Yea fuck this distillery . Been going there for over 5 years now always recommending this place to people. I show up with both my classic Jeeps this time at the car show today. my elderly mom was helping me drive my other one so I could bring two cars I ask the young lady if I can park really quick to the side so I can coordinate with my mom and fill the paperwork out . Since my mom doesn't know how to park or what do at these shows and I didn't want to hold up the line as I had cars behind me and my mom. Plus I have to drive her back home so I have to park both cars myself And that asshole lady was extremely rude to me, telling me I have to hurry up and I can't park in those spots even for a min or two just to coordinate with my mom. Is that how I am gonna be treated when I ask to park there for 2 min to get out of the way of other cars ? What a fucking joke What will you have me do sit in the middle of the road ? You know what I am no longer recommending this distillery. You all can kiss my fucking ass. I'm not spending money on the butterscotch whiskey like I have for years anymore. You will be getting some nasty reviews from me on yelp. Google. Facebook and everywhere else I can post !!!!! I won't tolerate be treated like this in front of my mom. !!! We went on a Friday morning. We were greeted very warmly and made to feel welcome. We only had about a 10 minute wait until the next tour started so we started a tab and had one tasting before the tour which was short but informative. The owner was there and graciously allowed us to take photos with him, he was so friendly and welcoming too. Then we finished our tasting (3oz maximum per person per ABC), taking our cocktails out on the porch where we drank them in rocking chairs enjoying the beautiful day. One of the workers was so sweet and brought us a table and some cups of water as well. Just a really welcoming place with some history. When you're in Culpeper make sure you make this a stop. read more

The people were incredibly nice, the Whiskey and Moonshine were tasty, and I loved the vibe here! Highly recommend this place. They have a live band sometimes which makes it even better! Their Whiskey is made in Copper Pots, and the place put together from an old Church I believe. They were on the show, Moonshiners. Fun little deal detail! Both the bartender and the guy who shows you around were fun. The place is out in the country, and the drive there is beautiful. read more

It was our first time here and definitely won't be the last. This place is a hidden gem. It's nestled in the countryside on a beautiful farm. As you're pulling in it's like you're going to someone's house. Once you arrive they treat you like family. All of the employees were super friendly and helpful. We didn't get the full experience due to COVID the tours were shutdown and the tastings weren't quite the same. We did really enjoy the time that we could spend there and had fun interacting with the employees. The moonshine was good and they had a nice selection to choose from. They also had some good whiskey. It was nice because you could either shoot it or get a mixed drink. We ended up each getting 1 mixed drink and 3 shots within their restrictions. They had a nice pavilion outside where you sat and did the actual tastings. It was super hot that day so it was nice that they had a fan outside. The pavilion sits on top of the hill and the views were amazing. It was really peaceful out there. After the tasting we went inside and browsed their store. I ended up grabbing a t-shirt and of course apple pie moonshine and my boyfriend got the apple whiskey. We will be back for the tour! read more

You can buy the whiskey and moonshine from Belmont Farm at our local ABC, but I ventured out to the distillery with a group of friends for a ladies day out. Very glad we did, it's a lovely place for a day trip. We were a bit worried we were lost at first, because Belmont Farms is located at the very end of a long gravel road that doesn't appear to go anywhere in particular, but stick it out, the distillery is worth the visit. We were greeted cordially and given a private tour of the operations. The distillery features very special still equipment that was originally used during prohibition and has been consequently "grandfathered in" for legal use. After the tour it was time for the tastings. Belmont Farm offers a variety of drinks ranging from flavored moonshine to rum, whiskey and bourbon and you can have your sample mixed in a cocktail. Each person is only allowed 6 samples (VA regulations) so our group got creative and all tried different things so we could sample a bit of everything. Honestly it was all good, the folks at Belmont Farms really know their business! What made the experience special was our tour guide and server (Cheryl, I think was her name). She was fabulous! From making suggestions for our cocktails (the "Culpeper juice" is a winner!) to sitting down with us for a chat and further explanations of the history of the distillery, the differences between whiskey and bourbon her knowledge of the local area and the moon-shining business really made for a special experience. Oh and yes, the product is good and we all came away with at least two bottles. A great way to spend an afternoon! read more

Basically this is my most favorite distillery in the history of distilleries. We found this place on a lark, by following highway signs and had no intention of making this spot a pit stop. Chuck Miller, the owner, is a little bit whacky which is probably a requirement for anyone who makes moonshine. He's actually a commercial pilot turned distiller (although his family had moon shining roots). His personality is what makes the tour fun. Whereas most tours involve a history of distillery and the staff, Chuck goes right into a description on how to make moonshine without blowing yourself up. He's kind of like the Walter White of moonshine. He spends part of his tour talking about their partnership with Tim Smith. Everyone on the tour seemed to know who Tim Smith was except for us. By my clever deduction, I think it's the guy in the huge cut out cardboard ads everywhere (see pics) wearing no shirt with his overalls a la Jodeci style. Apparently he is on a show called Moonshiners on Discovery and showcases his Climax (named after his town in VA) moonshine here. They say the tasting room is packed whenever Tim comes to visit, that's a lot of people who want to see some dude going commando in some overalls. Now for the booze, for $5 you get to sample three of the following: Virginia Lightning Corn Whiskey- shockingly good and smooth for 100 proof. Virginia Lightning Moonshine (refined corn whiskey)-great balls of fire, this is 90 proof.I felt like my breathe was flammable after this one. Kopper Kettle Virginia Whiskey- it's like bourbon but not bourbon. It gets soaked with oak and applewood chips before it sits in a barrel for four years. This is some high quality stuff. Kopper Kettle Vodka Cherry Moonshine-50 proof, the cherries inside the jar are probably a 100 proof, not my favorite since it was medicinal tasting. Apple Pie Moonshine-there are two of them, the one with the lighter proof is actually drinkable and tasty and very mixable, the higher proof one will have everyone passed out on your lawn if you served it at a party. Three samples may not seem like much but trust me that is all you need. They also feature a moonshine exhibit which is creepy wax figures that are passed out which they acquired from the Natural Bridge Wax Museum. There are also two friendly dogs walking around and plenty of rocking chairs to lounge in. So if you happen to find yourself in Culpepper with a designated driver and some time to kill, I highly recommend a stop by this distillery. read more

I must have visited on a lucky day, because none other than one of the stars of "The Moonshiners" TV show were in town signing autographs. No wonder the place was packed! And the building was much bigger than I ever expected; this is a full blown operation, not a side job the owner threw together. They have a great selection of spirits, most of which you can blend for a mixed drink. Virginia law prohibits distilleries from serving more than 3 ounces so you have to pick & choose carefully. I went for the "Virginia Lightning" whisky, VA Lightning Apple Pie (lightning and apple juice), Apple Whisky (another apple combo), and one other I can't recall. Whiskeys are hit or miss with me; this time I didn't buy anything. But I'd visit again, because I only had such a small sampling of what they deliver. read more

Wonderful experience visiting Belmont Distillery. It was a gorgeous day and the farm was beautiful and so well maintained. Sheryl greeted us and was so friendly and knowledgeable. Kinda cool to see some of the area where filming took place for Moonshiners. Distillery is small, but that is a good thing. Our guide was was informative. Explained lots and allowed lots of questions. Didn't purchase any of Tim's spirits, but instead purchased a bottle of Apple whiskey. prices are reasonable and product was very good. They even sell the wood they soak int he whiskey to use in smokers. i picked up a bag of oak wood for$3.00. about 1/2 the price of plain jane wood chips. The apple wood was sold out and thee is a waiting list. You can order online and they will ship. On the way out, i could of swore I spotted Tim's excursion parked at one of the properties on the left. Cool place, neat tour, good product.. Suggest you visit it. read more

My friends and I did not plan on going to Belmont Farm Distillery, but since we were in the area, we decided to stop by. If you're from the city, you'll appreciate the farm's Southern charm. It's a small facilities, but the man who owns it (Chuck) is awesome. He is hilarious and loves his distillery. In fact, he was on the show Moonshiners....twice! The whiskey is not bad. $5 will get you a tasting of three of their drinks. I loved their apple pie whiskey since I love sweet drinks. The only recommendation is to serve food here. We wanted to do our tasting while munching on some good food. read more

Belmont Distillery continues to be a destination stop when in the area. We always bring our out of town quests when showing them the sights of Culpeper and surrounding communities. The venue continues to grow and upgrade with a great indoor tasting area and outdoor stage. They are also finally paving the access road which will make it much more pleasant and you won't need a car wash after you leave. Many similar venues at breweries and wineries have gravel access roads that are not pleasant especially during the dry days of summer. Chuck and his wife along with their courtious and knowledgeable staff make you feel like family and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your visit. read more

I purchaseda bottle of the Virginia Lightening Moonshine Butterscotch from the Virginia ABC store #201 in Abingdon. Upon opening it after purchase the aroma is good. The taste is anything but. It is awful. Slight taste of butterscotch and no sweetness at all. It is the worst I have ever had. I emailed the distillery and have yet to hear from anyone. Do not purchase the Butterscotch. It Sucks!!! Sugarland in Gatlinburg, Tn is 100 times better than this awful moonshine/whiskey. read more

For bargain price of $5, I had the opportunity to taste three types of moonshine from the following list: -Kopper kettle va whiskey -Kopper kettle vodka -Virginia lightning corn whiskey -Virginia lightning moonshine -Virginia lighting cherry -Virginia lighting apple pig From what I remember, due to the powerful moonshine, I tried the KK Vodka, Lightning Corn, and Cherry. I was so impressed with the tastings that I bought a couple of bottles for Christmas gifts. As others have mentioned the owner was down to earth friendly and funny. Yelpers should seriously consider bookmarking and visiting Belmont for a fun and relaxing time. read more

Good stuff. Found this during a road trip thru VA. They have a few products which is distilled using only their corn or grain on premises. They have straight shine, gin, whisky, flavored shine and even a rum. Visit with something in your stomach if your tasting. You'll need it to soak up some of the alcohol. Had to buy a bottle to bring home to NC even though we have some good distilleries. read more

Rare small batch Virginia distillery, on a small family farm. Don't expect the big corporate distilleries like you find in Kentucky & Tennessee. Belmont Farm offers an interesting tour of a bootstrap distillery who's owner fought through years of state-imposed red tape to build the business. (Why are Virginia wineries so plentiful and distilleries so unusual?) While they sell a "moonshine" (raw spirit) and a vodka, Belmont Farm is known for their high quality Bourbon-style (corn based) whiskey. A tasting is available, just $5, and Belmont Farm products can be purchased at the distillery. Note: Do not be put off by the long gravel driveway. It is well maintained, largely flat, and should not give you any trouble passing. Low sportscars like Corvette and Porsche will want to processed cautiously. Cheers, and enjoy the tour. read more

What a cute little place. The owner and the lady doing the tastings were so friendly. The moonshine and the barrel aged moonshine/corn whiskey is actually quite yummy and we ended up buying both. The flavored moonshines (cherry and apple) were not that great in my opinion, especially compared to other flavored moonshines I have had. They said they were going to make gin, vodka and whiskey in the future and I wish them the best of luck. If you are interested in this sort of booze, I would suggest stopping by and checking it out. read more

The tour as well as the tasting were both inadequate. The woman who showed us around was fairly uneducated on the distillery's practices- the man who generally gives tours was apparently busy- so although the tour was supposed to last 20 minutes it couldn't have been much more than 5. There was an uncomfortable feeling about the whole experience, with the best parts being the two dogs that welcomed us as well as the gift shop which did have some nice items. My best advice is to not go in expecting much of an experience, and to avoid going if you are anything but American. read more

The description for the samples were spot on. The Kopper Kettle Apple Whiskey was fantastic! If you enjoy Fireball, you'll really like the Climax Moonshine #32. We had a free tour with some very nice tour guides. The distillery is small, but very well kept. We loved seeing the bottling process, much of which was conducted with very old -still working- machinery. Our guides did their best to answer any questions, and didn't hurry us through. Was very excited about toasting at Belmont after several recommendations. Unfortunately, we arrived at 403p when they close at 4pm and the staff was unwilling to even give us a splash of anything. Only pushing us to buy a bottle, without even tasting. When we told them that this was our only opportunity as we were flying out tomorrow, she said come back tomorrow at 11a. Clearly wasn't listening, with little customer service skills, with a public facing job. I work in a tasting room and this isn't how you manage things of this nature. read more
