough toast, and black coffee. My dining partner gets biscuits and gravy. [How good can it be outside the South? Then again, he drinks Dr. Pepper with breakfast.] Coffee comes: just at the edge of almost too strong... robust, perhaps. And then the omelette... inspired! I highly recommend the black bean omelette. The fruit was fresh and not 4 days old, which is often the case in these establishments. Biscuits and gravy... a huge portion of them. I'm no expert here, but I thought they were pretty good, with a fluffy baking soda biscuit and gravy that was a tad on the sweet and (overly?) salty side. I would give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. [Note: Normally I rely on my dining partner for a judgement on these, but he was nursing a pretty epic hangover and looked like a bite of anything would put him over the top.] They lose a point for buttering my toast, but I lose a point for dropping my guard and not ordering it "dry." Atmosphere: it's a well worn coffee shop and exactly what you'd expect -- slightly dingy, but that's also part of the charm. Did I like the place? Liked it enough that I'm advising my colleague to go easy in the bourbon tonight so we can try it again tomorrow. read more

A homey, cozy diner for breakfast food in DTLB. Huge menu and the food was satisfying. Good portions. There's a very wide variety of omelettes including some unique ones like the Sicilian omelette that I ordered. They provide fresh salsa which is great with any egg dish. They also have lunch options. Service was fast - our group of 6 were on a time crunch and we ordered, ate, and paid all within an hour. Parking is tricky in this area but there is meter parking on the street and a nearby lot free for the first 2 hours on 3rd street. I ordered the Santa Fe chicken sandwich, which was really good and huge! I ate half of it and saved the other half for lunch the next day. My husband got an omelette - I think the "Mama Mia" if I remember correctly. It was also huge (3 eggs) and served with a big side of hashbrowns.
