Sunset from the field behind the brewery!
Grace V.

Best brewery I've been to. We stayed in Charlottesville to go skydiving in Orange county and passed this place and thought "huh maybe we will stop on thr way back" And boy am I glad we did. The vibe of this place is beyond any other brewery I've been too. They had a great band playing and plenty of seating. There were sections for adults only, outdoor, indoor but still able to hear the music, and more of a family area with picnic tables and cornhole. There was a baseball field behind it where some kids were playing. There is also a swing-set for older kids, and an area for younger kids near the picnic tables. The sunset over the place was so beautiful! The bartender was so nice and helped me settle an upset stomach. The next day we did the Hop on Tour and met Sharon (I think thats her name) and she told us all about Patch. The father and the guy who owns it build a lot of the outdoor bar and also the stage. They also helped clean up the baseball field. The mother of the guy who owns it comes and plants wildflowers around the property. They do all sorts of community events: markets (hosted for free), line dancing, and so much more! Truly a community driven place. I wish there was a place similar to this where I live. A brewery that is not only fun for all ages, but you could spend the day here. If you are around this area/are staying in Charlottesville this place is worth it to come! Oh and they have a great selection of beer and ciders! You don't see many places offering ciders so it was perfect for us!

Good food! Great beers! Got kids??? Don't worry they have plenty of things to keep them occupied so you can drink in peace as a parent hahaha. They have an outdoor area for little one- park and sand pit area. Got older kids? Don't worry. There are arcades and darts. Got a fur baby? They got you covered too! They have a dog park for your cutie to run around. Want to spend time with the family? They gave board games available too! Plenty of parking available. Indoor and outdoor restrooms. Follow them on social media to look at all their events!

Outdoor seating, second pour house.

Patch brewery is five stars for a true community place, it's awesome beer, decent food a always something fun going on. They have truly created not just a place to drink great craft beer, but to do the things you love with your people while drinking it. Patch is a big place: multiple buildings for beer, food, watching a game on TV, gatherings and games (board games to arcade and darts). For dog people it offers a big dog park. For kids there a multiple playgrounds and a ball field. Top all of that off with an indoor and outdoor stage for live music and you have a great place to hang out whether it's the whole family, a gathering with friends or even a date. The beer here is really good. I am wheat beer guy and their Hefeweizen has a nice blend of spices and richness without overdoing it. They have a pub like menu with burgers, brats and dogs with fried accompaniments. The burgers are a little small for what you pay for but they are tasty, with some unique topping combinations. Prices are fair overall. Staff have been friendly and helpful whether offering tastes of beer to determine your selection or questions about food options. The food service is an order at the counter and pickup when ready format. Lots of seating options inside and outside for parties as small or as large as you like. Often there is live music on weekends. They offer line dancing lessons once a month, along with other activities. Be sure to check the website for events, dates and times. Highly recommended and worth a drive from Charlottesville or Richmond. Bring some friends. Hope to see you there sometime. Cheers!

What a great brewery! Wish we lived close by as this would be a regular place for us to come! Good beers, very friendly staff, very large indoor area but also large outdoor area as well. They have all types of board and card games, arcade game machines, some tv's and even some different seating areas (couches and chairs) They do have chips you can buy and a small menu too you can order off of. It might be limited times but it also looked like you could bring in your own food too!

Always great to stop by Patch Brewing. Great drinks and simple small menu choices with indoor and outdoor seating. Service is quick and efficient, with a relaxed ambience.

Patch is just too fun! We went before graduation and they had plenty of space. It is just a bit away from downtown Gordonsville, which is such a nice little place. We got a nice table inside since it was scorching outside, but the outside section looks great too! The flights were really fun, and gave us the chance to try some of their fun beers. I loved building my own, and they each had a decently sized pour. There was food available from a food truck, and I really enjoyed that too. We shared some appetizers, and they were delicious (though VERY salty, grab some waters!). I love that there is a nice selection of games available. It is always fun when places have that available, and really makes the experience a great one! I can't wait to return here.

Live music and beer!

Due to weather conditions we had to go inside. The beer was fine. The facility was not that clean and there was a smell of stale beer.

There was ample seating both inside and outside. Overall, it's a nice place to enjoy some beverages with friendly people.

My Wahoo daughter brought me here during Family Weekend, and now I totally get why this place is a UVA favorite. The building itself is part of a beautifully restored historic industrial complex off Preston Avenue. It's an adaptive-reuse space (formerly part of the old Coca-Cola bottling works), and the design keeps that industrial character alive: tall ceilings, exposed materials, and a layout that feels open, social, and easygoing. The outdoor area is especially smartly done. They've got roll-down fabric walls and overhead heat lamps that keep the patio comfortable even when the temperature dips. It's basically an all-weather beer-garden vibe, and it works. Here's how our meal went down: * Shared starter: the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel. Warm, soft, perfectly salted, and killer with both the mustard and the cheese sauce. * My entrée: the Local Steak Salad -- gorgeous presentation, tender grass-fed beef, and those pickled turnips, radish slices, and greens in herb buttermilk dressing absolutely tied it together. * My daughter's entrée: Bratwurst, which disappeared quickly, so that tells you what you need to know. Service setup is counter-service for food with table drop-off, and drinks are ordered directly at the bar. It's efficient, friendly, and gives the whole place an easygoing "European beer hall meets Charlottesville neighborhood spot" feel. Kardinal Hall is one of those places where good food, good architecture, and good energy all line up. If you're in town -- especially visiting UVA -- this is a must-stop.

I've seen reviews from others indicating that the portion sizes left them hungry, and I'm not certain how much those few people are used to consuming, but my husband and I were both pleasantly full by the end of five courses (we added the bread and butter as well as a dessert, and I was too full to finish the dessert). Each course was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious; it's clear that they put a significant amount of time, thought, and love into preparing their monthly menus. My husband is a vegetarian (and a picky one at that), and they were more than accommodating and didn't skip a beat in dreaming up dishes that were creative, beautiful, and so tasty that I kept stealing bites from him. I also appreciate that it's very much a family-run establishment and not at all stuffy or pretentious; the atmosphere is lovely, and having the homey touch makes it even more appealing. My only regret was that I was too full to go over to their bar afterward and add on the French onion soup, which looks incredible. We will be back to try more!

Our server, Nick, was very pleasant, efficient and professional--good at his job and possessing a beautiful, warm smile. I had an Asbach Sidecar that was very well made. I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say. I disagree with her with every well-seasoned, perfectly cooked vegetable and flavorful rye roll digesting in my belly right now. The Bavarian Chef is a treat. You'd be a fool to miss it!
